[Bug 1758107] Re: View > Toolbars is Missing "Bookmarks Toolbar"

2018-03-27 Thread Lonnie Lee Best
Can someone please take a look at this. It is also happening on my
Uncle's 16.04.4.

It also happens when you run the unity 7 desktop on Ubuntu 18.04.

I suspect this bug is due to the fact that more priority for Firefox is
no place on the GNOME desktop, where the bug doesn't happen in 18.04
(but does with Unity 7 on 18.04).

However, in 16.04 LTS, this bug should be fixed.

[Bug 1759462] [NEW] Keyboard shortcuts not operational on 18.04

2018-03-27 Thread Dustin Krysak
Public bug reported:

After installing 18.04, I noticed that certain keyboard shortcuts no
longer function.

It appears to be related to the shortcuts that gnome-settings-daemon
control as my shortcuts that are provided by my desktop (Budgie) still
function.

Some examples are:

* Media keys for volume up/down/mute
* ctrl-alt-t for the terminal. I tried changing the shortcut to test. Same
behaviour.

I double checked, and it looks like the needed daemon is still running,

[Bug 1759328] Re: computer crash when I change the desktop configuration

2018-03-27 Thread Matt
Yes, this happens to me to. However parts of KDE are still active. The
desktop just crashes to a backscreen. To OP. If you press alt+space,
krunner (search box) will appear. Type in plasmashell and then hit
enter, and the desktop comes back.

Just to clarify. Changing between desktop and folder view crashes the desktop.
Happens with nvidia proprietary drivers or noveau.

Still present in nightly builds.

[Bug 1665126] Re: Snaps do not show in categories

2018-03-27 Thread Robert Ancell
** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+ Snaps are not shown in categories.
+
+ [Test Case]
+ 1. Open GNOME Software
+ 2. Select "Games" category at the bottom of the page.
+ 3. Select "All"
+ 4. Look for pin-town (a snap game)
+
+ Expected result:
+ Game is shown
+
+ Observed result:
+ Game is not shown.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+ Loading snap information in category screens could trigger new bugs.
+
  1- I uploaded a snap on myapps.developer.ubuntu.com
2- I choose Category: Games (note that I cannot choose a sub-category (Kids))
3- Default type: ? (I choose application, but not sure what it does exactly)
4- Opening Ubuntu Software on Ubuntu 16.04 I can find and install it when
using the search bar
5- BUT my application is not listed in any categories, not even in Games - All
6- After installing the application, I can see it listed in Games - Kids
(because the .desktop file have this entry Categories=Game;KidsGame?)

Looks like only .deb are listed in categories within Ubuntu Software?

Note that a "standard" search for $ reverse-depends src:click gets
confused by the fact that src:click used to ship python3-click, but
doesn't anymore due to a naming conflict with an unrelated
python3-click.

Re: [Bug 1758796] Re: Kernel Crash

2018-03-27 Thread Johnny Wunder
Thanks for getting back to me.

I've been running the system as a web server for 8 years round the clock
and this is the first and only time I had an unexplained kernel crash.
I sent the bug in because I was unable to interpret the dump and I was
actually worried someone had hacked my system causing the failure.

I'm willing to check the upstream kernel but I've been running on the
rebooted system since and have not seen the problem again so I'm not
sure how long I'd have to run to verify the new kernel made any
difference.

If you can tell me either that this was a straight failure and not a
hack or tell me how I could break down the dump and understand where and
how it failed I'd be ok with closing this out. I just wanted to be sure
it wasn't caused by malicious outside activity.

The only thing different I noticed from my last automatic server upgrade
is that I'm getting periodic java exceptions seemingly trace to gnome
when I'm on the system.

Which way should I go?

Thanks again for getting back to me,
John

Sadly, the project is not new at all (although it's only in Debian now
because of udisks2). The current release packaged in Ubuntu, 0.3.9, was
released in 2012.

[Bug 1754422] Re: [MIR] volume-key

2018-03-27 Thread Seth Arnold
I reviewed volume-key version 0.3.9-3 as checked into bionic. This should
not be considered a full security audit but rather a quick gauge of
maintainability.

- No CVEs in our database.
- volume-key's main purpose is to provide some key escrow capabilities for
  encrypted storage

- Build-Depends: debhelper, libglib2.0-dev, libcryptsetup-dev,
  libnss3-dev, libgpgme11-dev, libblkid-dev, swig, python-dev,
  libnss3-tools
- Does not daemonize
- No networking
- Does Cryptography
- No pre/post inst/rm
- No init scripts
- No systemd unit files
- No dbus services
- No setuid files
- volume_key in PATH
- No sudo fragments
- No udev rules
- There is a test suite but it doesn't appear useful as a quality tool
- No cron jobs
- Some warnings in the build logs, not ideal

- No subprocesses spawned
- I found some probable errors in memory management, but mostly good:
  - kmip_decode_object_symmetric_key() return -1 case leaks res?
  - kmip_decode_key_value() default: case leaks res?
  - kmip_decode_object_secret_data() return -1 case leaks res?
- Files opened are controlled by the user
- Logging looked careful
- No privileged operations
- Extensive cryptographic operations
- No networking
- No privileged portions of code
- No temp files
- No WebKit
- No JavaScript
- Clean cppcheck
- No PolicyKit

I don't like promoting this package to main already. The tests shouldn't
be failing in a brand-new project. The fact that nss's certutil's use of
UpdateRNG() does a bunch of garbage with the terminal and prints lies
about what it is doing suggests that certutil itself is not suitable for
use by this project:

https://sources.debian.org/src/nss/2:3.35-2/nss/cmd/certutil/keystuff.c/?hl=67#L67

I'd be much happier promoting volume-key for 18.10.

However, we've already gotten complaints from our users that their
encrypted storage no longer works because the old mechanism has apparently
already been torn down.

If there's no way to bring back the old mechanism, then..

Security team begrudging ACK for promoting volume-key to main. But I'd be
happier if we could just bring back what used to work.

Thanks

[Bug 1730775] Re: [Feature][CFL][ICL] [CNL]Thunderbolt support (Titan Ridge)

2018-03-27 Thread Anthony Wong
The main patchset "thunderbolt: Add support for Intel Titan Ridge" has been
merged upstream:
- already merged into
https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/westeri/thunderbolt.git/log/?h=next

There are two other related patchsets for thunderbolt native mode, one of which
is still under review:
1. PCI: Fixes for native PCIe and ACPI hotplug
- https://patchwork.ozlabs.org/cover/877884/
- still pending on maintainer review

2. [PATCH] ACPICA: Recognize the Windows 10 RS3 OSI string
- https://marc.info/?l=linux-acpi=151854485331385=2
- this one has a dependency on the previous one.

[Bug 1759450] [NEW] Raleigh theme has hardly visible controls

2018-03-27 Thread Michael Lueck
Public bug reported:

Comparing Xubuntu 16.04 to 18.04, same theme settings... certain
controls are hardly visible on Xubuntu 18.04.

Please see the attached comparisons.

I configured the 18.04 system same as my 16.04 system, with the following
selections:
http://www.lueckdatasystems.com/Custom_assembled_attractive_dark_blue_theme_for_Xfce_with_Raleigh_Adwaita_and_Moheli_on_Xubuntu_16.04

1) First set the window style and icons as follows:
Settings Manager \ Appearance \ Style tab \ select Raleigh
Settings Manager \ Appearance \ Icons tab \ select Adwaita

Click the button labeled "All Settings" to go back to the main Settings
Manager

2) Next set the window manager as follows:
Settings Manager \ Window Manager \ Style tab \ select Moheli

And #4

4) Finally, edit the ~/.gtkrc-2.0 configuration file:
# Custom styles

style "default"
{
  bg[SELECTED] = "#3B5998" #Active Window Title Bar
}

style "entry" = "default"
{
  text[SELECTED] = "#FF" #Input control selected text
}

class "GtkWidget" style "default"
class "GtkEntry" style "entry"

# End custom styles

The text field of the password box is invisible. The buttons on the
password box are invisible.

Results of the Synaptic screen are also provided.

The issue seems to be in the Raleigh Style. Switching to the Greybird
Style at least fixes the invisible controls.

What has happened to the Raleigh Style?

2018-03-27 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Please don't attach crash files to bugs because we can't debug them
manually, and it's a security risk for yourself.

To send us a crash file securely and in a way that we can debug, run
this command:

  ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_usr_bin_gnome-shell.1000.crash

and then let us know here the ID of the newly-created bug.

[Bug 1756633] Re: Backport request, 16.04 LTS (w/ Spectre/Meltdown fixups)

2018-03-27 Thread Jason Mills
@sdeziel -- I have tested on an Ivy Bridge era (i5-3427U) and Apollo
Lake era (N3350) system thus far. The former is covered by the Intel
20180312 release, the latter is not. If time permits I'll also test on a
Skylake system.

Everything seems to be working properly w/r2 updated microcode query and
load during early InitRAMfs phase.

Install media was Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS Server x86_64, patched to current but with
both old and new kernels available. I did have to pull the .deb packages in
manually, the PPA you referenced is no longer accepted automagically -- signing
key cannot be found.

Details for the tests I performed on the Ivy Bridge system follow:

[Bug 1730554] Re: gnome-shell (3.24.2) crashed with segfault

2018-03-27 Thread Daniel van Vugt
A bug can only stay open if it has useful information to help someone
fix it, and this one does not (yet).

Crash files should not be attached to bugs because we generally can't
debug them without extra retracing. Please only send crash files using
the 'ubuntu-bug' command.

Bugs are often overloaded with many different people commenting on them.
For a crash bug this is a problem, because it's highly likely each
person is actually experiencing a different crash with the same apparent
symptoms. So everyone please only report crashes using:

  ubuntu-bug /var/crash/YOURFILE.crash

But if you are not running the current development release of Ubuntu
then you will need to apply a workaround from bug 994921 before that
will work.

Finally, release 17.04 is no longer supported after January 13, 2018. So
please be sure to upgrade to a supported version of Ubuntu:
