[Bug 1767402] Re: hash mismatch or wrong accept-license key trying to install virtualbox-ext-pack 5.2.10

2018-05-07 Thread Wolf Rogner
Are we serious about this?

This bug affects a lot of users (see list on the right and probably thousands
more).
Messing around in packages with hashes is nontrivial, repackaging either.
This is an official repository that should provide solid, proven and stable
packages.

And we want users to fiddle around?

You can't be serious.

HERE IS A MUCH MORE USER-FRIENDLY WORKAROUND:

Go to virtualbox.org
Download Extensions
In VB/Preferences, load the original file
Wait for this package to get fixed properly

[Bug 1769811] [NEW] Livepatch / Help improve images too dark

2018-05-07 Thread Robert Ancell
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
The Livepatch / Help improve images aren't transparent enough to match the
design.

[Test Case]
1. Run initial setup:
$ /usr/lib/gnome-initial-setup/gnome-initial-setup --existing-user
2. Go to the "Livepatch" page

Expected result:
Images are shown with 75% transparency

Observed result:
Images are shown with much less transparency (too dark).

[Regression Potential]
Low, just adjusted alpha value.

[Bug 1769810] [NEW] Featured snaps doesn't align well when part page

2018-05-07 Thread Robert Ancell
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
When there is not a full page of featured apps they don't align to the grid.

[Test Case]
1. Run initial setup:
$ /usr/lib/gnome-initial-setup/gnome-initial-setup --existing-user
2. Go to the "Ready to go" page
3. Scroll to the last page in the featured apps

Expected result:
The last page is aligned the same as the other page(s), even if it doesn't have
a full 15 apps to show.

Observed result:
The apps are spread out.

[Regression Potential]
Solved by adding spacer elements to fill out page. Could cause other bugs.

[Bug 1769808] Re: System installed nvidia driver turned to black screen after upgrading

2018-05-07 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1769808/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1769808] [NEW] System installed nvidia driver turned to black screen after upgrading

2018-05-07 Thread Zhenqing Hu
Public bug reported:

My Ubuntu is the version of 18.04, after system upgrading (I remembered with
Kernel being upgraded), the screen will turn black before login window shows up.
PS: Currently I am only able to login to the system in the terminal instead of
GUI. I don't know how to get related logs. If anyone needs logs for analysis,
please tell me how I can collect the logs. Thanks!

[Bug 1754458] Re: nm-applet symbol not displayed on mate (18.04)

2018-05-07 Thread David Rennie-Waldock
I'm getting the same problem with Telegram and Steam, both packages were
installed in the same way on both systems.
Indicator was visibile prior to upgrade, is not after upgrade, works in a clean
install of bionic.

Even the basic example in
http://candidtim.github.io/appindicator/2014/09/13/ubuntu-appindicator-
step-by-step.html does not work on the upgraded system.

[Bug 1750038] Re: user space process hung in 'D' state waiting for disk io to complete

2018-05-07 Thread Daniel Axtens
** Description changed:

+ == SRU Justification ==
+
+ [Impact]
+ Occasionally an application gets stuck in "D" state on NFS reads/sync and
close system calls. All the subsequent operations on the NFS mounts are stuck
and reboot is required to rectify the situation.
+
+ [Fix]
+ Use GPF_NOIO in some allocations in writeback to avoid a deadlock. This is
upstream in:
+ ae97aa524ef4 ("NFS: Use GFP_NOIO for two allocations in writeback")
+
+ [Testcase]
+ See Test scenario in previous description.
+
+ A test kernel with this patch was tested heavily (>100hrs of test suite)
+ without issue.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+ This changes memory allocation in NFS to use a different policy. This could
potentially affect NFS.
+
+ However, the patch is already in Artful and Bionic without issue.
+
+ The patch does not apply to Trusty.
+
+ == Previous Description ==
+
Using Ubuntu Xenial user reports processes hang in D state waiting for
  disk io.

Ocassionally one of the applications gets into "D" state on NFS
reads/sync and close system calls. based on the kernel backtraces seems
to be stuck in kmalloc allocation during cleanup of dirty NFS pages.

All the subsequent operations on the NFS mounts are stuck and reboot is
  required to rectify the situation.

  [Test scenario]

- 1) Applications running in Docker environment
- 2) Application have cgroup limits --cpu-shares --memory -shm-limit
- 3) python and C++ based applications (torch and caffe)
- 4) Applications read big lmdb files and write results to NFS shares
- 5) use NFS v3 , hard and fscache is enabled
- 6) now swap space is configured
+ 1) Applications running in Docker environment
+ 2) Application have cgroup limits --cpu-shares --memory -shm-limit
+ 3) python and C++ based applications (torch and caffe)
+ 4) Applications read big lmdb files and write results to NFS shares
+ 5) use NFS v3 , hard and fscache is enabled
+ 6) now swap space is configured

This prevents all other I/O activity on that mount to hang.

we are running into this issue more frequently and identified few
  applications causing this problem.

As updated in the description, the problem seems to be happening when
  exercising the stack

  try_to_free_mem_cgroup_pages+0xba/0x1a0

we see this with docker containers with cgroup option --memory
  .

whenever there is a deadlock, we see that the process that is hung has
reached the maximum cgroup limit, multiple times and typically cleans up
dirty data and caches to bring the usage under the limit.

This reclaim path happens many times and finally we hit probably a race
  get into deadlock

[Bug 1765363] Re: prime-select intel is not powering off the nvidia card

2018-05-07 Thread Jan Alexander
I can confirm the same issue on 18.04 using Gigabyte AERO 15x v8 with
Nvidia GTX 1070 MaxQ. The `prime-select intel` method leaves the card
powered on, even though the vgaswitcheroo/switch indicates it's off -
the system power draw is ~ 20W.

After installing bbswitch and turning the card off that way (had to mask
off the nvidia-fallback to prevent manual loading of the nouveau
module), the power draw drops to ~ 10W so the card is indeed powered off
in that case.

There is something broken in nouveau driver for my system as it is
unable to power down the card using the vgaswitcheroo method, when
running with nouveau.runpm=0.

[Bug 1767693] Re: 18.04 GNOME displays at 60fps even if the monitor is set to 144hz

2018-05-07 Thread Rachel
Can confirm this is an issue in ubuntu 18.04. Also affects Ubuntu Budgie
(reported it here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntubudgie/+bug/1767264)
which uses the same window manager as gnome shell (mutter).
Animations/window dragging are locked to 60fps regardless of actual
monitor refresh rate while everything else (glxgears, etc.) works as
expected. This issue doesn't exist in gnome 3.28.1 in other Linux
distributions so is likely the result of some Ubuntu 18.04 specific
patches.

Same symptoms as others: Firefox and terminal windows (at least) get

2018-05-07 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Sounds like a crash is occurring, and we have indeed encountered a few
reports like this.

To proceed with finding out which crash this is, please:

1. Apply the workaround from bug 994921.

2. Reproduce the crash.

3. Look in /var/crash for crash files and run:
   ubuntu-bug /var/crash/YOURFILE.crash

4. Tell us here the ID of the new bug created.

[Bug 1769792] [NEW] Keyboard and Touchpad do not work after suspend/resume

2018-05-07 Thread liberal-animation
Public bug reported:

My laptop is a Toshiba Satellite C850D with updated 18.04 installed.
When resuming from suspend, I have no keyboard and touchpad.
dmesg shows "i8042: Can't reactivate KBD port"

This looks like a recurring problem, and is just like these:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1014240
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1142118

Here's the dmesg output from before and after suspending.
https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/rsFX9Yw7Xh/

This post also talks about this bit failing for a lot of people!
http://lightrush.ndoytchev.com/random-1/i8042quirkoptions

Some of the function keys work, such as changing the screen brightness,
but the key (fn+F5) does not turn the touchpad back on. I have not yet
tried any of the suggested options, as results have been mixed, but I
will.

Would it be possible to make 'area' mode the default if the touchpad

This issue still exists in 18.04 and affects almost everyone i know
using ubuntu 18.04.

The scripts of whatever package should only generate jks keystore
instead of pkcs12.

[Bug 1650944] Re: gnucash finance::quote can't receive stock prices anymore

2018-05-07 Thread Ian Turner
Yahoo deco'd their quotes API last year. The recommendation is to move
to Alphavantage as a source of quotes, which requires an API key.
GnuCash 2.6.20 adds UI support to enter the API key, although there are
workarounds available for the earlier versions that ship with Ubuntu.

[Bug 1767559] Re: Provide libinput 1.10.6 in bionic-updates to fix specific touchpad and keyboard issues

2018-05-07 Thread Daniel van Vugt
We now have version 1.10.6 in cosmic :)

Q: What else do I need to do to get this provided as an SRU to Bionic?
A: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates#Procedure

Although the prerequisite for a bionic SRU has been met (cosmic updated
first), I suggest it might be better engineering practice to let version
1.10.6 cool and mature a little first. We want to see it working in the
wild for a while, and without any side-effects or regressions.

It is worth noting that the Dell XPS13 L322X is from the Sputnik series
of "Developer Edition" laptops from Dell, which are supposed to have
excellent Ubuntu support and came pre-installed with Ubuntu 12.04 when
first released. Every release from 12.04 to 17.10 had perfect out-of-
the-box touchpad support, so this bug is a regression. I realise this is
because of the change away from synaptics as the input driver, but in
terms of user experience presents a serious regression.

[Bug 1762536] Re: double tap on touchpad isn't recognized as double click on ubuntu 18.04 bionic

2018-05-07 Thread Daniel van Vugt
That's correct.

We can, in theory, consider upgrading libinput in 18.04 so long as it's
to a bug fix release only. Not a feature release. So yeah we could
consider 1.10.5/6 for bionic.

Longer term however it will be interesting to see how we handle bug
fixes to bionic's libinput. Especially after the 1.10 series stops
getting point releases.
