[Bug 1741447] Re: Unity / Compiz in a crash loop after login, after updates 4/1

2018-01-05 Thread Janghou
I doubt this is a duplicate of bug #1735594

- I'm not logged out every time
- problems started after updates of 4/1/2018, not in December 2017

** Summary changed:

- Can't login after latest updates (4/1), Unity / Compiz crashes
+ Unity / Compiz in a crash loop after login, after updates 4/1

** This bug is no longer a duplicate of bug 1735594

[Bug 1734147] Re: corrupted BIOS due to Intel SPI bug in kernel

2018-01-05 Thread Ricardo Arredondo
I seem to have had the issue for a long long time. Without knowing i had
the issue i kept using Ubuntu 17.10 and never really had any use for
another OS. What i did in error then was i was trying to delete a
partition from a USB drive to try to convert my y50-70 to a Hackintosh.
Unfortunatly i made a huge mistake. Instead of deleting my EFI partition
from usb drive i deleted it from my SSD. So i was left with a broken
Laptop. I then decided ok i am handy sometimes lets see if i can fix it.
So i took out my hard drive careful not to write anything to it and i
was shocked when testdisk did not help be bring back the erased
partition. Well then i tried to build a PXE boot server (long rabbit
hole later) i was able to spin up a FOG server that could install ubuntu
16.04 on to another laptop. HOPE! WRONG it kernel panics and does not
install. So here i am hoping someone out there can help with just giving
me a backup of their hard drive that i can bring back from another box
and the get rid of my issue. please contact me if you can do this for
me.

[Bug 1453980] Re: grub-install installs wrong bootloader when --removable and --uefi-secure-boot are used.

2018-01-05 Thread Ubfan
On Ubuntu 16.04, uefi secure boot enabled, grub-efi package
2.02~beta2-36ubuntu3.15, the original problem has been fixed, like the
suggestion in the original posting (just use shim) , but now the --no-
uefi-secure-boot switch on grub-install does not cause grubx64.efi to be
used as .../EFI/Boot/bootx64.efi, instead the legacy core.img is used.
There is apparently no way to install grub to a removable disk for use
on a non-secure boot UEFI system from a 16.04 secure boot system.

[Bug 1741596] [NEW] Chrome fullscreen crashes Unity

2018-01-05 Thread Taylor Raack
Public bug reported:

The bug fix for unredirecting Chrome fullscreen mode in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/1442728 is now out
of date, as the Google Chrome's window class has changed at some point
from "google-chrome" to "Google-chrome".

As a result, the fix in that bug no longer works in Xenial. I'm seeing
regular Unity hangs when un-fullscreening, as reported in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/1442728/comments/13.

I'm constantly having to log into a tty and reset the window system to
recover from this.

It should be simple enough to change "google-chrome" to "Google-chrome"
in compiz composite settings to fix this.

[Bug 1741398] Re: Commented line in sudoers file breaks sudo

2018-01-05 Thread Plutocrat
Wow, OK apologies for wasting everyone's time in that case but I have to
say that its pretty confusing. Even within the sudoers file there are
comments prefixed by a hash. But if your comment happens to start with
#include it magically becomes active.

I now understand this is the intended behaviour, but in that case I'd
humbly suggest that there should be another, better way of doing
includes.

Also, perhaps visudo should throw an error when it finds an #include
that doesn't exist, rather than just exiting and then sudo refusing to
do anything.

[Bug 1741589] [NEW] Anthy Dictionary editor "kasumi" will crash during application launch.

2018-01-05 Thread ichro furuya
Public bug reported:

A problem has already been reported in "debian-bugs-dist".
Bug#885918: Fail to start with UTF-8 anthy dict
(Osamu Aoki Sun, 2017-12-31 03:49:17 -0800)
I sent an error report to help fix this problem.

Ubuntu 18.04 LTS "Bionic Beaver" -Alpha amd64(20180101)
It is Japanese environment. The input method uses add-on iBus-Anthy.
I deleted the standard iBus-Mozc.
Ubuntu is using it in "Ubunt on Xorg" session.

(step 1)
Ubuntu is using it in "Ubunt on Xorg" session.
I installed Anthy Dictionary editor 'kasumi' .
$ sudo apt update
$ sudo apt install kasumi
kasumi (2.5-5build1)

Crashing on the way when launching the application.
$ kasumi
Gtk-Message: Failed to load module "canberra-gtk-module"
kasumi: KasumiDic.cxx:78: void KasumiDic::load(KasumiConfiguration*): アサーション
`anthy_version != 0' に失敗しました。
中止 (コアダンプ)

(step 2)
Install "Synaptic" below.
libcanberra-gtk-module
libcanberra-gtk 0

The first message is no longer displayed. However, I can not launch the
application.
$ kasumi
kasumi: KasumiDic.cxx:78: void KasumiDic::load(KasumiConfiguration*): アサーション

中止 (コアダンプ)

(step 3)
I reinstalled the following on "Synaptic".
anthy

[Bug 1728244] Re: Touchpad stops working after reboot on Apollo Lake

2018-01-05 Thread Ryan Burke
Alright so 4.14.4 and .11 actually resulted in worse behaviour from the
touch pad, and even some system wide instability. I'm back to 4.15-rc6
(Mint Cinnamon) and, although it will not initiate at boot, suspending
gets me full functionality including multi touch gestures - and it
doesn't randomly turn off while under use.

This is acceptable for daily driver use right now on this YEPO 737A.
I'll be testing new kernels as they are released hoping for that coveted
boot initialization.

[Bug 1741588] [NEW] Categories in Ubuntu Software don't work

2018-01-05 Thread dmiller309
Public bug reported:

I'm a developer on the Polarr team for Linux, and users should be able
to find the Polarr app under the Photography category of the Ubuntu

I attached a screenshot of the Photography category in the Ubuntu 16.04

As you can see, there are only ellipses where there should be icons and
descriptive text for each of the photography applications. Clicking on
the items doesn't do anything.

[Bug 1739800] Re: Please remove gnome-python from Ubuntu

2018-01-05 Thread Jeremy Bicha
** No longer affects: rapid-photo-downloader (Ubuntu)

** Description changed:

gnome-python and pyorbit have been removed from Debian Testing because
it is an old GNOME2 library that hasn't been maintained in years. It
will take some time for those packages to be removed from Debian
Unstable, but I don't think we should ship gnome-python in Ubuntu 18.04
  LTS.

I am filing this bug now in particular to provide early notice for the
Ubuntu-specific packages firmware-tools and gnome-activity-journal. Both of
those projects were abandoned upstream years ago.
  https://github.com/dell/firmware-tools
  https://code.launchpad.net/~gnome-zeitgeist/gnome-activity-journal/trunk

This bug depends on LP: #1739797 (removal of gnome-python-desktop).
(Therefore, I am not adding tasks here for packages on that list.)

[Bug 1741584] [NEW] comments in variables

2018-01-05 Thread Seth Arnold
Public bug reported:

Nibaldo González discovered that AppArmor parses variable assignments
differently than many other lines and includes #comments if they are on
the same line in a surprising fashion:

https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/apparmor/2018-January/011418.html

> 24| @{libreoffice_ext} = [tT][xX][tT] #.txt

I've filed a bug for this profile but perhaps the solution should be to
modify the AppArmor parser instead:

[Bug 1741581] [NEW] buggy apparmor profile

2018-01-05 Thread Seth Arnold
Public bug reported:

Nibaldo González has reported that the LibreOffice AppArmor profile has
mistakes in it:

https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/apparmor/2018-January/011418.html

> In this case, AppArmor grants write and read permissions to files with
> extension: '.#.txt', '.#All', '.the', '.format', '.#.xml', '.and',
> etc. Clearly, the profile must be fixed.

I've confirmed this via apparmor_parser -Qd output on a slightly modified
version of the source file:

$ apparmor_parser -Qd < foo  | grep '#'
Warning from stdin (line 1): apparmor_parser: cannot use or update cache,
disable, or force-complain via stdin
Mode: rwak: Name:
({/home//*,/root,/mnt,/media}/**.{[tT][xX][tT],#.txt,{,f,F}[oO][dDtT][tTsSpPbBgGfF],#All,the,open,document,format,[xX][mMsS][lL],#.xml,and,xsl,[pP][dD][fF],#.pdf,[uU][oO][fFtTsSpP],#Unified,office,format,{,x,X}[hH][tT][mM]{,l,L},#(x)htm(l),[jJ][pP][gG],[jJ][pP][eE][gG],[pP][nN][gG],[sS][vV][gG],[sS][vV][gG][zZ]99251,[tT][iI][fF],[tT][iI][fF][fF],[dD][oO][cCtT]{,x,X},[rR][tT][fF],[xX][lL][sSwWtT]{,x,X},[dD][iIbB][fF],#.dif,dbf,[cCtT][sS][vV],#.tsv,.csv,[sS][lL][kK],[pP][pP][tTsS]{,x,X},[pP][oO][tT]{,m,M},[sS][wW][fF],#Flash,[pP][sS][dD],#Photoshop,[mM][mM][lL]})

The comments on the variable assignment lines are carried through to the
policy.

Thanks

[Bug 1655348] Re: gpu-manager Error: can't open /lib/modules/

2018-01-05 Thread Ayoub Boudhar
I have a similar bug with the same premise, freezes using Google Chrome.
They tend to be very random, I only have them during playback.

Google Chrome: 63.0.3239.132 (64bits) (Although numerous versions before had
the same problem)
Ubuntu 17.10 (4.13.0-21-generic)
Running on a Pentium N3530, no discrete GPU.

The logs are almost identical.

However as soon as I revert back to 4.13.0-21 Kernel, the Problem is
back.

Any ideas?

Regards
  Chris

[Bug 1741579] [NEW] Wrong/confuse text on shutdown at unattended-upgrades

2018-01-05 Thread ITEAS
Public bug reported:

ProblemType: Bug
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 16.04
Package: unattended-upgrades-0.90ubuntu0.9
Uname: 4.4.0-104-generic #127-Ubuntu SMP
Architecture: amd64

I've german systems, so when updates will be installed at shutdown this
text will be displayed at the screen.

German:
"unattended upgrade läuft während des herunterfahrens weiter, es wird fünf
Sekunden lange gewartet"

English:
"unattended upgrade runs during the shutdown, it waits for five seconds"

This sentence make absolutly no sence for me. Maybe it is an
translationproblem? Don't know text on the english ubuntuversion.
The problem is that some customer turned of some computers, because the updates
need more time then 5 seconds ;)

A better message will that was Windows10 displays at shutdown ...don't
turn off the computer, updates will be installed...

Thanks and best Reagards

[Bug 1741509] Re: Thunderbolt updates on Dell systems fail to apply if nothing connected

2018-01-05 Thread Mario Limonciello
I've got a successful confirmation from someone on the Github issue. As such
I've uploaded an SRU to xenial-proposed. It will be waiting for an archive
admin to ack it.
Once it's landed in the xenial proposed archive it will need someone else to
verify it too.

[Bug 1575655] Re: the network indicator shows the wrong status

2018-01-05 Thread Martin Spacek
I have this problem in Xubuntu 16.04 with HWE kernel, on my Thinkpad X1
carbon 4th gen (2016).

uname -a:

Linux Godel 4.10.0-42-generic #46~16.04.1-Ubuntu SMP Mon Dec 4 15:57:59
UTC 2017 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

lspci | grep -i network:

04:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation Wireless 8260 (rev 3a)

I've been using:

killall nm-applet; nm-applet &

very regularly in the past couple of weeks when I've been using a
different wifi router. I don't think this was happening to me in the
past. Has anyone seen a change in behaviour, whether due to updates or
change in usual physical location?

Another Thinkpad on the same network with the same install and kernel,
an old X120e running an AMD cpu and a Realtek RTL8188CE wireless card,
does *not* seem to exhibit this problem. i.e., nm-applet shows the
correct icon and shows all available wifi APs after multiple suspend
resume cycles.

To be clear provided by apache2-bin.

Note that providing links to URLs whose content changes based upon
when they are viewed is not a particularly useful practice, IMO. In
the future, show the contents, or a grep or something that indicates
what the problem is, as otherwise I'd assume it's PEBKAC.
