  - netplan: fix mtu if provided by network config for all rendered types

  - read_file_or_url: move to url_helper, fix bug in its FileResponse.
  - ds-identify: recognize container-other as a container, test SmartOS.
  - cloud-config.service: run After snap.seeded.service.
  - SmartOS: fix get_interfaces for nics that do not have addr_assign_type.
  - azure: Add reported ready marker file. [Joshua Chan]
  - FreeBSD: Invoke growfs on ufs filesystems such that it does not prompt.
  - netinfo: fix netdev_pformat when a nic does not have an address
assigned.
  - collect-logs: add -v flag, write to stderr, limit journal to single
boot.
  - IBMCloud: Disable config-drive and nocloud only if IBMCloud is enabled.
  - Add reporting events and log_time around early source of blocking time
--- Addtional changelog delta for Xenial, Artful
  - net: detect unstable network names and trigger a settle if needed
  - DataSourceSmartOS: add locking of serial device. [Mike Gerdts]
  - DataSourceSmartOS: sdc:hostname is ignored [Mike Gerdts]
  - DataSourceSmartOS: list() should always return a list [Mike Gerdts]
  - schema: in validation, raise ImportError if strict but no jsonschema.
  - set_passwords: Add newline to end of sshd config, only restart if
    updated.

[Bug 1781015] Re: Calamares fails in UEFI mode after external command in Lubuntu Cosmic

2018-07-11 Thread sudodus
I can add

- There is a working DVD drive in my Toshiba laptop. But it is empty (no
disk inserted) during these tests.

- This is still tested with the daily iso file dated July 11 2018
(zsynced yesterday).

- I cloned the iso file to a USB pendrive. There is no problem to run it
live in my Toshiba; it works in UEFI mode as well as in BIOS mode. (But
Calamares works only in BIOS mode.)

@Simon,

Is it enough with this feedback? I started Calamares from the desktop
icon and got the following output to an 'error window'.

---
External command failed to finish.
Command [ -d /sys/firmware/efi ] && chroot /tmp/calamares-root-5b8t306g
apt-cdrom add || exit 0 failed to finish in 300 seconds. There was no output
from the command.

[Bug 1781038] Re: KVM guest hash page table failed to allocate contiguous memory (CMA)

2018-07-11 Thread Daniel Axtens
Hi,

This came up in the context of a customer issue. I have asked them if we
can share anonymised data here, and I will pass on any response.

>From my analysis of the code while working the case, it would seem that
you could reproduce this by spinning up and tearing down VMs of varying
memory sizes in order to fragment the CMA. It looks like PCI pass-
through would exacerbate the issue, although I don't believe this was a
factor in this instance.

I wonder if this is fully 'solvable' per se - with memory overcommit it
should be easy to simply run out of CMA space - but it should be
possible to at least print much more helpful information either from the
kernel or from qemu.

Regards,
Daniel

[Bug 1781310] Re: Lubuntu Cosmic can't determine my location

2018-07-11 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1781310/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[Bug 1755106] Re: /org/gnome/settings-daemon/plugins/media-keys/custom-keybindings/ fails to load

2018-07-11 Thread Khurshid Alam
When I run `G_MESSAGES_DEBUG=all unity-settings-daemon --replace` and
try to change/add shortcuts all I get

(unity-settings-daemon:483291): GLib-GIO-CRITICAL **:
g_dbus_proxy_call_internal: assertion 'G_IS_DBUS_PROXY (proxy)' failed

Also it can't grab a key when previous invocation still pending. This
multiple times grab/ungrab simply doesn't work.

I believe it is fixed in g-s-d but u-s-d never updated, still using
legacy_key-grabber code.

[Bug 1781316] Re: change front mic location for more lenovo m7/8/9xx machines

2018-07-11 Thread Hui Wang
** Description changed:

- Steps:
- 1. Install system and log in.
- 2. Navigate to 'System Settings' -> 'Sound' -> 'Output'
- 3. Plug in an external speaker into the front jack
- 4. Navigate to 'System Settings' -> 'Sound' -> 'Input'
- 5. Plug in a microphone into the front jack

- Actual result:
- Sometimes system can not notice that there is a speaker or microphone
plugging in;
- Both 'Input' and 'Output' tabs can not show the new devices;
- Try to play a voice or record a sound failed.
+ BugLink: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1781316

- Expected result:
- Both external speaker and mic should be working normally.
+ Hope it can catch the last SRU of artful kernel and OEM-X kernel, since the
oem
+ project needs them to be merged to OEM-X.
+
+ [Impact]
+ Recently lenovo project received a couple of lenovo machines, they all have
+ two mics on front panel, so all these machines need to apply a fixup,
otherwise
+ one of the mics can't work.
+
+ [Fix]
+ apply a fixup from upstream driver, all these mics can work normally.
+
+ [Test Case]
+ plug mics or headset in front mic jacks, the mic/headset-mic can be detected
+ and can record sound normally.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+ Very low, the changes are specific to lenovo m7/8/9xx machines with the same
+ subsystem id or the same init pin cfg table.

Thank you. This is not an issue with Ubuntu 18 / Gnome 3.

Hello Nio, thanks for the testing!

Could you please replace /etc/calamares/modules/shellprocess.conf with
the attached file before the install so I can see what exactly is wrong
here?

The weird part is, I can't reproduce this.

+ [Fix]
+ Resolved in upstream commit that cleanly cherry-picks back to bionic:
+ 8f8027c5f935 mailbox: PCC: erroneous error message when parsing ACPI PCCT
+
+ [Regression Risk]
+ PCC is a generic ACPI-defined mechanism for the OS and firmware to
communicate. Since the fix does change how the tables are parsed, regression
scenarios could include breakages in PCC clients (things that use this layer to
communicate to firmware). The only Kconfig option I see in bionic's source that
depends on CONFIG_PCC is the CPPC library, which provides ACPI CPU performance
management used by the cppc-cpufreq driver and is used by the scaling
driver/governor for Sandy bridge processors.
+
+ Tested on an Nvidia DGX system. This is an upstream fix, so any
+ regressions will have upstream support.

[Bug 1779793] Re: open VM tools DKMS fails to build mostly due to multiply defined preprocessor symbols [error: implicit declaration of function 'init_timer_deferrable']

2018-07-11 Thread Joe Philipps
Aw, heck, probably not. All I use VirtualBox for is once in a while
tinkering with old Windows installations, like Windows XP and Windows
98. It probably doesn't need this legacy vmxnet module.

The builds went fine with 4.13.0-45-generic and less. I noticed you
were building for 4.4. This was a problem with the DKMS build for
4.15.0-24-generic. I think that's the latest installed for linux-image-
generic-hwe-16.04, where previously it was something in the 4.13 series
(aptitude shows 4.13.0.45.64).

[Bug 1773597] Re: USB flash drive won't mount

2018-07-11 Thread Roy Kimbrell
I booted the Dell Studio XPS machine from a USB drive loaded with Ubuntu
16.04. I inserted multiple USB drives (one holding the OS was already
there) and two others. They mounted within seconds and Nautilus
displayed their contents when the drive was clicked on.

This did not happen in Ubuntu 18.04. A drive would not come up for 4+
minutes. And would not mount multiple USB drives.

HOWEVER, something hinky did happen. When multiple drives were mounted,
the USB mouse would not function. So there is something wrong with the
USB subsystem in that machine.

But, 16.04 definitely worked better than 18.04.

[Bug 1781271] Re: Gnome shell crashing after login

2018-07-11 Thread Daniel van Vugt
It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. Please:

1. Apply the workaround from bug 994921.

2. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
 ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
and tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

3. If step 2 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the contents of the /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id file on the
machine. Do you find any links to recent problems on the machine? If so
then please send them to us.

[Bug 1439084] Re: Install button missing in Extensions menue

2018-07-11 Thread gf
Hello Karl,
Thank you for submitting this bug and reporting a problem with Thunderbird.
You made this bug report in 2015 and there have been several versions of Ubuntu
and Thunderbird since then.

Could you confirm that this is no longer a problem and that we can close the
ticket?
If it is still a problem, are you still interested in finding a solution to
this bug?
If you are, could you run the following (only once):
apport-collect 1439084
and upload the updated logs and and any other logs that are relevant for this
particular issue.

Thank you again for helping make Ubuntu and Thunderbird better.
G

[Bug 1781125] Re: Display drivers are not Avaialble

2018-07-11 Thread Daniel van Vugt
In comment #5 it says "No proprietary drivers are in use".

Please try changing the option in that dialog and back again, then click
"Apply Changes".

After rebooting if the problem is not solved then please run 'apport-
collect 1781125' to send us newer system information.
