[Bug 1785033] Re: GRUB needs to support 64-bit efi linear frame buffer address

2018-08-15 Thread Ivan Hu
** Description changed:

  [Rationale]
- More firmwares support above 4G mmio configuration and the EFI Graphics
Output Protocol can return a 64-bit linear frame buffer address have been
implemented in some firmware/BIOS. Grub2 currently only pass 32-bit framebuffer
base to kernel. The Linux kernel has already added support to handle 64-bit
linear framebuffer address in the efifb driver now. So GRUB2 should support
64-bit EFI linear frame buffer address.

frame buffer.

frame buffer address,due to Grub passing incorrect(only 32-bit) EFI linear
frame buffer.

  [Test cases]

  Need Bios/Firmware support,
  1) Make sure the machine with the Bios implemented 64-bit EFI linear frame
buffer address. some machine need to enable above 4G mmio on bios setup menu.
  2) Boot up.

  [Solution]
  A patch has been committed and accepted by maintainer

http://git.savannah.gnu.org/cgit/grub.git/commit/?id=886edba8770ccbc3def0af2a7d6b346d00d0af2f
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+ Minimal, it's unlikely completing the whole framebuffer address will affect
those which hasn't used above 32-bits framebuffer address.

[Bug 1784638] Re: Merge latest Open-vm-tools from Debian and check if we can go for 10.3

2018-08-15 Thread  Christian Ehrhardt 
This is the summary mail from VMWare.
It is an install or install/upgrade test with a check of the services having
valid connections to the hosts they are using.
It sounds like only a bit, but I know we had on the initial tests quite some
errors flagged which implied that there are deeper checks on the services.

Quoting:
"Hi Christian,

 open-vm-tools 10.3.0 from -proposed [3] works well in Ubuntu 18.04
destkop, ubuntu-18.04-server-amd64 and ubuntu-18.04-live-server-amd64.

 Check from -proposed [3] in Ubuntu 18.04 destkop:

install  open-vm-tools
install /uninstall open-vm-tools-desktop
tools service and VGAuth service are running when install open-vm-tools
tools service and VGAuth service are running after install and reboot guestOS
uninstall open-vm-tools 10.3.0
 Check from repository deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu
bionic-proposed main restricted multiverse universe

In ubuntu-18.04-server-amd64 and ubuntu-18.04-live-server-amd64:

install / uprade open-vm-tools
tools service and VGAuth service are running when install / upgrade
open-vm-tools
tools service and VGAuth service are running after install and reboot guestOS
uninstall open-vm-tools 10.3.0, tools service and VGAuth service are gone after
uninstall tools
best regards

Yuhua Zou"

That said, the agreed check by VMWare is done, setting verified.
To know sort of an ETA, Łukasz set a longer than 7 day aging time, but I'm not
sure what we want to go for - 14 days then?

[Bug 1783129] Re: Only "main" component enabled after install

2018-08-15 Thread Michael Hudson-Doyle
There are several things I don't understand here.

One of them is what changed after June 10. The sources.list you pasted
was clearly generated by cloud-init, not by livecd-rootfs or subiquity
or curtin or anything else. So for some reason, on June 10, cloud-init
rewrote sources.list either when the ISO booted or when the installed
system booted.

Another thing I don't understand is why this breaks the daily install
test for cosmic only; only main is enabled in bionic too but the tests
pass there. Have some of utah's deps dropped out to universe in cosmic?

A final thing I don't understand is how to fix this. I think we need to
set PREINSTALLED=true during the livefs build's config step, but I don't
know what other consequences this would have.

[Bug 1727356] Re: Login screen never appears on early generation Intel GPUs (Core2 and Atom etc)

2018-08-15 Thread Daniel van Vugt
1. If you have applied the workaround at the top of the bug then you
won't hit it any more.

2. If your system is experiencing a crash in the eglnative (Wayland)
code on startup then it will automatically fall back to using Xorg and
you will never hit this bug.

3. Finally, if you are subscribed to the wrong bug (ie. you don't use a
Core2 or Atom CPU) then your issues was something different and might
have been resolved elsewhere.

[Bug 1785033] Re: GRUB needs to support 64-bit efi linear frame buffer address

2018-08-15 Thread Anthony Wong
** Description changed:

  [Rationale]
- More firmwares support above 4G mmio configureation and the EFI Graphics
Output Protocol can return a 64-bit linear frame buffer address have been
implemented in some firmware/BIOS. Grub2 currently only pass 32-bit framebuffer
base to kernel. The Linux kernel has already added support to handle 64-bit
linear framebuffer address in the efifb driver now. So GRUB2 should support
64-bit EFI linear frame buffer address.

[Bug 1787194] [NEW] On inserting page numbers, instructions are disobeyed

2018-08-15 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

1- In UBUNTU 18.04,inserting page numbers does not work. I selected: insert-
field - more fields, then selected "Page" in the "Type" list under the document
tab, following I selected "next page" in the select list. Then, whatever I
select from the format list I Just get the last selection printed in the field
of page number The last selection was "next page", thus I got these words
printed but no page numbers. I don't receive error messages.
I still have Windows10 , on my lab but I rarely use it. I an stopping windows
update. Meanwhile, I get UBUNTU regular updates and currently my UBUNTU soft
ware is up to date.

2- In printing any document, I must put the printer off first choose
what is to print and click OK then starting the printer. In the
meantime, only one job is printed after all this. Normally the first
clicked job. I have "Printer" and "Printer settings" software. Here also
I don't receive error messages.

Thanks. Next, please reproduce the problem and then in the virtual

[Bug 1786261] Re: strongswan ipsec fails to finish connection (hangs after installing DNS server via resolvconf)

2018-08-15 Thread Erich E. Hoover
I am having a similar problem, but I have some additional tidbits:
1) I had the same issue after upgrading from 17.10 to 18.04, but before
rebooting
2) I have the same problem if I downgrade all the strongswan/charon packages to
5.5.1-4ubuntu2.2
3) First connection attempt after reboot does not always work
4) "sudo service strongswan restart" has some probability that the next
connection attempt will work, but no guarantee

After reproducing the problem, reboot, log into a VT and please:

1. Run:
journalctl -b-1 > previous_boot.log

2. Look in /var/crash for crash files. If you find any then please run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash

@Dean I'm still pretty stumped about this bug. Nothing in the changes
seem very relevant.

Could you attach the files resulting from the following two commands?

$ lsinitramfs -l /boot/initrd.img-4.15.0-31-generic > /tmp/lsinitramfs-31.txt
$ lsinitramfs -l /boot/initrd.img-4.15.0-32-generic > /tmp/lsinitramfs-32.txt

[Bug 1787304] [NEW] HP Bluetooth Printer Pairs but Stays Disconnected

2018-08-15 Thread Free Beachler
Public bug reported:

I have an HP Deskjet 460 with BT module. This printer was working via
Bluetooth in Ubuntu 16.04, but now fails to connect in Ubuntu 18.04.

In Ubuntu 16.04 I was able to use this doc to setup the printer:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BluetoothPrinterSetup.  However, this
doc is now outdated for Ubuntu 18.04 since "hidd" is unavailable.

I've tried the info contained in these links to no avail:
-
https://askubuntu.com/questions/1020257/bluez5-cannot-connect-to-a-paired-bluetooth-device-on-ubuntu-17-10
https://askubuntu.com/questions/1036195/bluetooth-doesnt-work-after-resuming-from-sleep-ubuntu-18-04-lts?rq=1
- https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1748565
-
https://askubuntu.com/questions/1037370/ubuntu-18-04-bluetooth-device-disconnects-right-after-connect-on-lenovo-p50

* I did try to "update bluez to >=5.28.2"
* I did try to "restarting bluetooth service"
* I did not try "removing btusb module"

Further advice in the above links did not help.

In 18.04 I can remove the device using the Settings->Bluetooth UI. Then
the Deskjet 460 S/N XXX appears as "Not Set Up". Then I can double-
click on the device, and it briefly shows "Connected", then
"Disconnected". Now the device is in the Settings->Bluetooth UI, and
when I double click the device it shows "Connection Off", Paired Yes,
Type Printer, and the MAC address. I'm unable to change the "Connection
Off" setting via the UI.

[Bug 1720519] Re: KDE/Kubuntu: Module "module-switch-on-connect" should be loaded once at most. Refusing to load.

2018-08-15 Thread Daniel van Vugt
The error message still exists in the latest (12.2) PulseAudio:

  pa_log("Module \"%s\" should be loaded once at most. Refusing to load.",
name);
  errcode = -PA_ERR_EXIST;
  goto fail;

So if it seems fixed then that probably means the KDE/Kubuntu side got
fixed.

[Bug 1787258] Re: 3.13.0-155.205 Kernel Panic - divide by zero

2018-08-15 Thread Robert C Jennings
@tyhicks, I've tested your kernel from comment #7.

1. Launch 2 VMs in us-west-2 with ami-4218403a (20180722, the serial prior to
the latest)
2. Upgrade the first VM to the kernel in -updates, reboot, and observe the
panic in the console log
3. On the 2nd VM, install the linux-image and linux-headers packages from the
link in comment #7 and reboot SUCCESS
  * Observed "[0.156060] smpboot: x86_max_cores == zero !?!?" in dmesg
  * I rebooted a few times just to satisfy myself.
4. Ensure this VM does panic by removing tyhicks' kernel, upgrading the stock
kernel, and rebooting. VM console shows panic.

[Bug 1780442] Re: Please backport fix for & in attributes

2018-08-15 Thread Robert Ancell
gumbeto - I'd recommend opening a new bug about the issue for clients
with the bad cache. This fix is still useful as it will stop new users
hitting the problem. I've asked on
https://github.com/hughsie/fwupd/issues/565 if upstream has a solution
for that issue.

If you open a new bug please mark this one as verified.

[Bug 1787021] Re: Directory traversal vulnerability

2018-08-15 Thread Steve Beattie
Hi,

I'm going to go with the first debdiff (roughly) so that our
debian2ubuntu tool (http://people.canonical.com/~ubuntu-security/d2u/)
can continue to identify future updates that are easy to incorporate
into the bionic version. I'm also add a bug reference to the changelog.

Thanks.

[Bug 1787299] [NEW] Frequent PCIe bus error on device 8086:a292

2018-08-15 Thread Dan Kegel
Public bug reported:

This is on a fresh Dell 8930 with an i7-8700 (and a gtx1050) running ubuntu
18.04.
Linux rbb-ubu1804-1 4.15.0-32-generic #35-Ubuntu SMP Fri Aug 10 17:58:07 UTC
2018 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
Oddly this only happens on one of the two such boxes I have.

Here's the main warning I'm seeing:

Aug 15 00:08:18 rbb-ubu1804-1 kernel: [24014.113915] pcieport :00:1c.2:

Happens kind of randomly; dmesg shows it happened 13 times in first 9 minutes;
syslog shows it happened 841 times in about 12 hours.

Also see a bit of this:

[Bug 1787297] [NEW] Clock : incorrect date format in FR in Unity panel …bionic.

2018-08-15 Thread Coeur Noir via ubuntu-bugs
Public bug reported:

Hi,

Here is Ubuntu 18.04 with Unity session ( I know… )

System language and regional settings are set to French.

In regional setting the date reads

day number month year hour minute…

which is correct for French.

But the clock in the Unity panel reads

day month number year hour minute…

which looks more English than French order.

Any config file I might edit to make my clock « more French » ?

 Status: New

[Bug 1787191] Re: Crash due to BUG: Bad page map in process X & BUG: Bad rss-counter state X

2018-08-15 Thread Donald Babcock
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1787127 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1787127

I have 4 similar trusty virtual machines 3.13.0-155 running on the same
hyper-v 12r2 host on intel e5s.

Three of the four were rebooted after the 155 kernel without issue (so
far). The four were built from the same base install, however they have
diverged in config for the last ~4 years.

One is exhibiting the described behavior in the op, after reboot
followed by bad maps for various things running (clamd, apache, mysql,
etc). Roll back to disk checkpoint before the reboot (3.13.0-153 running
state) returns the machine to an operational state.

[Bug 1787294] [NEW] ".ico" icon files are shown as random noise

2018-08-15 Thread Damiön la Bagh
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce
Create an .ico file (for using the same icon between multiple platforms)
create a desktop file linking to the ico file.

here is an example of the one that doesn't work

[Desktop Entry]
Type=Application
Version=0.9.4
Name=ChromisPos
Comment=Chromis Point of Sale
Icon=/opt/chromispos/pos.ico
Exec=/opt/chromispos/start.sh
Terminal=false
Path=/opt/chromispos

gnome-shell (possibly dashtodock) displays this icon as a wash of noise.
(see screenshot)

In 16.04 the .ico works fine, and switching to Unity desktop also shows
the .ico just fine.

[Bug 1778011] Re: SRU: PRIME Power Saving mode draws too much power

2018-08-15 Thread Steve Langasek
Bug description says:

> [Regression Potential]
> Low, as hybrid graphics support does not work correctly, and the changes only
> affect
> this use case.

Dropping the nvidia-fallback service means that any time the nvidia
module has failed to be loaded, including if the nvidia module has
failed to build for any reason, the nouveau module will not be loaded in
its place. This is a behavior change that potentially affects users
other than those with hybrid graphics. Is that a concern? How long has
the existing behavior been there, and what are the chances that users
may be inadvertently relying on the current fallback behavior without
knowing it?

[Bug 1787288] Re: gnome-shell window title bar wastes space when maximized

2018-08-15 Thread Damiön la Bagh
See the screenshot
50px have been wasted here!
On my 1280x1024 production screens for my business 50px is an extra line of
text. Two if I use a smaller font.

I noticed that the Opera browser has figured out a way around this and
hides the unnecessary title bar when maximized. Maybe we can learn from
Opera and make this behavior default?

[Bug 1787277] Re: gdm3 freezes then locks out user after upgrade from 16.04 to 18.04

2018-08-15 Thread Seth Arnold
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.
