[Bug 1784485] Re: [ZenBook S UX391UA, Realtek ALC294, Mic, Internal] No sound at all

2018-11-30 Thread chovy
I've tried everything. Nothing works. I originally booted into windows
once and then installed linux over it. I did not power off I only did a
reboot, some people are saying powering off from windows fixes sound on
linux, which makes me think its some bios setting, but I don't see
anything for sound settings in bios.

I no longer have windows so I can't boot into it.

[Bug 1805920] Re: iPXE ignores vlan 0 traffic

2018-11-30 Thread Andres Rodriguez
I did some digging, and it seems that:

1. Upstream has not accepted a patch from redhat to strip the priority tags [1]
2. RHEL (and consequently centos) are patching ipxe directly [2], [3].

Based on this, I think this patch could potentially be ported into ipxe
in Ubuntu, however, I think there should be some investigation into the
network as to why packets are not stripped on egress.

This seems to be related to the use of "-background none" by the DM. If
I remove "-background none" from the DM code then the corruption is
replaced by a less bad second or two of blackness.

This problem seems to have started when Mesa 18.0.0 was introduced to
Ubuntu 18.04. I can't seem to correlate it with anything else, and can't
relate it to a specific Xorg update.

This sounds like Debian bug #915147 and a workaround/patch is given on
that bug report.

On Debian at least, this only covers read access, and write access is
needed by charon.

[Bug 1806155] [NEW] Dolhpin is (still) using physical device names - and these can change

2018-11-30 Thread Gordon Lack
Public bug reported:

Dolphin is using physical device names to identify locally-attached
devices.

The result of this is that if I boot a system with an external drive
(USB) attached and that happens to be detected first (which happens
every time on my laptop) then the local partitions, which are marked as
"hidden" (as I won't ever want to unmount them) appear under Devices.

The problem is a rsult of entries like this in my .local/share/user-
places.xbel file:

 http://www.kde.org;>
  /org/freedesktop/UDisks2/block_devices/sda7
  true
  true

 http://freedesktop.org;>

That sda7 should be an IdUUID

[Bug 1806154] [NEW] Dolphin can show a removable drive as mounted when it isn't and vice-versa.

2018-11-30 Thread Gordon Lack
Public bug reported:

It's trivial to get Dolphin to show a Removable Device as mounted (a
green icon) after Dolphin has actually unmounted the drive.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Plugin a removable device. This will show up in Dolphin under "Removable
Devices"
2. Click on it to mount it.
3. Open a Terminal on the drive.
4. Right click on the device icon and select "Safely Remove". Because of the
open terminal this will fail.
5. Close the terminal.
6. Right click on the device icon and select "Safely Remove" again. The device
wil lunmount, but Dolphin will continue to show is as mounted (a green icon).

At this point if you close Dolphin and open up another one then click
/right-click+"Safely Remove" will work, but that Dolphin will always
show a red (unmounted) icon for the device.

[Bug 1776616] Re: Ubuntu 18.04 getting stuck at "Starting Reboot" and "Starting Power-Off"

2018-11-30 Thread Guy Rouillier
I couldn't resist a challenge :), so I installed GCC version 5. In the
process of trying to compile a bisected kernel, my file system somehow
got corrupted. I have no idea who the culprit is, as this laptop is
very old. So, it could be a hardware issue, who knows.

But this exercise has convinced me that these Toshiba laptops are just
too outdated for modern Linux versions. I've reformatted my
filesystems, and I'm falling back to 16.04 Mate. I'll stay there as
long as the laptop lasts.

Thanks all for attempting to help. As Kenny Rogers would say, you gotta
know when to fold 'em.

[Bug 1806153] [NEW] ifupdown cannot create VLAN subinterface on an Infiniband-capable port running in Ethernet mode

2018-11-30 Thread Mike Joseph
Public bug reported:

A bug exists in ifupdown which incorrectly identifies Infiniband-capable
interfaces running in Ethernet mode as Infiniband interfaces. This
causes the creation of VLANs to fail with an error such as:

/bin/sh: 1: cannot create /sys/class/net/eth0/create_child: Permission
denied

The defect appears to be fixed upstream in Debian:

https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=857976

However, it doesn't look like Ubuntu 18.04 includes the fix, as the
version of ifupdown is 0.8.17ubuntu1.1, while upstream fixed it 0.8.27.
By shipping 18.04 without this fix, all users of such NICs (such as
Mellanox ConnectX-3 series) are unable to create VLANs with ifupdown.
Therefore, I request that this fix be implemented as a bugfix in 18.04.

[Bug 1806150] [NEW] 'Flat' mouse accceleration profile resets / doesn't apply on login

2018-11-30 Thread Nicholas Cheng
Public bug reported:

Setting the mouse acceleration profile to 'flat' works for the duration
of the login.

Mouse acceleration seems to be reset to 'default' after logging into a
new session, even though the "org.gnome.desktop.peripherals.mouse accel-
profile" key is set to 'flat'.

Setting "org.gnome.desktop.peripherals.mouse accel-profile" to 'flat'
again results in the correct acceleration movement.

[Bug 1799467] Re: [19.04 FEAT| Enable virtio-gpu for s390x

2018-11-30 Thread Joseph Salisbury
I built a disco test kernel with the requested config options enabled.

The test kernel can be downloaded from:
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~jsalisbury/lp1799467

Can you test this kernel and see if it resolves this bug?

Note about installing test kernels:
• If the test kernel is prior to 4.15(Bionic) you need to install the
linux-image and linux-image-extra .deb packages.
• If the test kernel is 4.15(Bionic) or newer, you need to install the
linux-modules, linux-modules-extra and linux-image-unsigned .deb packages.

Thanks in advance!

2018-11-30 Thread nurbawono
it's also buggy in Ubuntu Ubuntu 16.04.5 LTS. I solve with remove or
modifying name of grub-pc.postinst to grub-pc.postinst.buggy. But
sometimes if you update your ubuntu, the grub-pc.postinst is back to
/var/lib/dpkg/info, and you're getting same error.

Scott, thank you for providing the script, and the analysis that led to
it. I've run into this issue numerous times but have not been able to
suss out exactly what leads to it such that it can be reproduced.

I've linked a relevant Debian bug, which appears to address the same
issue, and was filed more recently.

[Bug 1728012] Re: Many 3rd party scanner drivers are broken by a sane change

2018-11-30 Thread Chris Rainey
All that was needed for my Brother DCP-L2550DW was to 'apt purge' the
manually installed drivers:

$ sudo apt --auto-remove purge brscan4 dcpl2550dwpdrv

Then *BE SURE* to use the Brother installer script:
linux-brprinter-installer-2.2.1-1.gz

(or whatever your current version is from the support.brother.com
website, etc.)

Follow the instructions from the Brother download site and during the
script installation to-the-letter(EXACTLY)!

*** CAVEAT: use the printer I.P. addy if on a LAN and _NOT_ the auto-
detected mDNS addy if you have an AT Fiber residential gateway such as
mine(BGW210-700) which has a ".local" domain hard-coded in the DNS. This
effectively kills mDNS(Avahi) broadcasts and so I'm not able to connect
to the printer using that system.

[Bug 1702793] Re: Full backport SRU for unattended-upgrades

2018-11-30 Thread Brian Murray
** Description changed:

  [Impact]

  * I would like to propose a one-off full backport of unattended-upgrades
1.2ubuntu1 to Bionic, Artful, Xenial and possibly Trusty releases because
selectively backporting fixes for crashes and for issues that made u-u
unreliable would be more risky thanks to the huge number of fixes and the
  inter-dependencies between them.

  [Test Case]

  * Since this backport involves fixing several bugs and this bug itself
covers the full backport I suggest that this bug should be considered
verified when the following list of bugs are verified:

  - TODO add most important bugs
+ LP: #1615381 : apt-get autoremove may remove current kernel

and the following tests are passing:
   - TODO add tests not covered by bugs above

All LP bugs fixed by the backport, comments are welcome:

  [Regression Potential]

- * Due to this update covering the full backport unattended-upgrades can
regress in any imaginable way including failing to install, upgrade, run, or
removing essential packages from the system. Those are unlikely.
- * There are open bugs about u-u being slower than in the past, thus this may
be a likely regression but IMO the pending speed optimizations should not be
blocking the backport because the reliability issues are more important to fix
and speed optimizations can be cherry-picked later.

  [Other Info]

I asked for an exception for the package in following the SRU process:
  https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-release/2018-May/004479.html

I'm preparing the backport in ppa:rbalint/scratch and also run
autopkgtests on it in addition to testing it manually in VMs.

  [Original Bug Text]

Changes to support day-of-week patching and logging to syslog were added
to upstream (https://github.com/mvo5/unattended-upgrades) over a year
ago. These changes are not present in the latest Xenial nor Trusty
packages (0.90 and 0.82.1) - requesting that these changes be pulled
  from upstream.

[Bug 1343099]

2018-11-30 Thread Alexxcons-x
Sorry for the late reply !

For Other-App to thunar drag & drop problems there are already some open
issues.

For thunar to thunar, I did not see any so far.
Could you, if possible, tar the folder for which the problem exists, so that we
possibly can reproduce the scenario ?

Which Thunar-View did you use ?

Confirmed same issue exists in Cosmic. Reported to upstream
(https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/issues/831)

We don’t intend to deviate from Canonical’s defaults for OEM projects
unless necessary, but want to make sure that all issues are resolved
when the defaults "are" Wayland.

[Bug 1802677] Re: Unmet Dependencies: gnome-settings-daemon

2018-11-30 Thread Jason Trupp
Found the following two entries had been added to /etc/apt/sources.list
following automatic updates.
deb [trusted=yes] http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian experimental main
deb [trusted=yes] http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian sid main

Commented them out and performed apt update. Then purged the following packages:
apt purge gnome-settings-daemon gdm3 gnome-control-center gnome-initial-setup
gnome-power-manager gnome-shell uatter ubuntu-desktop ubuntu-session

This removed these packages, then reinstalled all pre-existing packages.

Reboot returned system to normal functionality.

[Bug 1806133] [NEW] OVF does not read user-data if vmware IMC is used.

2018-11-30 Thread Scott Moser
Public bug reported:

As currently implemented, cloud-init will read either OVF CDrom *or* the
vmware IMC data.

That means if user-data is provided in the OVF environment file then it
will not be consumed at all by cloud-init.

It seems we need to either:
a.) support reading and merging these two sources of information
b.) provide some way to feed user-data through the IMC path separately.

Secure dnsmasq process against external abuse

Currently any dhcp agent instance will work as an open resolver. For
deployments using publicly routed addresses for tenant networks, this
allows the agent being abused in dDoS attacks, see [1].

By setting the `--local-service` option dnsmasq will filter DNS queries
and reply only to queries from directly attached networks.

[Bug 1805426] Re: Not able to log in into Google Account, aswell as Microsoft account

2018-11-30 Thread Matheus Reich
Ok, i've found that problem I was having had to do with IPv6
connectivity. Usually I disable the IPv6 connection because there are
certain PPAs (archive.ubuntu.com, for example) that for some odd reason,
never load, and they timeout on "sudo apt update". My network provider
has no problem with the IPv6 service, but Ubuntu, usually, cannot load a
PPA through IPv6. Because of that, I only allow IPv4 connectivity to be
active, and that was the issue. It seems that g-i-s and g-c-c only want
to connect via IPv6, even though it was disabled through the g-c-c. I
think that both should first check on how the network is setup up and
then load the webpages as determined by the settings. That is the issue.
I hope it gets fixed.

After I set IPv6 method to "Auto", both g-i-s and g-c-c loaded all log-
in pages without a problem.

[Bug 1805039] Re: Simple Scan seg-faults when scnanning on "Photo"(24-bit) quality.

2018-11-30 Thread Chris Rainey
***

SOLVED !!

***

All that was needed was to 'apt purge' the manually installed drivers:

$ sudo apt --auto-remove purge brscan4 dcpl2550dwpdrv

This
effectively kills mDNS(Avahi) broadcasts and so I'm not able to connect
to the printer using that system.

i.e.:

CUPS Connection:lpd://192.168.1.220/BINARY_P1

in my case.

Good Luck !!

[Bug 1702793] Re: Full backport SRU for unattended-upgrades

2018-11-30 Thread Balint Reczey
** Description changed:

  [Impact]

  * I would like to propose a one-off full backport of unattended-upgrades
1.2ubuntu1 to Bionic, Artful, Xenial and possibly Trusty releases because
selectively backporting fixes for crashes and for issues that made u-u
unreliable would be more risky thanks to the huge number of fixes and the
  inter-dependencies between them.

  [Regression Potential]

  * Due to this update covering the full backport unattended-upgrades can
regress in any imaginable way including failing to install, upgrade, run, or
removing essential packages from the system. Those are unlikely.
  * There are open bugs about u-u being slower than in the past, thus this may
be a likely regression but IMO the pending speed optimizations should not be
blocking the backport because the reliability issues are more important to fix
and speed optimizations can be cherry-picked later.

  [Other Info]

I asked for an exception for the package in following the SRU process:
  https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-release/2018-May/004479.html

I'm preparing the backport in ppa:rbalint/scratch and also run
autopkgtests on it in addition to testing it manually in VMs.

  [Original Bug Text]

Changes to support day-of-week patching and logging to syslog were added
to upstream (https://github.com/mvo5/unattended-upgrades) over a year
ago. These changes are not present in the latest Xenial nor Trusty
packages (0.90 and 0.82.1) - requesting that these changes be pulled
  from upstream.

[Bug 1698159] Re: linux-cloud-tools version specific packages are being removed by unattended-upgrade's Remove-Unused-Dependencies

2018-11-30 Thread Balint Reczey
** Description changed:

  [Impact]
When running kernel version 4.4.0-78 (for example) and the unattended-upgrade
packages installs a new kernel 4.4.0-79 (for example) the
linux-cloud-tools-4.4.0-78 and linux-cloud-tools-4.4.0-78-generic packages are
removed by the Remove-Unused-Dependencies rule, because unlike "normal" kernel
packages they are not excluded by /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/01autoremove-kernels.

The linux-cloud-tools package has the hyper-v integration services
daemons in it, so it's deletion leaves some of the integration not
  working.

Could /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/01autoremove-kernels be updated so other
hyper-v users aren't caught out by this?

  Thanks,

  Ian.

[Bug 1803476] Re: After reboot, snap-confine has elevated permissions and is not confined but should be

2018-11-30 Thread Zygmunt Krynicki
It looks like your apparmor service is disabled.

Can you run "systemctl enable --now apparmor.service", this should fix
your system. You should be able to reboot and have applications working
normally.

Perhaps snapd should monitor the state of essential services like that
and use the warning framework to warn the user about things being
incorrect.
