[Bug 1788483] Re: gnome-shell crashed with SIGABRT in g_assertion_message() from g_assertion_message_expr("assertion failed: (trap->end_sequence == 0)") from gdk_x11_display_error_trap_pop_internal()

2018-10-01 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Yes, because there is no "blocked" status. "In Progress" includes
waiting for reviews when nothing is really happening. This is normal.

It should be assigned so as to show that someone has done or will do the
work. It's often too hard (or too much effort) to find that information
in the comments section alone. If a bug is left unassigned it may then
get assigned to a second person, unknowing that a first has already done
the work.

[Bug 1788727] Re: upgrade crashing due to unsigned kernels

2018-10-01 Thread Steve Kowalik
I hit this last night, it didn't impact booting, but it did fail the
upgrade, which I had to fix up post-reboot with dpkg --configure -a.
This should not be necessary. The problem is the *running* kernel from
16.04 is unsigned, and that is what the postinst complains about. I
would welcome an SRU to 16.04 adding a signed kernel.

2018-10-01 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Reviewing your dmesg attachment in this bug report it
seems that there is a problem with your hardware. I recommend
performing a back up and then investigating the situation. Measures you
might take include checking cable connections and using software tools
to investigate the health of your hardware. In the event that is is not
in fact an error with your hardware please set the bug's status back to
New.  Thanks and good luck!

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1795545] [NEW] Systemtap incompatible with ubuntu 18.04

2018-10-01 Thread spbike
Public bug reported:

Under 16.04 I ran run:
$ stap nfsd-trace.stp
Mon Oct  1 19:48:05 2018 PDT 10.22.7.20:50434 nfsd.proc4.lookup grep
/export/1/blank/build.2018-08-22/bin/grep

Works great.

Under 18.04 I tried:
# stap nfsd-trace.stp
semantic error: while processing probe
module("nfsd").function("nfsd4_lookup@/build/linux-lZKWha/linux-4.15.0/fs/nfsd/nfs4proc.c:735").call
 from: nfsd.proc4.lookup from: nfsd.proc.lookup from: nfsd.proc.entries from:
nfsd.proc.entries

The kernel being used:
Linux nas-7-0 4.15.0-22-generic #24-Ubuntu SMP Wed May 16 12:15:17 UTC 2018
x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

I thought I might need a newer systemtap, so I installed it from git on Sept
27th 2018. So the same run:
/share/apps/systemtap-2018-09-27# ./bin/stap
./share/systemtap/examples/network/nfsd-trace.stp
semantic error: while processing probe
module("nfsd").function("nfsd4_read@/build/linux-lZKWha/linux-4.15.0/fs/nfsd/nfs4proc.c:744").call
 from: nfsd.proc4.read from: nfsd.proc.read from: nfsd.proc.entries from:
nfsd.proc.entries

Other scripts like iostats.stp work as expected.

So basically from what I can tell the neither the ubuntu provided
systemtap, nor the upstream systemtap works with the widely circulated
nfsd-trace.stp file. It's been available from redhat's documentation as
well as part of the upstream source under examples.

I expected the 18.04 result of "stap nfsd-trace.stp" to be much like the
16.04 result. Showing a log of NFS related I/O, path names, time
stamps, etc.

Other NFS related scripts like nfsd-recent.stp works.

[Bug 1795256] Re: frequent crash of Ubuntu 18.04 with purple dotted screen or black screen error death

2018-10-01 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Looks like the kernel crash is related to networking. If you can please
try disabling wifi and using a wired ethernet connection for testing.
Does that avoid it?

[Bug 1795542] [NEW] Ubuntu Software not returning to last page, even after closed

2018-10-01 Thread Matheus Reich
Public bug reported:

1)Description: Ubuntu Cosmic Cuttlefish (development branch)
Release:18.10

2)gnome-software:
  Instalado: 3.30.0-0ubuntu1
  Candidato: 3.30.0-0ubuntu1
  Tabela de versão:
 *** 3.30.0-0ubuntu1 500
500 http://br.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu cosmic/main amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

3)After the program is closed, and reopened, it should present the home
page, not the last opened page.

4)After installing a .deb package, and closing Ubuntu Software (or GNOME
Software), and opening it again, it stays on the last opened page (the
.deb package install page), and it is not possible to return to the last
page before the installation process using the return (arrow) button on
the top left corner. To return to the main page, it is necessary to kill
Ubuntu Software from System Monitor (gnome-software process), and open
it again. After that it works as it should, but if a new .deb package is
installed via Ubuntu Software, and then we close it after the new
package gets installed, it happens again.

[Bug 1792660] Re: nvme name floated after boot with 4.15.0 kernel

2018-10-01 Thread Guilherme G. Piccoli
Hi Guo, thanks for your tests!

So, to confirm:

a) With Ubuntu kernel 4.15.0-34, using the kernel parameter
"nvme_core.multipath=0", you _don't_ see the issue;

b) With kernel 4.17.0-041700rc1-generic, even using the parameter
"nvme_core.multipath=0", you *can reproduce* the issue.

Right?

I've noticed that the fix patch is present in v4.17-rc4, but I see a "rc1" in
your kernel version - it could explain why even in this 4.17 version you can
reproduce the issue.
I'll build an upstream 4.17 and re-test in my environment, to double-check if
it fixes for me.

Cheers,

Guilherme

[Bug 1795536] [NEW] Cannot open new window

2018-10-01 Thread Fabian Inostroza
Public bug reported:

If I launch evince and then try to open a new window by using the menu in
evince nothing happens.
Also the new window entry is missing in the right click menu of the launcher.

When I try to open a new window from the Evince menu the following
appears in the system log:

[ 3432.193280] audit: type=1400 audit(1537816996.565:31):
apparmor="DENIED" operation="exec" profile="/usr/bin/evince"
name="/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/glib-2.0/gio-launch-desktop" pid=11689
comm="evince" requested_mask="x" denied_mask="x" fsuid=1000 ouid=0

PD: I'm running debian testing, I've reported the issue here
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=909531 but no ack so far. I
noticed that the apparmor profile comes from ubuntu so I tought this migh be a
better place to report.

[Bug 1795464] Re: Intermittent black screen

2018-10-01 Thread Seth Arnold
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Bug 1755858] Re: iscsid autostarts on all servers when it has nothing to do

2018-10-01 Thread Scott Moser
Here is my verification of bionic proposed.
It should be considered in cooperation with open-iscsi dep8 tests
which do a iscsi root boot:
  http://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/packages/o/open-iscsi/bionic/amd64

Below is sufficient for the 'Test Case' section of the SRU Template,
it would be nice to see an actual user of open-iscsi test this.

### Setup
###
Launched a fresh bionic image of 20180927.
Notes:
 * to avoid noise below I have done 'apt-get autoremove' (LP: #1721035)
 * The following is 'connect-abstract-socket.py' which is used below.
   #!/usr/bin/python3
   from socket import socket, AF_UNIX, SOCK_STREAM
   import sys
   socket(AF_UNIX, SOCK_STREAM).connect(('\0' + sys.argv[1]))

[Bug 1794478] Re: Automatic ipv4 not assigned to bond interface is manual ipv6 is assigned to it

2018-10-01 Thread Steve Langasek
This is not reproducible with netplan in an Ubuntu 18.04 container (on
an Ubuntu cosmic host). With the following netplan config:

$ cat /etc/netplan/50-cloud-init.yaml
network:
version: 2
ethernets:
eth0:
dhcp4: false
bridges:
  br0:
  interfaces: [eth0]
  dhcp4: true
  addresses: ["fe81::32a5:bc5f:287f:8db8/64"]
$

The container network comes up with:

$ ip addr show dev br0
2: br0: mtu 1500 qdisc noqueue state UP group
default qlen 1000
link/ether da:af:7e:76:48:8a brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff

   valid_lft 3341sec preferred_lft 3341sec
inet6 fd42:c560:e275:f583:d8af:7eff:fe76:488a/64 scope global dynamic
mngtmpaddr noprefixroute
   valid_lft 3340sec preferred_lft 3340sec

   valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever
inet6 fe80::d8af:7eff:fe76:488a/64 scope link
   valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever
$

As NetworkManager is not the supported network renderer for Ubuntu
Server, please provide a reproducer for this using netplan and systemd-
networkd.

[Bug 1795465] Re: package console-setup-linux 1.178ubuntu2.3 failed to install/upgrade: dpkg-deb --fsys-tarfile subprocess returned error exit status 2

2018-10-01 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error on your system when
trying to install a particular package. Please execute the following
command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal:

sudo apt-get clean

Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your
issue, but the failure could be caused by filesystem or memory
corruption. So please also run a fsck on your filesystem(s) and a
memory test.  Thanks in advance!

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1791010] Re: 128 bit float precision breaks mysql self-tests (stalls cosmic updates)

2018-10-01 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package mysql-5.7 - 5.7.23-2ubuntu1

---
mysql-5.7 (5.7.23-2ubuntu1) cosmic; urgency=medium

  * Merge from Debian.
  * Remaining changes:
- Revert "Build with libmecab-dev" since libmecab-dev is in
  universe.
  * Drop changes:
- debian/patches/disable_float_test.patch: disable test; this is
  fixed in Debian since 5.7.23-2 (LP: #1791010).
  * This reverts the previous direct sync from Debian, which was
missing the above change.

mysql-5.7 (5.7.23-2) unstable; urgency=medium

  [ Robie Basak ]
  * Drop dependency on bsdutils
  * Update Vcs-* URLs to salsa following migration

  [ Lars Tangvald ]
  * d/tests: Disable tests failing on ppc64el
  * d/patches: Fix failing tests on ppc64el

mysql-5.7 (5.7.23-1) unstable; urgency=high (security fixes)

  * Imported upstream version 5.7.23 to fix security issues:
-

- CVE-2018-3071 CVE-2018-3077 CVE-2018-3081
(Closes: #904121)

to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security

cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.

I would offer some support to better analyse the bug. The new log
messages plus debug in racoon do not help much. Maybe dumping network
traffic with wireshark could help, but traffic is encrypted.

so I need some guidance on this.

[Bug 1793028] Re: NetBSD CVE Patch Regression

2018-10-01 Thread rdratlos
Quote from upstream bug report discussion:

 I agree there's something wrong with the code, although I would also
 like to have ways of reproducing this. Working on this bug right now is
 kind of a shot in the dark, and it seems numerous people here have
 worked on PoC or have real world conditions to reproduce those
 issues. It would be nice to share those so we can fix those issues
 properly.

SuSE has also taken the upstream patch including the latest changes. But
exactly the changes from Jan. 2017 introduce the regression. Changes
afterwards seem to be more code clean-up.

Fedora and ArchLinux seem not to apply the patch (yet).
