[Bug 1821269] Re: [Aspire ES1-131, Realtek ALC255, Mic, Internal] No autoswitch (4-pole combo jack mic doesn't detect)

2019-05-23 Thread Ji-min Hong
I installed oem-audio-hda-daily-dkms_0.1_all.deb
And rebooted my PC and plugged in apple earset.
But earset's mic doesn't work too.

compressed.zip contains 3 files.

20190523-00
: Ubuntu sound setting screenshot. "내부마이크" is laptop's internal mic. And
earset's mic doesn't appear.
20190523-01
: I installed "PulseAudio Volume Control" package. When I installed
oem-audio-xxx.deb, "Mic(unplugged)" is added. I changed to this from
내부마이크(internal mic). but it operated like laptop's internal mic.

As a result, the earset's mic does not work.

alsa-info.txt.ALf0UgderM
: This is new "alsa-info.txt" file.
Please check it.

I'll remove oem-audio-hda-daily-dkms_0.1_all.deb package.
Thank you.

[Bug 1830268] Re: libvirt caches nested vmx capability (in domcapabilities)

2019-05-23 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Hi,
it didn't let me calm down that we had the qemu QMP reporting VMX as off.
I mean I have heard (there never was an Ubuntu bug, but people on IRC have run
into it) of issues that people needed to regen capabilities.
After checking the logs of yesterday I found the trap that you laid for me :-)
When checking QMP we were on a system that really had
  $ cat /sys/module/kvm_intel/parameters/nested
  N
So the bit in the cpuid was off.
But when we made the cross check with the cpuid tool we were on a different
system, probably with
  $ cat /sys/module/kvm_intel/parameters/nested
  Y
But the caps cache not regenerated. Hence there the tool reported the bit to be
set.

That red herring put aside I can let go my confusion and focus on what is
ahead, as discussed on IRC we might want to look into :
a) verifying the triggers for a reload today properly working (e.g. new qemu
binary)
b) consider adding more triggers (maybe: libvirtd restart, module load times,
surely: reboot)

Not sure if that will be today or next week.
But with manually cleaning the /var/cache/libvirt/qemu/capabilities/ gives you
a workaround until then.

[Bug 1830225] Re: X server crashes and restarts

2019-05-23 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To
help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921,
reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

Thanks Paolo. I pushed a test build to ppa:dannf/cma. This bumps cma
to 32M, but would also be good to know the results w/ cma=64M on the
cmdline.

[Bug 1830000] Re: NVIDIA driver (390) does not allow progress to login screen

2019-05-23 Thread Dan Kortschak
Note that I'm not suggesting that it be altered mechanically, but rather
than a warning be written that it may not be what is wanted (note also
that this issue is not about nouveau drivers but NVidia-provided
drivers).

If I'd seen a warning like that on doing `ubuntu-drivers autoinstall`,
this issue would probably not have been filed.

[Bug 1830197] Re: e1000e driver - uploading slowed to a crawl.

2019-05-23 Thread DiagonalArg
** Changed in: linux-hwe (Ubuntu)
   Status: Incomplete => Confirmed

** Description changed:

I have a Thinkpad T520 and a W520, both with the same ethernet device,
  Intel 82579LM.

When the T520 is running under Windows, speedtest reports ~0.93Gb down &
~1.05Gb up, so the hardware is good. Under Ubuntu 18.04, kernel
  4.15.0-50, I get ~0.7Gb down but only a very reporoducible 4.15Mb (!)
up. The W520 responds the same.

  e1000e is version 3.2.6-K and e1000 is version 7.3.21-k8-NAPI.

Note that I also have a Thinkpad T530 which has the same Intel 82579LM
and is running the same e1000 and e1000e driver versions, but under
Ubuntu 16.04 (kernel 4.4.0-146). That is giving me ~.7Gb down and
- ~0.33Gb up.
+ ~0.33Gb up. Better, but still definitely 1/3 of link capacity.

I have tried a number of attempted solutions which have had no effect:

ethtool -K eth0 gso off gro off tso off
ethtool -K eth0 tx off rx off
  ethtool -G eth0 tx 256 rx 256
  ethtool -G eth0 tx 8096 rx 8096
  ethtool --set-eee eth0 eee off; ethtool --set-eee eth0 advertise 0
Turning off ASPM in BIOS and via the kernel parameter pcie_aspm=off

Note also that I also have a Dell Optiplex 980 with an 82578DM running
- CentOS which had the same problem (4Mb up). Turning off ASPM in BIOS
+ CentOS which had a similar problem (4.8Mb up). Turning off ASPM in BIOS
partially corrected the issue there. I now have speeds very similar to
  the Thinkpad T530 (~0.7Gb down, ~0.35Gb up)

I also note that there is another issue with this driver that was never
  resolved: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1766377

Finally, I tried to install the most recent version of the e1000 and e1000e
drivers, but they do not compile under Ubuntu 18.04:
  https://sourceforge.net/p/e1000/bugs/643/

Note also that you are using an Nvidia P1000 GPU (very new) with the
nouveau driver. To the best of my knowledge that doesn't work at all for
other people (bug 1822026).

You might get a better result using the proprietary Nvidia driver:

[Bug 1830000] Re: NVIDIA driver (390) does not allow progress to login screen

2019-05-23 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Yes and no...

Occasionally someone will have an Nvidia-only desktop (or similar old
laptop). Or they may have a very new laptop that the Linux kernel
doesn't support properly yet. In such a case, using 'nomodeset' can be a
life saver. Especially given the spotty stability and hardware support
of the nouveau (modesetting) driver. Sometimes you just have to turn it
off.

Hi,

We have also experience the bug with 4.4.0-146 and 4.4.0-148 on 2
systems. We confirm 143 and older does not seem to be affected.

[Bug 1818974] Re: Ubuntu 18.04 Kernel 4.18 - Standby wakeup user session crash

2019-05-23 Thread Martin Dünkelmann via ubuntu-bugs
Very weird.
I detached the awake laptop from my docking station, then i worked with it
without attached power supply.
I watched something without using my laptop.
My laptop turned into standby.
Then I woke it up and the screen was just black, but the power LED indicated a
awake laptop.
Only a forced shutdown by pressing the power button until ended this bug.

Steps to reproduce:

I updated the FF 58 Nightly build from the Oct 23rd, 2017 release to the
new version from the 24th and/or higher. I thought this was a mistake,
but it is still broken.

Actual results:

The default bookmark location is overwritten to "Other bookmarks" a sub
folder which is hard to access and forces me to change the folder I want
to save to manually every single time, ruining the usability by adding a
unecessary extra clicks.

Expected results:

Leave the default bookmark location as "Bookmark menu" as it always has
been or implement an about:config preference or setting that allows me
to change the default bookmark location to any folder I please.

If it's too hard for you to access now, you may want to try to use
"Bookmarks Mane" button, instead of "Library" button. You could also use
Bookmarks Sidebar.

Are you seriously suggesting me I need to install more extensions
because a feature that worked for 13 years was broken? I use FF since
2004 and usually people here can be reasoned with, I am asking for some
common sense. The "Other Bookmarks" folder always has been a nuisance.

This feels more like involuntarily coercing the user into using it. I
can create my own "temp" folder, I don't need Mozilla to do it and I
don't want to be forced to do so. I want to talk to a different Mozilla
dev and this needs to be re-opened.

This change will allow more easily to change the default folder through a pref.
Though, that bug doesn't exist, so maybe we could convert this one to cover

Preference for this unfortunately doesn't exist, yet.

I never assumed this, that it's too hard for you to configure things.
I simply wrote reply with some easy "workarounds":

[Bug 1828641] Re: Xenial, Bionic, Cosmic revert ubuntu-advantage-tools config module changes from tip

2019-05-23 Thread Chad Smith
SRU verification of ubuntu-advantage retained behavior.

bionic expected success
cosmic expected fail (invalid platform)
disco expected fail (known bug)

** Description changed:

  == Begin SRU Template ==
  [Impact]
Ubuntu-advantage-tools package version 19 introduced a new command line
client that is backwards incompatible with previous ubuntu-advantage-tools
releases.

Changes in cloud-init 19.1 support only the new ubuntu-advantage-tools
  CLI.

To avoid breaking the cc_ubuntu_advantage cloud-config module, we need
to revert changes in cloud-init tip to avoid tracebacks for customers in
Xenial, Bionic and Cosmic using ubuntu-advantage: declarating in their
  cloud-config.

Once ubuntu-advantage-tools >= 19 is SRU'd to Xenial, Bionic and Cosmic.
This debian patch can be dropped.

[Bug 1755629] Re: ephemeral-disk-warning yields /mnt 0444 immutable on package update when /mnt is bind-mounted

2019-05-23 Thread technicianted
This bug is hitting our clusters hard especially when dynamically adding
nodes. In this case, container workloads that use /mnt are scheduled on
the new nodes before walinuxagent is updated causing corruption of attrs
and perms of /mnt, and potentially file/folder underneath.

Workaround to fix attrs and perms whenever walinuxagent is updated is a
bit of a hack and does not immediately solve the problem when it
initially happens.

As an after thought. This could be mitigated by having the nvidia

[Bug 1668771] Re: systemd-resolved negative caching for extended period of time

2019-05-23 Thread James Hebden
This is especially upsetting in an OpenStack and server environment
where external DNS is being used to reach/resolve API endpoints and
other systems such as database servers. A small outage to DNS becomes a
potentially unbounded outage when the SERVFAIL responses are cached
indefinitely, requiring manual intervention on each host in addition to
fixing the cause of the SERVFAIL.

[Bug 1668771] Re: systemd-resolved negative caching for extended period of time

2019-05-23 Thread Drew Freiberger
This affects bionic openstack cloud environments when os-*-hostname is
configured for keystone, and the keystone entry is deleted temporarily
from upstream dns, or the upstream dns fails providing no record for the
lookup of keystone.endpoint.domain.com.

We have to then flush all caches across the cloud once DNS issue is
resolved, rather than auto-healing at 60 seconds as if we were running
nscd with negative-ttl set to 60 seconds.

Ultimately, a negative TTL that is settable would be ideal, or the
ability to not cache negative hits would also be useful. Only
workaround now is to not use caches or to operationally flush caches as
needed.

That is giving me ~.7Gb down and
  ~0.33Gb up.

I have tried a number of attempted solutions which have had no effect:

ethtool -K eth0 gso off gro off tso off
ethtool -K eth0 tx off rx off
  ethtool -G eth0 tx 256 rx 256
  ethtool -G eth0 tx 8096 rx 8096
+ ethtool --set-eee eth0 eee off; ethtool --set-eee eth0 advertise 0
Turning off ASPM in BIOS and via the kernel parameter pcie_aspm=off

Note also that I also have a Dell Optiplex 980 with an 82578DM running
CentOS which had the same problem (4Mb up). Turning off ASPM in BIOS
partially corrected the issue there. I now have speeds very similar to
  the Thinkpad T530 (~0.7Gb down, ~0.35Gb up)

I also note that there is another issue with this driver that was never
  resolved: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1766377

Finally, I tried to install the most recent version of the e1000 and e1000e
drivers, but they do not compile under Ubuntu 18.04:
  https://sourceforge.net/p/e1000/bugs/643/

[Bug 1829292] Re: exim4 doesn't run the local_scan function after upgrade to 19.04

2019-05-23 Thread Bryce Harrington
** Description changed:

  [Impact]
Regression causing breakage of spam filtering for Exim4 users when using
sa-exim for spamassassin integration.
-

  [Test Case]
  TBD

  [Regression Potential]
- Low. The 'local_scan' function was removed due to concerns it might allow
rewriting of emails in invalid situations. However, this risk has been equally
present in previous exim4 releases thus does not create any new issues, just
restores behavior to what it has been in the past.
+ Low.

- This is the only major change in debian right now (the only other change
- being a README note).
+ The 'local_scan' function was removed due to concerns it might allow
+ rewriting of emails in invalid situations. However, this risk has been
+ equally present in previous exim4 releases Ubuntu has shipped, thus does
+ not create any new issues, just restores behavior to what it has been in
+ the past.

+ This is not a default behavior, so whether it is enabled or not should
+ have no impact on "regular" exim4 users.

  [Discussion]
Upstream dropped support for a 'local_scan' function in 4.92, that sa-exim
requires; Debian restored support for this capability in 4.92-7, but disco is
shipping 4.92-4ubuntu1 without the restored support.

The reason upstream dropped the support was out of concern that changes
in how emails are handled internally will break rewriting in certain
circumstances. Unfortunately this breaks compatibility with sa-exim,
which uses local_scan to do spamassassin checking to reject spam emails
  pre-acceptance.
+
+ This SRU is a one-line change to enable HAVE_LOCAL_SCAN in exim4's
+ template configuration file, "EDITME". Ubuntu has already been carrying
+ the 90_localscan_dlopen.dpatch that implements the necessary
+ functionality, however due to upstream changes it is now necessary to
+ define HAVE_LOCAL_SCAN in the local config (it is off by default). With
+ this change, the functionality of 90_localscan_dlopen.dpatch will again
+ be effective.

  [Original Report]
It seems like after upgrade to 19.04 that exim is not running the local_scan
function (in my case the sa-exim /usr/lib/exim4/local_scan/sa-exim.so)

So I now don't have the spam-scan I am used to(I have enabled scanning
by the way of an RCPT_ACL for now)

Hope this can fixed despite sa-exim being very old
