[Bug 1734856] Re: Can't boot VM with more than 16 disks (slof buffer issue)

2018-01-01 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
Thanks for sorting out the Artful test already bssrikanth.

To be clear (the comments by kalshett are unclear to me at least. You need to
test Xenial/Zesty/Artful HOSTS. The fix is in the slof package that is
installed in the KVM host.
It actually doesn't even matter which level of guest you start, but you have to
do it on the host release you verify.

>From my POV verification-needed-xenial was only removed by "you" (=bugproxy)
>but not yet set to be done (or anything else) and the commends are unclear to
>me :-/.
I'll fix that up to have it as -needed again.

TL;DR: Yes it is needed for Xenial and Zesty as well.

Once Xenial and Zesty are done as well, then also set the global
verification-done to be complete.

[Bug 1725863] Re: Logitech G930 drops connection and reconnects in 17.10 (But not in 17.04)

2018-01-01 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Sorry for the delay. I'm involved in hundreds of different bugs and lose
track...

I suggest the next step is to reproduce the problem with 18.04 and see
if similar errors appear in your journal (run 'journalctl'):

Oct 21 17:23:33 hostname pulseaudio[1288]: [alsa-sink-USB Audio] alsa-sink.c:
ALSA woke us up to write new data to the device, but there was actually nothing
to write.
Oct 21 17:23:33 hostname pulseaudio[1288]: [alsa-sink-USB Audio] alsa-sink.c:
Most likely this is a bug in the ALSA driver 'snd_usb_audio'. Please report
this issue to the ALSA developers.
Oct 21 17:23:33 hostname pulseaudio[1288]: [alsa-sink-USB Audio] alsa-sink.c:
We were woken up with POLLOUT set -- however a subsequent snd_pcm_avail()
returned 0 or another value < min_avail.

Alternatively, don't change Ubuntu version at all, and just try the
latest kernels:

http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/?C=N;O=D

Essentially we want to know:
  (1) Was there an older kernel where it ever did work?
  (2) Is the bug still there in the latest kernels? If not, then exactly what
version fixed it?
  (3) Otherwise, does the bug always occur when those error messages above
appear?

[Bug 1734147] Re: Ubuntu 17.10 corrupting BIOS - many LENOVO laptops models

2018-01-01 Thread Anthony M.
UPDATE (Acer Swift SF314-52):

The problem is semi-resolved. I found a way around by performing a USB
Install using Legacy Mode.

** Description changed:

Description: An update to linux kernel on Ubuntu 17.10 that enabled the
intel-spi-* drivers made Insyde BIOS unusable. Main issues were Settings
being not stored, USB Boot impossible and EFI entries read-only.

Fix: The issue was fixed in Kernel Version 4.13.0-21. But previous
affected machines still suffered from a broken BIOS.

Repair: Boot Linux and Install Kernel Version 4.14.9. Reboot into Linux
and BIOS should be restored to a working state.

Test Case: Fix has been verified by our HWE team on affected hardware.

Ah, yes. Sorry but your bug 1726600 is a duplicate of bug 1505409. And I
think this one is different to those two. It just means the wrong .crash
file was sent...

Please try following the steps in #15 again, or repeatedly, and we'll
see if we can find an instance of this one.

The change is substantial, can you ask the patch author and BTRFS
maintainers if it’s a good idea to backport it to stable Linux?

Apparently the original patch didn’t send for linux stable branch.

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1069133 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1069133

Reviewing the files from your upgrade attempt you seem to have enabled a
PPA that provides Xorg packages. This will prevent the upgrade as that
PPA contains different versions of packages essential to Ubuntu. The
page, https://launchpad.net/~xorg-edgers/+archive/ppa, contains details
on to how to revert to the official Xorg packages for the xorg-edgers
PPA. Instructions for reverting to official Xorg packages should be
similar for the PPA that you have enabled. Thanks.

inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1740817] [NEW] testdrive needs to be ported from pygtk to gtk3

2018-01-01 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Public bug reported:

pygtk will be removed from Debian and Ubuntu soon, maybe later this
year.

The replacement is gtk3 with gobject-introspection.

Interestingly, I worked on this port several years ago.
https://code.launchpad.net/~jbicha/testdrive/port-to-gtk3/+merge/72369

Someone that cares about testdrive will need to update that port to
apply to the latest version of testdrive.

Otherwise, we will eventually need to remove testdrive from Ubuntu.

Ubuntu releases should log new bugs in future, please.

That all said, looking at the attached Stacktrace.txt and

Can anyone affected tell if Ubuntu 18.04 has fixed this? (I'm thinking
about the fix for bug 1720684)

It should be fixed by latest mainline kernel.
Currently there is a patch missing in Artful kernel.

IIRC ELAN1200 should use hid-multitouch.

That's because rootfs has systemd-backlight@.service to restore/save the

[Bug 1740810] [NEW] NFSv2 has been disabled, turning it back on is not obvious

2018-01-01 Thread Taniwha
Public bug reported:

In 17.10 NFSv2 has been disabled by default, existing stuff (in my case
embedded hardware development systems based on uboot) continue to use
the old NFS protocols ...

This thread describes the issue, and the solution:

This bug is a request for documentation so the next person doesn't waste a day
hunting this problem down, please:

protocols

- make a note in the "man nfs" pages noting that NFSv2 is disabled by
default and that instructions on how to enable it can be found in

[Bug 1740809] [NEW] Folder says Empty when it is not empty

2018-01-01 Thread DBooth
Public bug reported:

The folder/directory list on the left side of gthumb says "(Empty)"
below a folder when that folder has no subdirectories, even though the
folder is NOT empty: it contains photos! This is misleading and apt to
cause the user -- such as me! -- to accidentally delete photos by
deleting a non-empty directory thinking that it is empty.

If the user clicks on the folder/directory name, then normally
thumbnails are displayed on the right, so that can help alert the user
to the presence of photos in that folder in spite of the fact that it
says "(Empty)". However, this is not a reliable enough way to prevent
accidental photo deletion, because:

1. gthumb might currently be displaying the contents of a completely
different folder. For example, on the attached screenshot on the right
the thumbnails of folder 12-11-22 are displayed, but a DIFFERENT folder
(2012-11-26) has been right-clicked to pop up its menu in order to
delete it, because gthumb (misleadingly) says "(Empty)" under that
folder.

2. When a folder contains a LOT of photos, gthumb sometimes takes a long
time before displaying any thumbnails, which can give the appearance of
the folder being empty!

3. As I previously mentioned, the folder list on the left explicitly
says "(Empty)".

Please do not display the word "(Empty)" below a folder name unless that
folder really is EMPTY, i.e., it contains no folders or other files. It
is dangerously misleading and is not needed.

This was tested on gthumb 3.4.3 on Ubuntu 16.04.

** Affects: gthumb (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1716654] Re: [System Product Name, Realtek ALC1220, Pink Mic, Rear] Underruns, dropouts or crackling sound

2018-01-01 Thread Stephen
I wanted to add to the above, while the crackling was heavily present
for youtube, an mp3 played in clementine, and an mp4 video file in
smplayer, I ran ubuntu-bug -s audio, and the test tones were all clear,
except for a brief moment of static at the very last second. I ran the
test twice to confirm, and I reconfirmed that the crackling status was
still present in all other sources. As above, typing pulseaudio -k and
waiting a few seconds before restarting audio sources fixes it for an
indeterminate amount of time.

[Bug 1716654] Re: [System Product Name, Realtek ALC1220, Pink Mic, Rear] Underruns, dropouts or crackling sound

2018-01-01 Thread Stephen
I am also affected by this bug.

my system uses these codecs
/proc/asound/card0/codec#0:Codec: ATI R6xx HDMI
/proc/asound/card1/codec#0:Codec: Realtek ALC1220

on an Asus Prime x370a Pro motherboard with a ryzen 1600X.

This problem was first observed in Ubuntu 16.04.3, with kernel 4.4 and
the 1201 bios for this board.

The board is now running 3401, and Ubuntu 17.10, in order to have access
to a more recent kernel.

I installed the hwe update to 16.04 first, bringing my kernel version to
4.10 or 4.11, but it made the login screen and all terminals distorted
and unreadable, so I was unable to test in that state - a state repeated
after the clean install of 17.10, but which I found was due to ubuntu
trying to set an ultra wide resolution to my 4k monitor, and being
unable to display 4k i I corrected by switching from HDMI to Display
Link Cable.

In the prior configuration I confirmed that the distortion occurred over the
HDMI to my monitor speakers, as well as over the analog jack output. In my
case, the distortion sounds identical to the recording made by Gargoyle above,
and seemed to come and go in 16.04.3. using pulseaudio -k in a terminal gets
rid of the problem for 10 minutes to several hours (or, perhaps it comes and
goes away on its own and i miss it).

In addition, if it is of consequence, I had been running Ubuntu 16.04
since launch on a Gigabyte X58A-UD3R board's sound with no problems.
After swapping the board to the Asus prime X370a pro 3 weeks ago, this
problem appeared.

[Bug 1740792] [NEW] Automatic login still requires user password after suspend/hibernate

2018-01-01 Thread Niklas Rosenqvist
Public bug reported:

Description:Ubuntu 17.10
Release:17.10
gnome-control-center 3.26.2

When I set Ubuntu to automatically login a user the user still has to
enter their password when resuming from a suspended session. The only
option I can find to fix this is to disable the lock-screen completely,
which I don't want to since I still want it to be an option to manually
lock it. Setting Privacy > Screen Lock to off doesn't affect this
behavior at all.

The solution seems to be to use dconf-editor and change
org.gnome.desktop.screensaver.ubuntu-lock-on-suspend to false. I got the
solution after asking on askubuntu.com:
https://askubuntu.com/questions/990056/turn-off-requesting-user-
password-after-suspend-17-10

[Bug 1728244] Re: Touchpad stops working after reboot on Apollo Lake

2018-01-01 Thread Ryan Burke
I just thought I would add that I too am affect by this on my system:

SYNA3602 device on a YEPO 737A Laptop - Linux Mint 18.3 Cinnamon respun,
as OP describes. The touchpad doesn't work live, and has never worked
after install.

I'm currently on 4.15 RC6 which was respun into the install ISO via the
-u argument.

Touchpad works flawlessly in windows 10 of course.

[Bug 1740771] [NEW] the screen keeps locking while I wath video with mpv

2018-01-01 Thread Imre Péntek
Public bug reported:

Reproducibility:

100% reproducible

steps to reproduce:

1. $ mpv -fv anyvideo_long_enough.anyformat
2. now please refrain from any mouse/keyboard activity, wait for the
screensaver to activate
3. screensaver activates

problem:

the screensaver activates

desired behaviour:

the screensaver shouldn't activate

long description:

Hello,

the screen keeps locking while I watch video with mpv. Basically the
screensaver gets activated.

but according to man mpv:

   --heartbeat-cmd=

  WARNING:
This option is redundant with Lua scripting. Further, it
shouldn't be needed for disabling screensaver anyway, since mpv will call
xdg-screensaver
when using X11 backend. As a consequence this option has been
deprecated with no direct replacement.

...

That all said as the screen getting locked contradicts the manpage, I
consider this a bug. Thank you for the fix in advance.

[Bug 1492778] Re: kde crashes when powering on/off monitor

2018-01-01 Thread David Anderson
I had this problem using Kubuntu 16.04 and KDE 5.5.5. A workaround that
worked for me was to change the compositor via System Settings, Display
and Monitor, Compositor, Rendering backend, set to XRender. I can now
turn the TV off and on again without it freezing KDE.

This workaround came from the following page:

[Bug 1218510] Re: Fails to open due to: PNG read error in /usr/share/mplayer/skins/default/main

2018-01-01 Thread Doug McMahon
Copied over the xenial package to artful & bionic in the ppa mentioned post #28
One doesn't even need to add ppa, just go to the package details, expand the
dropdown & download the all .deb, install with apt
