[Bug 1797304] [NEW] Keyboard backlight sysfs sometimes is missing on Dell laptops
Public bug reported: [Impact] When the keyboard backlight sysfs is missing, userspace does not know the current keyboard backlight brightness. [Fix] There's a loading order race condition, between the dell-smbios and its backends, dell-smbios-{smm,wmi}. Build them as one module can solve the issue. [Bug 1797302] [NEW] ubuntu-bug doesn't provide a way of just getting the URL to report a bug
Public bug reported: I use more than one browser profile, only one of which is logged in to Launchpad. When using ubuntu-bug to report a bug, it will open the page in whichever one happened to be focused last. If this browser profile isn't logged in to Launchpad, it will redirect me to a login page. It is impossible, as far as I can tell, to reconstruct the original URL in order to copy/paste it in to a browser profile which _is_ logged in to Launchpad. It would be good if ubuntu-bug could either display the URL it is opening before it opens it in the UI. (An acceptable workaround for me (as I generally launch ubuntu-bug from a terminal) would be to write the URL to stdout.) [Bug 1797301] [NEW] Keyboard input stops being processed entirely
Public bug reported: >From time-to-time, when using cosmic, my keyboard presses will no longer register. This applies to both the internal laptop keyboard and my external keyboard. I haven't identified any particular trigger of this. The one workaround I have found is to use the mouse (which is still fully functional, along with everything else about my desktop environment except keyboard input) to click the "Show Applications" button; this appeared to free up my keyboard input. (The lock-up has happened multiple times, but it only just occurred to me to attempt that as a work-around; this may not be reliable.) My keyboards did continue to work perfectly fine in a serial console, but switching to/from the console did not unlock input in GNOME Shell. Nor did unplugging and replugging my external keyboard. [Bug 1797032] Re: xubuntu 18.10 daily x86 - suspend, on wake i have no mouse-pointer (nvidia/nouveau)
i booted lubuntu 18.10 (9-Oct-2018 iso); it has `xserver-xorg-video- nouveau` & started suspending (suspend, few secs, wake, look for pointer, repeat) but couldn't recreate. Lubuntu uses xscreensaver so I was using mouse to wake up screensaver - so `killall xscreensaver`then repeated testing. I get an error on wake ("Error occurred starting screensaver. Action 'activate' failed. Ensure you have xscreensaver installed and running") which I hit to bypass. Now I note a 0-2 second delay of mouse-movement before I can see the mouse-pointer drawn on screen, but even the more common 1-2 seconds is minimal compared to xubuntu. Once mouse-pointer appears, it remains visible. This delay was consistent in being slow to appear; usually 1-2 secs but appeared inconsistent in time to appear (user/me inconsistent probably too), though I tried to delay touching mouse to ensure system was ~idle. // just observation whilst `find` executed looking for 18.04 iso's -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1797032 Title: xubuntu 18.10 daily x86 - suspend, on wake i have no mouse-pointer (nvidia/nouveau) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-nouveau/+bug/1797032/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I also verified that fsck was present in /boot/grub/grub.cfg afterwards, before rebooting the server. Surprisingly I was met with the same error message in MOTD when logging in. I then ran tune2fs to see when the last check was performed and this is the output: $ sudo tune2fs -l /dev/xvda1 | grep checked Last checked: Wed Sep 12 16:17:00 2018 I then tried to change mount count to 1 with tune2fs -c 1 /dev/xvda1, but after another reboot I was still met with the same error message and the timestamp for last checked was unchanged. I have the same problem on all the servers that was upgraded from 16.04 to 18.04, but also on a new server installed directly with 18.04. In should be mentioned that the servers are AWS EC2 instances, so I have no way of trying to run fsck from a liveusb. [Bug 1797282] Re: fsck not running at all on reboot
I am having this issue also. fsck is not running on my root drive on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS server edition I have tried fsck.mode=force in grub on the kernel command line to no success. I have set the mount count to 1 with tune2fs -c 1 /dev/sda2 and rebooted and still no fsck. Instead I just get a text message saying you need to do a fsck on /dev/sda2. -- one@localhost:~$ sudo tune2fs -l /dev/sda2 tune2fs 1.44.1 (24-Mar-2018) Filesystem volume name: Last mounted on: / Filesystem UUID: 36589912-c6ab-11e8-93a6-7085c27cfaec Filesystem magic number: 0xEF53 Filesystem revision #:1 (dynamic) Filesystem features: has_journal ext_attr resize_inode dir_index filetype needs_recovery extent 64bit flex_bg sparse_super large_file huge_file dir_nlink extra_isize metadata_csum Filesystem flags: signed_directory_hash Default mount options:user_xattr acl Filesystem state: clean Errors behavior: Continue Filesystem OS type: Linux Inode count: 6160384 Block count: 24641536 Reserved block count: 1232076 Free blocks: 19441110 Free inodes: 5417720 First block: 0 Block size: 4096 Fragment size:4096 Group descriptor size:64 Reserved GDT blocks: 1024 Blocks per group: 32768 Fragments per group: 32768 Inodes per group: 8192 Inode blocks per group: 512 Flex block group size:16 Filesystem created: Tue Oct 2 20:25:28 2018 Last mount time: Tue Oct 9 22:14:49 2018 Last write time: Tue Oct 9 22:13:35 2018 Mount count: 25 Maximum mount count: 1 Last checked: Tue Oct 2 20:25:28 2018 Check interval: 0 () Lifetime writes: 179 GB Reserved blocks uid: 0 (user root) Reserved blocks gid: 0 (group root) First inode: 11 Inode size: 256 Required extra isize: 32 Desired extra isize: 32 Journal inode:8 First orphan inode: 1591485 Default directory hash: half_md4 Directory Hash Seed: 5dcfe344-2b26-4b50-97e1-21952c171d2b Journal backup: inode blocks Checksum type:crc32c Checksum: 0x305a8ddb I am not running on cloud, just a home PC with AMD Ryzen 5 --- Linux localhost 4.15.0-36-generic #39-Ubuntu SMP Mon Sep 24 16:19:09 UTC 2018 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux No LSB modules are available. [Bug 1797282] [NEW] Ubuntu 18.04 Server: fsck not running at all on reboot
Public bug reported: After upgrading some servers from 16.04 to 18.04 I'm met with a MOTD that says: *** /dev/xvda1 should be checked for errors *** I added "fsck.mode=force" to GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT in /etc/default/grub before running 'sudo update-grub'. Another user has reported the same issue here: https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2403368 I'm not quite sure what information is needed, but attached are some basic information about the system. Please let me know if you need any any other outputs or logs. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1797282 Title: Ubuntu 18.04 Server: fsck not running at all on reboot To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1797282/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1797198] Re: [nvidia] After login the screen goes black
It appears the main error here is: (EE) NVIDIA(GPU-0): Failed to acquire modesetting permission. which may related to bug 1795637, but probably not. It sounds like a similar problem but in this case the bug would be in gdm3 instead of plymouth. As a workaround you might want to try disabling KMS and let the Nvidia driver operate natively. To do this, 1. Edit /etc/default/grub and add "nomodeset": GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash nomodeset" 2. sudo update-grub 3. Reboot That does roughly the same thing as the recovery mode workaround. ** Package changed: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) => xorg-server (Ubuntu) ** Also affects: nvidia-graphics-drivers-390 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1797198 Title: [nvidia] After login the screen goes black To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm3/+bug/1797198/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1717486] Re: icons missing after 2 fingers/horizontal scrolling on the dock
I can confirm this bug, and the workaround with gsettings works. I encountered this same bug on two different machines on 18.04, both updated multiple times daily, one with a Logitech mouse + unifying receiver and the other with a standard Apple wired mighty mouse, on both Wayland and Xorg. I think this bug is quite universal, the Logitech mouse machine uses Xorg daily with an HD 5570 and the mighty mouse machine uses Wayland daily with a GTX 760 (nouveau). Since it occurred with a wired mighty mouse (and a dongle wireless USB mouse), I don't think it is specific to bluetooth mice. It also occurs when scrolling horizontally with the scroll "ball" that can scroll in all directions. The same issue also occurs for me when scrolling horizontally or vertically on the popup menu from single-clicking an app with multiple dots/instances, by that I'm referring to the menu with all the instances listed (like gnome-terminal) and that allows one to choose which one to bring to the front. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1717486 Title: icons missing after 2 fingers/horizontal scrolling on the dock To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-dock/+bug/1717486/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1713690] Re: Restore /usr/share/doc/contrib/diff-highlight/diff-highlight
Hi, I can confirm that the version in bionic-proposed (1:2.17.1-1ubuntu0.2) adds back the /usr/share/doc/git/contrib/diff- highlight/diff-highlight to the git package. I am currently working on a security update for git to address CVE-2018-17456, and for bionic the security update will be based off of the version in bionic-proposed.
