[Bug 1764853] Re: winbind returns PAM_AUTHINFO_UNAVAIL on first login after reboot

2018-04-17 Thread msaxl
1) Yes, it is a desktop system, but not a wireless system, so network is
available (NetworkManager).
I've checked that with ssh-ing into this machine with a local account. Both
wbinfo -p and wbinfo -P showed everything is online. But also in this case the
first domain login failes.

2) It is a upgrade installation (without netplan)

3) Quick question: is there a documentation how to manually migrate to
netplan in a desktop system?

We have not seen this issue in
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/util-linux/2.27.1-6ubuntu3.5 version.
So we could like to know if you could include this version in 16.04.04 Ubuntu
version..

The expected value is

Hypervisor vendor: KVM
Virtualization type: para

root@guest:~/util-linux# ./lscpu
Architecture:ppc64le
Byte Order: Little Endian
CPU(s): 2
On-line CPU(s) list: 0,1
Thread(s) per core: 2
Core(s) per socket: 1
Socket(s): 1
NUMA node(s):1
Model: 2.2 (pvr 004e 1202)
Model name: POWER8 (architected), altivec supported
Hypervisor vendor: KVM
Virtualization type: para
L1d cache: 32K
L1i cache: 32K
NUMA node0 CPU(s): 0,1

We downloaded the below upstream code and did not see the issue.

[Bug 1641099] Re: PCManFM & Nautilus crash immediately after opening

2018-04-17 Thread Ryan C. Underwood
I also had this segfault, and deleting the named socket also fixed it.

The only difference I could observe is that the initial connect() call
to the socket produced -1 ECONNREFUSED on a failed run (where it already
existed), and on a successful run (where it did not already exist) the
connect() call produced -1 ENOENT. Everything subsequent looked
identical until the crash. Could it just be bogus error handling when a
defunct named socket is left around due to a system crash, resume
failure, etc?

[Bug 1505409] Re: gnome-shell crashed with SIGTRAP in x_io_error() from _XIOError() from _XEventsQueued() from XPending() from gdk_check_xpending() ["Connection to xwayland lost"]

^^^
I feel conflicted about letting gnome-shell just exit. It will result in some
people logging bug reports that we can't diagnose, but those will be orders of
magnitude fewer than what we see now.

So short term for 18.04, it's a good idea. Slightly beyond that, it's
going to keep hurting us if nobody fixes Xwayland.

Please run Shutter from command line and attach the log output. Also, do
you use the Xorg session? Shutter doesn't support Wayland,
unfortunately.

[Bug 1764935] [NEW] kernel 4.13.0 not backwards compatible with virtualbox 5.0.18

2018-04-17 Thread Humphrey van Polanen Petel
Public bug reported:

Due to the latest changes in VirtualBox
kernel 4.13.0 is not compatible with VirtualBox 5.1.34 and
kernel 4.4.0 is not compatible with VirtualBox 5.1.34
due to the latest changes in the kernel
kernel 4.13.0 not backwards compatible with VirtualBox 5.0.18
but
kernel 4.4.0 is compatible with VirtualBox 5.0.18

The incompatibility of VirtualBox 5.1.34 is caused by Oracle phasing out
support for running in 'raw mode' so that system without VT-x can no longer run
VMs.
The lack of backwards compatibility of kernel 4.13.0 is not known to me (being
a non-expert).

I have requested Oracle to provide (and support) a 'heritage' version
(see: https://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?f=7=87387).

However, the fact that VirtualBox 5.0.18 is in the repositories (i.e.
listed in Synaptic) means that kernel 4.13.0 is deemed to be compatible
with VirtualBox 5.0.18.

Basically, a udev rule file that looks like this:

SUBSYSTEM=="memory", ACTION=="online", PROGRAM="/bin/systemctl try-restart
kdump-tools.service"
SUBSYSTEM=="memory", ACTION=="offline", PROGRAM="/bin/systemctl try-restart
kdump-tools.service"
SUBSYSTEM=="cpu", ACTION=="add", PROGRAM="/bin/systemctl try-restart
kdump-tools.service"
SUBSYSTEM=="cpu", ACTION=="remove", PROGRAM="/bin/systemctl try-restart
kdump-tools.service"

put in "/lib/udev/rules.d" dir as part of the kdump-tools package to avoid the
need to
manually reload kdump..

Thanks
Hari

[Bug 1764932] Re: Xubuntu 18.04 i386 beta 2: After splash screen, installation hangs on black screen

2018-04-17 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1764932/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1764628] Re: incorrect hypervisor and virtualization type reported in compat mode guest

2018-04-17 Thread Steve Langasek
There seems to be no reason for https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source
/util-linux/2.27.1-6ubuntu3.5 to fix this bug, since that is a targeted
bugfix; and I understand your bug report to be asking if it's
reproducible with this version, rather than telling that it is not.

What are the values you expect in the output of lscpu for the
"Hypervisor vendor" and "Virtualization type" fields that you highlight?
In what upstream version of util-linux is this known to be fixed?

[Bug 1550124] Re: package libjpeg-progs 8c-2ubuntu8 failed to install/upgrade: trying to overwrite '/usr/bin/rdjpgcom', which is also in package libjpeg-turbo-progs 1.4.2-0ubuntu1

2018-04-17 Thread Jarno Suni
Why would you want to install both libjpeg-progs and libjpeg-turbo-progs?
"apt-cache depends libjpeg-progs" tells they conflict and replace each other.

I noticed similar issue after upgrading from Trusty to Xenial. Both packages
were installed. I resolved that by purging libjpeg-progs. I did not want to
purge libjpeg-turbo-progs, because jhead depends on it and I wanted to keep it.
I had no problem by purging libjpeg-progs by apt, but some have had and here is
related post:
https://askubuntu.com/q/766929/21005

BTW what is libjpeg8-empty?

Right, I wasn't give it too much hoping.
I'll escalate the issue to UVC upstream to let them know the issue.
I'll also ask Realtek if there's a way (maybe via USB control message) to
switch between UVC1.0/UVC1.5.

[Bug 1764932] [NEW] Xubuntu 18.04 i386 beta 2: After splash screen, installation hangs on black screen

2018-04-17 Thread Ken T
Public bug reported:

Downloaded Xubuntu 18.04 i386 beta 2, checked sha256sum, created
bootable USB via a known-working ubuntu machine.

The first thing that appeared was an error message "gfxboot.c32: not a
COM32R image", but I pressed tab, typed "live" and hit enter, and the
installation proceeded. Xubuntu splash screen appeared with loading
animation. Once this disappeared, I saw a line of text flash up at the
top of the screen (too quick for me to read), then the installation
hangs on a black screen, with a grey bar faintly visible across the top
of the screen. I tried the install process again, but got the same
result.

Now, a few footnotes:
1) the error message "gfxboot.c32: not a COM32R image" is the same one I
reported on a daily build of Lubuntu 18.04 back in February under Bug #1747329,
with two important differences: a) in that case but not this one, the
installation proceeded fine after pressing tab then typing "live", and b) as
noted on that bug report, that error message is no longer apparent as of
Lubuntu 18.04 beta 2.

2) The machine I tried this install on is a 2005-era Dell Latitude D610
laptop, 1GB RAM, and I've successfully installed several *buntus on this
machine before, including 18.04 daily builds & betas for Lubuntu and
Ubuntu Budgie. I haven't been able to run apport on under Xubuntu
(obviously), but have attached apport logs to this ticket taken from
that machine during earlier bug reports.

Thanks,
Ken.

[Bug 1764928] [NEW] Please document apt-daily

2018-04-17 Thread madumlao
Public bug reported:

The following systemd services are installed along with apt:

/lib/systemd/system/apt-daily.timer
/lib/systemd/system/apt-daily-upgrade.timer
/lib/systemd/system/apt-daily-upgrade.service
/lib/systemd/system/apt-daily.service

By default, these run the equivalent of "apt update", and "apt upgrade"
at specified times. However, this behavior is documented nowhere in the
man pages or /usr/share/doc.

Furthermore, they run the command /usr/lib/apt/apt.systemd.daily, which
is also undocumented, nor does it respond to a --help option. A non-
savvy Linux user will not be able to determine that this is a shell
script and find out what it does. Or worse, a partially-savvy Linux user
will be able to determine that this is a shell script, and will read it
imperfectly (usage is also not described in script comments) ending up
with a wrong idea of what it does.

The idea is to keep the system updates. That is a GOOD THING (tm).

But it relies on undocumented behavior. That is a BAD THING (tm).

Can we have the apt-daily service documented?

[Bug 1764924] [NEW] Intel HD Graphics 630 can not use three displays but HD 530 can

2018-04-17 Thread Qianqian Fang
Public bug reported:

My Ubuntu (14.04 LTS) desktop used to have an Intel 6700K CPU and I have
been using the built in HD Graphics 530 GPU to drive 3 external displays
- via DP, HDMI and DVI on the motherboard (AsRock Extreme4).

at some point, I upgraded the CPU to an Intel 7700K, and I realized that
the computer can not output to 3 displays anymore.

using xrandr -q, I can only see two connections - HDMI and DP, but the
DVI output is not listed, nor can be activated.

Based on this intel's page, HD630 GPU is supposed to support 3 outputs,

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/25672
/graphics-drivers.html

I am wondering if this is a known issue, or if there is a version of the
xorg intel driver that support 3 outputs for HD 630?

my intel driver is provided by xserver-xorg-video-intel-lts-xenial
version 2:2.99.917+git20160325-1ubuntu1~trusty1

thanks, let me know if there is a workaround.

[Bug 1752411] Re: bind9-host, avahi-daemon-check-dns.sh hang forever causes network connections to get stuck

2018-04-17 Thread Trent Lloyd
There is a new bind9 upload to bionic-proposed (9.11.3+dfsg-1ubuntu1)

Tested with this version and 'host' is still hanging. So this fix is
still required.

2018-04-17 Thread Daniel van Vugt
It looks like upstream has a "fix" coming:

https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/commit/2d80fd02e76bbe17dc52072299dda92ab88c99c0

Although that will just stop the crash reports from occurring and not
fix the root cause. That may be all we need for now...

perl is already the newest version (5.26.0-8ubuntu1.1).
You might want to run 'apt --fix-broken install' to correct these.
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
 libperl5.26 : Breaks: libperl5.26:i386 (!= 5.26.0-8ubuntu1) but
5.26.0-8ubuntu1.1 is to be installed
 libperl5.26:i386 : Breaks: libperl5.26 (!= 5.26.0-8ubuntu1.1) but
5.26.0-8ubuntu1 is to be installed
 perl : Depends: libperl5.26 (= 5.26.0-8ubuntu1.1) but 5.26.0-8ubuntu1 is to be
installed
E: Unmet dependencies. Try 'apt --fix-broken install' with no packages (or
specify a solution).

[Bug 1761554] Re: [bionic] Extended characters in GNOME screen keyboard don't get entered

2018-04-17 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
Did some testing on bionic.

It appears to me as if the feature is designed solely for Wayland. Yes,
on Wayland with GTK_IM_MODULE unset it seems to work without issues. On
Wayland with GTK_IM_MODULE=ibus I can reproduce the issues as described
above.

On Xorg the feature works very poorly irrespective of the value of
GTK_IM_MODULE. Basically you can only type the characters you see on the
first instance of the screen keyboard (which depends on the effective
XKB layout). Capitalized letters get typed as small letters, and most
extended characters don't result in anything or some wrong character.

Considering that Xorg will be default in 18.04, would it be worth the
regression risk to stop im-config from setting GTK_IM_MODULE this late
in the cycle in order to fix the feature on Wayland?

[Bug 1764596] Re: vanilla-gnome-desktop dependencies too strict

2018-04-17 Thread Michael Gratton
Hey Tim,

I'd be happy to take a look at it. I haven't done anything with seeds
before, but from having a quick look at the wiki it looks like that seed
is what generates the vanilla-gnome-desktop package - is that right? If
I wanted to try to split up the two packages would I need to produce a
second seed?

[Bug 1754584] Re: zfs system process hung on container stop/delete

2018-04-17 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package zfs-linux - 0.6.5.11-1ubuntu3.3

---
zfs-linux (0.6.5.11-1ubuntu3.3) artful; urgency=medium

  * Fix mmap'd libaio read on non-prefaulted page deadlock (LP: #1754584)
- Revert previous fix as there still is a potential for deadlock
on the prefaulted page(s). Resolve the issue by only taking a
reference on the page when copying it and not the page lock.
The inode range lock protects against concurrent updates via
  zfs_read() and zfs_write().
