[Bug 1779827] Re: failure to boot with linux-image-4.15.0-24-generic
This still looks like the getrandom() hang described in https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=897572. This was caused by the fix in the kernel for CVE-2018-1108. Two complementary fixes have been discussed in the Debian bug neither of which modify the kernel. The first is a change to the Plymouth package to avoid fontconfig generating uuids, which reportedly has the added bonus of speeding up boot compared to pre-CVE-fix times. The second is a change to randutils in the utils-linux package so they don't block on getrandom(). There's a link to the updated plymouth package which I tried: https://packages.debian.org/sid/amd64/plymouth/download Unfortunately all I got was a black screen, with or without haveged installed. This is not the getrandom hang. The screen remains black and no log is displayed. I suspect this is because some modification to the package or config files is needed for Ubuntu. Or maybe some other package needed reconfiguring due to the change plymouth. I'm no Ubuntu expert. As I stated in comment #48, if these fixes indeed work, when properly incorporated into Ubuntu, they are preferable to backing out the CVE fix. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1779827 Title: failure to boot with linux-image-4.15.0-24-generic To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1779827/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1780897] [NEW] Installation failure on UEFI systems with SecureBoot disabled
Public bug reported: Regression caused by https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/+bug/1778848 Steps to reproduce 1) Install ubuntu-18.04-desktop-amd64.iso in a VM using QEMU and OVMF 2) Reboot the VM 3) See GRUB shell instead of GDM The system can be rescued by running configfile (hd0,gpt2)/boot/grub/grub.cfg at the GRUB shell Installing grub-efi-amd64 in the rescued system then makes it bootable. Previously grub-efi-amd64-signed depended on grub-efi-amd64, and the system was bootable immediately after installation. Additionally, the removal of this dependency has resulted in a very sparse /etc/default/grub after installation. I've attached a simple script for installation with QEMU and OVMF. I suspect that installs are broken on actual hardware with SecureBoot disabled, but I'm not able to test that right now. ** Affects: grub2-signed (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: regression-update ** Attachment added: "test.sh" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1780897/+attachment/5161759/+files/test.sh -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1780897 Title: Installation failure on UEFI systems with SecureBoot disabled To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2-signed/+bug/1780897/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1726262] Re: 17.10 - flickering overlay patterns in gnome-terminal
Also on Ubuntu 18.04 i7-4790 with Intel Integrated Graphic Card. I think this is not related to graphic card. If you still want to use transparency from system theme, you can try following: 1. Uncheck "Use transparency from system theme" 2. "Check Use tranparent background" 3. Re-check "Use transparency from system theme" And the background will become stable with system theme transparency. I guess gnome terminal sometimes mistakenly checking the grayed out "Use transparent background" setting and disabled transparency, thus cause the flickering. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1726262 Title: 17.10 - flickering overlay patterns in gnome-terminal To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-terminal/+bug/1726262/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. Please: 1. Apply the workaround from bug 994921. 2. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run: ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash and tell us the ID of the newly-created bug. 3. If step 2 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where ID is the contents of the /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id file on the machine. [Bug 1780867] Re: hostname unchangeable / some daemon changes and resets /etc/hostname
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode. To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1780867/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package.
