Input/output error indicates some issue with the disk. Could you please
run fsck?

[Bug 1741839] Re: gdm3 lock screen (not log in) freezes sometime

2018-01-16 Thread Yassine
Now it is happening also before sliding the date/time screen up.
Unfortunately, It only happened when I was not watching the log. I am
trying to keep an android tablet connected via SSH to the affected
machine watching the outputs of that command you gave me most of the
time, so I hope I will get what you need as soon as possible.

** Description changed:

- Sometimes when I slide the lock screen with time and date up to input my
- password to unlock, everything freezes and I am unable to do anything
- but to hard reboot. I am talking about the lock screen (logged in
- already just locked).

[Bug 1743706] [NEW] Ubuntu won't be installed after many attempts

2018-01-16 Thread Shakib Molavi
Public bug reported:

Hi
As I'm new to Linux, I have tried to install Ubuntu many times, but every time
I have faced with a new error message or a misbehaviour.
Last time that I tried, everything went well, OS was installed, but after
reboot when the bootable-usb was mounted, it took me to the installation page
(Try Ubuntu, Install Ubuntu, OEM installation & disk check-up) AND when usb was
unmounted, it took me to a black screen, seems a command page with no title and
no ability to type down anything, though there was a cursor blinking.
This attempt I have made new partiotions, a root "/" , swap area and home
"/home" and have chosen to install bootloader on its default value (my disk
name indeed). And during installation I have faced with "GRUB installation
failed" message that took me to this page to write it in forum.

I'd appreciate any help as I have few information around Linux. I'd ask
you to provide me information about which partitions I need to make
during installation and how much of space each (previously it was 8GB
swap, 80GB root and the rest as home).

To be noted, I have had Win. 10 installed on drive C, and had two other
drives as data which I want to be conserved, so I have tried all these
by formatting drive C in partition stage of Ubuntu installation. That's
because on windows I had disk problems which made me to install new OS.

Thanks for your help

[Bug 1743362] Re: linux: 4.4.0-111.134 -proposed tracker

2018-01-16 Thread Vincent Bernat
As mentioned in #1742995, one patch is incomplete and doesn't expose the
appropriate CPUID for KVM hosts when running on Intel hardware.
8339cae23d79be97a38df3852ef5dab870806a58 should add speculative control
CPUID support for guests. The patch looks truncated as it defines
KVM_CPUID_BIT_SPEC_CTRL but doesn't use it. I am using this patch
instead: https://github.com/exoscale/pkg-
kernel-4.4/blob/xenial/debian/patches/ibrs%2Bkvm/0002-kvm-x86-add-
speculative-control-cpuid-support-for-guests.patch. The additional bits
compared to the patch from SuSE (https://github.com/openSUSE/kernel-
source/blob/SLE12-SP3/patches.suse/27-kvm-x86-add-speculative-control-
cpuid-support-for-guests.patch) are needed because this is the first
time a CPUID 7.0 feature is exposed on EDX.

[Bug 1742505] Re: gre_sys set to default 1472 when using path_mtu > 1500 with ovs 2.8.x

2018-01-16 Thread James Page
Simple reproducer:

sudo add-apt-repository cloud-archive:pike
sudo apt update
sudo apt install openvswitch-switch
sudo ovs-vsctl add-br br-tun
sudo ovs-vsctl add-port br-tun gre0 -- set interface gre0 type=gre
options:remote_ip=10.100.1.1

this will cause ovs to create the gre_sys device in the kernel; the
remote_ip can be anything but is obviously not functional.

[Bug 1704893] Re: Writer closes when finished loading without error

2018-01-16 Thread dino99
The JournalErrors.txt above have lot of "xfce4-notifyd[6564]: Theme
parsing error: gtk-widgets.css"

is it still happening ?

When you said 'fresh install' does that mean you are not reusing a
shared old /home which can contain old borked settings ?

Have you added external sources / custom settings ?

Note that no one else have met that issue on launchpad; so something is
unusual on your installion.

[Bug 1743422] Re: The launcher reveal doesn't always work when moving the pointer to the defined hot spot

2018-01-16 Thread Khurshid Alam
For me it works well. Also default values are selected carefully so that
user need to apply little bit of pressure with pointer to reveal the
launcher. Otherwise it may reveal accidentally, for example when you try
to copy text from left most side of full-screen application.

[Bug 1735594] Re: [regression] compiz crashes after Mesa upgrade

2018-01-16 Thread Emmanuel Grumbach
Somehow I can't repro the bug although I removed all the ppa / proposed
repositories. Maybe I need to add them again and purge them to make sure
I removed the packages and not only the pointer to the repository?

So - I was under the impression that the fix did make it to xenial-
updates (although I haven't touched the the tags / bug status :))

The keyboard key repeat is working correctly but I still lost write
permissions to my network samba share.

** Tags added: apport-collected xenial

** Description changed:

After update, I noticed that I no longer had write permissions to a
samba share (other devices still had write permissions). Also my
keyboard would not repeat a key press more than 5 times (if at all).

After reverting to the older kernel, those issues were gone.

[Bug 1731595] Re: L3 HA: multiple agents are active at the same time

2018-01-16 Thread James Hebden
Hi Corey,

Unfortunately, in the case of the cloud where we are seeing this
behaviour, the updated package which Xav installed per his previous
comment does not seem to have addressed the issue. This was neutron
10.0.4-0ubuntu1~cloud0 from Cloud Archive xenial-updates/ocata.

I did notice that the packages being released for other Ubuntu releases
appear to be a newer version, 2:11.0.2-0ubuntu1.1 - is this intended?

As an update, the workaround in place for this particular issue has been
to disable L3HA on individual routers as we detect this issue. We have
this particular cloud down to a number of routers where things seem
relatively stable, now that we are closer to the 400 L3HA router mark.

Let me know if you need further information or testing performed.

Thanks Rafael,
when you do so I can run additional regression test against it.
You might then also add the debdiff for rewiew if you want to.

[Bug 1740892] Re: corosync upgrade on 2018-01-02 caused pacemaker to fail

2018-01-16 Thread Nish Aravamudan
Sorry for the long-winded, and delayed update to the bug!

Here's my TL;DR:

1) We want the postinst of corosync to be created with dh_installinit
--restart-on-upgrade, which is the default in compat levels <= 10.

2) We want the init scripts (of whatever type) to restart pacemaker, if
they restart corosync and if pacemaker was running before corosync was
restarted.

[Bug 1743295] Re: Disk Wriging Error during installation

2018-01-16 Thread Seth Arnold
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Reviewing your dmesg attachment to this bug report it
seems that there may be a problem with your hardware. I'd recommend
performing a back up and then investigating the situation. Measures you
might take include checking cable connections and using software tools
to investigate the health of your hardware. In the event that is is not
in fact an error with your hardware please set the bug's status back to
New. Thanks and good luck!
