[Bug 1758563] Re: Blocked at gdm login screen on 18.04 if user password has a circumflex accent
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1716159 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1716159 Hi, I'm not sure this is an exact duplicte of bug 1716159 (I saw it before reporting here). It's right, today I checked, if I enter û in the gdm login field, it writes u, but : - this was also the case since early alpha testing of Ubuntu 17.10, I already had the same password, only since update of 10th March 2018 it is refused. And when I chose it, on the live USB installation, was the French alternative keyboard selected, so I'm sure it was with the accent (I checked again, typing one with û and one with u gets an error on 2 passwords not matching). - In this case, modifying the password in recovery session should have allowed me to login again (which I could in terminal only the very first time I had this bug, so modification was successful, after ,I have no access to console), but not... Something specifically changed between mid-February and 10th March making login impossible with my "û" containing password and forcing me to reinstall... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1758563 Title: Blocked at gdm login screen on 18.04 if user password has a circumflex accent To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm3/+bug/1758563/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode. To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1758771/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package. I am running Ubuntu 17.10 and package lists as bsdgames-2.17-25, but this fix was done in source listed as bsdgames-2,17-26build1, so that version is also broken. *** hack.o_init.c.old 2003-12-16 20:47:37.0 -0600 --- hack.o_init.c 2018-03-25 20:35:59.362696144 -0600 *** *** 184,191 bwrite(fd, (char *) bases, sizeof bases); bwrite(fd, (char *) objects, sizeof objects); /* !* as long as we use only one version of Hack/Quest we need not save !* oc_name and oc_descr, but we must save oc_uname for all objects */ for (i = 0; i < SIZE(objects); i++) { if (objects[i].oc_uname) { --- 184,190 bwrite(fd, (char *) bases, sizeof bases); bwrite(fd, (char *) objects, sizeof objects); /* !* Save oc_name, oc_descr, as well as oc_uname for all objects */ for (i = 0; i < SIZE(objects); i++) { if (objects[i].oc_uname) { *** *** 193,198 --- 192,207 bwrite(fd, (char *) , sizeof len); bwrite(fd, objects[i].oc_uname, len); } + if (objects[i].oc_name) { + len = strlen(objects[i].oc_name) + 1; + bwrite(fd, (char *) , sizeof len); + bwrite(fd, objects[i].oc_name, len); + } + if (objects[i].oc_descr) { + len = strlen(objects[i].oc_descr) + 1; + bwrite(fd, (char *) , sizeof len); + bwrite(fd, objects[i].oc_descr, len); + } } } *** *** 205,215 --- 214,236 mread(fd, (char *) bases, sizeof bases); mread(fd, (char *) objects, sizeof objects); for (i = 0; i < SIZE(objects); i++) + { if (objects[i].oc_uname) { mread(fd, (char *) , sizeof len); objects[i].oc_uname = (char *) alloc(len); mread(fd, objects[i].oc_uname, len); } + if (objects[i].oc_name) { + mread(fd, (char *) , sizeof len); + objects[i].oc_name = (char *) alloc(len); + mread(fd, objects[i].oc_name, len); + } + if (objects[i].oc_descr) { + mread(fd, (char *) , sizeof len); + objects[i].oc_descr = (char *) alloc(len); + mread(fd, objects[i].oc_descr, len); + } + } } int ** Affects: bsdgames (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1758805 Title: Program hack in bsdgames-2.17.25 core dumps when you enter 'i' after restoring a saved game To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bsdgames/+bug/1758805/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures. At a minimum, we need: 1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem. 2. The behavior you expected. 3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible). [Bug 1757299] Re: [Dell OptiPlex 755] Intermittently GUI hangs with high xorg CPU% after launching applications
just had a lockup watching a youtube video in firefox-esr. i did something extremely simple, i think it was push the pavucontrol window behind the firefox-esr window, which did so, but immediately thereafter the video image froze, the mouse could still move the cursor but the mouse and keyboard were otherwise unable to get any response, not even to ctl-alt-Fn, nothing visible would be expected from ctl-alt- PrintScreen-s, saw no response to ctl-alt-PrintScreen-e either, nor, surprisingly, to ctl-alt-PrintScreen-k. The sound played on via pusleaudio and bluetooth into my headphones for 2 more minutes, then it fell silent. After 10 minutes it all remained thus. i tried to login via ssh but unfortunately my phone was connected to mobile data but not wifi so i presumed ubuntu was not responding via ssh either, heck it likely would have if the phone's wifi radio was enabled. well this occurrence does serve the purpose of verifying that the problem does occur in bionic either while playing video or not playing video. the system did respond to ctl-alt-PrintScreen-b and booted up normally. in /var/crash all i found was a file named .lock, zero length, dated 3-22 12:42:30pm. dunno what that's from, curious, no bash history survived from that day, this is what i found from around then in syslog: Mar 22 12:17:01 op755 CRON[7216]: (root) CMD ( cd / && run-parts --report /etc/cron.hourly) Mar 22 12:42:28 op755 kernel: [76631.137616] Web Content[4830]: segfault at fffe8 ip 7fc182a1aab1 sp 7ffee816bb10 error 4 in libxul.so[7fc17ee3+4e3] Mar 22 13:01:54 op755 bluetoothd[577]: /org/bluez/hci0/dev_00_0C_8A_AA_FE_70/fd1: fd(36) ready Mar 22 13:01:55 op755 rtkit-daemon[4718]: Supervising 1 threads of 1 processes of 1 users.
