[Bug 1760539] [NEW] QCA9377 WIFI does not work full speed

2018-04-01 Thread Qusai Abu Hilal
Public bug reported:

I'm using Ubuntu 18.04, development branch, and I have
QCA9377 802.11ac Wireless Network Adapter

When I connect it to WiFi hotspot in 2.4G mode I will get only 1MBps, and
When I connect it to WiFi hotspot in 5G mode I will get only 6MBps.

I think an updated firmware is needed.

Running:
Ubuntu 4.15.0-13.14-generic 4.15.10

[Bug 1661869] Re: maas install fails inside of a 16.04 lxd container due to avahi problems

2018-04-01 Thread Trent Lloyd
Sure thing!

I conducted two tests based on the reproduction steps in the SRU
template

 * setup lxd (apt install lxd, lxd init, get working networking)
 * lxc launch ubuntu:16.04 avahi-test --config security.privileged=true
 * lxc exec avahi-test sudo apt install avahi-daemon

For xenial, artful versions I installed a container, installed the
current package and then verified that it failed to install/start as
expected. I then removed that container, created a fresh container,
enabled -proposed and tested the install again to ensure it succeeded
with the new version. I then further installed avahi-utils and executed
"avahi-browse -a" to ensure services from the network were appearing and
that the /etc/avahi/avahi-daemon.conf file had changed as expected based
on the patch (which was the only change, there are no code changes).

For trusty I conducted the same tests however the initial package
install does not fail under LXD due to a patch within the trusty version
of avahi that skips the nproc rlimit when inside containers for reasons
that no longer apply to modern lxd versions, however I did still ensure
the avahi-daemon.conf file was updated as expected. The patch is still
required on trusty because a host that has containers on it, will still
have the problem with the avahi instance on the host itself that still
has the rlimit applied (even though the containers themselves don't see
the issue).

Lastly for each version I also installed the broken version and tested
that an upgrade also went as expected rather than fresh install for
completeness.

Hope that helps.

The plymouth initramfs hook has no l10n support.

Probably. Even if it was, it would still be a bug for the plymouth hook to
require it without a dependency.

After a fix to glibc that fixed Unity 3D based games (Fedora ref: https://
bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1440287), I have noticed that when I play
Cities: Skylines that the system becomes unresponsive when digging into swap.

I have 10Gb of RAM in this system and run Fedora 26. If I launch Cities:
Skylines with no swap space, things run well performance wise until I get an
OOM - and it all dies - which is expected.

When I turn on swap to /dev/sda2 which resides on an SSD, I get complete
system freezes while swap is being accessed.

The first swap was after loading a saved game, then launching kmail in the
background. This caused ~500Mb to be swapped to /dev/sda2 on an SSD. The
system froze for about 8 minutes - barely being able to move the mouse. The
HDD LED was on constantly during the entire time.

To hopefully rule out the above glibc issue, I started the game via jemalloc -
but experienced even more severe freezes while swapping. I gave up waiting
after 13 minutes of non-responsiveness - not even being able to move the mouse
properly.

During these hangs, I could typed into a Konsole window, and some of the
typing took 3+ minutes to display on the screen (yay for buffers?).

I have tested this with both the default vm.swappiness values, as well as the
following:
vm.swappiness = 1
vm.min_free_kbytes = 32768
vm.vfs_cache_pressure = 60

I noticed that when I do eventually get screen updates, all 8 cpus (4 cores /
2 threads) show 100% CPU usage - and kswapd is right up there in the process
list for CPU usage. Sadly I haven't been able to capture this information
fully yet due to said unresponsiveness.

This seems to be a relatively new problem that I did not encounter during the
Fedora 26 beta - but do now.

[Bug 1760435] Re: Use Ubuntu language packs for various indicators

2018-04-01 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
I just took a closer look at indicator-sound, and indeed I saw the line
"X-Ubuntu-Use-Langpack: yes" which was added at the latest upload on
2017-08-29. And the translation template is present in artful, but not
in bionic.

@Sebastien: Someone must have deleted it; I can't see another
explanation.

I made an attempt to upload the template manually, but that seems to not
have worked. Maybe another upload - just a no-change rebuild? - is
needed to make LP acknowledge the template for bionic.

@Sebastien: We need your advice here. Are no-change rebuilds necessary,
or is there a better way?

@Simon: As regards the unity-* packages: Yeah, I would like to see a
full list too. Just noticed that unity-control-center has that line, but
the unity package has not...

Possibly we need to upload all packages, whether that line is already
there or not, and add it if it isn't there. But let's await Seb's
response before proceeding.

[Bug 1760435] Re: Use Ubuntu language packs for various indicators

2018-04-01 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
I looked at:

https://launchpadlibrarian.net/362929320/indicator-
datetime_15.10+17.10.20170829.2-0ubuntu3_15.10+17.10.20170829.2-0ubuntu4.diff.gz

and it looks perfectly fine to me. Ready for the archive IMO. :) Thanks!

Are you saying that that line is there already for all the other
indicator-* packages?

Can you please also check out the unity-* packages, for instance those I
mentioned in the community hub.

This is mapped to this PPA: https://launchpad.net/~ci-train-ppa-

I'll upload this set of packages there, but then I'd like some
verification that this is the whole stack that needs these changes. I

[Bug 1758306] Re: Cannot switch mouse primary button in GCC

2018-04-01 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
Thanks for your report.

It works fine for me on g-c-c 1:3.28.0-0ubuntu6.

The command line way to set it for left-handed is:

gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.peripherals.mouse left-handed true

and to see the current setting:

gsettings get org.gnome.desktop.peripherals.mouse left-handed

Changing that value is what the GUI in g-c-c is for. Can you please
check, through the latter command, if the value is changed when you use
g-c-c?

[Bug 1623666] Re: iOS device contents not displayed in Ubuntu

2018-04-01 Thread William F Hammond
Following up to my #49:

I'm working with Ubuntu 16.04.4 LTS.

The Martin Salbaba ppa had been working for me with an iphone 5 and iOS
10.3

Recently I went to a new phone running iOS 11, and I fail to get to
photos with ifuse after an apparently successful "idevicepair pair".
Ifuse complains about "lockdownd".

The libimobiledevice packages show version
1.2.0+git20161018-3salbabix27xenial.

The ifuse package shows version 1.1.2-0.1build3.

At bug 1718554, there is the suggestion of a procedure for re-building
from source. It is said that this will fix the problem. I have not
tried it. I would rather have an updated package rather than blindly
follow building-from-source instructions.

Question: Is the Martin Salbaba ppa the standard location for the
libimobiledevice6 and libimobiledevice-utils packages? If not, where?

[Bug 1760512] [NEW] Falkon doesn't store any login passwords unless the backend is KWallet.

2018-04-01 Thread Ryan
Public bug reported:

Falkon won't store any site login passwords unless the bundled extension
allowing it to use KWallet is enabled and set as the backend for the
password manager.

I suggest that this configuration should be the default.

There's still the separate issue of the password field detection not
working at all on numerous sites
(https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=391327), but that is caused by a
number of problems in both Falkon and the Qt Web Engine component. The
Falkon issue seems to have a fix committed for a future release, but I'm
not sure about what will be done for the cases that detection failure is
due to Web Engine.

[Bug 1718554] Re: Need updated libimobiledevice to mount IOS 11 devices

2018-04-01 Thread William F Hammond
I wish to second the request of #5 that working access to photos on
iphones be kept up to date in xenial. For the credibility of xenial's
LTS status this should be done.

Up to the recent time of a new device with iOS 11, I had things working with
iOS 10.3 using
Martin Salbaba's ppa for the packages libimobiledevice6 and
libimobiledevice-utils.

Even going for a ppa raises unnecessary system maintenance work for
something as basic as retrieving photos from a phone.

My impression is that there have been repeated stumbling blocks related
to the issue of whether iOS wants ssl or tls. I would like to hope that
ubuntu at runtime can decide to go either way even if iOS (which should
be able to go either way) cannot. (Maybe this is an
oversimplification.)

[Bug 1760501] [NEW] Photo display fail when scrolling large collection (blank screen) on 4k display

2018-04-01 Thread Joseph Maillardet via ubuntu-bugs
Public bug reported:

On my 3200x1800 monitor, when browsing my photo collection (Library >
Photo), after scrolling something like 20 to 30 screens, the thumbnail
window blank. After, I only see the grey colour of my gtk theme where is
normally show images thumbnails.

If I scroll back or change folder and back to Library>Photo, the problem
is not solved. But, if I scroll back sufficiently and change folder and
came back, thumbnail display is restored until I scroll down to the
limit again...

[Bug 1711337] Re: Firefox crashes at start on armv7L after 55.0.1 update

2018-04-01 Thread herrtimson via ubuntu-bugs
The fix from 59.0.1 to 59.0.2 is literally two lines, it shouldn't be a
problem.

Thank you for all of your effort, what you write about the messy
assembler code seems reasonable. The more I read through the comments in
that file, the more I wonder how this could ever worked out in the past.

There is a github read-only mirror of firefox code, it has history
function to track down change of files and whole folders much easier, in
case you need more evidence: https://github.com/mozilla/gecko-
dev/tree/master/xpcom/reflect/xptcall/md/unix/

I'm now going to install glibc debug symbols, to see if the debugger is
broken.

[Bug 1592405] Re: plymouth hook in initramfs needs font but doesn't Depend on it

2018-04-01 Thread Jb
I retested bionic lubuntu alternate 20180401. This iso includes
"plymouth 0.9.3-1ubutu4". Note: this version of plymouth ends in ".4"
and not the ".3" version mentioned in comment #11.

When I reviewed the syslog from the install there are still errors with
the update-initramfs due to the missing font file.

I think .4 is an upstream merge from Debian?:
http://changelogs.ubuntu.com/changelogs/pool/main/p/plymouth/plymouth_0.9.3-1ubuntu4/changelog

Did version .4 undo the fixes in the .3 version?

[Bug 1697968] Re: $vt_handoff causes black screen even when nomodeset is used

2018-04-01 Thread TJ
Confirmed after a user in #ubuntu reported this after using the mini.iso
to install a basic non-GUI system. I reproduced it.

grub2's default is to add 'quiet splash' to GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT.

When 'splash' is there /etc/grub.d/10_linux detects it and adds
"vt.handoff=" to GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT before grub.cfg is
generated.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Reviewing your dmesg attachment in this bug report it
seems that there is a problem with your hardware. I recommend
performing a back up and then investigating the situation. Measures you
might take include checking cable connections and using software tools
to investigate the health of your hardware. In the event that is is not
in fact an error with your hardware please set the bug's status back to
New. Thanks and good luck!

Now that you mention it, I also have other DE installed. But the issue appears
without login into any of them beforehand.

I've noticed that sometimes when I login into other DE -> logout -> and login
again to gnome the apps works normally. Not sure which one I have a few.

2018-04-01 Thread AsciiWolf
