[Bug 1819263] Re: GNOME Shell applet can't open System Monitor installed as Snap
Hi Peter, Thanks for your bug report. I was one of the original authors the system-monitor extension however no longer actively involved in the project. gnome-shell extensions are not supported by Canonical/Ubuntu (unless they are installed in the default session) or GNOME. You would need to fix system-monitor extension to support querying for snaps in case the desktop file is not found. This could easily be done through the CLI with `snap list` and `snap run`. However a much nicer solution would probably be to use snapd-glib which provides gobject-introspection bindings to snapd. I am not really familiar with their API, but suspect it should provide similar functionality to the CLI tool. I am going to close this bug since its not really a bug in gnome-system- monitor and could equally happen on any other distro that supports snaps, if the user has installed gnome-system-monitor as a snap instead of native packaging. ** Changed in: gnome-system-monitor (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1819263 Title: GNOME Shell applet can't open System Monitor installed as Snap To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-system-monitor/+bug/1819263/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1783298] Re: [SRU] AuthInfoRequired negotiate in cups 2.2.7 in Bionic does not work
** Description changed: [Impact] If a print queue is set up with "auth-info-required=negotiate" because the server requires authentication (for example Kerberos) the user is - asked for user name and password on every jon, insteaf of the + asked for user name and password on every join, instead of the authentication working automatically. This worked correctly in 14.04 and 16.04. Also setting "AuthType Default" for "/" in cupsd.conf leads to be prompted for a password on commands like "lpatat -a", even for root. Works correctly in Xenial and Cosmic. [Test Case] Set up a queue pointing to a Kerberos-authenticated Windows server with "lpadmin ... -o auth-info-required=negotiate ..." OR set "AuthType Default" for "/" in cupsd.conf. When printing or running other commands accessing your print queue you will get prompted for credentials. With the fix the authentication will get automatic again. [Regression Potential] Low, as the fix are simple one-line corrections taken from upstream. [Original report] Hi, We have our printers configured to print to a Windows print server. In Ubuntu 14.04 and 16.04 our setup works fine but in 18.04 our setup seems to be acting more like AuthInfoRequired username, password i.e. it prompts for a password when printing rather than using the available Kerberos credentials. We are using an unaltered cupsd.conf file and are adding printers with the following command: lpadmin -p "printer" -D "Printer" -L "room" -v "smb://printers.cis.strath.ac.uk/printers" -o Media=A4 -o PageSize=A4 -o printer-error-policy=abort-job -o auth-info-required=negotiate -m "CIS /hp-officejet_pro_476_576_series-ps.ppd" the smb backend has been linked to /usr/lib/x86_64-linux- gnu/samba/smbspool_krb5_wrapper (I've added this the apparmor profile as it's blocked by default) and the permissions on this file changed to 700 (owner root) as per manpage instructions. When using lp -d printer /tmp/test.txt I get the following response: Password for myuid on localhost? Typing my password gets the job accepted to the queue but it does spool to the Windows Print Server and in the error_log file I can see D [24/Jul/2018:10:33:00 +0100] [Job 45] SMBSPOOL_KRB5 - AUTH_INFO_REQUIRED=negotiate D [24/Jul/2018:10:33:00 +0100] [Job 45] SMBSPOOL_KRB5 - Started with uid=0 D [24/Jul/2018:10:33:00 +0100] [Job 45] SMBSPOOL_KRB5 - AUTH_UID is not set As I said earlier this all works perfectly on Xenial and Trusty. (A similar AuthInfoRequired negotiate setup also works in cups 2.2.5 on MacOS 10.13) Any ideas how to fix this? Thanks, Ian. SpaceFM GTK3 indeed works without hanging. Moreover, there is finally a report about the rarer Leafpad crash: the error in the LXDE log is **identical** to pcmanfm error. [Bug 159356] Re: When DMA is disabled system freeze on high memory usage
I am running on a ~9 year laptop with 1866MiB ram and 3933MiB swap. Lubuntu installed. Linux ub2 4.18.0-16-generic #17-Ubuntu SMP Fri Feb 8 00:06:57 UTC 2019 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux So my problem is for example, having two different browsers open with too many open browser tabs (4-6) on each caused a high memory load with system freeze. I noticed that swap was not being used in a why that I think it should be, that is a general slow down as more and more swap was used. Instead I got instant freeze for 30 minutes or more. So I found a program called munch.c and played around with it. I also created different versions of munch.c so memory usage was different. I was able to change system vm settings (in /proc/sys/vm) so the freeze stopped and swap started to be used correctly so that real memory and virtual memory became balanced. I define "balanced" to mean as more swap is used the system gradually becomes slower without freezing. In fact in the beginning the Linux-memory-swap system was very poor (default settings) and a Microsoft Windows 7 machine with same memory far far better at memory-swap management. My conclusion (for now) is that by altering default settings the Linux system became much better because the freeze bug was eliminated. I turned on the SysRq feature to enable the (f) option. I found I could make the SysRq (f) work straight away. Also found the automatic OOM now kicked in as well, if I waited a bit. I will add more details to this at a later time. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/159356 Title: When DMA is disabled system freeze on high memory usage To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/159356/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1808038] Re: ubuntu-distro-info should include information about ESM status
** Description changed: [Impact] - ubuntu-distro-info is an important source of information about the current support state of the various Ubuntu releases. Currently, however, it provides no information about the status of Extended Security Maintenance for Ubuntu releases, which is an important aspect of Ubuntu "support". + + ubuntu-distro-info is an important source of information about the + current support state of the various Ubuntu releases. Currently, + however, it provides no information about the status of Extended + Security Maintenance for Ubuntu releases, which is an important aspect + of Ubuntu "support". [Test Case] - 1) Run ubuntu-distro-info --help and observer there is no mention of ESM + + 1. Run ubuntu-distro-info --help and observer there is no mention of ESM With the version from -proposed there will be a switch to filter on ESM supported releases e.g. 'ubuntu-distro-info --supported-esm' and it'll be possible to show the number of days until the end of ESM ('ubuntu- distro-info --days=eol-esm --supported-esm -f). So the test case is really to make sure that those new filters work. [Regression Potential] - If the relationship between the packages isn't right then they will not be upgraded together and we could end up in a situation where distro-info is unusable because it doesn't recognize the number of columns in ubuntu.csv. Hello Dimitri, or anyone else affected, Accepted ruby-openssl into bionic-proposed. The package will build now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ruby- openssl/2.0.9-0ubuntu1 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository. Please help us by testing this new package. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update out to other Ubuntu users. If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug, mentioning the version of the package you tested and change the tag from verification-needed-bionic to verification-done-bionic. If it does not fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-failed-bionic. In either case, without details of your testing we will not be able to proceed. Further information regarding the verification process can be found at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in advance for helping! N.B. [Bug 1814326] Re: home, root, and temp folders display errors
Just for humor . . . now clicking on the toolbar PCMan-QT file manager applet . . . nothing happens; right-clicking it shows a drop down menu with some options, but it doesn't go away . . . and now, when I dragged the FireFox window . . . it shows something like one hundred Firefox windows Like instead of showing the window in its old place and then in the new place . . . it shows the "stop-action" frames of the movement . . . . Oh well, was hoping that this ws going to be the "go to" operating system . . . a little quirky still. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1814326 Title: home, root, and temp folders display errors To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pcmanfm-qt/+bug/1814326/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1814326] Re: home, root, and temp folders display errors
@Alf, et al: Latest update on the exclamations . . . ran a fairly large apt update/upgrade this am, possibly including the kernel . . . and there is both good news and also "stalemate" as well . . . . In the packages listed there was one file named something like "lxqt-n|10"??? which I think was the name of the file that showed up in Muon Package the other day, but checking the version of LXQT after the upgrade it still shows it as "0.14.0" . . . we have not achieved One-ness . . . aka 0.14.1. After the reboot I right-clicked on the "root" and the "temp" icons, and in the drop down menu for those two items was now a "trust this executable" line option. . . which I then "checked" and instantly the exclamations were gone. Right-clicking "open with" and "featherpad" opens a file for them that lists some data . . . but double clicking does not open them . . . the "up" side is that there is no longer an error window opening for them . . . . However, on the Home directory icon, stalemate remains, the exclamation continues to fly . . . just to check it I opened permissions and the "make the file executable" was still checked . . . I unchecked it and logged out, then logged back in and checked it again . . . clicked "OK" and no change. Double clicking the icon does nothing except to open the error message as it has been doing . . . .

[Bug 1733557] Re: Login screen showing Authentication Failure Switch to greeter...
** Description changed: - When I lock my machine, the login screen shows my current user with the - message: "Authentication Failure" + [Impact] - ..and in the position when the password normally exists, the option - "Switch to greeter..." + After locking, the login screen shows the message "Authentication + Failure" and the user must click "Switch to greeter" to continue. + + This SRU fixes the regression introduced in 44e6022, which causes the + lock screen to start failing when session switching is involved. This + can happen when you unlock the session from LightDM or from the CLI. We + need to cancel the authentication in order to ensure that the next one + does not fail. + + [Test Case] + + On a system with LightDM and more than one local user ("bob" and "alice"): + 1. Login under bob. + 2. Via upper-right menu switch to "alice". + 3. On greeter screen select "alice", login under alice. + 4. Logout, return to greeter screen. + 5. Select bob (already logged in). Enter password. + 6. Lock screen. + + [Other Info] This happens mostly after switching user sessions.
