Made a workaround by downloading curl3 and passing it manually to anything that
needs it. (Replace the original with a shell script that calls this.)

[Bug 1808183] Re: ASPEED server console output extremely slow after upgrade to 18.04

2018-12-15 Thread Kai-Heng Feng
Seems like this commit fixes the issue:
commit 5478ad10e7850ce3d8b7056db05ddfa3c9ddad9a
Author: Thomas Zimmermann
Date: Thu Nov 15 11:42:16 2018 +0100

drm/ast: Remove existing framebuffers before loading driver

If vesafb attaches to the AST device, it configures the framebuffer memory
for uncached access by default. When ast.ko later tries to attach itself to
the device, it wants to use write-combining on the framebuffer memory, but
vesefb's existing configuration for uncached access takes precedence. This
results in reduced performance.

Removing the framebuffer's configuration before loding the AST driver fixes
the problem. Other DRM drivers already contain equivalent code.

[Bug 1766945] Re: (EFI on top of legacy install) choosing "replace" or "resize" options in partitioning may lead to an install failure

2018-12-15 Thread Yuv
TLDR: the Xubuntu 18.04.1 installer does not recognize an NTFS EFI
partition. Then the process takes it course and fails.

Longer story. I recently staged two dual boot machines from scratch.
The only difference between them was the EFI partition.

Case 1:
* Laptop came with Windows 10 pre-installed
* Resized Windows partition
* Booted with USB. Xubuntu installer offered choice of installing along
existing Windows system and everything worked like a charm. KUDOS TO THE
DEVELOPERS OF THE XUBUNTU INSTALLER.

Case 2:
* Restaged desktop that had a Windows 10 digital license on blank SSD
* Resized Windows partition
* Booted with USB. Xubuntu installer did not offer choice of installing along
existing Windows system
* STOPPED. Compared the two cases and found the difference: the fresh Windows
10 install (using 1809 media) set the desktop up with an NTFS EFI partition (at
least so says gparted).
* Rebooted with USB. In Xubuntu installer chose "Something else", selected the
free space on the disk to create a new partition and let the installer go
* The installer failed when trying to install grub-efi

I will still make some attempts at fixing this, and will post here if I

[Bug 1808379] Re: Apache won't start, in version 2.4.10 (trusty-backports) update

2018-12-15 Thread nilandenterprise
I was not able to downgrade (force version) in synaptic apache2, though
selected it did nothing. So I had to remove:
apache2
apache2-mpm-prefork
libapache2-mod-php5
virtualmin-lamp-stack

I could not reinstall as I got these errors:
apache2:
  Depends: apache2-bin (=2.4.7-1ubuntu4.20) but 2.4.10-1ubuntu1.1~ubuntu14.04.2
is to be installed
  Depends: apache2-data (=2.4.7-1ubuntu4.20) but
2.4.10-1ubuntu1.1~ubuntu14.04.2 is to be installed
downgrade (force version)

I was able to downgrade (force version), apache2-bin, and apache2-data. Then I
was able to reinstall, apache2, apache2-mpm-prefork, libapache2-mod-php5,
virtualmin-lamp-stack.
Apache2 started right up after undoing the previous dpkg config done by the
backport Apache2 2.4.10-1ubuntu1.1~ubuntu14.04.2 version during the reinstall.

[Bug 1808658] Re: gdm3 crashes after (and sometimes before) login with nvidia-driver-390 and a gtx 970m

2018-12-15 Thread Jeremy Carter
** Description changed:

+ After entering username and password, gnome3 never loads, and instead
+ you are stuck on a blank screen. Switching tty doesn't work. Sometimes
+ gdm3 doesn't even load and the blank screen happens before you can try
+ to log in. Without a workaround, you are forced to boot into recovery
+ mode and purge nvidia, reverting back to nouveau.
+
At first glance, this seems similar to this bug:
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-
  drivers-390/+bug/1752053/+index?comments=all

However, none of the solutions listed there work and the workaround is to use
lightdm instead of gdm3:
  sudo apt install lightdm

- If it doesn't ask you to set the default display manager, then do this after,
and set lightdm as the default:
+ If it doesn't ask you to set the default display manager, then do this after,
and set lightdm as the default when prompted:
  sudo dpkg-reconfigure gdm3

After that, the system will boot and let you log in normally.

This problem is happening on a Clevo laptop without Optimus, with a
- discrete nvidia gtx 970m device, after installing any of the modern
+ dedicated nvidia gtx 970m device, after installing any of the modern
nvidia drivers from version 390 onward, from the official repo, from the
graphics PPA, and I presume also the official driver from the nvidia

+ I tested on both Ubuntu 18.04.1 + updates, and Ubuntu 18.10 + updates.

I tested with nvidia driver versions 390, 396, and 415.

gdm3 works fine until you install the nvidia driver.

Another note, in the last 2 years, Ubiquity has never booted correctly

2018-12-15 Thread Darin Miller
Removing the maybe-ubiquity from the boot params, booted to live session
3 out 3 attempts.

Sometimes the ubiquity boot will fail before the Try/Install menu is
displayed as shown in the attachment. And it on this hybrid hardware,
Try Kubuntu option always fails (assuming the ubiquity reaches that
point).

[Bug 1808657] [NEW] Ubiquity fails to boot when selecting the Try Kubuntu (live session).

2018-12-15 Thread Darin Miller
Public bug reported:

When booting to a live usb via UEFI boot on a hybrid Dell Inspiron 7559
laptop (Intel/Nvidia), the Try "Kubuntu option" hangs. If maybe-
ubiquity is removed from the boot parameters, the laptop will live boot
without issue. Proceeding directly to install works fine.

Another workaround is to add "nomodeset" to the boot parameters. But
nomodeset forces a VGA boot. VGA on a 4k screen provides a very poor
Live session experience.

I will reboot again with quiet mode disabled to see if any additional
errors are displayed.

[Bug 1485955]

2018-12-15 Thread Raykowj
Hi All,

To set a single table cell background the Table Properties dialog
Background tab page can be used.

Currently the Background Color button will only set the cell background
color for multi-selected table cells. For non multi-selected cells the
paragraph background color is set for the cell with the cursor.

Here is a patch that makes the Background Color button set cell
background color, not paragraph color, for the cell with the cursor:

https://gerrit.libreoffice.org/#/c/65195/

Testing and comments appreciated.

2018-12-15 Thread brian_p
Thanks.

Ok, there is no port 9100, so socket:// will not work. One lives and
learns!

Looking at the error_log again all the filters complete successfully:

D [14/Dec/2018:13:16:23 -0600] [Job 478] 4 filters for job:

D [14/Dec/2018:13:16:23 -0600] [Job 478] rastertogutenprint.5.2
(application/vnd.cups-raster to printer/MX860, cost 100)

Search for "exited" and "normally".

All that cnijnet:/ does is transport what rastertogutenprint.5.2
produces to the printer. Perhaps the printer is unhappy with the input
from gutenprint? I cannot test this.

I can only suggest you use the Canon drivers.

[Bug 1808581] Re: cannot print to Canon MX860 after upgrade to Ubuntu 18.04

2018-12-15 Thread Kim Eckert
I think my only other option is to de-install and re-install the printer
driver. That is a pain because Canon does not support Linux drivers. I
have to search the web for the latest version from a hopefully reliable
source. It takes a day. Doing this always results in inconsistent
results for print and scan function on the printer. Sometimes only
print works, other times only scan. Since this happened when I upgraded
my machine to 18.04, re-installing may be the best answer.

2018-12-15 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error on your system when
trying to install a particular package. Please execute the following
command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal:

sudo apt-get clean

Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your
issue, but the failure could be caused by filesystem or memory
corruption. So please also run a fsck on your filesystem(s) and a
memory test. Thanks in advance!

[Bug 1808649] [NEW] TLS_CIPHER_LIST and TLS_PROTOCOL Ignored

2018-12-15 Thread Gerald Drouillard
Public bug reported:

No matter what you put in TLS_CIPHER_LIST and/or TLS_PROTOCOL the
settings are ignored.

There is no way to limit the TLS Protocol or Cipher list in courier imap
or pop. This is critical for PCI compliance. Older versions would
allow you to manipulate the tls_cipher_list to get the desired effects.

The only setting that seem to change the protocols now is the
TLS_DHPARAMS setting. If it is blank you will loose some protocols
naturally.

A PCI scan will result in the following errors on a 18.04 server:
IMAP (993/tcp) Early TLS Protocol Detection
IMAP (993/tcp) SSL 64-bit Block Size Cipher Suites Supported (SWEET32)
CVE-2016-2183
IMAP (993/tcp) SSL Medium Strength Cipher Suites Supported
IMAP (993/tcp) Sweet32 Birthday Attack CVE-2016-2183
IMAP (993/tcp) TLS Version 1.0 Protocol Detection

The same applies to POP

A quick way to enumerate the ciphers/protocols currently active:
nmap --script ssl-enum-ciphers -p 993 mail.yourserver.com

** Affects: courier (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

** Information type changed from Private Security to Public

[Bug 1808581] Re: cannot print to Canon MX860 after upgrade to Ubuntu 18.04

2018-12-15 Thread brian_p
> -rw-r- 1 root lp 131822 Dec 14 13:17 MX860.ppd

There is nothing wrong here. A PPD is not readable by a user process,
only by one with root privileges. Whatever you ran did not have root
privileges.

You are using the gutenprint PPD for MX860; no problem there.

Now do

 lpadmin -p mx860 -v socket:// -E -P
/etc/cups/ppd/MX860.ppd

and print with

 lp -d mx860 /etc/nsswitch.conf

I am guessing that the Canon printer accepts jobs on port 9100 - most
printers do.

You could also set up lpadmin with -v cnijnet:/00-1E-8F-74-5A-78 and see
how you go on.

[Bug 1808646] [NEW] obaif graphics driver fails on amd while restarting

2018-12-15 Thread Paco Raxim
Public bug reported:

I have a hybrid card and I don't see the AMD Radeon Topaz M260, thus I
have installed from obaif.

Problem:
While restarting my computer - half bottom of the screen has got lines.
(a refreshing problem of the screen - I'm on 100HZ),
which does not happen on stop/start.
Sometimes it happens on stop.

While restarting:
After logging in with my user/password, before that it's not happening.

There is no report bug button on the obaif corner of the launchpad.

I'm not sure, but somehow I had a Nvidia driver installed also, which I
have removed. (at least I hope) It caused also problems (indefinite
loops while trying to replace the mesa driver, even if I haven't any
nvidia hardware, which is absolute bunker)

In the official AMD page my card is not supported. (14.04 is the last release
2015)
Last time when I tried to install the official amd-gpu driver, I was not able
to log in.

So at the moment, I don't see my second card, although the problem on
restart seems to be disappeared. (the reported flickering issue of
scrolling)

As I had many combinations, like nvidia was installed, obaif not, and
both and got similar flickering problems i kindly ask you how to get my
graphics card up and running without making a crap from my intel HD 5500
also.

[Bug 1808581] Re: cannot print to Canon MX860 after upgrade to Ubuntu 18.04

2018-12-15 Thread brian_p
I'm a little perplexed, Kim, because CUPS appears not to detect your
printer. Anyway, we'll leave that on one side and look at the error_log
and at the line

  "DEVICE_URI=cnijnet:/00:1E:8F:74:5A:78"

I am not familiar with Canon printers, but this looks like a
misconfiguration. From what I see elsewhere, it should be

  "DEVICE_URI=cnijnet:/00-1E-8F-74-5A-78"

I would expect this (ofter called JetDirect) to work too:

  "DEVICE_URI=socket://"

There should be a PPD for the print queue in /etc/cups/pppd. What does
its *cupsFilter line show?

if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.

At a minimum, we need:
1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem.
2. The behavior you expected.
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 1802701] Re: package codeblocks-contrib 16.01~ubuntu16.04.1 failed to install/upgrade: trying to overwrite '/usr/lib/codeblocks/wxContribItems/libwxchartctrl.so.0.0.1', which is also in package c

2018-12-15 Thread Juhani Numminen
The conflicting package codeblocks-libwxcontrib0 is not provided by
Ubuntu so this is not a bug in Ubuntu.

It looks like the third-party codeblocks that you have installed cannot
be installed at the same time as the Ubuntu-provided codeblocks. I
suggest you make a decision which one you are going to use, and remove
the other.
