[Bug 1812527] Re: [bionic][regression] gnome-shell crashes with SIGSEGV in meta_window_actor_is_destroyed(self=NULL) called from _switchWorkspaceDone() [windowManager.js:1787]

2019-03-16 Thread Jeremy LaCroix
On my end, I haven't been able to reproduce this so far with Ubuntu
Appindicators disabled. It's very stable for me now. I am not 100% sure
this is the fix for me, time will tell. But it's definitely more stable
and possibly even fixed now.

[Bug 1759846] Re: Incorrect test used for anacron being active

2019-03-16 Thread Gordon Lack
This is *still* an issue nearly a year on.

A better test line is actually this, which checks for anacron being
present before checking whether it is enabled:

( test -x /usr/sbin/anacron && systemctl -q is-enabled anacron )

The () are needed.

[Bug 1820432] [NEW] Top bar Application Menu cannot be hidden

2019-03-16 Thread Jeremie Tamburini
Public bug reported:

Gnome Tweaks in Ubuntu 19.04

Selecting "Top Bar -> Application Menu", there is no way to hide the app
menu.

I suppose this happens because the app menu has been changed in the
latest Gnome Shell version and that's why the switch has no effect.

[Bug 1820430] [NEW] failed to install in latest 03-16-2019 disco-dingo xubuntu-desktop-amd64.iso

2019-03-16 Thread Derk Willem te Bokkel
Public bug reported:

install proceeded normally (manual partitioning) on reboot failed to
start X session .. rebooted to grub selection screen chose rescue mode
.. from the choices menu ran some checks then did updates install .. all
of the xorg-server files were installed automaticly .. then selected the
"boot resume " (not sure on wording) which then allowed normal login to
proceed (lightdm) into xfce/xubuntu evironment..

seems the xorg packages were not installed initially .. this appears to be a
recent "change" as earlier images did install these files normally.. early
march?, but February and earlier for sure..

this is a older machine lenovo SL500 with Intel GM45 Express Chipset video ..

This machine runs dicso fine normally .. has been running disco since first CD
install images were available .. daily updates from proposed .. but has only
run xorg-server ..
not sure if chipset is wayland capable..

I updated the bios to P5.30, it only locked up for once so far.
How do I turn the log on for this?

[Bug 1690085]

2019-03-16 Thread ison
I am still receiving lockups even with the latest BIOS, all the BIOS
setting recommendations here, and with the idle=halt kernel parameter.

Although I am now fairly certain that I have a faulty motherboard (x470) which
seems to be getting worse, and sometimes doesn't even get to the BIOS at all (I
should have suspected something was up when I first bought it and the PS/2 port
didn't work).
I'm going to try replacing it and hopefully that'll help.

[Bug 1690085]

2019-03-16 Thread zankuro
Hi guys. I have an Asus ROG Strix notebook with Ryzen 7 1700. My CPU was
manufactured on week 46 of 2017 (UA 1746PGS), so it does not have the
segfault problem. My notebook completely freeze when it is idle, not
always, but it is more common when newly powered (cool) or after heavy
activities. The freezes never occurred during more intense use, only
when idle. Like all notebook BIOS, my BIOS options is quite limited and
does not have a "Typical current idle" or similar option. I tried to
recompile the kernel with the option "RCU_NOCB_CPU" and also tried all
possible combinations with the parameters "rcu_nocbs", "iommu=soft/pt",
"idle=nomwait/halt", "pti=off" / "nopti", etc, etc, etc. The only
alternative that actually solved the freeze problem was to use the
program "zenstates.py" disabling the "c6state" core and package. But
this attitude makes my CPU run about 5°C warmer. I used Windows on this
same machine for weeks without any crashes. This makes me conclude the
following: does not crash on windows (ok, it's a software problem,
"linux"); CPU intel does not hang in linux (oh no, ok, it's a hardware
problem, "Ryzen"). I do not know what AMD thinks about this, but I was
forced to change my notebook. Now I got one with an Intel processor.
Thank you AMD.

This happens only sporadically. If it happens, is there some keyboard
sequence I can use to dump more information, or is the system totally
frozen at this point?

[Bug 1816768] Re: nvidia module fails to build [error: too many arguments to function ‘get_user_pages’]

2019-03-16 Thread Massimiliano Neri
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1573508 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1573508

I had the same issue yesterday with the latest update to the kernel 4.4.0-143
of my Ubuntu 16.04, with nvidia driver 396 already installed and working. Tried
to install nvidia-410 and nvidia-415, but no luck at all, always the same
error: nvidia kernel module failed to build. I had to uninstall kernel
4.4.0-143 and move back to 4.4.0.142.
Bug 1573508 only fixed nvidia driver 304, 340 and 384, so newer versions need
to be fixed too, I guess...

report to ensure that a regression will not be created by this SRU. In

[Bug 1820419] [NEW] linux-generic should depend on linux-base >=4.1

2019-03-16 Thread Fabian Zimmermann
Public bug reported:

Hi,

we run a automated pipeline which automatically installs ubuntu 16.04 by
pxe / netinstall.

This pipeline stopped working tonight, so I did some research.

Looks like linux-generic depends on linux-base, but requires a
tool/script which was added in 4.1 (linux-update-symlinks).

packages.ubuntu.com only shows linux-base 4.5, but if I take a look into
the packages.gz of /ubuntu/ there is still a 4.0 available.

So somehow(tm) it seems netinstall is installing the 4.0 version of
linux-base instead of the required 4.5 (4.1+).

In my opinion if a pkg needs a feature which is only available in a
newer version of a pkg, this pkg should be a depend, so linux-generic
should depend on linux-base >= 4.1 instead of just depend on linux-base.

I workarounded the problem by installing the hwe-kernel which has a
correct dependency on linux-base 4.5.

[Bug 1396654] Re: C++ demangling support missing from perf

2019-03-16 Thread Antoine Pitrou
I've installed linux-tools-common 4.15.0-47.50 from bionic-proposed and
checked that the new /usr/bin/perf binary still doesn't demangle C++
symbols (even when "perf report --demangle" is passed explicitly).

[Bug 1820413] [NEW] Firefox 66 can't open new tab

2019-03-16 Thread Joe Barnett
Public bug reported:

With the disco upgrade to firefox 66, I can't open new tabs, and the

[Bug 1814133] Re: update to openjdk 11 in 18.04 LTS

2019-03-16 Thread Andreas Schildbach
4) Android builds are entirely broken with OpenJDK 11.

Apparently, you'd be forced to upgrade Android Gradle plugin to at least
3.1.0 to be compatible to OpenJDK 11. Ubuntu/Debian still has version
2.2.2 [1]!

But even if you upgrade to 3.1.0 manually (bypassing apt), you'd break
reproducable builds. Versions 3.1 to 3.4 are dependent on file system
sort order. According to Google, that bug has recently been fixed in 3.5
[2] and will be backported to 3.4, but anyway these versions require
newer Gradle versions that have yet to appear in Ubuntu/Debian. So we
have a dependency deadlock that is currently unresolvable.

[Bug 1820409] [NEW] Audio stutter after update

2019-03-16 Thread Johnny Izzo
Public bug reported:

After some update:
Audio stutters in VLC
Video and audio stutters in Youtube

I think cpu usage might be bigger in VLC too, over 20% vs. below 20%
earlier (one thread gets full 100%?)

Stuttering kernel at the moment is 4.15.0-46-generic.

Kernel version 4.15.0-43-generic definitely worked good.
Cant remember if i could get slight stutter from previous version version -45.

Tried also lowlatency and 4.18 kernel, bad stuttering in those.

[Bug 1820323] Re: xorg crash

2019-03-16 Thread Timo Aaltonen
This bugreport was filed with the stock 16.04(.1) stack though, with
kernel 4.4 and xserver 1.18 but with an updated mesa. The failure here
is that some symlinks to amdgpu-pro got overwritten (since they were
owned by mesa, not amdgpu-pro..), and those need to be fixed manually.

To do that I think this should be enough:
apt --reinstall install libgl1-amdgpu-mesa-dri

That should restore the symlinks. AMD has fixed this bug in newer
releases, so that if the system mesa is upgraded, the symlinks
restoration is triggered after the upgrade.

[Bug 1820398] [NEW] new language region for World Domination, ISO aware language region

2019-03-16 Thread psl
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 18.04.2

I miss an easy way to configure system locale to be ISO aware. I would
like to see pre-configured package for this purpose.

When I install Ubuntu, installer doesn't ask about region. I guess it
uses timezone information and applies best effort to configure new
system. My example, I am in Czech Republic, Timezone is Europe/Prague,
so language is set to Czech and regional formats are set to Czech and.
Great configuration for secretary or poem writer...

As a side effect, when I go to CLI and do "ls -l", I see this output and
I really don't like it:

# ls -l
total 15208
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 15570124 lis 22 14:16 x.log

I like this output:

# LC_ALL=C ls -l
total 15208
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 15570124 Nov 22 14:16 x.log

We live in global World, many servers run in different clouds and are managed
by international teams, so some unification is required.

In the past, I was able to switch my desktop from Czech to to English
and after that tune some details, like switch time format from 12h to
24h format, etc. I cannot do this with Ubuntu 18.04 anymore. I have to
select pre-configured settings from 18.04 list, like Czech or US-English
or UK English, etc. I suggest to create new configuration, that will be
English with ISO aware time and date formats, and use as much as global
standards as possible, and deploy it with just selecting from menu
(install additional languages and regions).

I can go to my file-system and tune my local configuration in /etc and
rebuild locales. I believe it will be better to do it on system level,
to create "locale package" for "World Domination", package that will be
usable for all professionals who has to work in global environments in
different time zones. You can call it World Domination or "IT
professional" or "global ISO", or what ever you like...

BTW, this is my locale output, it is mix, chaos; it is result that was
generated by switching options in GUI..:

# locale
LANG=en_US.UTF-8
LANGUAGE=
LC_CTYPE="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_NUMERIC=cs_CZ.UTF-8
LC_TIME=cs_CZ.UTF-8

[Bug 1708426] Re: add mod_brotli

2019-03-16 Thread gijs van der velden
This issue still exists in Ubuntu 18.04 LTS.
It ships with Apache 2.4.29, which should include Brotli. However it's not
included with the Ubuntu version..

[Bug 1803681] Re: osmesa doesn't suport core contexts but could

2019-03-16 Thread Timo Aaltonen
indeed, it was enabled fairly recently:

mesa (18.3.0~rc5-1) experimental; urgency=medium

  * New upstream release candidate.
  * rules: Fix a typo in list of dri drivers.
  * rules, meson-add-glx-direct-toggle.diff: Fix build on hurd.
  * rules: Drop extra -Dosmesa from confflags.
  * rules: Don't build gallium nouveau on s390x.
  * rules: Classic osmesa needs classic swrast, and since it's not enabled
where llvmpipe is enabled, enable gallium osmesa there.

 -- Timo Aaltonen Fri, 30 Nov 2018 11:45:45 +0200

so, disco has it, and it's also on ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/updates

bionic will get it with 19.0.x backport for 18.04.3
