[Bug 1771739] [NEW] Dell Latitude E6400 - Hotkeys for Volume Up, Down, Mute does nothing
Public bug reported: The hotkeys for Volume Up, Volume Down and Mute does not work on my Dell Latitude E6400 running Ubuntu Budgie 18.04 LTS (Gnome version 3.28.1). They worked fine in Ubuntu 17.10 that I was running before, but haven't worked since I installed Budgie. If I go into keyboard settings and configure keyboard shortcuts they are detected when pressed, and register as "Audio raise volume", "Audio lower volume" and "Audio mute", but even though correctly configured as keyboard shortcuts they don't seem to work when pressed. I have updated both the OS and all of the applications to the newest available versions, but the problem persists. Thanks. It looks like you have a hybrid system with both Nvidia/Intel GPUs. In case the freezes are caused by something crashing, please also: 1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run: ubuntu-bug /var/crash/YOURFILE.crash and tell us the ID of any new bug created. 2. Check for older crashes send from your system by looking at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where ID is the contents of /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id. If you find any links to crashes that you think are relevant then please share them here. 3. [Bug 1770905] Re: package shim-signed 1.34.9+13-0ubuntu2 failed to install/upgrade: installed shim-signed package post-installation script subprocess was killed by signal (Terminated)
Oh my that's a little crazy. Yes, this is a Dell XPS 13 laptop. I was upgrading from Ubuntu 16.04 (which the laptop came from Dell with) to 18.04, using the normal update process with X running. During the upgrade process, it seemingly hung at the shim-signed point. There was no visible password prompt anywhere. I remember trying to type various things at the console to no avail. Eventually I killed the upgrade, which left things in a little bit of a sad state, and I finished the upgrade from the console, which worked. After fixing everything up with the newly upgraded OS, some time later, I got a prompt to report a system problem. I clicked the button to go ahead and report it, because that seemed like the helpful thing to do. I had no idea it was reporting the problem that happened way back during the original upgrade process. It *was* a real problem, but feel free to discard this bug if there isn't enough data to be useful! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1770905 Title: package shim-signed 1.34.9+13-0ubuntu2 failed to install/upgrade: installed shim-signed package post-installation script subprocess was killed by signal (Terminated) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/shim-signed/+bug/1770905/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1771716] Re: Resuming resets my session
Sounds like you have two bugs. Asking for the password twice is bug 1765261. But it sounds like you also have a crash causing your lost session so... - Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your bug report is missing crash details. In order to debug a crash we will need a crash report. To create one, please follow these steps: 1. If you are not running a future development release of Ubuntu then apply the workaround from bug 994921. 2. If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport. 3. If the crash is in Xorg then uncomment this option from /etc/gdm3/custom.conf: # Additionally lets the X server dump core if it crashes #Enable=true 4. Reboot. 5. Reproduce the crash. 6. Look in /var/crash for crash files and when found, run: ubuntu-bug /var/crash/YOURFILE.crash 7. Add a comment here telling us the ID of the new bug that was created in step 6. Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are unable to process them as file attachments, and doing so is also a security risk for yourself. ** Changed in: xorg-server (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1771716 Title: Resuming resets my session To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/1771716/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1771716] [NEW] Resuming resets my session
Public bug reported: I installed 18.04 from scratch a day after it got released. Twice per day I close the lid of my laptop and open it again after. Usually it immediately asks me for the password and brings me back to what I was doing. But 3 times so far, it took a minute before showing me a logging screen (like if I had not yet a session) asking me to choose my user (there is only one user), then enter my password. It then starts to load... and asks me for my password AGAIN. Then it shows my desktop, but everything I was doing before is gone, no more open windows. When I start Firefox it asks me whether I want to restore my tabs. When I open Byobu it shows my tabs as I left them. [Bug 1771466] Re: Super+D wrongly leaves windows minimized if a new window appears while in "hiding" state
** Description changed: + https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/issues/282 + + --- + Toggling Super+D hides or un-hides all windows so you can access icons on the desktop. But this breaks if a new window appears while the windows are hidden: They become PERMANENTLY hidden, i.e. Super+D does not restore them. They seem to be "minimized" -- you have to individually un-minimize each window to get your session back. This is very annoying, and is common: The only reason for using Super+D is to see something on the desktop; probably you then need to do something with it, i.e. click it. If that action opens a new window, which is almost certain, you're hosed. STEPS TO REPRODUCE: 1. Open a bunch of windows and artfully arrange them. 2. Type Super+D (they all become hidden) 3. Double-click the "Trash" desktop icon and wait for a file browser to open. RESULTS: Once the file-viewer opens, Super+D will not restore the previously-hidden windows. Instead, it seems to forget about them and instead hide the new window (and un-hide it if pressed a second time --before yet another window is opened, of course). - EXPECTED RESULTS: -The state should be well-defined: Either normal or windows-hidden. -Once in the windows-hidden state, Super-D should un-hide the hidden windows e -ven if new windows have been created in the interim. + EXPECTED RESULTS: + The state should be well-defined: Either normal or windows-hidden. + Once in the windows-hidden state, Super-D should un-hide the hidden windows e + ven if new windows have been created in the interim. SUGGESTED FIX: 1. (preferred): On the first Super+D, hide all windows and remember their IDs. On the next Super+D, un-hide just those windows, if they still exist, and do nothing at all with any other windows which might be present (i.e. new ones). Then return to the initial state, where Super+D hides all visible windows. 2. (if the above is too hard to implement): If a new window appears while in the "hiding" state, make the new window immediately become hidden also; only on the second Super+D would the new window become visible along with the old ones. Fortunately each patch is small and mostly independent so testing each affected area of code should not be too onerous. + + [Original Description] mwhudson@ringil:~/src/ssh-import-id$ ssh-import-id gh:mwhudso Username "mwhudso" not found at GitHub API mwhudson@ringil:~/src/ssh-import-id$ ssh-import-id gh:mwhudso | cat - mwhudson@ringil:~/src/ssh-import-id$ + mwhudson@ringil:~/src/ssh-import-id$ What happened? The offending code looks like - if resp.status_code == 404: - print('Username "%s" not found at GitHub API' % ghid) - os._exit(1) + if resp.status_code == 404: + print('Username "%s" not found at GitHub API' % ghid) + os._exit(1) print does not flush by default. When stdout is a terminal you get an implicit flush on newline but when it's a pipe you do not and calling _exit(1) exits the process without flushing the buffers either. Two fixes suggest themselves: 1) add flush=True to the print() calls 2) exiting more conventionally by e.g. calling sys.exit() ** Description changed: [Impact] Invoking ssh-import-id gh:$missing_user in a non-interactive context produces no output. + + I want to change subiquity to invoke ssh-import-id directly and helpful + error messages are important in giving useful feedback to the user. [Bug 1769420] Re: Odd lxqt-config-file-associations for .jpg and .pdf
I am not sure where someone got the impression I had somehow installed Lubuntu, and then installed LXQt packages on top of it ("Taking the LXDE version of Lubuntu and installing LXQt metapackages on it will result in a different experience. Unfortunately, that's not something the Lubuntu team does much heavy testing with...") Both for 17.10 and for 18.04, I installed Lubuntu Next from the "http://cdimages.ubuntu.com/lubuntu-next/daily-live/pending/; site, several days before the official Ubuntu release date (because both times the site stopped "daily"ing about 3-4 days before "release". This cycle, daily stopped on 4/21, and Ubuntu release was 4/26). Pure Lubuntu Next - no Franken-LXQt. By the way = are the first Cosmic Lubuntu dailies the continuation of the Lubuntu Next dailies - naturally to be greatly altered by the time October comes around) ? Thanks, I'll give it a try, although I use adb on the host, maybe I can disable it, if that's what's causing the issue. On 05/16/2018 07:57 PM, Steve Childs wrote: > I just experienced this too.
