[Bug 1746340] Re: Samsung SSD corruption (fsck needed)

2018-06-13 Thread Lucas Zanella
Hello. Thank you for your continued support! I was unable to test the
older kernel yet as I'm using this PC constantly and cannot lose or have
it unusable for too much time, as when the system gets corrupted I have
to spend hours trying to install it again without errors.

Here's the output:

be available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pollinate/4.33-0ubuntu1~14.04.1 in
a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed.Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested and change the tag from
verification-needed-trusty to verification-done-trusty. If it does not
fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the
tag to verification-failed-trusty. In either case, without details of
your testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

[Bug 1776805] Re: Serial port permission denied for non-root user with dialout group privileges

2018-06-13 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1776805/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

"the latest Puppet module puppetlabs-apache" isn't something shipped by
Ubuntu. Can you figure out how to reproduce your problem on Ubuntu
without it? If not, then why do you think the bug is in Ubuntu rather
than in this puppet module?

Please provide exact steps to reproduce on a fresh Bionic VM or
container using an official Ubuntu image. Once done, please change the

Looks like this is being treated as a kernel regression and is being

Ubuntu better.

We'll look into whether it's appropriate to make this change by default
for all users.

> Problem goes away (at least until I run an apt update again

Rather than edit /lib/systemd/system/mysql.service, you should override
behaviour by creating a /etc/systemd/system/mysql.service with the
directives you want to override. This is the provided mechanism to make
changes to your system that won't get overwritten by future updates.

[Bug 1760907] Re: Netbeans 8.1 crash in splash screen

2018-06-13 Thread ais523
Re comment 2, I believe there are two bugs here, but this is the
important one. People are seeing a crash accompanied by a warning about
a Java 9 deprecation, and assuming they're connected, and thus are
reporting the Java 9 deprecation (#1763091). However, the crash occurs
even without the use of Java 9 (this bug), and in an identical way
regardless of which version of Java is used.

It's not clear what the most useful way to track this in the bug tracker
would be. Marking them as duplicates would probably not be technically
correct, but might be most useful for end users (who are likely to see
the two bugs at the same time). At the very least, there should be clear
pointers back and forth.

My understand of the status is that snapd grew its own code for mounting
snaps via fuse, which would make this MIR unnecessary.

[Bug 1760907] Re: Netbeans 8.1 crash in splash screen

2018-06-13 Thread ais523
Upstream bug report:
https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/NETBEANS-756?jql=project%20%3D%20NETBEANS%20AND%20text%20~%20crash

(I can't link this to the Launchpad report the usual way because
Netbeans has changed bug tracker, and Launchpad will only acknowledge
the old tracker's URL.)

Netbeans apparently consider this to not be a bug (!), on the basis that
it expects some of its folders which are currently stored under
/usr/share to be user-writable. Presumably, this is a packaging issue;
if the software is going to assume that directories are user-writable
we're going to have to move them to dotfiles or the like. It would help
to get clarification on exactly which parts of the directory are meant
to be writable; "all of it" would a) be horrible practice and b) make
packaging it very difficult, because a large amount of fixed content is
meant to be stored there.

[Bug 1763091] Re: netbeans fails to start due to java9

2018-06-13 Thread ais523
(By the way, should this bug be marked as a duplicate of #1760907? I
assume most people who are subscribed to this care more about the crash
than the use of a deprecated feature that still works. The crash has
nothing to do with Java 9, though; it can be reproduced even running
NetBeans under Java 8.)

[Bug 1763091] Re: netbeans fails to start due to java9

2018-06-13 Thread ais523
I believe that there are two separate bugs here.

One is the deprecated reflective access. However, that isn't what's
preventing NetBeans from loading; it's only a warning after all.

I think the failure to load is a different bug. That's being discussed
in #1760907.

[Bug 1760907] Re: Netbeans 8.1 crash in splash screen

2018-06-13 Thread ais523
I've been looking into this bug myself (Launchpad's duplicate finder
isn't suggesting this bug as a duplicate target so it's been reported
several times by many people, including me). My findings are summarised
in #1776724.

Unfortunately I don't know what's causing it, but there might be enough
information there to go on.

[Bug 1776812] [NEW] Crash on every server stop

2018-06-13 Thread Con Kolivas
Public bug reported:

I have a recurring problem where kmail fails to finish updating an imap
change after accessing any email with a .ics file attached (calendar
invitation). I can fix this by loading akonadiconsole and clearing the
akonadi cache and restarting the server; however 100% of the time it
crashes when the akonadi server is stopped before it finishes restarting
it. Choosing stop server is enough to elicit the crash.

When run from a console, these are the error messages I get:

[Bug 1776805] [NEW] Serial port permission denied for non-root user with dialout group privileges

2018-06-13 Thread Rob McGillivray
Public bug reported:

lsb_release:
Description:Ubuntu 18.04 LTS
Release:18.04

I write systemd services that launch with root privileges and de-
privilege themselves to a system account (called mxdaemon). These
services require access to the physical serial port (/dev/ttyS0) on the
PC.

Serial port: crw-rw 1 root dialout 4, 64 Jun 13 22:00 /dev/ttyS0

When run as root, the service has no problem communicating via the serial port.
When the service is configured to de-privilege to mxdaemon, I get a permission
denied error when attempting to access /dev/ttyS0.

mxdaemon is a member of both the dialout & tty groups: mxdaemon : mxdaemon
dialout tty
Even after rebooting the PC, I still get permission denied for any user besides
root.

Hours of scouring the Internet suggest that everything is configured
correctly.

Hi,
I'm currently running ubuntu 18.04 with a 4.15 kernel and i can observe very
high cpu usage to the systemd-udevd deamon.

removing the rule :
ATTR{bInterfaceClass}=="03", ATTR{bInterfaceSubClass}=="01",
ATTR{bInterfaceProtocol}=="02", \
  ATTRS{bDeviceClass}=="00", ATTRS{idVendor}=="413c",
ATTRS{bmAttributes}=="e0", \
  RUN+="hid2hci --method=dell --devpath=%p", ENV{HID2HCI_SWITCH}="1"

Solved the high CPU usage eventhough my bluetooth card is not available
anymore (as not in hci mode)

It seems that the command hid2hci creates a bind/unbind loop in udev
that is looping trying to set the device in hci mode. (that what udevadm
monitor seems to show, looping from bind to unbind for the device)

I suspect a0085f2510e8976614ad8f766b209448b385492f introduced a
regression (i have not tried to revert it yet).

Please not that there also seem to be a bug in hid2hci.c from bluez l148 :
if (err == 0) {
err = -1;
errno = EALREADY;
}
Correcting this and recompile bluez desn't solve the issue as cpu usage remains
very high.

Using a 4.13 kernel result in a normal CPU usage, this seems a
regression in 4.14.

Other people seems to have the same issue, here is a bug report related to this
:
https://dev.solus-project.com/T5224

Thanks a lot for your support,

Mathieu Tournier

Hi Robie and others,

Sorry guys, since I reported this bug 2 years ago, I gradually switched
to Debian system and pass/gopass password manager (even deleted lastpass
account). So, currently I don't use neither Ubuntu nor lastpass daily
(not because they are any bad, but due personal preferences). For
testing new package I'll need couple hours of spare time, which I don't
have right now. So, don't wait me, someone else please take an action.

[Bug 1768610] Re: leftover conffile forces GNOME is software rendering

2018-06-13 Thread Treviño
On a 2nd thinking, if that nux-tools reinstall will happen after this
nux SRU landed (and of course assuming that this will be after the
"fixing-package" containing the maintainer script has ran too), since
the content of the config file will mismatch (being deleted), debhelper
will ask to reinstall a new version with the classic:

Configuration file '/etc/X11/Xsession.d/50_check_unity_support'
==> Deleted (by you or by a script) since installation.
==> Package distributor has shipped an updated version.

However, I'm not either a fan of having this around since it's something
the distro caused, not the user.

[Bug 1768610] Re: leftover conffile forces GNOME is software rendering

2018-06-13 Thread Treviño
I've playing with this a bit more to get the fix for the currently
affected users who already upgraded to bionic and removed nux-tools, but
I don't think there's a solution which works if we keep this marked as a
Conffile by dpkg.

In fact, using the various rm_conffile or just removing the file from a
maintainer script in any other package, then if the user will try to
reinstall unity (and then nux-tools), this config file won't be
reinstalled, as it's still there according to dpkg.

If anyone know a solution in how we can manipulate the dpkg status from
a maintainer script, that's the way, otherwise I've no other idea than
going back to the solution I proposed in the last night's MPs of
removing this conffile from nux-tools itself, storing it in /usr and
then symlinking it (with new name) to /etc [1] as mentioned (although
for other scenarios) in maintainers guide. So at that point any
reinstall will just work, and no purge will affect it.

PS: other *ugly* option would be instead to make this other-package
(mesa?) to replace in a maintainer script the content of this file with
the fixed one, but really I don't want to go in that way.

Pavithra: can you please validate and close this bug if below test kernel
works, posted by Canonical.

>
Joseph Salisbury (jsalisbury) wrote on 2018-05-24: #24

I built a test kernel with a revert of 06f7e3d39 and a new backport of
a048a07d7f4. The test kernel can be downloaded from:
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~jsalisbury/lp1773162

Can you test this kernel and see if it resolves this bug?

Note about installing test kernels:
? If the test kernel is prior to 4.15(Bionic) you need to install the
linux-image and linux-image-extra .deb packages.
? If the test kernel is 4.15(Bionic) or newer, you need to install the
linux-modules, linux-modules-extra and linux-image-unsigned .deb packages.

Thanks in advance!
