[Bug 1661869] Re: maas install fails inside of a 16.04 lxd container due to avahi problems
Sure thing! I conducted two tests based on the reproduction steps in the SRU template * setup lxd (apt install lxd, lxd init, get working networking) * lxc launch ubuntu:16.04 avahi-test --config security.privileged=true * lxc exec avahi-test sudo apt install avahi-daemon For xenial, artful versions I installed a container, installed the current package and then verified that it failed to install/start as expected. I then removed that container, created a fresh container, enabled -proposed and tested the install again to ensure it succeeded with the new version. I then further installed avahi-utils and executed "avahi-browse -a" to ensure services from the network were appearing and that the /etc/avahi/avahi-daemon.conf file had changed as expected based on the patch (which was the only change, there are no code changes). For trusty I conducted the same tests however the initial package install does not fail under LXD due to a patch within the trusty version of avahi that skips the nproc rlimit when inside containers for reasons that no longer apply to modern lxd versions, however I did still ensure the avahi-daemon.conf file was updated as expected. The patch is still required on trusty because a host that has containers on it, will still have the problem with the avahi instance on the host itself that still has the rlimit applied (even though the containers themselves don't see the issue). Lastly for each version I also installed the broken version and tested that an upgrade also went as expected rather than fresh install for completeness. Hope that helps. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1661869 Title: maas install fails inside of a 16.04 lxd container due to avahi problems To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/maas/+bug/1661869/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I have 10Gb of RAM in this system and run Fedora 26. If I launch Cities: Skylines with no swap space, things run well performance wise until I get an OOM - and it all dies - which is expected. When I turn on swap to /dev/sda2 which resides on an SSD, I get complete system freezes while swap is being accessed. The first swap was after loading a saved game, then launching kmail in the background. This caused ~500Mb to be swapped to /dev/sda2 on an SSD. The system froze for about 8 minutes - barely being able to move the mouse. The HDD LED was on constantly during the entire time. To hopefully rule out the above glibc issue, I started the game via jemalloc - but experienced even more severe freezes while swapping. I gave up waiting after 13 minutes of non-responsiveness - not even being able to move the mouse properly. During these hangs, I could typed into a Konsole window, and some of the typing took 3+ minutes to display on the screen (yay for buffers?). I have tested this with both the default vm.swappiness values, as well as the following: vm.swappiness = 1 vm.min_free_kbytes = 32768 vm.vfs_cache_pressure = 60 I noticed that when I do eventually get screen updates, all 8 cpus (4 cores / 2 threads) show 100% CPU usage - and kswapd is right up there in the process list for CPU usage. Sadly I haven't been able to capture this information fully yet due to said unresponsiveness. This seems to be a relatively new problem that I did not encounter during the Fedora 26 beta - but do now. [Bug 1760435] Re: Use Ubuntu language packs for various indicators
I just took a closer look at indicator-sound, and indeed I saw the line "X-Ubuntu-Use-Langpack: yes" which was added at the latest upload on 2017-08-29. And the translation template is present in artful, but not in bionic. @Sebastien: Someone must have deleted it; I can't see another explanation. I made an attempt to upload the template manually, but that seems to not have worked. Maybe another upload - just a no-change rebuild? - is needed to make LP acknowledge the template for bionic. @Sebastien: We need your advice here. Are no-change rebuilds necessary, or is there a better way? @Simon: As regards the unity-* packages: Yeah, I would like to see a full list too. Just noticed that unity-control-center has that line, but the unity package has not... Possibly we need to upload all packages, whether that line is already there or not, and add it if it isn't there. [Bug 1623666] Re: iOS device contents not displayed in Ubuntu
Following up to my #49: I'm working with Ubuntu 16.04.4 LTS. The Martin Salbaba ppa had been working for me with an iphone 5 and iOS 10.3 Recently I went to a new phone running iOS 11, and I fail to get to photos with ifuse after an apparently successful "idevicepair pair". Ifuse complains about "lockdownd". The libimobiledevice packages show version 1.2.0+git20161018-3salbabix27xenial. The ifuse package shows version 1.1.2-0.1build3. At bug 1718554, there is the suggestion of a procedure for re-building from source. It is said that this will fix the problem. I have not tried it. I would rather have an updated package rather than blindly follow building-from-source instructions. Question: Is the Martin Salbaba ppa the standard location for the libimobiledevice6 and libimobiledevice-utils packages? If not, where? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1623666 Title: iOS device contents not displayed in Ubuntu To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/libimobiledevice/+bug/1623666/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1760512] [NEW] Falkon doesn't store any login passwords unless the backend is KWallet.
Public bug reported: Falkon won't store any site login passwords unless the bundled extension allowing it to use KWallet is enabled and set as the backend for the password manager. [Bug 1718554] Re: Need updated libimobiledevice to mount IOS 11 devices
I wish to second the request of #5 that working access to photos on iphones be kept up to date in xenial. For the credibility of xenial's LTS status this should be done. Up to the recent time of a new device with iOS 11, I had things working with iOS 10.3 using Martin Salbaba's ppa for the packages libimobiledevice6 and libimobiledevice-utils. Even going for a ppa raises unnecessary system maintenance work for something as basic as retrieving photos from a phone. My impression is that there have been repeated stumbling blocks related to the issue of whether iOS wants ssl or tls. I would like to hope that ubuntu at runtime can decide to go either way even if iOS (which should be able to go either way) cannot. [Bug 1760482] Re: Translation files for Synaptic are missing
Yes, they were, but the package change happened a couple of hours after the export which preceded the creation of the latest language packs. [Bug 1694454] Re: Can't open gnome terminal
Awesome observation Chris, Now that you mention it, I also have other DE installed. But the issue appears without login into any of them beforehand. I've noticed that sometimes when I login into other DE -> logout -> and login again to gnome the apps works normally. Not sure which one I have a few. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1694454 Title: Can't open gnome terminal To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-terminal/+bug/1694454/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
