[Bug 1819822] [NEW] upgrades fail with errors of the form apt: unknown dependency error

2019-03-12 Thread Alok G Singh
Public bug reported:

While running an upgrade, we see errors of the form

apt: unknown dependency error

This is very similar to the error in lp:1668583 and using "Request
upgrade" which runs dist-upgrade does allow upgrades to complete.

Looking for sources in backports does not throw up anything.

[Bug 1188569] Re: Some keyboard shortcuts randomly stop working

2019-03-12 Thread Max
unity-settings-daemon 15.04.1+19.04.20190209-0ubuntu2 built for
Ubuntu-18.04 bionic works for me. Please, backport changes to the LTS
version.

I have faced a problem with non-working keyboard language switcher in
unity desktop. It works till next screen lock. An irritating workaround
is to set shortcut again in system settings → Keyboard → Shortcuts →
Typing → Switch to next source.

The trivial patch I have had to apply is removing gnome-settings-daemon-
common dependency.

[Bug 1777579] Re: 18.04 Desktop LTS DNS behavior (systemd-resolved)

2019-03-12 Thread Ubfan
For a fresh install of Ubuntu 18.04 I found that libnss-resolve needed to be
installed to fix various systemd-resolvd errors (with a setup like you
describe, gateway does DHCP for a local net and DNS).
Your case may be different because you seem to have a null domain. My ISP sets
up a line like "search blah.blah.isp.net" which becomes the domain for nslookup
of plain names (without an ending period). When the ending period is used on
the plain machine name, then just the name is returned without the period or
domain and the address.
Another problem may be that upgrades from 16.04 may result in a different
systemd-resolvd setup.
The standard I assume is /etc/resolv.conf is a link to
/run/systemd/resolve/stub-resolv.conf, which contains nameserver 127.0.0.53,
options edns0, and search blah.blah.isp.net. There is another file
/run/systemd/resolve/resolv.conf which contains the gateway instead of
127.0.0.53. If you switch the /etc/resolv.conf link to this file, you cut
systemd-resolvd out of the loop, fixing some problems but maybe causing others.
The libnss-resolve package changes the hosts line in /etc/nsswitch.conf to:
hosts: files mdns4_minimal [NOTFOUND=return] resolve [!UNAVAIL=return]
dns myhostname
which fixes all problems I have noticed (including the dns failures when
running with a reduced function set after an NXDOMAIN error (see syslog)).

The ubuntu package doesn't include needed patch, i.e

Apply that and it'll work fine..

[Bug 1785778] Re: Hash Sum mismatch Ubuntu Server 18.04.1 LTS

2019-03-12 Thread R. Oliveira
I've faced the same issue, but in a recently installed Ubuntu Desktop 18.04 on
a Asus K46CB.
I tried @pujan fix but it didn't work.

Several minutes later I've tried to type: ~$ cat /etc/resolv.conf following
tips from here (Brazilian forum):
https://www.vivaolinux.com.br/topico/Iniciantes-no-Linux/Update-no-Ubuntu-1604-LTS

This command input in that thread was in fact intended to see the DNS
config, but just the execution of the command seems to solve the guy
problem.

So I tried to input the same command and after I've (magically) also
succeed to update the packages.

There are two possible misconceptions here:
- The kernel was already updating the packages because of the Ubuntu fresh
install and apt in some way get confused;
- Or it was a communication/network/ISP problem that got fixed by itself.

As I didn't try to directly update the packages after the "several
minutes" and type the cat command instead, it's not possible to know if
it really was the cat command or the network that got fixed. Also it's
kind of weird that the simple fact of checking a config file solve a
problem, right? But it is kind of huge coincidence that two different
computers in different years (2017 and 2019) got the same fix after that
command, isn't it?

2019-03-12 Thread Caiwyn
Can confirm. Specifically breaks DNS resolution in Firefox when I'm
logged into an OpenConnect VPN. I can resolve hosts that are in public
DNS, but I'm uncertain if this is because of caching. Internal DNS over
the VPN no longer resolves. Downgrading to the previous version of
resolvconf restores functionality.

[Bug 1784485] Re: [ZenBook S UX391UA, Realtek ALC294, Mic, Internal] No sound at all

2019-03-12 Thread antubis
So I switched to Linux Kernel 5 since RC-5 and I was switching to the
latest version ever since a new one is released. It seems that the 5
branch has fixed the issue for good. I am on 5.0.1 and have no issue
with output. *fingers crossed*

However I do have an issue with the input. Cannot recognize my internal
microphone. Not a big issue as I don't speak that much or I can use
different devices for that communication but the mic is the last bit
that is not working on that "damn" Asus Zenbook.

[Bug 1819816] Re: Gnome-shell-dbgsym is out of date

2019-03-12 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Hmm, gnome-shell-dbgsym (3.28.3+git20190124-0ubuntu18.04.1) installs
just fine if you install it afterwards.

AFAIK most packages avoid this problem by automatically uninstalling
debug symbol packages before updating the binary packages (which is
annoying in itself). It appears that didn't happen in your case.

Possible workaround: Just uninstall gnome-shell-dbgsym, update the
system and then reinstall gnome-shell-dbgsym.

[Bug 1819802] Re: Ubuntu 19.04: Sound goes wonky every now and then(persisted through 18.04 to 19.04)

2019-03-12 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1819802/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1819816] Re: Gnome-shell-dbgsym is out of date

2019-03-12 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Also, it appears the problem is arising from your existing debug package
being a higher version than the binary package not yet installed. I
don't know how to reproduce this situation without intentionally
breaking the system...

Please try this as a fix:

  sudo apt update
  sudo apt install -f
  sudo apt update
  sudo apt full-upgrade

[Bug 1819744] Re: 19.04 Disco default wallpapers

2019-03-12 Thread TuxThePenguin
There appears to be a mistake with the greyscale wallpaper, in the top
right there is a square in the greyscale variant while the coloured
variant has a diagonal line.

It is only very faint but is noticeable when used as a wallpaper.

[Bug 1591352] Re: Ubiquity copies efi boot information to wrong ESP

2019-03-12 Thread Drew Walton
The interesting thing about this bug (which really is a bug) is that
ubiquity will happily create an ESP partition for you when you choose to
install to sdb/sdc/anything that isn't sda, but won't even use it. It'll
automatically mount the Windows ESP partition, which it really shouldn't
be touching.

[Bug 1575053] Re: Please move the "$HOME/snap" directory to a less obtrusive location

2019-03-12 Thread Alex Corbin
Just made/realized I had a launchpad account for this. I love snapd but I'm
tired of seeing the ~/snap directory pop up so much that I added a line to my
bashrc to notify me if it shows up again. I'll likely be reinstalling snaps
once this gets fixed, but I do want to say one thing to the developers. when a
problem has 5 times as much "heat" as the next largest complaint, your userbase
probably cares a lot about it, and it comes off as pretty disrespectful for you
to just pass it off as an example of the Law of triviality. IMO, this should
have been done soon after this bug was posted, and symlinks of some kind for
each snaps download folders and such.
That being said, I have barely looked at the snap code at all, and would like
to ask the developers why just grepping for every @{HOME}/snap and replacing it
with @{HOME}/.snap wouldn't solve the problem? What containerization would be
broken if you found and changed every reference to the snap folder?

[Bug 1800196] Re: spice-vdagent[1345]: Cannot access vdagent virtio channel /dev/virtio-ports/com.redhat.spice.0

2019-03-12 Thread Tero Gusto
I am also getting this error in my Ubuntu 18.04 logs during boot. I
tried disabling it under Startup Applications:

Spice vdagent
/usr/bin/spice-vdagent
Agent for Spice guests

... yet I still get the error. I tested the service path by temporarily
renaming /usr/bin/spice-vdagent and rebooting, which stopped the error
occurring in the log.

I don't need the Spice vdagent service, so is there an elegant way to
prevent the service from even trying to run?

The easiest solution would be to uninstall spice-vdagent, but that
doesn't seem to be possible, since it would also remove ubuntu-desktop,
which would be unfortunate, to say the least.

2019-03-12 Thread George Clark
Also fails on 16.04. Hanging on multiple installations.

After reboot, tenshi does not start automatically. But manually
starting it and waiting past the timeout, the tenshi tasks do start, and
tenshi apparently works fine, sending the expected log monitoring
messages.

[Bug 1772677] Re: gnome-shell filling up syslog with thousands/millions of entries with stack traces ending in osdWindow.js (lines 206/207 in bionic, lines 223/224 in cosmic)

Apologies for my previous message. Somehow I missed that a proposed fix
was available for testing. I'm having trouble figuring out how to
download the proposed fix, but I'm sure I can figure it out with time
and research. It's been years since any variant of Linux has been my
primary personal OS, so I'm still in the early stages of re-
familiarizing myself with everything.

By the way, since I forgot to include it before:

[Bug 1772677] Re: gnome-shell filling up syslog with thousands/millions of entries with stack traces ending in osdWindow.js (lines 206/207 in bionic, lines 223/224 in cosmic)

2019-03-12 Thread Brian Smith
Is there any fix or workaround for this bug? I installed a brand new
copy of Ubuntu 18.04 on a brand new 512 GB SSD three days ago on
Saturday evening (2019-03-09). I installed online updates during
installation. It is now Tuesday evening (2019-03-12). The computer has
been locked for most of the time since installation.

In my /var/log directory, I have two enormous files:
syslog (188.2 GB)
syslog.1 (264.5 GB)

And one smaller compressed older file:
syslog.2.gz (313.6 MB)

(I can confirm the issue I am experiencing is the error related to
"osdWindow.js:207" on 18.04.)

This needs a fix ASAP! I can't have my desktop filling up its storage
with hundreds of gigs of errors every day! (~188 + ~264= ~452 GB in two
or three days)

I've attached the output of ls -l /var/log for proof since these are
some of the largest hard numbers I've seen mentioned in this thread.

[Bug 1665151]

2019-03-12 Thread Steffn
This is not a bucket for all possible improvement ideas about mod_ssl
configurations. That is better discussed on the user/dev mailing lists.

As to the original report, I read the history of this as:
- not able to reproduce in a minimal set
- the effect of nested include files, some added maybe by a 3rd party tool,
e.g. certbot that were not immediately obvious

We have no reproducible setup for the title of this ticket, "
SSLProtocol settings seem to have no effect". Otherwise, it would be
helpful to provide a minimum example setup.

Otherwise we will close this ticket. We are open to discussions and
improvement proposals for making better server configurations. But those
should take place on the mailing lists.

Thank you.

[Bug 1613570] [NEW] Suru save icon looks too much like download icon

2019-03-12 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Google for "download icon" and you'll see that an arrow down to a
horizontal line is generally accepted as the icon for "download". See:
https://www.google.be/search?q=download+icon

In Suru icon theme, this icon however is the "save" icon. This has
already created some confusion in Ubuntu Touch apps:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/talaan-app/+bug/1612931

What I propose is that the "save" icon is changed into something that
resembles the universal "save" icon more (a floppy). An example:
https://d13yacurqjgara.cloudfront.net/users/71134/screenshots/1020838
/save-icon.png
