[Bug 1768230] Re: Long time booting : Failed to connect to lvmetad. Falling back to device scanning.

2018-09-03 Thread Manuel Rösel
I had the same problem after the update from 16.04 to 18.04. I was able
to solve this with RESUME = none and sudo update-initramfs -u.

[Bug 1553669] Re: Annoying "call from" message when connecting Bose devices

2018-09-03 Thread Christopher Berner
I seems that HSP/HFP doesn't work at all on 18.04. I've tried a variety
of different Pulseaudio modules/settings, and also ofono. @vanvugt do
you know if a different issue tracks that?

FWIW the chrome-error://chromewebdata/ thing also occurs with
qutebrowser, another QtWebEngine browser, but it does not go to 100%
usage, though it does fail to load the mail client.

[Bug 1790478] Re: gdm3 in cosmic fails to start fully in autopkgtest

2018-09-03 Thread  Christian Ehrhardt 
...ubuntu7 completed tonight thanks!
I tested 2 times from proposed in the local tester and working as expected now.

Unfortunately the systemd upload itself failed at some of the flaky
(boot and smoke) tests. But it seemed more like the VM it ran in would
be dead.

I retriggered the 4 tests (systemd, iproute2, cryptsetup, dbus)
currently blocked on i386-systemd with appropriate triggers (currently
triggers need: glibc, dbus, systemd).

So in a few hours we know if those now resolve ...

[Bug 1790574] [NEW] pull-lp-source fails due to SSL error - pull-lp-source: Error: Failed to download: [SSL] unknown error (_ssl.c:726)

2018-09-03 Thread Trent Lloyd
Public bug reported:

pull-lp-source fails to download packages on xenial and bionic due to a
non-descript SSL error

lathiat@optane ~$ pull-lp-source percona-toolkit xenial
pull-lp-source: Downloading percona-toolkit version 2.2.16-1
pull-lp-source: Error: Failed to download: [SSL] unknown error (_ssl.c:726)

I have determined the cause for this is python-httplib2 (for python2,
not python3) does not support SNI - which is where the HTTP hostname is
sent to the server during SSL negotiation before the certificate is
sent, so that the remote host can send the correct certificate.

Change request to support SNI on Python 2.7.9+ (xenial has 2.7.11):
https://github.com/httplib2/httplib2/pull/13

Support for this is implemented in newer httplib2 since mid-2016/early
2016 - for some reason this new package version is not in Debian (and by
proxy Ubuntu) - even Bionic.
https://github.com/httplib2/httplib2/blob/master/CHANGELOG

You can reproduce the failure with this test case:
python -c "import httplib2;
httplib2.Http().request('https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+archive/primary/+files/percona-toolkit_2.2.16-1.dsc')"

While this starts on launchpad.net it's actually redirected to
https://launchpadlibrarian.net/225717435/percona-toolkit_2.2.16-1.dsc

You can verify that SNI is the issue in two parts

(1) These two commands, the first sends no SNI and gets no certificate and
fails; the second gets the correct certificate
openssl s_client -connect launchpadlibrarian.net:443
openssl s_client -servername launchpadlibrarian.net -connect
launchpadlibrarian.net:443

(2) It works with the python3 version of httplib2, which has SNI support
python3 -c "import httplib2;
httplib2.Http().request('https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+archive/primary/+files/percona-toolkit_2.2.16-1.dsc')"

It's not entirely clear to me whether backporting the httplib2 fix to
Xenial+Bionic will be reasonable or not.

In theory it could change the behavior of some programs, e.g. it
suddenly starts sending SNI and gets a different certificate/vhost, and
could in theory break some applications even though arguably they were
broken to begin with.

So we may need to consider whether a backported httplib2 patch is
reasonable, whether to somehow patch ubuntu-dev-tools to use some other
library that supports SNI or whether we can get launchpadlibrarian.net
changed not to require SNI

[Bug 1743939] Re: Canon MF8380 Wireless Network Not Printing

2018-09-03 Thread Scott Stehno
I could not run the command you sent. I guess close this bug report as
I have upgraded to 18.04 and installed the newest Canon driver and it is
working. My guess is the Canon driver made the biggest difference, it
might be it works better with the newest cups driver.

I printed two different PDF files and both printed just fine with no all
black pages.

Thank you

I will help if you still wish to test.

[Bug 1743939] Re: Canon MF8380 Wireless Network Not Printing

2018-09-03 Thread Scott Stehno
Yes it was fixed with new driver from Canon. I upgraded to 18.04 and
one cups driver started printing black pages again. I just installed
the new driver from Canon on 18.04 with the all the updates installed
and it not printing black pages on PDF pages now. Not sure if the cups
update or the Canon driver update fixed the problem, just glad it is
working again. I can run any report you would like to get the
information about my system that you would like.

[Bug 1788542] Re: On fresh install of Lubuntu 18.10 clicking adress in featherpad causes 100 percent cpu useage

2018-09-03 Thread Walter Lapchynski
tl;dr it's kind of a freedesktop problem because there are no priorities
for mime-types, but that wouldn't be easy to fix, just like alternatives
aren't (this is a debian only thing).

otherwise, we got two options:
 1. trying to rearrange the order of application installation to make sure the
one we want is installed last (fragile)
 2. adding something to skel to give each user a set mime-type, which will
always overwrite everything no matter what (potentially problematic)

it's possible stracing us might lead us to some other solution. gio
might offer some help, too, as it does mime detection with xdg-mime.

[Bug 1750069] Re: [MIR] xdg-desktop-portal-gtk

2018-09-03 Thread Seth Arnold
I will probably finish this MIR in ~two weeks, I thought I'd share the
notes I've collected so far in case they are useful to anyone:

Some unclean logs:

update-rc.d: warning: start and stop actions are no longer supported; falling
back to defaults
/usr/include/glib-2.0/glib/gmem.h:124:8: warning: mutter_session_proxy may be
used uninitialized in this function [-Wmaybe-uninitialized]
src/remotedesktopdialog.c:148:16: warning: device_type_name may be used
uninitialized in this function [-Wmaybe-uninitialized]
dh_install: Please use dh_missing --list-missing/--fail-missing instead
E: Lintian run failed (policy violation)
Lintian: fail

And some notes on the code:

- image_button_clicked() does image previews
- compose_mail_thunderbird() and compose_mail_evolution() would probably
allow attaching arbitrary files via malicious addresses -- are the
addresses shown specifically to the user to confirm them first? The
thunderbird variant may also allow the same attack via subject and
  body text.

- supports
  file chooser
  app chooser
  print
  screenshot
  notification
  inhibit
  access
  account
  email
  screen cast
  remote desktop

- launch_preview() appears to use unsafe string-based execution with
user-supplied content rather than safe array-based execution.

Thanks

[Bug 1788542] Re: On fresh install of Lubuntu 18.10 clicking adress in featherpad causes 100 percent cpu useage

2018-09-03 Thread Walter Lapchynski
Sun02Sep2018 1515 < wxl:#lxqt-dev> agaida: excuse me if this is the wrong forum
for this, but are you saying that https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1788542 is a
general lxqt bug?
Sun02Sep2018 1516 <+agaida:#lxqt-dev> it's a general problem in application and
mime handling
Sun02Sep2018 1516 < wxl:#lxqt-dev> so a more system-wide problem is what you're
suggesting?
Sun02Sep2018 1516 <+agaida:#lxqt-dev> not limited to LXQt - heck, you can even
notice that in Windows
Sun02Sep2018 1517 < wxl:#lxqt-dev> sgh
Sun02Sep2018 1517 <+agaida:#lxqt-dev> :P
Sun02Sep2018 1517 <+agaida:#lxqt-dev> it's a bit complicated
Sun02Sep2018 1518 <+agaida:#lxqt-dev> some applications provide 'hints' for the
applications they handle
Sun02Sep2018 1518 <+agaida:#lxqt-dev> the last installed application for a
mimetype wins
Sun02Sep2018 1518 < wxl:#lxqt-dev> oh wow jeez
Sun02Sep2018 1519 <+agaida:#lxqt-dev> maybe you remember the funny bug if
audacious handle nodes
Sun02Sep2018 1519 <+agaida:#lxqt-dev> and try to play a directory :D
Sun02Sep2018 1519 < wxl:#lxqt-dev> do you think it
Sun02Sep2018 1520 <+agaida:#lxqt-dev> thats a shortcoming in the freedesktop
definiton for mime-types - one cant provide priorities in desktop files
Sun02Sep2018 1520 < wxl:#lxqt-dev> s something we could do through
default-settings?
Sun02Sep2018 1520 < wxl:#lxqt-dev> or does that run the risk of it being
overwritten by something else?
Sun02Sep2018 1520 <+agaida:#lxqt-dev> erm - dunno, where and in which order the
things are read
Sun02Sep2018 1521 < wxl:#lxqt-dev> alright i'll play with it and see what i can
figure out. thanks for the hints
Sun02Sep2018 1521 <+agaida:#lxqt-dev> strace xdg-open might give a clue
Sun02Sep2018 1521 < wxl:#lxqt-dev> btw has anyone ever filed a bug against
freedesktop to get priorities added?
Sun02Sep2018 1522 <+agaida:#lxqt-dev> and ofcourse - ir there is a mimetype
list in ~/.config - that would help too, no program will override it
Sun02Sep2018 1522 <+agaida:#lxqt-dev> best bet is to talk with tsujan, palinek
or luis about
Sun02Sep2018 1522 < wxl:#lxqt-dev> ok
Sun02Sep2018 1522 < wxl:#lxqt-dev> thanks again
Sun02Sep2018 1523 <+agaida:#lxqt-dev> and i guess there was more than one rant
about - i know this dumbfuck sind 2009 - was some of the first things i
encountered in linux
Sun02Sep2018 1524 < wxl:#lxqt-dev> that's what i feared :)
Sun02Sep2018 1525 <+agaida:#lxqt-dev> if you think about it more - it isn't
easy to solve, best would be a kind of alternatives like for applications - and
even this alternatives system is only in debian and derivatives
Sun02Sep2018 1525 < wxl:#lxqt-dev> yeah
Sun02Sep2018 1526 <+agaida:#lxqt-dev> and nobody really knows it or is able to
create a alternative by hand :D
Sun02Sep2018 1527 <+agaida:#lxqt-dev> nice thing about: if this follows the
normal xdg handling there should be a place inbetween the upstream and user
stage distributions could use
Sun02Sep2018 1528 <+agaida:#lxqt-dev> should be traceble with strace - and
maybe gio documentation too
Sun02Sep2018 1530 -!- Irssi: You are now talking in #lxqt-dev
Sun02Sep2018 1530 < wxl:#lxqt-dev> well i guess that will tell me which
application wins
Sun02Sep2018 1530 < wxl:#lxqt-dev> it will be a whole different story trying to
move the order of installation around
Sun02Sep2018 1530 <+agaida:#lxqt-dev> back to the orignal problem - an example:
feh, lximage-qt, nomacs, gimp and gview can handle png or jpg - which will win
and why
Sun02Sep2018 1531 <+agaida:#lxqt-dev> and thats the point where xdg jumps in:
there will be some kind of lists somewhere
Sun02Sep2018 1532 <+agaida:#lxqt-dev> and these lists will be read in a certain
order - last setting will win
Sun02Sep2018 1532 <+agaida:#lxqt-dev> to make it more fun we don't know in
which order which entry is in which list :D
Sun02Sep2018 1533 <+agaida:#lxqt-dev> so - what could a distibution do to solve
that - right, place an own list after the generated ones
Sun02Sep2018 1534 < wxl:#lxqt-dev> as long as that's easy enough. one of the
problems is i don't think we have a lot of control over the order of events
with our seeds/germinate
Sun02Sep2018 1534 <+agaida:#lxqt-dev> so the last point of failure is the user
- and the user can create mimetype lists with any program what can handle that
- lxqt-file-associations is an example
Sun02Sep2018 1535 <+agaida:#lxqt-dev> beside of this generated things maybe
there is a second or third file that will be searched and read if found after
these lists :D
Sun02Sep2018 1536 <+agaida:#lxqt-dev> so - ultima ratio would be a list placed
in /etc/skel/.config/foo.list
Sun02Sep2018 1536 < wxl:#lxqt-dev> oh thanks for reminding me
Sun02Sep2018 1537 < wxl:#lxqt-dev> i was trying to remember what that darn path
was :)
Sun02Sep2018 1537 <+agaida:#lxqt-dev> if named with the right foo this list
will win
Sun02Sep2018 1537 < wxl:#lxqt-dev> you mean i should aim for last
alphabetically? :)
Sun02Sep2018 1515 < wxl:#lxqt-dev> agaida:

fixed it yet? I am missing Xenial Xerius and regret I've installed

[Bug 1790563] [NEW] Many JsonArray critical warnings on command line

2018-09-03 Thread Robert Ancell
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
Running GNOME Software gives many JsonArray warnings on the command line:
Json-CRITICAL **: json_object_get_array_member: assertion 'node != NULL' failed
Json-CRITICAL **: json_array_get_length: assertion 'array != NULL' failed
This is due to the code not handling there being no plugs defined in the
interface table (which is valid when it is empty).

[Test Case]
1. Run GNOME Software from the command line
$ killall gnome-software
$ gnome-software

Expected result:
No JsonArray critical warnings are show.

Observed result:
Many JsonArray critical warnings are show.

[Regression Potential]
Risk of additional checks breaking expected behaviour.
