[Bug 1807056] Re: Occasional Keyboard freeze

2018-12-21 Thread Dilip
@Daniel , It happened in Cinnamon as well. I had some important work so
I was using Windows 10 ( dual boot ) all these days. The issue is
limited to 18.04. I wanted to update this thread and started using
Cinnamon today. The keyboard just froze for about 1 minute and then
everything got ok by itself.

[Bug 1809407] Re: [nvidia] After resume the unlock screen is a black background with pixel garbage. Bitmap garbage flashes on the screen when interacting with anything.

2018-12-21 Thread Kevin McMurtrie
I did some random trial and error debugging.

There's always a login screen on console 1 and there's always a desktop
GUI on console 2. It's sometimes waking from sleep into display 2 while
still locked. There's a dock, a system menu, and random bitmap garbage.
Hitting CTRL-ALT-F1 goes to the login screen. After logging in, it
jumps to a normally working display 2.

Not sure if it's related: CTRL-ALT-fkey is sometimes generating app
keyboard events rather than switching consoles.

Installing 18.04 completely corrupted my system and I had wipe the disk.
This isn't an old crusty installation.

[Bug 1809516] Re: 18.04 LTS LiveCD ships with unmet dependency breaking apt state

2018-12-21 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1809516/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1771031] Re: Please remove libgnome from Ubuntu

2018-12-21 Thread Jeremy Bicha
** No longer affects: gbonds (Ubuntu)

** No longer affects: gnome-commander (Ubuntu)

** Description changed:

libgnome has been removed from Debian Testing and will not be included
in the Debian 10 "Buster" release. We should do the same. If we do it
now, maybe some projects will do the needed porting work away from
libgnome (porting to gtk3 is probably needed) in time for Ubuntu 20.04
LTS or Debian 10. Users who are hurt by these removals can keep using
Ubuntu 18.04 LTS for a few years.

This bug depends on these other removals:
  gnome-python LP: #1739800
- gnome-sharp2 LP: #1771025
+ DONE: gnome-sharp2 LP: #1771025
  DONE: shutter LP: #1771030

The libgnome removal in turn blocks these other removals:

  libgnome-keyring LP: #1771036

I'm still taken to the landing page as if I needed to unlock my

[Bug 1809516] [NEW] 18.04 LTS LiveCD ships with unmet dependency breaking apt state

2018-12-21 Thread Nathan
Public bug reported:

The latest release of the 18.04 LTS livecd downloaded a few days ago
appears to have been shipped with unmet dependencies that leave the
package manager apt in a broken state. The end result being apt blocks
further package installation (i.e. in my case bcache-tools). After
searching this issue doesn't appear to have been reported yet.

The package, bsd-mailx, has an unmet dependency for default-mta or mail-
transport-agent which apt resolves to postfix.

Postfix is not installed by default within the live environment and the
normal procedure of using apt-get --fix-missing install does not
complete due to a problem during installation with the postfix debian
package.

Removal of the bsd-mailx package is necessary to resume normal package
manager operations, and its unclear whether the removal breaks other
expected (or required) functionality of the 18.04 LTS OS.

I'd also like to add the error output for apt could be greatly improved
for both readability and troubleshooting complexity if the output
between --fixmissing and apt install exceptions were consistent.

The --fix-missing output does not correctly reference the package with
the unmet dependency. In this particular case the output reference
refers to postfix which was a package name resolution by apt from
default-mta or mail-transport-agent.

The result being several, potentially unnecessary, extra steps during
troubleshooting and identification of the package causing the issue.

[Bug 1809505] Re: 'Livepatch-Notif' is always a zombie process after a system restart

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1809505/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1809503] Re: package libosp5 1.5.2-13ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: read error in '/var/lib/dpkg/info/libosp5.triggers': Input/output error

2018-12-21 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Reviewing your dmesg attachment in this bug report it
seems that there is a problem with your hardware. I recommend
performing a back up and then investigating the situation. Measures you
might take include checking cable connections and using software tools
to investigate the health of your hardware. In the event that is is not
in fact an error with your hardware please set the bug's status back to
New. Thanks and good luck!

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1809510] Re: ubuntu minimal 1804 image published to GCE has the wrong family name

2018-12-21 Thread Sherry Li
Hi, to clarify, this is a not package related issue but an issue that
the new ubuntu image released to GCP (google cloud platform) on 12/20,
where it broke the contract for image family name. If you think this
bug should be re-routed, please do so.

[Bug 1804593] Re: thermal thermal_zone0: failed to read out thermal zone

If you need those newer vega firmware for your hardware you need to
update linux-firmware. Best would be to get the src deb from debian sid
or Ubuntu development (19.04) repo and recompile it on your system. I

[Bug 1790454] Re: Bluetooth (btintel) stops working after suspend/resume

2018-12-21 Thread DH
I am having a similar issue with Intel 8260. Wifi and BT works correctly
after cold boot. Wifi works correctly after suspend, but BT was showing
no adapters available in KDE plasma widget. dmesg would report "[
150.064149] Bluetooth: hci0: Failed to send firmware data (-38)" after
each resume.

My 8260 was not listed in lsusb, but is listed in lspci.

Fix in #47 did not work for me. However, adding a systemd service to
rmmod and modprobe btusb after each resume seems to have the BT adapter
working correctly now.

[Bug 1725955] Re: "Printer added" notification

2018-12-21 Thread Sebastian Thürrschmidt
Just a wild guess: Maybe avahi-daemon is involved somehow? For me at
least these annoying messages seem to have stopped completely after
throwing out the avahi-daemon service (for other reasons).

So you may try this:

systemctl disable avahi-daemon.socket avahi-daemon.service

If it helps, do this:

systemctl mask avahi-daemon.socket avahi-daemon.service
systemctl stop avahi-daemon.socket avahi-daemon.service

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Bug 1809507] [NEW] gnome crashes when opening gnome-control-center

2018-12-21 Thread Chris Poliquin
Public bug reported:

Version information:
  Ubuntu Release: Ubuntu 18.10
  xserver-xorg-video-nouveau: 1:1.0.15-3
  gnome-control-center: 3.30.2

Expected Behavior:
Launching gnome-control-center should show Ubuntu settings.

What Happens:
Launching gnome-control-center causes gnome to crash, resulting in user being
logged out and returned to login screen.

Further Information:
I ran `gnome-control-center -v > out.log 2>&1&` to investigate and get the
following in the log...

nvc0_screen_create:983 - Error allocating PGRAPH context for M2MF: -16
XIO: fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server ":0"
after 11 requests (11 known processed) with 0 events remaining.

[Bug 1807043] Re: when rewriting sources.list ubuntu-release-upgrader doesn't check to see if new release is available

2018-12-21 Thread Brian Murray
** Description changed:

  [Impact]
When rewriting sources.list entries the release-upgrader doesn't check to see
if the distribution to which the system is being upgraded is supported by the
archive / PPA. This results in the following error message:

A problem occurred during the update. This is usually some sort of
network problem, please check your network connection and retry.

  E:The repository 'http://ppa.launchpad.net/team-xbmc/ppa/ubuntu
cosmic Release' does not have a Release file.

If the release-upgrader were to actually check if the release were
supported then that specific sources entry could be disabled and the
upgrade may be able to proceed.

  [Test Case]
The test case involves adding a PPA which doesn't have a release file for the
release to which you are upgrading for upgrading to cosmic we can use the
team-xbmc ppa.

  1) sudo add-apt-repository ppa:team-xbmc/ppa
  2) do-release-upgrade --frontend DistUpgradeViewText
- 3) Observe the error message re "does not have a Release file".
+ 3) Observe the error message re "does not have a Release file" and the
upgrade cancel.
+
+ With the version of the release upgrader from -proposed you will instead
+ see the following message: "Some third party entries in your
+ sources.list were disabled.". Then the release upgrade will proceed to
+ the calculation phase, you can quit the upgrade after the calculation
+ and check /var/log/dist-upgrade/main.log for the following:
+
+ DEBUG entry '# deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/team-xbmc/ppa/ubuntu bionic
+ main' was disabled (no Release file)
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+ It seems like an oversight that this part of the release-upgrader never did
check for Release files and that this is the right thing to do. Its possible
that people who were not allowed to upgrade, because they had PPAs without
support for the release to which they wanted to upgrade, are now allowed to
upgrade and somehow run in to an upgrade failure e.g. a failure to calculate
the upgrade. That seems better and more informative than not allowing them to
upgrade at all though.

[Bug 1809505] [NEW] 'Livepatch-Notif' is always a zombie process after a system restart

2018-12-21 Thread chris pollock
Public bug reported:

This is Ubuntu 18.04.1 with update-notifier version
apt-cache policy update-notifier
update-notifier:
  Installed: 3.192.1.4
  Candidate: 3.192.1.4

As shown here - https://imageshack.com/i/pl753Ekfp AFAICT I don't have
livepatch enabled. Running:

chris@localhost:/var/log$ ps axo stat,ppid,pid,comm | grep -w defunct
Z+3283 3290 livepatch-notif

3283 chris 20 0 585404 23776 17608 S 0.0 0.2 0:00.09

notifier

3290 chris 20 0 0 0 0 Z 0.0 0.0 0:00.00
livepatch-notif

It's no big deal to remove the zombie by killing update-notifier
however I don't know if that's the right thing to do or not and why is
livepatch-notif always a zombie process after a restart?
