Spaces in exec parameter is against free desktop specification. Also a
script should not contain spaces in its name. You need to fix your code.
Nothing to be fixed here.

[Bug 1744212] [NEW] Artful update to 4.13.15 stable release

2018-01-18 Thread Khaled El Mously
Public bug reported:

SRU Justification

Impact:
The upstream process for stable tree updates is quite similar
in scope to the Ubuntu SRU process, e.g., each patch has to
demonstrably fix a bug, and each patch is vetted by upstream
by originating either directly from a mainline/stable Linux tree or
a minimally backported form of that patch. The 4.13.15 upstream stable
patch set is now available. It should be included in the Ubuntu
   kernel as well.

   git://git.kernel.org/

TEST CASE: TBD

The following patches from the 4.13.15 stable release shall be
applied:

** Affects: linux (Ubuntu)

[Bug 1742602] Re: Blank screen when starting X after upgrading from 4.10 to 4.13.0-26

2018-01-18 Thread Tim Starling
b9c55b6e2cc4369b0688961fa5de0e057f3ec0c4: fixed

I noticed that in the broken kernel, plymouth does not switch on the
external monitor. Normally plymouth shows a cloned display.

Looking at the remaining commits, there was a merge of tag "drm-intel-
next-2017-07-17" which had a very large number of i915 commits. You may
want to manually choose commits either side of that merge, to hurry
things along, since I don't think git-bisect will descend into the
branch until the merge commit is fully isolated.

[Bug 1729836] Re: update-initramfs generating unbootable initrd files when using stderred LD_PRELOAD hook

2018-01-18 Thread Jeff Turner
I think I figured out the cause. Basically PEBCAK..

There's a program called stderred (https://github.com/sickill/stderred)
which colorizes stderr to differentiate it from stdout, via a LD_PRELOAD
hook. I have had this set for years in my ~/.bashrc:

root@jturner-home:~# echo $LD_PRELOAD
/home/jturner/src/github/stderred/build/libstderred.so

When I examine the initrd file as follows, I see half the binaries in
bin/ contain ANSI escape codes, and the libstderred.so library has been
pulled in:

root@jturner-home:/boot# update-initramfs -u -k 4.13.0-25-generic
update-initramfs: Generating /boot/initrd.img-4.13.0-25-generic
root@jturner-home:/boot# mkdir bad
root@jturner-home:/boot# ( cd bad; zcat ../initrd.img-4.13.0-25-generic | cpio
-idmv; )
root@jturner-home:/boot# ls
bad/home/jturner/src/github/stderred/build/libstderred.so
bad/home/jturner/src/github/stderred/build/libstderred.so
root@jturner-home:/boot# ls -1 bad/bin

...
?[1m?[31m[?[0m?[1m?[31m
busybox
cat
chroot
cpio

The output of update-initramfs goes red halfway.

Perhaps update-initramfs could sanitize its environment, or explicitly
unset LD_PRELOAD. Hard to be idiot-proof when there's such sophisticated
idiots :)

2018-01-18 Thread Anthony A.
I tried with qemu 2.10 and libvirt 3.6.0: not bug, it works.

I tried with raw and qcow2 format, both works.

I used this repository: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-cloud-

But it's a staging version, i didn't find a stable qemu/libvirt
repository for Ubuntu Xenial with those versions

[Bug 1744199] [NEW] ubuntu_32_on_64 test crash Trusty 3.13.0-140 amd64 system

2018-01-18 Thread Po-Hsu Lin
Public bug reported:

THIS IS A POTENTIAL REGRESSION

Steps:
1. Deploy a Trusty amd64 node (node pepe in this case)
2. sudo apt-get install git python-minimal -y
3. git clone --depth=1 git://kernel.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/autotest-client-tests -b
master-next
4. git clone --depth=1 git://kernel.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/autotest
5. rm -fr autotest/client/tests
6. ln -sf ~/autotest-client-tests autotest/client/tests
7. Monitor the syslog with tail -f /var/log/syslog
8. AUTOTEST_PATH=/home/ubuntu/autotest sudo -E autotest/client/autotest-local
--verbose autotest/client/tests/ubuntu_32_on_64/control.ubuntu

Result:
* The system will hang without any output in syslog. I can't see any error
message from ipmi output as well.

This test can pass with 3.13.0-139

Output:

[Bug 1740309] Re: user space process hangs when reading partition table of disk

2018-01-18 Thread Kai-Heng Feng
The a bisection between v4.11 to v4.12-rc1 is needed.

Here's the step
$ sudo apt build-dep linux
$ git clone git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git
$ cd linux
$ git bisect start
$ git bisect good v4.11
$ git bisect bad v4.12-rc1
$ make localmodconfig
$ make -j`nproc` deb-pkg
Install the newly built kernel.
If the issue still happens,
$ git bisect bad
Otherwise,
$ git bisect good
Repeat to "make -j`nproc` deb-pkg" until you find the commit that causes the
regression.

Get system firmware update or touchpad firmware update.

Apparently there are several users reported that firmware update works

[Bug 1740323] Re: Enigmail should be updated to version 1.9.9 following Cure53 audit

2018-01-18 Thread Jeremy Nation
I asked in the original bug report to have Enigmail updated to 1.9.9.
Posteo, one of the sponsors of the audit, wrote at
https://posteo.de/en/blog/security-warning-for-thunderbird-users-and-
enigmail-users-vulnerabilities-threaten-confidentiality-of-communication
:

"For Enigmail users:

* Update Enigmail immediately to the new version 1.9.9. This update removes all
vulnerabilities identified in this audit.
* ..."

An excerpt of the audit report is available at
https://www.enigmail.net/download/other/Enigmail%20Pentest%20Report%20by%20Cure53%20-%20Excerpt.pdf
linked from the Enigmail changelog at
https://www.enigmail.net/index.php/en/download/changelog .

At your link https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates it says:

"2. When

2.1. High-impact bugs

Stable release updates will, in general, only be issued in order to fix
high-impact bugs. Examples of such bugs include:

* Bugs which may, under realistic circumstances, directly cause a
security vulnerability. These are done by the security team and are
documented at SecurityTeam/UpdateProcedures.

* ..."

That's the situation here, there are multiple bugs that cause security
vulnerabilities and I submitted a bug report here asking for Enigmail to
be updated. If that means this is a "stable release update" and not a
"fake-sync", that's fine with me.

I'm not part of the Enigmail development team. It seems from your link
that this should be handled by the security team, but if you or the
security team are not the right group to handle this according to Ubuntu
bug rules, please feel free to reassign this to a different team, or
leave it unassigned and remove the "Incomplete" status.

[Bug 1743710] Re: Ubuntu 16.04: since 2018 all dropdown menus black and unreadable

2018-01-18 Thread Daniel van Vugt
It sounds like running 'sudo' first was your mistake, which may then
break the permissions for you as non-sudo.

To work around that problem, try:

1. Fix what just happened: sudo chown -R michael ~/.cache
2. Try again, avoiding 'sudo': apport-collect 1743710

-proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. To enable the -proposed
repository:

  sudo add-apt-repository cloud-archive:mitaka-proposed
  sudo apt-get update

Your feedback will aid us getting this update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag
from verification-mitaka-needed to verification-mitaka-done. If it does
not fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change
the tag to verification-mitaka-failed. In either case, details of your
testing will help us make a better decision.

[Bug 1542743] Re: Bluetooth: Patch file not found ar3k/AthrBT_0x00000200.dfu

2018-01-18 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Missing firmware has nothing to do with bluez. Plus those "Bluetooth"
log messages are from the kernel, not bluez.

It appears the linux-firmware package contains some related firmware, but just
not the right one...
/lib/firmware/ar3k/AthrBT_0x01020001.dfu
/lib/firmware/ar3k/AthrBT_0x01020200.dfu
/lib/firmware/ar3k/AthrBT_0x01020201.dfu
/lib/firmware/ar3k/AthrBT_0x1102.dfu
/lib/firmware/ar3k/AthrBT_0x11020100.dfu
/lib/firmware/ar3k/AthrBT_0x3101.dfu
/lib/firmware/ar3k/AthrBT_0x31010100.dfu
/lib/firmware/ar3k/AthrBT_0x4102.dfu

So a fix would either come in the 'linux-firmware' package or in the
kernel itself ('linux').

[Bug 1744184] [NEW] squid 3.3.8 serves duplicate certificates

2018-01-18 Thread Haw Loeung
Public bug reported:

Hi,

It seems squid 3.3.8 packaged in Trusty has a bug that serves the
certificate twice. This is shown below:

OpenSSL:

| [hloeung@dharkan tmp]$ echo "" | openssl s_client -connect
assets.ubuntu.com:443 -CApath /etc/ssl -servername assets.ubuntu.com

This is fixed in upstream squid 3.3.9 per changelog[1] below:

Changes to squid-3.3.9 (11 Sep 2013):
- Bug 3849: Duplicate certificate sent when using https_port

Any chance we could get this fix backported?

Thanks,

Haw

2018-01-18 Thread Davis King
I have the same issue, an automatic upgrade to 4.13.0-30-generic and now
I can't boot. Just kernel panics right away. If I boot with 4.10.0 it
works fine. I'm also attaching a screenshot of my kernel panic message.

[Bug 1718824] Re: The analogue audio does not work on the Dell USB Dock

2018-01-18 Thread Hui Wang
Just checked the pulseaudio_11.1-1ubuntu4_amd64.deb, the dell-dock-tb16
-usb-audio.conf is in it, and will be put to the folder
/usr/share/pulseaudio/alsa-mixer/profile-sets when installing this
package. That is expected, so the bug 1718824 should be fixed in this
version.

I didn't test it on real hardware since I don't have the hardware, the
hardware is in Taipei office.

[Bug 1740323] Re: Enigmail should be updated to version 1.9.9 following Cure53 audit

2018-01-18 Thread Seth Arnold
Hi Jeremy, unfortunately we cannot just fake-sync enigmail from Debian
to address this issue; the candidates for fake-syncing are the entries
with 'sync' in the 'Status' column on http://people.canonical.com
/~ubuntu-security/d2u/

The quickest and easiest way to get enigmail updated is to prepare a
debdiff with cherry-picked patches that address security issues applied
in the Debian packaging, and documented in the debian/changelog.

An update to a wholly new version is possible but would be best served
by the Stable Release Update process
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates

Thanks

[Bug 1744053] Re: package man-db 2.7.6.1-2 failed to install/upgrade: triggers looping, abandoned

2018-01-18 Thread Seth Arnold
Hi Rick, this auto-submitted bug is for another separate issue on your
computer -- triggers looping during package installation.

It'd be best to file a new bug about your trouble logging in. Use

dpkg -l 'nvidia*' | grep '^ii'

to find out which nvidia packages are installed, and use

ubuntu-bug nvidia-

on whichever version is the newest.

At least I think that's most likely package responsible for your issues.

Thanks

Working so far with 4.13.0-30-lowlatency.

Beginning to suspect either it only happens after multiple
suspend/resume cycles or the hardware got itself confused.

[Bug 1727540] Re: add support for thunderx2 cores

2018-01-18 Thread dann frazier
** Description changed:

  [Impact]
gcc-5 doesn't know about thunderx2 cores, so optimization flags for this
target will fail. While it is possible to generate the same code by referencing
the previous name of the core (vulcan), that is non-obvious to the end user.

  [Test Case]
  gcc-5 hello.c -o hello -mcpu=thunderx2t99
hello.c:1:0: error: unknown value ‘thunderx2t99’ for -mcpu
   #include
   ^

+ Also test that -mcpu=vulcan still works, to check for regressions.
+
  [Regression Risk]
The patchset includes a rename of the "vulcan" core to "thunderx2t99". It
retains backwards compatibility with the "vulcan" name to avoid regressing
users that may already be using that name.

[Bug 1744177] [NEW] Left/right arrow keys don't work in native editor

2018-01-18 Thread nbinont
Public bug reported:

Observed issue in mcu8051ide_1.4.7-2_all.deb on
DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS"

Others have observed issue as well:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BqUX4wgt-iA (comment)

Apparently the application relies on tcl8.5, but the package allows it
to use tcl8.6 and it then breaks with tcl8.6.
http://mcu8051ide.sourceforge.net/forum?forum=0=259

Version 1.4.9 (upstream) does not have this issue (but did force my
system to install the correct 8.5 packages):
https://sourceforge.net/projects/mcu8051ide/files/mcu8051ide/1.4.9/

It would be nice to have a usable package in the repository.

[Bug 1740892] Re: corosync upgrade on 2018-01-02 caused pacemaker to fail

2018-01-18 Thread Nish Aravamudan
I tested the versions mentioned in the last comment (with one syntax
fix) and the upgrade path successfully worked! I need to test more
corner-cases and would appreciate help with that (e.g., corosync only
installed, installing pacemaker separately, etc)

The MPs have been updated and I'm building packages that are source-
identical to the MPs as

corosync - 2.3.3-1ubuntu4.1~ppa6

pacemaker - 1.1.10+git20130802-1ubuntu2.5~ppa3

The reason for the repeated version bumps is these packages now have
inter-related versioning.

I will try and do a similar set of MPs for xenial and bionic first thing
tomorrow, if not later today.

[Bug 1744166] Re: East-Saskatchewan timezone removed in latest tzdata

2018-01-18 Thread Nish Aravamudan
Fixed in bionic: 3.5.2-1ubuntu1

** Summary changed:

- East/Saskatchewan timezone removed in latest tzdata
+ East-Saskatchewan timezone removed in latest tzdata

** Description changed:

- This leads to autopkgtest failures.
+ [Impact]
+
+ * DEP8 tests for php-sabre-vobject-3 currently fail in 16.04 because the
+ 2017c version of tzdata dropped the East-Saskatchewan timezone, which is
+ hardcoded in the package.
+
+ * This in turn blocks SRUs of new PHP7.0 microreleases.
+
+ [Test Case]
+
+ * Run the autopkgtests for this source package before and after the
+ change. They should pass after.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ * None, this timezone is no longer valid in 16.04.

[Bug 1744173] [NEW] artful: rfi-flush: Switch to new linear fallback flush

2018-01-18 Thread bugproxy
Public bug reported:

Change flush from congruence-first with dependencies to linear with
no dependencies, which increases flush performance by 8x on P8, and
3x on P9 (as measured with null syscall loop, which will have the
flush area in the L2).

The flush also becomes simpler and more adaptable to different cache
geometries.

[Bug 1742602] Re: Blank screen when starting X after upgrading from 4.10 to 4.13.0-26

I built the next test kernel, up to the following commit:

The test kernel can be downloaded from:
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~jsalisbury/lp1742602

Can you test that kernel and report back if it has the bug or not? I
will build the next test kernel based on your test results.
