[Bug 1746874] Re: gnome-shell and Xwayland sometimes leave $HOME/core files (should be /var/crash files)
** Description changed: gnome-shell and Xwayland sometimes leave $HOME/core files (should be - /var/crash files). + /var/crash files). This issue was first mentioned in bug 1746653. But + then I noticed my machine doing it too... This is despite: $ grep . /proc/sys/kernel/core_* /proc/sys/kernel/core_pattern:|/usr/share/apport/apport %p %s %c %d %P /proc/sys/kernel/core_pipe_limit:0 /proc/sys/kernel/core_uses_pid:0 So really there are two problems: 1. ~/core files are created but no /var/crash/ files 2. Because they all have the same name (core_uses_pid == 0), when gnome-shell crashes as a result of an Xwayland crash, you can only get the core from one of them at most. [Bug 1715519] Re: bnx2x_attn_int_deasserted3:4323 MC assert!
** Description changed: SRU Justification = A ppc64le system runs as a guest under PowerVM. (dump of registers follows) ... Subsequent debugging reveals that the packets causing the issue come through the ibmveth interface - from the AIX LPAR. The veth protocol is 'special' - communication between LPARs on the same chassis can use very large (64k) frames to reduce overhead. Normal networks cannot handle such large packets, so traditionally, the VIOS partition would signal to the AIX partitions that it was 'special', and AIX would send regular, ethernet-sized packets to VIOS, which VIOS would then send out. This signalling between VIOS and AIX is done in a way that is not standards-compliant, and so was never made part of Linux. Instead, the Linux driver has always understood large frames and passed them up the network stack. In some cases (e.g. with TCP), multiple TCP segments are coalesced into one large packet. In Linux, this goes through the generic receive offload code, using a similar mechanism to GSO. These segments can be very large which presents as a very large MSS (maximum segment size) or gso_size. Normally, the large packet is simply passed to whatever network application on Linux is going to consume it, and everything is OK. However, in this case, the packets go through Open vSwitch, and are then passed to the bnx2x driver. The bnx2x driver/hardware supports TSO and GSO, but with a restriction: the maximum segment size is limited to around 9700 bytes. Normally this is more than adequate. However, if a large packet with very large (>9700 byte) TCP segments arrives through ibmveth, and is passed to bnx2x, the hardware will panic. Impact -- bnx2x card panics, requiring power cycle to restore functionality. The workaround is turning off TSO, which prevents the crash as the kernel resegments *all* packets in software, not just ones that are too big. This has a performance cost. - Fix --- - Test packet size in bnx2x feature check path. + Test packet size in bnx2x feature check path and disable GSO if it is + too large. Regression Potential Limited to bnx2x card driver. The most likely failure case is a false-positive on the size check, which would lead to a performance regression only. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1715519 Title: bnx2x_attn_int_deasserted3:4323 MC assert! [Bug 1742482] Re: Bluefish asks to download files from Nautilus FTP window
Hello Innocent, Thank you, I have some more info and they lead to a problem in Nautilus rather than bluefish. Here are the updated steps: 1. Connect to an FTP server via Nautilus 2a. Double-click on a .php file: chrome opens and the file is downloaded 2b. Right click and select 'open with' and then Bluefish: the file is opened in bluefish as expected So, on the double-click from Nautilus the wrong app (chrome!) is opened even if the .php files are associated with bluefish. The bnx2x driver/hardware supports TSO and GSO, but with a restriction: the maximum segment size is limited to - around 9700 bytes. Normally this is more than adequate as jumbo frames - are limited to 9000 bytes. If you can instruct me on how to gather the pertinent information, I can make a report. Honestly though, it seems like the chances of some unique rare issue that few have is going to get much attention. If it comes to it that I need Wayland on this system, I'd sooner just reinstall which typically resets weird elusive configuration issues of which there could be many. It's too bad there isn't a financially backed bounty system somewhere for fixing bugs? While I agree with you that the data /seems/ to show that there is not issue with CPU, that doesn't change the fact that we don't have any data to compare with, as there could still be an impact even if it is minimum. Without the data, we cannot certainly assert that there's no issue caused by CPU usage because we don't have a reference or point of comparison. So while all fingers seem to be pointing to storage, It strongly believe it is worth gathering the data now and fully discard. If this is something that your environment is unable to do, I would appreciate that you clarify that instead of asserting that there's no performance impact in MAAS due to CPU usage, when we don't really know for sure (e.g. we don't know if MAAS behaves differently with less CPU usage in the current conditions, and that's data worth gathering to be able to better support you in the future). -- Andres Rodriguez (RoAkSoAx) Ubuntu Server Developer MSc. [Bug 1745754] Re: upgrading from an End of Life release is not easy peasy
I don't believe it has anything to do with non standard 3rd party apt sources. I had disabled all of them other than the bone stock ubuntu sources. Also I had no issue upgrading at all after i fixed the location of the servers to the archives. This is simply a complaint that there is no upgrade path other than manually changing repositories to the archives on a now unsupported release. It is bad human ergonomics :) I did note that there was a bug in the updater with bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1744722 I did not have any issues with upgrading once the source list servers info was corrected. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1745754 Title: upgrading from an End of Life release is not easy peasy To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-release-upgrader/+bug/1745754/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1747421] Re: Bluetooth does not start
It appears you have recurring "pcieport" errors in your kernel log (see CurrentDmesg.txt and JournalErrors.txt). This looks like a hardware fault (I've had the same issue myself... with a faulty PCIe card slot). But in case it's not a hardware fault, let's start by assigning the issue to the Linux kernel. P.S. You will also need to have package 'linux-firmware' installed. [Bug 1746874] Re: gnome-shell and Xwayland sometimes leave $HOME/core files (should be /var/crash files)
In case it's not clear to all readers yet; Xwayland and gnome-shell are co-dependent processes. If one crashes then the other will also crash. So we need apport to be capable of handling both crashes simultaneously. ** No longer affects: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) ** No longer affects: linux (Ubuntu) ** No longer affects: mutter (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1746874 Title: gnome-shell and Xwayland sometimes leave $HOME/core files (should be /var/crash files) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apport/+bug/1746874/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1733032] Re: touchpad disable while typing, disable tap-to-click don't work in 17.10
"Tap to Click" is meant to be configurable in the GUI here: Settings > Devices > Mouse & Touchpad > Touchpad > Tap to Click If you don't see that option then the issue is either: (a) libinput or the kernel have not detected your touchpad as a clickpad correctly; or (b) You have xserver-xorg-input-synaptics installed so the Touchpad GUI will be missing. Also note this will be ignored by libinput as it is a setting for xserver-xorg-input-synaptics only: Section "InputClass" Identifier "disable touchpad tap to click, enable palm detection" Driver "synaptics" Please clarify for us if you have kept xserver-xorg-input-synaptics installed. Because if you have and continue to log into "Ubuntu on Xorg", then libinput has nothing to do with your issues and this bug needs redirecting elsewhere. ** Changed in: libinput (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1733032 Title: touchpad disable while typing, disable tap-to-click don't work in 17.10 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/libinput/+bug/1733032/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1316970] Re: g_dbus memory leak in lrmd
For V3. It seems that g_variant_unref(value); part is needed. Added it again and no memory leaks. in g_variant_lookup_value, it calls g_variant_get_child_value so as you said. it need to be unref value as well i think. [Bug 1730174] Re: [artful] mouse clicks are completely ignored both in Gnome's gdm and once logged in to the desktop
@enimga0, Wayland may not be the default in 18.04 but if it's going to be in better shape by 18.10 then we really have to stay focussed on fixing it. [Bug 1746310] Re: Drop fonts-symbola from platform?
Gunnar, Kubuntu and Lubuntu Next are free to install fonts-symbola if they want. (But they should really talk to Qt about getting color emoji support working everywhere too!) The benefit of installing Noto Color Emoji by default is so that color emoji will work out of the box with any GTK+ app (with a few exceptions like Chromium, Firefox and LibreOffice).
