Re: [Bug 1780510] Re: pulseaudio does not resume playback via built in speakers, despite rebooting ubuntu

2018-07-08 Thread sn0m
Hi

I was playing an mkv file in vlc on my tv screen through a HDMI cable
connected to my laptopt that runs ubuntu 18.04.

Sound was also playing on TV speakers via the HDMI cable as well.

I disconnected the HDMI cable and found out that sound would not reverse
back to laptop built in speakers.

I rebooted the laptop and the problem persisted.

I therefore connected earplugs to it and than I was able to switch back
to built in speakers.

There is a bug with pulseaudio? I think that is causing all this
trouble.

Regards

Koli

2018-07-08 Thread Adam Novak
OK, I've tested this kernel, and it works just fine under Xen, from
what I can tell. The system comes up just fine:

Linux octagon 4.15.0-23-generic #26~lp1777338Commit8eca6add0 SMP Wed
Jun 27 15:50:08 UTC 2018 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

The offending commit must be later.

[Bug 1780709] [NEW] Boot duration is very long

2018-07-08 Thread Philippe Lucidarme
Public bug reported:

When my laptop starts, it took a very long time. I CTRL-F2, and I
discovered the following message:

"a start job is running for snappy daemon"

Boot sequence seems to be stuck up a long time with this deamon.

I'm using Ubuntu 18.04 LTS always up to date.
My laptop is a HP Elitebook 8470p

[Bug 1780707] [NEW] package initramfs-tools 0.130ubuntu3.1 failed to install/upgrade: installed initramfs-tools package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 2

2018-07-08 Thread Montecreasor
Public bug reported:

After installing a fresh install of ubuntu 18.04, the software updater
asked me to update and after saying yes, it reported this error about
initramfs-tools.

Also, another error just appeared which is much worse ... Here is what
the dialog says:

An unhandlable error occured
There seems to be a programming error in aptdaemon, the software that allows
you to install/remove software and to perform other package management related
tasks.

Not that the install was a full erase of a partition and now an update or merge

I have serious doubts it is the same issue.
Even with haveged installed I do not get gdm3 to start as I have stated several
times already.

Please do not mark as a dup of that issue

[Bug 1780677] Re: X session crash after resuming from suspend

2018-07-08 Thread Daniel van Vugt
It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. Please:

1. Apply the workaround from bug 994921.

2. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
 ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
and tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

3. If step 2 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the contents of the /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id file on the
machine. Do you find any links to recent problems on the machine? If so
then please send them to us.

[Bug 1780439] Re: Dual Monitor not detect on VGA

2018-07-08 Thread Daniel van Vugt
According to your Xrandr.txt your machine doesn't have a VGA port. It
only has a built-in LCD, HDMI and/or DisplayPort.

So please explain in more detail what the problem is. Do you mean you
have plugged in a monitor and it's not working? If so then please plug
it in again, run 'xrandr' in a terminal while it's plugged in and send
us the output:

  xrandr > xrandragain.txt

[Bug 1780076] Re: 18.04 login screen is skewed/distorted (incorrect stride)

2018-07-08 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks for the patch, but again that's only a workaround. We would like
to aim for a fix instead, but if it's an uncommon chipset then that may
take a long time...

Please provide a full listing of 'lspci -k' and then we can do the right
thing and log an upstream bug. After that's done it will be fine to just
patch in a workaround.

[Bug 1779905] Re: Missing pulseaudio-module-jack files, cannot load module

2018-07-08 Thread Daniel van Vugt
We can keep this bug ID but you'll need to reword the bug title and
description to encompass the actual problem. The initial problem you
reported is invalid - that was the jack module not working. Because the
jack module wasn't installed.

Please reword the bug title and description however you like, and when
done set the bug status back to 'New'.

[Bug 1696250] Re: Please hide Start Center and Math

2018-07-08 Thread John W. Brown, Jr.
This was not a "bug", but more so a preference. It makes more sense to
have 1 icon that represents the entire suite than separate ones for each
application IMO. Not a fan of the M$ way. This should have been put to
some kind of vote first. Hoping we can reverse this. It's pretty
annoying to have to undo just because Oliver didn't like it. A user can
add as little or as much to their favorites as they like. Dealer's
choice.

If it's just an incomplete fix, I think we should spin that out into
another bug and fix it after this SRU goes through.

[Bug 1718931] Re: No VPN autoconnect

2018-07-08 Thread Nicholas Stommel
Well...it has been quite some time and this bug has received absolutely
*zero* attention from the Gnome Shell Gitlab here
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/issues/123 escalated from the
Gnome Bugzilla tracker after Gnome shell development moved to Gitlab.
The issue is fully present in Ubuntu 18.04 AND in the newer version of
the Gnome shell and NetworkManager in Fedora 28. Before v3.26.X, auto-
connect worked fine through the NetworkManager in the Gnome environment.
I'm afraid to report that months later, absolutely nothing has been done
to address what should be a relatively high-priority bug in the Gnome
Shell. If anyone has the capabilities to reach out farther than I
already have, please do so. This critical bug has been sitting idle with
no attention for months, and persists across newer versions of the Gnome
shell, namely 3.28.X, seemingly independent of distribution.

Title:
After last updated libcurl3 on libcurl4, some apps are
removed.

Status in curl package in Ubuntu:
Confirmed

Bug description:
Hi!

After last updated libcurl3 on libcurl4, system (Kubuntu 18.04
bionic) deleted such applications as:
virtualbox-5.2
opera-stable
slack-desktop
mongodb

I really need these applications, I installed them with
broken
dependencies, but they are deleted after each update. Is it
possible
to make the dependence of the libcurl3 in libcurl4, and not remove
it
altogether from system?

[Bug 1780685] [NEW] gParted uses invalid -Q and -v flags from mkntfs

2018-07-08 Thread Robert Pearson
Public bug reported:

When I use gParted to try and create new ntfs file system it uses the
command: mkntfs -Q -V -F -L 'Win10' '/dev/sdc4' and get Error in
argument: "-Q". I open terminal window and omit the -Q option and place
the name after the -v option ( -v:Win10 ) and change the -F to -f, then
it works.

Those guides had you installing the new version of gimp from a PPA. To
do that, you must first uninstall all packages related to gimp.
Additionally, this is not a valid bug since installations from PPAs are
not officially supported.

I have been using authentication on port 587 with evolution, and
STARTTLS after connecting on Ubuntu 16.04.

I forgot about the bug, since I have a way of handling email.
I think you can close the bug.

[Bug 1668148] Re: Booting installer in EFI mode with existing bios mode hd crashes

2018-07-08 Thread Chris Chambers
I have this problem to and my setup is a bit different and i do not see
a similar setup mentioned here.

My disc is GPT partitioned, UEFI is disabled and i boot/install in BIOS
mode but Ubuntu (Lubuntu) is the only OS installed. That is because off
a BCM4312 wireless chip which i need compile a module for, no binary
available. Short off getting that compiled driver signed i must disable
UEFI and use BIOS mode.

Disc is partitioned; / , swap , /home , no bios-grub or EFI partition.

Four attempts to install 18.04 all failed. Problem as noted above.
Installed 16.04 no problem other than install media does boot as UEFI
and the messages 16.04 installer gives are a bit succinct! but going
back one stage does fix and install works good.

During the 18.04 install attempts NO warning messages received.

Best Wishes Chris

[Bug 1772607] Re: Mesa 18.0.5 stable release

2018-07-08 Thread Anders Kaseorg
Until this is uploaded to bionic, the version in bionic is older than in
xenial (bug 1780680), which is going to interfere with upgrades.
