Can someone please take a look at this. It is also happening on my Uncle's 16.04.4. It also happens when you run the unity 7 desktop on Ubuntu 18.04. I suspect this bug is due to the fact that more priority for Firefox is no place on the GNOME desktop, where the bug doesn't happen in 18.04 (but does with Unity 7 on 18.04). [Bug 1759462] [NEW] Keyboard shortcuts not operational on 18.04
Public bug reported: After installing 18.04, I noticed that certain keyboard shortcuts no longer function. It appears to be related to the shortcuts that gnome-settings-daemon control as my shortcuts that are provided by my desktop (Budgie) still function. Some examples are: * Media keys for volume up/down/mute * ctrl-alt-t for the terminal. I tried changing the shortcut to test. Same behaviour. I double checked, and it looks like the needed daemon is still running, ``` dustin3337 0.0 0.2 500736 22216 ?Sl 21:03 0:00 /usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon/gsd-keyboard dustin3338 0.0 0.3 943372 25732 ?Sl 21:03 0:00 /usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon/gsd-media-keys dustin3343 0.0 0.0 274908 5844 ?Sl 21:03 0:00 /usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon/gsd-mouse dustin3345 0.0 0.3 519896 25144 ?Sl 21:03 0:00 /usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon/gsd-power dustin3348 0.0 0.1 346004 10212 ?Sl 21:03 0:00 /usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon/gsd-print-notifications dustin3351 0.0 0.0 374684 7952 ?Sl 21:03 0:00 /usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon/gsd-smartcard dustin3355 0.0 0.1 329584 8064 ?Sl 21:03 0:00 /usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon/gsd-sound dustin3361 0.0 0.1 449708 9856 ?Sl 21:03 0:00 /usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon/gsd-sharing dustin3367 0.0 0.0 272416 4772 ?Sl 21:03 0:00 /usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon/gsd-screensaver-proxy dustin3375 0.0 0.0 420028 5804 ?Sl 21:03 0:00 /usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon/gsd-rfkill dustin3383 0.0 0.2 507120 23244 ?Sl 21:03 0:00 /usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon/gsd-wacom dustin3385 0.0 0.3 498040 25040 ?Sl 21:03 0:00 /usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon/gsd-xsettings dustin3387 0.0 0.0 274900 5936 ?Sl 21:03 0:00 /usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon/gsd-a11y-settings dustin3392 0.0 0.2 496016 22044 ?Sl 21:03 0:00 /usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon/gsd-clipboard dustin3395 0.0 0.3 810156 25976 ?Sl 21:03 0:00 /usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon/gsd-color dustin3396 0.0 0.2 471656 21080 ?Sl 21:03 0:00 /usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon/gsd-datetime dustin3400 0.0 0.0 361196 7116 ?Sl 21:03 0:00 /usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon/gsd-housekeeping dustin3433 0.0 0.1 505404 12576 ?Sl 21:03 0:00 /usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon/gsd-printer dustin9776 0.0 0.0 18188 1032 pts/1S+ 21:19 0:00 grep --color=auto gnome-settings-daemon ``` Reboot does not seem to help. [Bug 1759328] Re: computer crash when I change the desktop configuration
Yes, this happens to me to. However parts of KDE are still active. The desktop just crashes to a backscreen. To OP. If you press alt+space, krunner (search box) will appear. Type in plasmashell and then hit enter, and the desktop comes back. Just to clarify. Changing between desktop and folder view crashes the desktop. Happens with nvidia proprietary drivers or noveau. Re: [Bug 1758796] Re: Kernel Crash
Thanks for getting back to me. I've been running the system as a web server for 8 years round the clock and this is the first and only time I had an unexplained kernel crash. I sent the bug in because I was unable to interpret the dump and I was actually worried someone had hacked my system causing the failure. I'm willing to check the upstream kernel but I've been running on the rebooted system since and have not seen the problem again so I'm not sure how long I'd have to run to verify the new kernel made any difference. If you can tell me either that this was a straight failure and not a hack or tell me how I could break down the dump and understand where and how it failed I'd be ok with closing this out. I just wanted to be sure it wasn't caused by malicious outside activity. The only thing different I noticed from my last automatic server upgrade is that I'm getting periodic java exceptions seemingly trace to gnome when I'm on the system. Which way should I go? Thanks again for getting back to me, John > On Mar 27, 2018, at 5:54 PM, Joseph Salisbury >wrote: > > Did this issue start happening after an update/upgrade? [Bug 1754422] Re: [MIR] volume-key
I reviewed volume-key version 0.3.9-3 as checked into bionic. This should not be considered a full security audit but rather a quick gauge of maintainability. - No CVEs in our database. - volume-key's main purpose is to provide some key escrow capabilities for encrypted storage - Build-Depends: debhelper, libglib2.0-dev, libcryptsetup-dev, libnss3-dev, libgpgme11-dev, libblkid-dev, swig, python-dev, libnss3-tools - Does not daemonize - No networking - Does Cryptography - No pre/post inst/rm - No init scripts - No systemd unit files - No dbus services - No setuid files - volume_key in PATH - No sudo fragments - No udev rules - There is a test suite but it doesn't appear useful as a quality tool - No cron jobs - Some warnings in the build logs, not ideal - No subprocesses spawned - I found some probable errors in memory management, but mostly good: - kmip_decode_object_symmetric_key() return -1 case leaks res? - kmip_decode_key_value() default: case leaks res? - kmip_decode_object_secret_data() return -1 case leaks res? - Files opened are controlled by the user - Logging looked careful - No privileged operations - Extensive cryptographic operations - No networking - No privileged portions of code - No temp files - No WebKit - No JavaScript - Clean cppcheck - No PolicyKit I don't like promoting this package to main already. The tests shouldn't be failing in a brand-new project. The fact that nss's certutil's use of UpdateRNG() does a bunch of garbage with the terminal and prints lies about what it is doing suggests that certutil itself is not suitable for use by this project: https://sources.debian.org/src/nss/2:3.35-2/nss/cmd/certutil/keystuff.c/?hl=67#L67 I'd be much happier promoting volume-key for 18.10. However, we've already gotten complaints from our users that their encrypted storage no longer works because the old mechanism has apparently already been torn down. If there's no way to bring back the old mechanism, then.. Security team begrudging ACK for promoting volume-key to main. But I'd be happier if we could just bring back what used to work. [Bug 1756633] Re: Backport request, 16.04 LTS (w/ Spectre/Meltdown fixups)
@sdeziel -- I have tested on an Ivy Bridge era (i5-3427U) and Apollo Lake era (N3350) system thus far. The former is covered by the Intel 20180312 release, the latter is not. If time permits I'll also test on a Skylake system. Everything seems to be working properly w/r2 updated microcode query and load during early InitRAMfs phase. [Bug 1730554] Re: gnome-shell (3.24.2) crashed with segfault
A bug can only stay open if it has useful information to help someone fix it, and this one does not (yet). Crash files should not be attached to bugs because we generally can't debug them without extra retracing. Please only send crash files using the 'ubuntu-bug' command. Bugs are often overloaded with many different people commenting on them. For a crash bug this is a problem, because it's highly likely each person is actually experiencing a different crash with the same apparent symptoms. So everyone please only report crashes using: ubuntu-bug /var/crash/YOURFILE.crash But if you are not running the current development release of Ubuntu then you will need to apply a workaround from bug 994921 before that will work. Finally, release 17.04 is no longer supported after January 13, 2018.
