[Bug 1783455] Re: tlp shouldn't recommend linux-tools
NO. This is not about cpupower. TLP recommends linux-tools on Ubuntu (and linux-cpupower on Debian) for the x86_energy_perf_policy binary, which is needed for some reporting functions (look in tlp-stat and tlp- functions). This is stated quite clearly in the comments at the top of the debian/rules file (line 6 !!). I don't know how things are usually done in Ubuntu, but reporting a (so- called) bug and uploading a (misguided) patched version six minutes later without even notifying the package maintainer or asking for his/her advice (let alone asking for permission...) is clearly not appropriate. I'll be frank, I'm quite upset with the Ubuntu community these days, between the dozens of reports about bugs already fixed long ago, the "bug" wishing for a KDE GUI (a simple Google search would be sufficient to explain the state of things about TLP ans GUIs), and now this. Next time such a thing happen, I'll definitely stop caring about Ubuntu, Launchpad bugs or the merging/syncing state of the package, and focus exclusively on Debian, letting you (you the Ubuntu community as a whole, not you Adam Conrad) manage it on your own. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1783455 Title: tlp shouldn't recommend linux-tools To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/tlp/+bug/1783455/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1783452] Re: Some font glyphs are rendered incorrectly (with additional vertical spacing) in GTK applications
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode. To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1783452/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package. Would it be possible for you to do a kernel bisection? If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug, mentioning the version of the package you tested and change the tag from verification-needed-bionic to verification-done-bionic. If it does not fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-failed-bionic. [Bug 1783455] [NEW] tlp shouldn't recommend linux-tools
Public bug reported: For two reasons, this recommends is too strong: 1) linux-tools is a virtual, provided by many linux-tools packages, and we have no way of knowing which one matches the kernel you have installed. 2) It recommends linux-tools for cpupower (per the Debian recommends of linux-cpupower), but the code in no way references cpupower, not even optionally. Recommends are meant as weak dependencies (you really want this, but we can work around it not being there), not strong Suggests. [Bug 1762952] Re: Alternative shortcut for layout switching Alt+Shift unexpectedly set by default
Re-opening this bug as we had to revert the fix, because it was causing an installer regression: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1783326 That said, I think the "run it sometimes, but not always" fix was probably naive at best. The only two options that seem to make sense for fixing this properly are: 1) Make GNOME stop writing things to that file that console-setup doesn't understand, or 2) Make console-setup understand the things GNOME writes to that file. [Bug 1783453] [NEW] gnome-twitch crashes upon attempting to open any stream
Public bug reported: The Twitch API has changed to disallow loading streams over HTTP. This causes gnome-twitch to crash whenever one tries to open any stream. The issue was tracked on the gnome-twitch github page ( https://github.com/vinszent/gnome-twitch/issues/356 ), a fix was written and merged ( https://github.com/vinszent/gnome-twitch/pull/357 ), and gnome-twitch release 0.4.2 includes the fix. Therefore, to restore the functionality of the package, the repository needs to be updated to 0.4.2, since 0.4.1 has been rendered useless by the API change. Release: Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS gnome-twitch version: 0.4.1-2 Expected behaviour: stream opens and plays after a channel is selected. Actual behaviour: gnome-twitch says that no backend is installed. [Bug 1783452] [NEW] Some font glyphs are rendered incorrectly (with additional vertical spacing) in GTK applications
Public bug reported: After switching from 16.04 to 18.04 I noticed that fonts are now (in 18.04) rendered differently in GTK+ apps. For example, there is a vertical bar charcter `│` [U+2502](https://unicode-table.com/en/2502), that is used extensively to create solid vertical lines using just text characters. You can see it in console apps such as `mc` or `pstree`. While it is rendered correctly in Terminal in both 16.04 and 18.04, when rendered inside GTK apps it has unexpected vertical gap in-between characters on 18.04 (16.04 renders it correctly). The issue can be seen in GTK apps such as gVIM, Geany, GEdit, but Qt apps seem to render it properly. I have attached a screenshot that clearly demonstrates the difference. It shows brand new Ubuntu 16.04 on a left side where you can see vertical line in GEdit is completely solid, as it should be. On a right side it shows Ubuntu 18.04 where you can see line now has gaps that should not be there. I built a small GTK2 test app that reproduces the problem (sources at https://pastebin.com/WCH1ds4P), and using it I found that the problem occurs when libfreetype 2.8+ is used. I tested FreeType 2.6, 2.7, 2.7.1 and all of them work fine. While 2.8 and above has this gap. I am not 100% sure if this is an Ubuntu font configuration issue, or bug in FreeType, or GTK or some other Ubuntu components, but I hope someone at least can point me at the right direction.
