[Bug 1743710] Re: Since 2018 text in combo boxes is dark and unreadable

2018-01-28 Thread Daniel van Vugt
WORKAROUND (for 16.04):

Reinstall the original theme, from before the regression occurred:

1. wget
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+archive/primary/+files/light-themes_14.04+16.04.20160415-0ubuntu1_all.deb
2. sudo dpkg -i light-themes_14.04+16.04.20160415-0ubuntu1_all.deb

[Bug 1739955] Re: Qt5UiTools.pc Requires: non-existent Qt5UiPlugin

2018-01-28 Thread Simon Quigley
** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+
+ Without this fix, users are unable to use tools which depend on
+ Qt5UiPlugin.pc to exist. This is a regression in functionality in
+ comparison to previous releases and future releases.
+
+ [Test case]
+
+ See the original description for what shouldn't happen. `pkg-config
+ --print-errors Qt5UiTools` should successfully print after this patch is
+ applied.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ Little to none, as this change has been applied on every other release.
+
+ Where something *could* go wrong is if a tool was specifically designed
+ to ensure that Qt5UiPlugin.pc is not found, or conflicts with that in
+ some way, which again, is unlikely given that this bug does not exist on
+ all other releases.
+
+ [Original Description]
+
  On xenial:

  $ pkg-config --print-errors Qt5UiTools
Package Qt5UiPlugin was not found in the pkg-config search path.
Perhaps you should add the directory containing `Qt5UiPlugin.pc' to the
PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable
Package 'Qt5UiPlugin', required by 'Qt5UiTools', not found

No package appears to provide Qt5UiPlugin.pc

[Bug 1731382] Re: [needs-packaging] [Feature] DPTF binary tools

2018-01-28 Thread Anthony Wong
** Description changed:

  Description:
  Dynamic Platform Thermal Framework (DPTF).

  Linux DPTF Extract Utility
This is a companion tool to Linux Thermal Daemon (thermald). This tool tries
to reuse some of the tables used by
"Intel ® Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework (Intel® DPTF)" by converting
to the thermal_conf.xml format used by thermald.
There are two ways this tool can be used:
Execute on the same system as thermald
In this mode root privilege is required. This tool will copy converted files
to /var/run/thermald/ folder. This is the default folder for thermald to pickup
auto generated configuration file using ACPI tables.
Execute on existing output of Linux acpidump utilities
In this mode the existing ACPI dump is parsed and output file is generated
and copied to /var/run/thermald/. For example to generate acpi dump and create
thermal_conf.xml manually:
  acpidump > acpi.out
  acpixtract -a acpi.out
  dptfxtract "*.dat"
Refer to COPYING file for the license information.

[Bug 1718824] Re: The analogue audio does not work on the Dell USB Dock

2018-01-28 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Please note pulseaudio 1:11.1-1ubuntu4 is stuck in bionic-proposed due
to an unrelated bug in gsequencer (bug 1743511). It appears that will be
resolved and unblocked by gsequencer 1.3.6-1 getting out of proposed and
into bionic proper.

[Bug 1537334] Re: Launcher Overlaps the lxpanel after RTL Language Change

2018-01-28 Thread Simon Quigley
** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+
+ Without this fix, users who use a RTL language in Lubuntu are left with
+ panel icons that overlap each other, which could potentially make the
+ panel unusable.
+
+ [Test Case]
+
+ See the original description.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ Very little, but either underlying changes in the GTK libraries or
+ changes in the RTL language packages have the potential to affect this
+ in a negative way (which would also be present in other areas).
+
+ [Original Description]
+
  STEPS TO REPRODUCE
  --
   1. Open Language Support (/usr/bin/gnome-language-selector)
   2. When asked to install additional language support, do it
   3. Install some RTL language (e.g. Arabic)
   4. Move Arabic ( العربية) to the top of the list
   5. Close the dialog
   6. Log out and log back in

  EXPECTED RESULTS

The language becomes the default system language without any other effects.

  ACTUAL RESULTS
  --
The application launch bar partially overlaps the menu icon in lxpanel.

[Bug 1635438] Re: menu-cached process is using 100% CPU

2018-01-28 Thread Simon Quigley
** No longer affects: menu-cache (Ubuntu Zesty)

** No longer affects: menu-cache (Ubuntu Trusty)

** Description changed:

- For 17.10, please treat this as a 0-day SRU bug report.
-
  [Impact]

Without this bugfix, users who resume from suspend will be greeted with
a heavy CPU load when they resume. This is especially bad for older
computers who may not be able to hand a large CPU load, and menu-cache
is included by default in Lubuntu, where this is especially important.

  [Test Case]

  1. Suspend your computer with the menu-cache process running.
  2. Resume from suspend.
  3. Try to press Alt + F2 or use any other program which calls menu-cached.

It should work as normal, but it uses up a lot of CPU power.

  [Regression Potential]

This bugfix cherry picks an upstream commit that hasn't been tagged yet.
As such, there might be additional improvements before it is released.

Also, this modifies how processes are handled; specifically, it
terminates any processes which return a socket error. This could
eventually bitrot and result in processes returning valid values but it
  really shows as an error.

While all of those are theoretical, it is definitely a possibility.
Other than those two considerations, the regression risk is low.

  [Original Description]

  Hey all,

I don't know you guys are looking for the issues opened on Github
  (https://github.com/lxde/menu-cache/issues/) - currently there are 5
reported there, but I'd like to report specifically for the menu-cached
process using 100% of CPU (we also have an issue opened on Github for
this with lots of comments: https://github.com/lxde/menu-
  cache/issues/7).

I'm using a brand new installation of Lubuntu 16.10 in my laptop.

I noticed the machine temperature was too hot (96 degrees!!!) so I took
a look on top and the menu-cached was the guilty. I killed it and
  everything was as usual again.

I just don't know if it was because I returned from the suspended mode
or if it's because I tried to run a custom command with "Open With". I
  did both in sequence/same session.

  $ dpkg -l |grep -iP "menu.*?cache"
  ii libmenu-cache-bin 1.0.1-1build1
  amd64
  ii libmenu-cache3:amd641.0.1-1build1
  amd64

  Thanks

test with same verbose output if it's not working in fwupd properly now.

Changing this works for me:

In /usr/share/themes/Ambiance/gtk-2.0/gtkrc line 346

Change:
style "menu" = "dark" {

To:
style "menu" = "white" {

And run gtk-theme-switch2 to apply the style change.

[Bug 1448836] Re: Bluetooth firmware missing for BCM43142A0-04ca-2009

2018-01-28 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Kai-Heng Feng, as per Broadcom, they provide firmware via Windows update:
https://www.broadcom.com/support/bluetooth/

Hence, why not have a package in Ubuntu that scripts pulling the
relevant file from Windows update, extracts the relevant bits, and moves
it into the proper location?

This is nothing more than automating what folks already do to WORKAROUND
this issue, without forcing everyone to hold their breath waiting for a
license from Broadcom.

[Bug 1710697] Re: [18.04] Upgrade multipath-tools to upstream version 0.7.4

2018-01-28 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package multipath-tools - 0.7.4-2ubuntu1

---
multipath-tools (0.7.4-2ubuntu1) bionic; urgency=medium

  * Merge from Debian. (LP: #1710697, LP: #1711749) Remaining changes:
- d/control:
  - multipath-udeb: add sg3-udeb Depends
- d/rules: Move udev rules to priority 95, because rules that load modules
  should be >90.
- d/multipath-tools.preinst: modprobe dm-multipath; This will make sure
that multipathd will be able to start.
- Split kpartx initramfs bits into kpartx-boot for dmraid (LP 941874)
  - d/initramfs/kpartx.hook
  - d/kpartx-boot.postinst
  - d/kpartx-boot.postrm
  - d/control: Add kpartx-boot package for dmraid
  - d/rules: Install kpartx initramfs hook
  - d/kpartx.install: install all arch /lib* kpartx udev rules
- patches to multipath source
  - d/p/1000--set-umask-in-multipathd.patch: Set umask in multipathd.
  - d/p/kpartx_more_loopback_fixes.patch: fix loopback mounted
files some more: since we stat() the loopback device node, we can't rely
on S_ISREG() tests to handle this case, and should look at the device
itself instead. (LP 1543430)
  - d/p/enable-find-multipaths.patch: re-enable find_multipaths
by default -- see the removed 'add_find-multipaths.patch' (LP 1463046)
   - multipath initramfs fixes for booting from multipathed devices
  - d/initramfs/hooks: also copy wwids file on the installed system to
ensure all paths come up on boot. (LP 1479929)
  - d/initramfs/hooks: install multipathd and required directories.
  - d/initramfs/hooks: copy multipath udev rules to initramfs
  - d/initramfs/hooks: do not copy kpartx rules to initramfs
  - d/initramfs/local-bottom: remember to stop multipathd.
  - d/initramfs/local-premount: wait for udev to settle before the call to
resolve_device() in local_mount_root(), so the by-uuid/ symlinks have a
chance to be updated by the multipath udev rules (LP 1503286).
  - d/initramfs/local-premount: Run multipath with -B so not to assign names
nor change /etc/multipath/bindings during initramfs (LP 1561103)
  - d/rules: install d/initramfs/local-bottom
  - d/rules: install d/initramfs/local-premount
   - Disable -fexceptions on multipath-udeb (LP 1489379): the flag causes
libchecktur.so to link with libgcc_s.so.1 (even with -static-libgcc),
which is not available in the installer environment.
 - d/p/disable-fexceptions-udeb.patch: conditionally disable -fexceptions
   with CFLAGS_DISABLE_FEXCEPTIONS.
 - d/rules: set CFLAGS_DISABLE_FEXCEPTIONS to build multipath-udeb.
   - Remove d/initramfs/local-top (redundant with other initramfs scripts):
 - init-top: take over loading modules (dm-multipath and SCSI device
   handlers); move the missing dm-emc there (now scsi-dh-emc;
   see BTS 567014).
 - d/rules: do not install local-top anymore.
 - remove d/initramfs/local-top
- Fixes typo in package description (availibility -> availability)
  (LP 1231182)
- d/control mark transition of file /etc/init.d/multipath-tools-boot
according to case #9 of https://wiki.debian.org/PackageTransition
- debian/initramfs/local-bottom: wait for the multipathd unix socket
to close, so to avoid multipathd.socket unit failure. (LP 1682178)
- debian/initramfs/hooks: Add dm-queue-length: users may want to change
from the default selector and should be able to do so. (LP 1673350)
  * Dropped changes:
- Remove partition device nodes of individual paths (for LVM on multipath)
on the new multipath-tools with udev property blacklisting (LP 1540401)
  + Replaced by 68-del-part-nodes.rules
+ known as "dm-mpath-lvm.rules", also dropped initramfs for that
  * New changes:
- Install dm-parts.rule
- Fix /usr/lib/udev to be /lib/udev
- Move udev rules at position 11 to position 56
- Fix 11-dm-mpath.rules to check for DM_UDEV_RULES, not DM_UDEV_RULES_VSN
- d/rules: Run dh_clean from clean target
- Install 68-del-part-nodes.rules
- Import upstream commit to fix crash in multipathd
- Adjust initramfs integration for new udev rules
- Apply fix from fedora to trigger change uevent on device creation,
this also ensures new devices are discovered automatically.
- debian/tests/tgtbasedmpaths: Add sleep to allow for device creation
- d/patches: Add DEP-3 headers to our own patches

It was an accident :)

I guess pulseaudio was spawned from gnome-shell, which is what I was
profiling. I don't have any interest in pursuing this bug.

  - d/initramfs/local-premount: wait for udev to settle before the call to
resolve_device() in local_mount_root(), so the by-uuid/ symlinks have a
chance to be updated by the multipath udev rules (LP 1503286).
  - d/initramfs/local-premount: Run multipath with -B so not to assign names
nor change /etc/multipath/bindings during initramfs (LP 1561103)
  - d/rules: install d/initramfs/local-bottom
  - d/rules: install d/initramfs/local-premount
   - Disable -fexceptions on multipath-udeb (LP 1489379): the flag causes
libchecktur.so to link with libgcc_s.so.1 (even with -static-libgcc),
which is not available in the installer environment.
 - d/p/disable-fexceptions-udeb.patch: conditionally disable -fexceptions
   with CFLAGS_DISABLE_FEXCEPTIONS.
 - d/rules: set CFLAGS_DISABLE_FEXCEPTIONS to build multipath-udeb.
   - Remove d/initramfs/local-top (redundant with other initramfs scripts):
 - init-top: take over loading modules (dm-multipath and SCSI device
   handlers); move the missing dm-emc there (now scsi-dh-emc;
   see BTS 567014).
 - d/rules: do not install local-top anymore.
 - remove d/initramfs/local-top
- Fixes typo in package description (availibility -> availability)
  (LP 1231182)
- d/control mark transition of file /etc/init.d/multipath-tools-boot
according to case #9 of https://wiki.debian.org/PackageTransition
- debian/initramfs/local-bottom: wait for the multipathd unix socket
to close, so to avoid multipathd.socket unit failure. (LP 1682178)
- debian/initramfs/hooks: Add dm-queue-length: users may want to change
from the default selector and should be able to do so. (LP 1673350)
  * Dropped changes:
- Remove partition device nodes of individual paths (for LVM on multipath)
on the new multipath-tools with udev property blacklisting (LP 1540401)
  + Replaced by 68-del-part-nodes.rules
+ known as "dm-mpath-lvm.rules", also dropped initramfs for that
  * New changes:

[Bug 1740441] Re: Nautilus infobar, searchbar & notification dialog issue with Ambiance

2018-01-28 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I feel this bug is covering too many different unrelated issues. So it
would be difficult to track and resolve.

Bug 1743803 now covers the nautilus issue. Can you please modify this
bug to exclude that, and/or log new bugs for the other issues?

[Bug 1743710] Re: Ubuntu 16.04: since 2018 all dropdown menus black and unreadable

2018-01-28 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I can reproduce the bug in 16.04 using LibreOffice, same as your
screenshots show. But I can't seem to reproduce the bug in Firefox,
Thunderbird or GIMP that you mention. Can you provide screenshots of
those with the bug?

[Bug 1725525] Re: Cannot complete installation in Ubuntu 17.10

2018-01-28 Thread easydiez
This is hanging for me as well. I had to repetitively kill the
"plymouth --ping" command to get it to successfully complete. Upon
running the "plymouth --ping" independently, I also found that it hung.
This was on 17.10 artful.

Hi all,

If you would like to see fixes for issues like this in PulseAudio then
we suggest you talk to the PulseAudio people directly. You can do that
either by logging your own upstream bug or join the conversation here:

OK means the copy/paste happened normally, with the text appearing normally

[Bug 1705434] Re: akonadi_control crashed with SIGABRT in __GI_raise()

2018-01-28 Thread Pierre Abbat
I get Akonadi crashing several times a day on a new laptop running
Artful. My previous laptop, running Xenial, did not do this. I'm not
sure that it's crashing with the same signal, as I don't know how to
start Akonadi with this process being debugged. I tried attaching the
debugger to the process, but the process simply exited without gdb being
able to get a stack trace. The tail of strace looks as follows:

[Bug 1745816] Re: [Bionic] 1.9.4-2ubuntu1 makes touchpad jumpy

2018-01-28 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Hi Francois,

The patch in 1.9.4-2ubuntu1 is the same as what's coming soon in
libinput release 1.10. So a fix for your specific touchpad should be
done upstream. Simply reverting the patch won't help you after we update
to libinput 1.10, and besides most laptops seem to need that patch.

Please report the issue to the libinput developers here:
  https://bugs.freedesktop.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=wayland=libinput

And when done let us know the ID of your newly created bug.
