[Bug 1770090] Re: byobu-config can't run on Ubuntu 18(python 3)

2018-07-19 Thread  Christian Ehrhardt 
@Lance - hi I just recently fixed such an issue, see bug 1537528
TL;DR it crashes when it was using the screen backend.
Since you have python-newt installed this bug here isn't your issue.
Maybe it is the other I linked (which is on it's way into the release atm).
And if it is neither, then please file a new bug about it sharing some details
on the crash.

[Bug 1767027] Re: Search current folder only in nautilus doesn't work (Ubuntu 18.04)

2018-07-19 Thread Treviño
** Description changed:

+ [ Description ]
+
I upgraded to Ubuntu 18.04 prerelease from Ubuntu 17.10 and am finding
that Nautilus searches all subfolders when I start typing, not just the
present folder, even though I have the "search only current folder"
option selected in its preferences, and "Only searching the current
folder" does appear in the GUI as I am searching. Nonetheless results
appear from subfolders (which I wouldn't mind, but which I turn off due
to its poor performance compared to current-folder-only).
+
+ [ Test case ]
+
+ 1. Start nautilus, form app settings force nautilus to search only in current
folder
+ 2. Search for any content you know is available in a subfolder of the current
one
+ 3. No results should be shown for any of the subfolders
+
+ And also:
+
+ 1. Open gnome-shell activities (hit super)
+ 2. Search for a file you have in a subfolder of your home (not hidden, backup
or anything)
+ 3. The files should be shown on the overview.
+ 4. Hitting nautilus icon in overview, results from any subfolder of your
$HOME should be
+presented.
+
+ [ Regression potential ]
+
+ Searches from gnome-shell activities does not contain all the results.
+ Or normal searches from nautilus might not list results from subfolders.

[Bug 1056978] Re: Resizing windows by grabbing window borders is difficult

2018-07-19 Thread David Beswick
I understand that the compositor can't be used to provide a solution, so
then in my opinion the border size for Xubuntu's default theme should be
increased. Even the "Default" xfce theme (which seems to have 2 or 3
pixel borders) is so much of an improvement. As it stands, use of a
single-pixel border basically forces the use of Alt-Right Click resizing
or menu options and these methods aren't obvious to new users. Rather
than making this basic function more difficult by default, I think that
those who prefer the aesthetic of a single-pixel border should instead
be required to make a change of theme to suit their preference.

[Bug 1773071] Re: Netplan unknown key bridges

2018-07-19 Thread Daniel Axtens
Hi,

I'm trying to triage some old bugs so apologies if this comes out of the
blue.

Line numbers being wrong is a known issue - see LP: #1752956.

>From what you've posted, it looks like your bridges stanza isn't
sufficiently indented - it should be at the same level of indent as
ethernets. Do things work if you line that up?

Daniel

[Bug 1782683] [NEW] amdump reports nonexistent log files due to timezone error

2018-07-19 Thread Eric Towers
Public bug reported:

A run of amdump generated a report (captured in e-Mail) with the NOTES
entry

planner: client0004 sda1 20180720004501 0 "/usr/lib/amanda/runtar exited with
status 1: see /var/log/amanda/client/Weirdhouse/sendsize.20180719194502.debug"

The file /var/log/amanda/client/Weirdhouse/sendsize.20180719194502.debug does
not exist.
The file /var/log/amanda/client/Weirdhouse/sendsize.20180720004502.debug does
exist.

Note that the timestamp of the note is 20180720004501. The timestamps
in the two filenames differ by exactly 5 hours.

Cause: The server Amanda backup user is in the UTC timezone.

backup@server:~$ timedatectl
Local time: Fri 2018-07-20 02:33:32 UTC
Universal time: Fri 2018-07-20 02:33:32 UTC
RTC time: Fri 2018-07-20 02:33:33
   Time zone: Etc/UTC (UTC, +)
 Network time on: yes
NTP synchronized: yes
 RTC in local TZ: no

The client Amanda backup user is in the CDT timezone.

backup@client:~$ timedatectl
Local time: Thu 2018-07-19 21:33:33 CDT
Universal time: Fri 2018-07-20 02:33:33 UTC
RTC time: Fri 2018-07-20 02:33:32
   Time zone: America/Chicago (CDT, -0500)
 Network time on: yes
NTP synchronized: yes
 RTC in local TZ: no

There is a 5 hour difference between the two local times. (The two
timedatectl invocations were hand generated, so the 1 second difference
is user induced.)

Consequence: Amdump uses the local time at the client to determine the
timestamp used in the log file name in the report, but uses the local
time at the server to determine the name of the log file on disk. As a
consequence, the amdump report references nonexistent files.

Follow-on consequence: In a sufficiently busy Amanda environment, with
a little coincidental timing (not so rare, given how *crons work), the
log file referenced in the report can actually be the log file for an
unrelated backup event.

[Bug 1782613] Re: Periodically remove very old thumbnails or cap thumbnail cache size to avoid filling up disk with thumbnails

2018-07-19 Thread Nate Graham
I'm not sure this should be done in kio-extras. As I mentioned in
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=79943, the thumbnails are part of a
cross-desktop spec, so it seems inappropriate for any particular desktop
environment to do the cleanup on its own.

My suggestion is for it do be done in a DE-agnostic manner at the distro
level.

[Bug 1490349] Re: 15:10 and 16.04: bluetoothd "Failed to start discovery: org.bluez.Error.NotReady" after bluetoothd restarted

2018-07-19 Thread Daniel van Vugt
The 100+ just means a lot of people made the same mistake, which is
understandable. See comment #48.

I asked over a year ago for someone to open a new bug if they want to
discuss "Not enough free handles to register service". If it was
important to anyone then I'm sure someone would have done it by now.

[Bug 1782679] [NEW] systemd-resolved can't resolve at all, need to add nameservers to resolve.conf

2018-07-19 Thread Jason Heeris
Public bug reported:

I'm running Ubuntu 18.04 (upgraded from 17.10) on a machine with both
ethernet and wifi interfaces. When I boot, my ethernet connection
enp0s31f6 is brought up by Network Manager and given three nameserver
addresses via DHCP, 10.1.13.10, 10.1.141.10, 10.1.13.36. Running nmcli
shows the three nameservers under "DNS configuration". Running "systemd-
resolve --status" shows them under a "Link 2 (enp0s31f6)" section. I can
do a "ip route get to X" and ping each one successfully. No other
connection is active.

However, when I actually try to resolve a name, even the name of one of
the nameservers, dig claims that "connection timed out: no servers could
be reached".

Note that this name should resolve to 10.1.13.10, the first nameserver.
The "+nocookie" option is there to work around an issue with Windows DNS
servers. But other than that, the servers themselves work fine if I tell
dig where to look:

testuser ☼ dig dcpdc001.orgsdomain.net +nocookie @10.1.13.10

I have configured resolvconf to use dynamic updates. /etc/resolv.conf
points to /run/resolvconf/resolv.conf. This file contains only (non-
comments):

nameserver 127.0.0.53
search orgsdomain

If I add "nameserver 10.1.13.10" to this file manually, suddenly dig can
resolve again (without the @...), and anything else that needs to
resolve names can do so. Removing the nameserver breaks that again.

I don't know much about the servers. They're part of a Windows-based
network, but since I can use them if I edit resolv.conf or give dig the
address, I don't think they're the issue (except in the sense that maybe
they require a feature that systemd-resolved doesn't support?).

I increased the logging level of systemd-resolved to "debug" and
"journalctl -f -u systemd-resolved" shows this during a failed query:

Re: [Bug 1696618] Re: Certain emails are not loaded properly via IMAP+

2018-07-19 Thread Simone Lussardi
Hello,

I have to say it happens very rarely with newer versions, it's much more
stable on my computer. But on another slower computer, it tend to happen
more frequently. I have found a workaround, which is deleting all local
cache of evolution, forcing it to resync the messages.

I can give you a mail account on my server if it helps for testing it
out. Might be the server/client combination problem too.

Thank you,
Cheers,
Simone

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Reviewing your dmesg attachment in this bug report it
seems that there is a problem with your hardware. I recommend
performing a back up and then investigating the situation. Measures you
might take include checking cable connections and using software tools
to investigate the health of your hardware. In the event that is is not
in fact an error with your hardware please set the bug's status back to
New. Thanks and good luck!

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

Dimitri's workaround has worked for me too but the systray msg

Python3 was correctly configured.

Thanks

[Bug 1780501] Re: Traceback calling Vte.Terminal.feed_child()

2018-07-19 Thread Brian Murray
** Description changed:

- I was upgrading from Bionic to Cosmic when I received a conffile prompt
- regarding /etc/update-initramfs/initramfs.conf, I clicked keep and then
- saw this Traceback:
+ [Test Case]
+ 1) Ensure the following packages from -updates (version
0.52.2-1ubuntu1~18.04.1) are installed on an Ubuntu 18.04 system:
gir1.2-vte-2.91 libvte-2.91-0 libvte-2.91-common
+ 2) Modify /etc/issue e.g. I changed 18.04 to 18.04.2
+ 3) Ensure /etc/update-manager/release-upgrades contains "Prompt=normal"
+ 4) Run /usr/lib/ubuntu-release-upgrader/check-new-release-gtk -d
+ 5) When prompted about replacing "the customized configuration file
'/etc/issue'" click Keep
+ 6) Observe a traceback in Vte.Terminal.feed_child()
+
+ After installing the new version of vte2.91 in -proposed you should no
+ longer receive a Traceback when clicking keep during the upgrade
+ process.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+ Per laney: "The regression potential is that I messed up the upload and
everything using feed* breaks."
+
+ It'd probably be good to test guake too since it uses feed_child().

[Bug 1209085] Re: update-smart-drivedb uses old download link

2018-07-19 Thread Brian Murray
Hello Christian, or anyone else affected,

Accepted smartmontools into trusty-proposed. The package will build now
and be available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/smartmontools/6.2+svn3841-1.2ubuntu0.1
in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed.Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested and change the tag from
verification-needed-trusty to verification-done-trusty. If it does not
fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the
tag to verification-failed-trusty. In either case, without details of
your testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

** Changed in: smartmontools (Ubuntu Trusty)
Status: In Progress => Fix Committed

** Tags added: verification-needed verification-needed-trusty
