[Bug 1827734] Re: Touchpad and Keyboard stop working on Lubuntu 18.04.2

[Bug 1827734] [NEW] Touchpad and Keyboard stop working on Lubuntu 18.04.2
Public bug reported: lubuntu-18.04.2-desktop-i386 Model#: Dell Inspiron 2650 Processor: Intel Pentium 4 Touchpad: Windows XP reports it as "Synaptics PS2 port Touchpad" After repeated boots, the touchpad and keyboard stop working on a Dell laptop I am using. I have tried several fixes posted on the Internet, each one works for about 3 consecutive boots and then the problem starts all over again. Trying to use the stated fixes again, does not repeat the fix. I consider this a very serious issue, as a person loses all control of the system. The only solution to gain control back is to plug in a USB Keyboard and mouse, but this also after repeated boots fails. I've had to re-install Lubuntu, and then the process starts all over again. The devices work correctly under Windows XP - never have any issues with them. I tried these posted fixes with only temporary results: Posted Fix Attempt #1 At time of login press Ctrl+Alt+F3. Then input your username and password. After that, input the command sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-input-all Then input exit and restart Posted Fix Attempt#2 terminal: sudo nano /etc/default/grub GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash psmouse.proto=bare" save and exit sudo update-grub sudo add-apt-repository ppa:atareao/atareao sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install touchpad-indicator exit Reboot ** Affects: lubuntu-meta (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1827734 Title: Touchpad and Keyboard stop working on Lubuntu 18.04.2 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lubuntu-meta/+bug/1827734/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1827040] Re: Misbehaviour of iptables 'timestart' parameter in Ubuntu 19.04
Hello, Tyler, I works with your patch! Confirmed that with the patch, it understands the times as absolute ones. I managed to test it in a virtual machine. Switching from one version to the other, I can verify the behaviour easily. The command I am testing is: sudo iptables -I OUTPUT -p tcp -m owner --uid-owner -m time --weekdays Su,Mo,Tu,We,Th,Fr,Sa --timestart 00:00:00 --timestop 04:30:00 -j DROP being substituted by the user to be tested. So, when those two conditions are met (the time scheduled specified and the user), then tcp packets are dropped. With 5.0.0-13 kernel, time considered is since startup, so it rejects packets since the computer is up, no matter the time. It is important to specify all the week days (or perhaps Sunday is the one that matters); If not specified all of them, the test may not be tested correctly (that was my experience) With the new kernel, it allows those packets (unless between 00:00 and 04:30, ovbiuously). I think times are UTC based, so I test and try want I want to specify a time. Thanks a lot -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1827040 Title: Misbehaviour of iptables 'timestart' parameter in Ubuntu 19.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/iptables/+bug/1827040/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1798171] Re: System fails to boot with \EFI\BOOT\mmx64.efi - Not Found
Would it be possible to backport the fix from 19.04 to 18.04 LTS? The bug is quite difficult to work around, and easy to trigger - just abort the setup some time after checking the third-party-drivers box. For anyone who still needs a workaround for 18.04, because you for some reason don't want to install a newer version: I am assuming you are installing Ubuntu from a USB stick, which was created from the dowloaded ISO file. The problem with most previous suggested workarounds is that the stick shows up "read-only" because of the iso9660 filesystem), so you can't just copy the file as suggested. Use a second USB stick, format it with GPT partition table and FAT32 filesystem. Copy the folder /EFI to /EFI. Copy /EFI/grubx64.efi to /EFI/mmx64.efi Plug both sticks into the PC to be installed, boot from the new stick. Now you are in the GRUB bootloader, but on the "new" stick which is missing the rest of the Ubuntu setup files. Press c (commandline) set root=(hd1) Note: (hd1) is the "old" Ubuntu install stick. In your system, the number may be different, e.g. (hd2). Press "Tab" twice to see information about the drive; the right one will show up as "Ubuntu 18.04" Press Enter, Press ESC Select "Install ubuntu". Install ubuntu as usual. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1798171 Title: System fails to boot with \EFI\BOOT\mmx64.efi - Not Found To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/debian-installer/+bug/1798171/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1827717] [NEW] Normandy remote control should be disabled by default
Public bug reported: While sure useful as a way to remedy the add-on intermediate signing certificate expiry issue Mozilla has created (https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1548973), I really think Normandy should be disabled in Ubuntu by default: Normandy is a collection of servers, workflows, and Firefox components that enables Mozilla to remote control Firefox clients in the wild based on precise criteria. https://mozilla.github.io/normandy/ Reasoning: Software installed via APT should have defined states, software should not be allowed to change itself, unless the user has actively chosen to enable such functionality and this functionality points out, for the user, that it has this capability. The current default preference (per about:config) is: app.normandy.enabled;true ** Affects: firefox (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1827717 Title: Normandy remote control should be disabled by default To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+bug/1827717/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1827702] [NEW] Upgrade 18.10->19.04, fail to boot
Public bug reported: I was using kernel 4.19.20 with ubuntu 18.10 and it was working fine. Upgraded to 19.04 and it now boots approximately one attempt every 5. Doesn't depend on the kernel I choose (I have both 4.19.20 and 5.0.0 installed). If I use the default Ubuntu boot entry, I get a black screen (when normally it would prompt for the disk decryption password). If I go to advanced options and choose a kernel (doesn't matter which one or whether it's recovery mode or not) then I get "Loading linux ..." "Loading initial ramdisk ..." then nothing. Ctrl-alt-del doesn't work, power key needs holding for 10s to turn off. I've followed the steps to get it to print more output (gfxmode text, remove quiet, splash, vt options) but it doesn't give any more debug. I don't know if the problem is in grub or in the kernel. It's really odd that it works sometimes - I haven't spotted a pattern to that yet. I've attached a video of the boot process (I'd added an extra line to the grub script to make it print "Booting..." after loading the initial ramdisk, but that doesn't make a difference to whether it works or not). Sorry about the focus - phone cameras don't like big blank spaces. Happy to try more debug options, but have limited time so might not be quick to respond. Asus Zenbook 14, in case that makes a difference. > I doubt this package is still maintained. You shouldn't, as it is quite actively maintained. Here's a 1-click check of that for you: https://github.com/Guake/guake/pulse We don't actively monitor distribution support though, and are not really familiar with various package update policies. In particular, as Gaetan said just above, we don't usually do any backports -- because the mainline (master branch) version supports Ubuntu back to 16.04. So until someone like @adamyang pokes us, we might even *not be aware* that there're major issues with the version distributed in repositories. To spare more word fight, let's just note this fact: https://github.com/Guake/guake/releases/tag/3.0.6 Guake version 3.0.6 has been released, already a month ago. [Bug 1827697] [NEW] Enroll key whiptail prompt blocks kernel header package upgrades
Public bug reported: I noticed that sometimes the system upgrade is blocked in the kernel header package's configure phase, in the process manager I found that it is blocked by the "Configuring Secure Boot" whiptail prompt started by `update-secureboot-policy --enroll-key` which doesn't surface to the terminal and hence not interactable.
