[Bug 1758736] Re: [USB-Audio - SteelSeries Arctis 7, playback] No stereo playback only mono playback

2019-03-01 Thread Dave Chiluk
I have tested bionic and cosmic myself, but I'd like to hear from a user
or two. I have experienced the low-volume issue, but that appears to be
correctable by launching alsamixer. All in all it's a better experience
than before imho.

[Bug 185165] Re: Ubuntu does not open MS Windows internet shortcuts with 'url' extension

2019-03-01 Thread Dmitri
If someone is still interested in opening .url files, I created a simple debian
package that handle this.
It opens URL in the default browser using xdg-open.

But may I add and hope you are talking about my system , I am using a
Dell lap top purchased during 2006 with (bio date not remembered yet
,and later the bio date status changed without my knowledge, some time
back). I am not a tech/ expert ,but experiment with all type linux and
different flavors of ubuntu .What I know is bios not reboot
automatically ,every time i open system, i have to reset bio. The system
has very severe remote interference and do not have a stable status.

Becasue of my driving experience (ignorant certainly), I manage some
how this desktop and run things.:-)

[Bug 1765998] Re: FS access deadlock with btrfs quotas enabled

2019-03-01 Thread Michael Sparmann
Hm, it's been a while...
I think back then I made some btrfs developers aware of it on IRC, but never
got around to sending it to the mailing list.
I'm running my own kernel builds for now (I had to do that to fix some other
issues anyway) with the patch from comment #4 applied, which seems to reliably
fix this issue.

I am very occasionally getting parent transid verify errors on the quota
tree though, which I believe must be originating from another bug added
at some point after I posted that patch here, because initially I didn't
have any of those for several months. It seems that those can be cleaned
up by temporarily disabling and re-enabling quota, so they are no big
deal to me right now, despite causing some annoying downtime
occasionally.

It isn't (except that if apport-bug were working, it would have made
sure the bug was filed against the right package!). Sorry, it's easy to
make a mistake when filing a bug manually.

[Bug 1812760] Re: networkd: [Route] PreferredSource not working in *.network files

2019-03-01 Thread Steve Langasek
And added some more on regression potential.

** Description changed:

  [Impact]

  Users cannot create IPv6 routes that specify PreferredSource. This means
  that users cannot specify a number of valid IPv6 routes that are useful
  in some circumstances. These routes can be created with the 'ip' tool,
  just not with systemd.

  This was reported upstream in systemd issue #5882 is fixed by pulling in
  the changes in systemd PR #11375 -
  https://github.com/systemd/systemd/pull/11375

  [Test Case]

  Start a Bionic or Cosmic VM.

  Add the following netplan yaml (adjust for ethernet card and MAC):

  network:
  version: 2
  ethernets:
  ens3:
  dhcp4: true
  match:
  macaddress: 52:54:00:e2:c2:d7
  set-name: ens3
  addresses: ["fd8f:1d7d:b141::2/64", "fd8f:1d7d:b141::200/64"]
  routes:
    - to: "a::/16"
  via: "fd8f:1d7d:b141::1"
  from: "fd8f:1d7d:b141::2"
    - to: "fd8f:1d7d:b141::/64"
  scope: link
  from: "fd8f:1d7d:b141::2"
  metric: 255

  Run netplan apply or reboot. Wait ~10s.

  Currently, ip -6 route will not include a route to "a::/16", and will
  not include the route to "fd8f:1d7d:b141::/64" that has
  "fd8f:1d7d:b141::2" as the source address - both those addresses will be
  missing.

  Correct behaviour is for ip -6 route to report the following:

  ubuntu@b-np:~$ ip -6 route
  a::/16 via fd8f:1d7d:b141::1 dev ens3 proto static src fd8f:1d7d:b141::2
metric 1024 pref medium
  fd8f:1d7d:b141::/64 dev ens3 proto static src fd8f:1d7d:b141::2 metric 255
pref medium
  fd8f:1d7d:b141::/64 dev ens3 proto kernel metric 256 pref medium
  fe80::/64 dev ens3 proto kernel metric 256 pref medium

  Check before and after upgrade that 'systemctl status network-
  online.target' shows that the target has been reached.

  [Regression Potential]

  This changes the state machine in systemd which configures the links. It
  passes systemd's internal tests, and has been approved by systemd
  maintainers, but it remains possible that the changes will break the
  configuration of obscure network setups.

  The backport requires pulling in two further commits that also change
  behaviour: currently systemd deletes all addresses and routes that were
  attached to an interface. With this change, it will only delete those
- that are not specified in the configuration files. I do not know how
- this could cause issues - it moves from a surprising behaviour to a less
- surprising behaviour, but it's worth pointing out.
+ that are not specified in the configuration files. A side effect of this
+ is that restarting networkd will not cause remove/add netlink events to
+ be emitted for these addresses, so if anyone is relying on this behavior
+ this will break compatibility; but that is an unlikely thing to be
+ relying on, and it seems worth this risk to reduce unnecessary network
+ state changes.

[Bug 1736222] Re: speech-dispatcher distorts all sound

2019-03-01 Thread Sean
This is also affecting me. I am running an Alienware R4 i7 with an
1070gt gpu.

Ubuntu has other sound issues with this laptop to. However randomly
speech-dispatcher distorts all sound.

For me it's not a specific website the process seems to start whenever
it wants, but doesn't always cause a problem.

I would like some attention on this though as it causes problems using
Ubuntu to work remotely, as I need to communicate with my team and can't
when speech-dispatcher causes problems. I'm using my Mac for now but
would like to get this fixed for Ubuntu.

Affected both 16.04 and 18.04 on this laptop.
Killing the process resolves the issue until it next runs.

[Bug 1812760] Re: networkd: [Route] PreferredSource not working in *.network files

2019-03-01 Thread Steve Langasek
I've extended the test case to require an explicit check that 'network-
online.target' is still handled as expected after this change.

** Description changed:

  [Impact]

  Users cannot create IPv6 routes that specify PreferredSource. This means
  that users cannot specify a number of valid IPv6 routes that are useful
  in some circumstances. These routes can be created with the 'ip' tool,
  just not with systemd.

  This was reported upstream in systemd issue #5882 is fixed by pulling in
  the changes in systemd PR #11375 -
  https://github.com/systemd/systemd/pull/11375

  [Test Case]

  Start a Bionic or Cosmic VM.

  Add the following netplan yaml (adjust for ethernet card and MAC):

  network:
- version: 2
- ethernets:
- ens3:
- dhcp4: true
- match:
- macaddress: 52:54:00:e2:c2:d7
- set-name: ens3
- addresses: ["fd8f:1d7d:b141::2/64", "fd8f:1d7d:b141::200/64"]
- routes:
-   - to: "a::/16"
- via: "fd8f:1d7d:b141::1"
- from: "fd8f:1d7d:b141::2"
-   - to: "fd8f:1d7d:b141::/64"
- scope: link
- from: "fd8f:1d7d:b141::2"
- metric: 255
+ version: 2
+ ethernets:
+ ens3:
+ dhcp4: true
+ match:
+ macaddress: 52:54:00:e2:c2:d7
+ set-name: ens3
+ addresses: ["fd8f:1d7d:b141::2/64", "fd8f:1d7d:b141::200/64"]
+ routes:
+   - to: "a::/16"
+ via: "fd8f:1d7d:b141::1"
+ from: "fd8f:1d7d:b141::2"
+   - to: "fd8f:1d7d:b141::/64"
+ scope: link
+ from: "fd8f:1d7d:b141::2"
+ metric: 255

  Run netplan apply or reboot. Wait ~10s.

  Currently, ip -6 route will not include a route to "a::/16", and will
  not include the route to "fd8f:1d7d:b141::/64" that has
  "fd8f:1d7d:b141::2" as the source address - both those addresses will be
  missing.

  Correct behaviour is for ip -6 route to report the following:

  ubuntu@b-np:~$ ip -6 route
  a::/16 via fd8f:1d7d:b141::1 dev ens3 proto static src fd8f:1d7d:b141::2
metric 1024 pref medium
  fd8f:1d7d:b141::/64 dev ens3 proto static src fd8f:1d7d:b141::2 metric 255
pref medium
  fd8f:1d7d:b141::/64 dev ens3 proto kernel metric 256 pref medium
  fe80::/64 dev ens3 proto kernel metric 256 pref medium

+ Check before and after upgrade that 'systemctl status network-
+ online.target' shows that the target has been reached.

- [Regression Potential]
+ [Regression Potential]

  This changes the state machine in systemd which configures the links. It
  passes systemd's internal tests, and has been approved by systemd
  maintainers, but it remains possible that the changes will break the
  configuration of obscure network setups.

  The backport requires pulling in two further commits that also change
  behaviour: currently systemd deletes all addresses and routes that were
  attached to an interface. With this change, it will only delete those
  that are not specified in the configuration files. I do not know how
  this could cause issues - it moves from a surprising behaviour to a less
  surprising behaviour, but it's worth pointing out.
