[Bug 1773532] Re: Sweethome3d 5.7 can't import furniture library

2018-07-09 Thread corrado venturini
Using snap version library import works fine from SH3F file contained in
the ZIP files but if importing from ZIP file I have the message '..
imported' but nothing is really imported.

[Bug 1779827] Re: failure to boot with linux-image-4.15.0-24-generic

2018-07-09 Thread Mark
This still looks like the getrandom() hang described in
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=897572. This was
caused by the fix in the kernel for CVE-2018-1108. Two complementary
fixes have been discussed in the Debian bug neither of which modify the
kernel. The first is a change to the Plymouth package to avoid
fontconfig generating uuids, which reportedly has the added bonus of
speeding up boot compared to pre-CVE-fix times. The second is a change
to randutils in the utils-linux package so they don't block on
getrandom().

There's a link to the updated plymouth package which I tried:

https://packages.debian.org/sid/amd64/plymouth/download

Unfortunately all I got was a black screen, with or without haveged
installed. This is not the getrandom hang. The screen remains black and
no log is displayed. I suspect this is because some modification to the
package or config files is needed for Ubuntu. Or maybe some other
package needed reconfiguring due to the change plymouth. I'm no Ubuntu
expert.

As I stated in comment #48, if these fixes indeed work, when properly
incorporated into Ubuntu, they are preferable to backing out the CVE
fix.

[Bug 1769819] Re: Xorg crashes after system sleep / wakeup

2018-07-09 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks for the link.

It appears your crash occurred in the nvidia graphics driver (version
390):

Xorg (7) /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libgcc_s.so.1+11ba4 → /lib/x86_64-linux-
gnu/libc-2.27.so+165f21 → /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libgcc_s.so.1+12da5 →
/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libgcc_s.so.1+f373 → /lib/x86_64-linux-
gnu/libgcc_s.so.1+10550 → /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libgcc_s.so.1+1138c →
/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc-2.27.so+131168 → /usr/lib/xorg/Xorg+1b88ad →
/usr/lib/xorg/Xorg+1bc649 → /lib/x86_64-linux-
gnu/libpthread-2.27.so+12890 → /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/ld-2.27.so+fe47 →
/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/ld-2.27.so+1770a →
/usr/lib/xorg/modules/libwfb.so+25597 → /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-
gnu/nvidia/xorg/nvidia_drv.so+60a46c → [heap]+d35cb0

That's something which isn't open source but hopefully a future update
from Nvidia will resolve it.

If the cause of the crash is in the open source parts of that stack
trace, we can't tell, unfortunately.

[Bug 1780900] [NEW] dconf settings do not have effect

2018-07-09 Thread Mingun via ubuntu-bugs
Public bug reported:

Always when update-manager is show it window with proposed updates it
launch with collapsed "Technical Details" group. Even when I change
dconf key `apps.update-manager.show-details` to `true` (default will be
`false`) this group anyway appears collapsed.

Maybe is is because wrong dconf keys locations, because "Scheme"
property of key says that key must be `com.update-manager.show-details`,
but in my installation keys in `apps` branch

[Bug 1780897] [NEW] Installation failure on UEFI systems with SecureBoot disabled

2018-07-09 Thread Steven Clarkson
Public bug reported:

Regression caused by
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/+bug/1778848

Steps to reproduce

1) Install ubuntu-18.04-desktop-amd64.iso in a VM using QEMU and OVMF
2) Reboot the VM
3) See GRUB shell instead of GDM

The system can be rescued by running

configfile (hd0,gpt2)/boot/grub/grub.cfg

at the GRUB shell

Installing grub-efi-amd64 in the rescued system then makes it bootable.

Previously grub-efi-amd64-signed depended on grub-efi-amd64, and the system was
bootable immediately after installation.

Additionally, the removal of this dependency has resulted in a very
sparse /etc/default/grub after installation.

I've attached a simple script for installation with QEMU and OVMF.

I suspect that installs are broken on actual hardware with SecureBoot
disabled, but I'm not able to test that right now.

Hi Laurie,
Thanks for the info!

It looks like bug 1768103 has been fixed and
7e04e21afa82ef024416f5413b5bdb66e0505bcd has landed in the bionic-kernel
as well.

So for this one, it's asking for commit 7e04e21af to land in other
kernels?

I think the right thing to do here is to just copy the 'noauto' from

[Bug 1726262] Re: 17.10 - flickering overlay patterns in gnome-terminal

2018-07-09 Thread priv
Also on Ubuntu 18.04 i7-4790 with Intel Integrated Graphic Card.

I think this is not related to graphic card.

If you still want to use transparency from system theme, you can try
following:

1. Uncheck "Use transparency from system theme"
2. "Check Use tranparent background"
3. Re-check "Use transparency from system theme"

And the background will become stable with system theme transparency.

I guess gnome terminal sometimes mistakenly checking the grayed out "Use
transparent background" setting and disabled transparency, thus cause
the flickering.

2018-07-09 Thread Daniel van Vugt
It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. Please:

1. Apply the workaround from bug 994921.

2. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
 ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
and tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

3. If step 2 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the contents of the /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id file on the
machine. Do you find any links to recent problems on the machine? If so
then please send them to us.

[Bug 1780439] Re: Dual Monitor not detect on VGA

2018-07-09 Thread Daniel van Vugt
OK. Something is failing to detect your monitor(s) when plugged in.

Next we need to figure out if it's Xorg's fault or in the
kernel/hardware. To do this please plug the monitor in and then run:

  grep . /sys/class/drm/*/status

And please send us the output.

Please also try some different monitor cables/adapters because it sounds
to me like a bad connection could be the issue.

[Bug 1779476] Re: Ubuntu 18.04: gdm3 does not switch to graphics after update

2018-07-09 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Great. Thanks for figuring that out.

Was there any sign of corruption? Were you able to upgrade gdm3 to the
latest version again?

I wonder - if it happens again then please check:
  1. if your disk/partition is full (run: df -h); or
  2. if the disk has experienced any hardware errors (run the Disks app >
burger menu > SMART Data & Self-Tests...).

If most other people here are experiencing bug 1779827 instead of this
then it is possible this bug was entirely unique to your machine.

[Bug 1780860] Re: Xorg freeze

2018-07-09 Thread Daniel van Vugt
It appears you now have only a GeForce GT 630 installed, using the
nouveau driver.

If you want to report a bug against your Radeon card then please:
 1. Reinstall that radeon card.
 2. Boot the machine and instead of logging in hit Ctrl+Alt+F4. Now log into
the text terminal.
 3. Run this command to send us new system information:
 apport-collect 1780860

[Bug 1760849] Re: Enhancement: Make the login screen follow the mouse to other monitors

2018-07-09 Thread Daniel van Vugt
** Description changed:

+
The Ubuntu login screen is tiled on all displays, not mirrored, making
it nearly impossible to login when using an external monitor if the
  laptop screen is not visible.

There appears to be no available control to alter the display settings
of the login screen. Prior to bionic, the controls followed the mouse
onto different displays so you could login by giving the mouse a swipe
to the right to get the controls to appear.

[Bug 1780885] [NEW] hangs at Building initial module for 4.15.0-23-generic (promptless password prompt)

2018-07-09 Thread Andrew McLeod
Public bug reported:

This bug may more specifically be with dkms, but assume most people will
hit it this way

sudo apt-get update ; sudo apt-get upgrade would hang at:

Building initial module for 4.15.0-23-generic

after a few seconds, keypresses/enter were not being registered, but
there is a secret password prompt - i.e., at this point, when things
appear to have hung, entering your password twice will continue the
process. It may also be related to 'secure boot' but I am unsure.

[Bug 1271946] Re: lightdm-gtk-greeter shows many things of the session locked

2018-07-09 Thread gf
Hello Sergio,
Thank you for submitting this bug and reporting a problem with the
lightdm-gtk-greeter package. You made this bug report in 2014 and there have
been several versions of Ubuntu since then.

Could you confirm that this is no longer a problem and that we can close the
ticket?
If it is still a problem, are you still interested in finding a solution to
this bug?
If you are, could you run the following (only once):
apport-collect 1271946
and upload the updated logs and and any other logs that are relevant for this
particular issue.

Thank you again for helping make Ubuntu better.
G

[Bug 1780867] Re: hostname unchangeable / some daemon changes and resets /etc/hostname

2018-07-09 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1780867/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1672822] Re: sound only coming from left speaker on acer predator (fresh install)

2018-07-09 Thread CleverSageLife
@rotten hdajackretask worked for me. Confirmed.

My Acer Predator 15 G9-593-72VT has:
Card: HDA Intel PCH
Chip: Realtek ALC255

FIXING IT BY SETTING THE PINS AKA JACK RETASKING:

STEP 1: INSTALL THE FOLLOWING SUITE OF APPS:
sudo apt-get install alsa-tools-gui

STEP 2: RUN THIS PARTICULAR APP FROM THE SUITE AT THE TERMINAL:
hdajackretask

STEP 3: CHECK THE FOLLOWING BOX:
show unconnected pins

STEP 4: SET THE PINS AS FOLLOWS:
0x14 to "Internal Speaker" (do NOT check the box for override)
0x17 to "Internal Speaker LFE" (check the box for override)
0x1b to "Internal Speaker (Back)" (check the box for override)

STEP 5: TEST IT
(play a song or stream a video?)

STEP 6: IF THE TEST SUCCEEDS, CLICK BUTTON:
Install Boot Override
(you will need to put in an admin password)

STEP 7: REBOOT
See if the settings stuck after a restart.

At any time, if something goes wonky, restart the computer, and try
again. I found that sometimes the sound quits and freezes while applying
different configs, but a restart resets it back to normal.
