[Bug 1644498] Re: apt-get update returns "AppStream cache update completed, but some metadata was ignored due to errors." periodically
My system had the following packages upgraded: Upgrade: linux-headers-generic:amd64 (4.4.0.130.136, 4.4.0.131.137), linux-libc-dev:amd64 (4.4.0-130.156, 4.4.0-131.157), linux-image- generic:amd64 (4.4.0.130.136, 4.4.0.131.137), linux-generic:amd64 (4.4.0.130.136, 4.4.0.131.137) After that, there were errors again whenever I did `sudo apt update`. I opened `/var/cache/app-info/xmls/fwupd.xml` as `sudo`, went to line 256 and changed symbol `&` to ``, saved the changes, and ran command `sudo appstreamcli refresh --force`. Thereafter, no errors appeared during `sudo apt update`. W/o running command `sudo appstreamcli refresh --force` the error persisted. Hope this finding will be helpful to others in the same situation. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1644498 Title: apt-get update returns "AppStream cache update completed, but some metadata was ignored due to errors." periodically To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/appstream/+bug/1644498/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1781203] Re: Bonding "parameters" not supported
I agree it is a bug. It is an unfortunate mix of netplan and systemd decisions/features/bugs causing the issue. Do you mind if we mark this as a duplicate of LP: #1781203? It's the same root cause (netplan apply cannot change bond parameters) just with a different presentation (netplan try). [Bug 1781038] Comment bridged from LTC Bugzilla
--- Comment From p...@au1.ibm.com 2018-07-24 00:03 EDT--- There are a couple of points about the CMA and HPT allocations: 1. The HPT is probably getting sized according to the maximum memory of the guest, not the initial amount of memory. Since we haven't been given any specifics about the configuration of the guests, I can't tell whether they are configured with maxmem greater than current/initial memory. If the guests are configured with a very large maxmem, their HPTs will be much larger than the 128MB mentioned in previous comments, and that will obviously make it much more likely to have problems allocating the HPT. (With a sufficiently recent host kernel, guest kernel and QEMU, the HPT can be resized while the guest is running, and in that case, QEMU determines the size of the HPT from the current memory rather than the maximum memory. However, HPT resizing went into the kernel later than 4.4, and I don't believe it has been backported into the Ubuntu version of 4.4, hence the "probably" in the previous paragraph.) 2. The memory in the CMA zone is not locked away in the way that previous comments imply. Memory in the CMA zone is still available for movable allocations, which includes page cache and anonymous pages for user processes, as well as memory for KVM guests. It is not available for kernel allocations (including things like network packet buffers). Thus it is worth while trying a larger kvm_cma_resv_ratio value in situations like this. When fragmentation occurs, the parts of the CMA zone that are too fragmented to use for HPTs can still be used for running user processes and backing KVM guests. 3. Other relevant factors are whether the guest has any real PCI devices passed through to it, and whether the guest is backed with large pages. If the guest has any PCI devices passed through, then when the guest sets up the DDW (dynamic DMA windows) TCE (iommu) table at boot time, that will have the effect of pinning all the guest memory. Some of the guest memory may have been allocated from the CMA zone. Balbir's patch (which is in the Ubuntu 4.4 kernel now) will try to migrate any pages that are in the CMA zone to somewhere else before they get pinned, but if memory is in short supply, it may not succeed in moving the page out of the CMA zone, and also the patch doesn't cope with large (16M) pages, whether THP or explicit large pages. Thus it would be worth disabling THP in the host. I'm not sure whether explicit large pages could ever come from the CMA zone. If the guests were backed by large pages, it would be worth trying without large-page backing. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1781038 Title: KVM guest hash page table failed to allocate contiguous memory (CMA) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-power-systems/+bug/1781038/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1729754] Re: Python3 version of launchpadlib doesn't properly upload binary attachments to Launchpad
I followed the same procedure as in the description, using the same poc.py script. Prereq: - a xenial LXC container with -proposed packages enabled - a bionic LXC container with -proposed packages enabled Steps: 1. Connect to the Xenial container and install the following packages: python-launchpadlib python3-launchpadlib python-wadllib/xenial-proposed python3-wadllib/xenial-proposed 2. Make sure the poc.py is configured to use Python3, then: a. attach a binary file: $ APPORT_STAGING=1 ./poc.py b. attach a text file: $ APPORT_STAGING=1 ./poc.py → In both cases, the file is attached properly. It can then be downloaded and opened without problem. 3. Repeat step 2 using the poc.py in Python2 configuration 4. Repeat steps 1~3 using a Bionic container → In every cases, it worked out well for me. I attached a .tar.xz file, a .jpg file (the one attached to this issue) as well as a .json file, and in every cases I could download and open the file properly. ** Tags removed: verification-needed verification-needed-bionic verification-needed-xenial ** Tags added: verification-done verification-done-bionic verification-done-xenial -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1729754 Title: Python3 version of launchpadlib doesn't properly upload binary attachments to Launchpad To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/wadllib/+bug/1729754/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1783248] [NEW] Update awscli to 1.15.15 from sid
Public bug reported: Please sync awscli 1.15.15-1 from cosmic/sid to bionic-updates. It is an essential cloud management client and when it is left behind we are forced to use pip to install the latest version. Currently it is missing support for Secrets Manager (which 1.15.15 has) and that is causing headaches. As far as I understand, universe packages can have minor feature updates during the lifetime of an LTS distribution and this tool in my opinion needs to be synced periodically with sid to help with cloud deployments. Round 3 with this driver breaking on a kernel update. I found a similar bug that was fixed in this package https://bugzilla.rpmfusion.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4798 (wl-kmod). just an FYI. (I upgraded my main 16.04 LTS to 18.04 [July 6]) so this install was bumped to 18.10 and thus I can no longer do any testing on it. This patch stops cephfs from reusing current->journal for its own internal use, which means that it's valid when ext4 uses it via fscache. [Testcase] A user has been using the following test case: ( cat /proc/fs/fscache/stats > ~/test.log; i=0; while true; do touch small; echo 3 > /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches & md5sum small; let "i++"; if ! (( $i % 1000 )); then echo "Test iteration $i done" >> ~/test.log; cat /proc/fs/fscache/stats >> ~/test.log; fi; done ) > ~/nohup.out 2>&1 (It boils down to "touch file; drop caches; read file") Without the patch, this fails very quickly - usually the first time, always within a few iterations. With the patch, the user ran this loop for over 60 hours without incident. [Regression potential] The change is not trivial, but is limited to cephfs, and has been in mainline since v4.16.
