[Bug 1797386] Re: [SRU] OpenSSL 1.1.1 to 18.04 LTS

2019-05-24 Thread Steve Langasek
Hello Dimitri, or anyone else affected,

Accepted ruby2.5 into bionic-proposed. The package will build now and be
available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ruby2.5/2.5.1-1ubuntu1.4 in a few
hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested and change the tag from
verification-needed-bionic to verification-done-bionic. If it does not
fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the
tag to verification-failed-bionic. In either case, without details of
your testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

** Changed in: ruby2.5 (Ubuntu Bionic)
   Status: Confirmed => Fix Committed

[Bug 1815626] Re: [SRU] Update geary to bug-fix release 0.12.4 in Bionic

2019-05-24 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
The changelog in the now rejected upload to bionic-proposed claimed to
fix bug #1779574. Well, it would not have done so. Actually it would
have resulted in geary being shipped untranslated. It's not practicable
to enable Ubuntu's language packs retroactively.

Attached please find my proposed modifications compared to the debdiff
added in comment #3. With those mods the translations won't be stripped,
and bug #1779574 will be really fixed.

Whenever the package is re-uploaded to bionic-proposed, please take
these changes into account.

2019-05-24 Thread Steve Langasek
"Other safe cases" mentions:

FTBFS(Fails To Build From Source) can also be considered. Please note
that in main the release process ensures that there are no binaries
which are not built from a current source. Usually those bugs should
only be SRUed in conjunction with another bug fix.

When this was written, autopkgtests did not exist. I think it would be
reasonable to extend the policy to include autopkgtests by analogy.

However, as this says, "usually those bugs should only be SRUed in
conjunction with another bug fix". When there is no history of
regressions being introduced in this package as a result of NOT having
autopkgtests in place, I don't think we should do an SRU only to add a
working test.

I won't mark these bugs wontfix, but I am rejecting the upload in the
meantime until there is another change needed to the package that would
warrant an SRU.

[Bug 1830454] [NEW] Under memory pressure, graphics load may freeze the system

2019-05-24 Thread Leonardo Müller
Public bug reported:

When the system is under memory pressure (400 MB available from 8 GB and
600 MB swap usage), certain graphics workloads can freeze the system.
Apparently, the system continues working, as sounds play normally.
However, most programs seem to freeze, the screen no longer updates, nor
the mouse moves, nor the keyboard lights from Num Lock, Caps Lock and
Scroll Lock work.

In the last crash I was playing Elite Dangerous using Steam Play with
DXVK and was in a Discord call in Opera Developer. When the system
froze, I was still able to talk and hear in the call and pressing
Alt+PrintScreen+S allowed the disk to sync, as the hard disk could be
heard and the syslog was saved.

The pattern to have this is to be under memory pressure and have a heavy
graphics workload.

If the conditions are met, then this may happen. This is a rare event,
but it seems to be impossible to recover when it happens as it seems to
be impossible to remove the i915 module, even using the force options.

[Bug 1829588] Re: make it easy to add proposed; help text outdated

2019-05-24 Thread Seth Arnold
** Description changed:

- I want to do some SRU testing but I have to look up how to add the
- -proposed lines to apt sources every time I want to do this task. The
- wiki page for it is pretty verbose and includes text like: "Replace
- "xenial" with "trusty", "vivid", "utopic", "precise", or "lucid"
- depending on which release you are on. "
-
Adding -proposed should be as easy as running:

  sudo add-apt-repository proposed

  But this doesn't work:
  $ sudo add-apt-repository proposed
  Error: 'proposed' invalid

- The help text includes a bunch of examples of things that users almost
- never need to do any more:
+ It'd be nice if add-apt-repository could work for all of:

- $ add-apt-repository -h
- [...]
- Examples:
- apt-add-repository 'deb http://myserver/path/to/repo stable myrepo'
- apt-add-repository 'http://myserver/path/to/repo myrepo'
- apt-add-repository 'https://packages.medibuntu.org free non-free'
- apt-add-repository http://extras.ubuntu.com/ubuntu
- apt-add-repository ppa:user/repository
- apt-add-repository ppa:user/distro/repository
- apt-add-repository multiverse
+ - adding main
+ - adding restricted
+ - adding universe
+ - adding multiverse
+ - adding partners

-
- https://packages.medibuntu.org is now owned by a commerce site, or squatter,
or something similar. It also fails certificate validation. This should be
removed.
-
- http://extras.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/ has precise through utopic. Maybe
- we shouldn't remove this yet, but someday we may want to revisit this
- one.
-
- It'd be great to have examples of adding proposed, universe, security,
- updates, etc.
-
- Maybe it'd be nice to put a reference to whatever tool would also enable
- ESM.
+ - adding proposed
+ - adding security
+ - adding universe

  Thanks

[Bug 1829588] Re: make it easy to add proposed; help text outdated

2019-05-24 Thread Seth Arnold
The wiki page does have the software properties method documented:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed

I don't have software-properties-gtk installed (and until now didn't
know the name of the command to launch it), so apt-add-repository was my
first attempt.

Thanks

Re: [Bug 1713435] Re: package openssh-server 1:7.2p2-4ubuntu2.2 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2019-05-24 Thread Michael Terranova
Dear Mr Arnold,
Forgive my late response. Yesterday I returned to googling this error
message. Before I had been daunted but this time I found information that
solved my problem, the final suggestion on this discussion:
https://askubuntu.com/questions/1109934/ssh-server-stops-working-after-reboot-caused-by-missing-var-run-sshd/1110843#1110843

Briefly, ssh-server on my system was failing to create a necessary
temporary folder /var/run/sshd, because somehow I had changed ownership of
the root folder, '/', from root:root to a local-user & group. Changing it
back root:root fixed my system. I know exactly how this happened. I had
created a script to change ownership on contents in a shared folder after
root users (puppy linux) added items to it. I probably accidentally ran
this from a terminal in the wrong location / instead of
/mnt/somesharedfolder

Returning to this bug link, it looks like it had expired even before I
commented on it. I appreciate that you responded to it anyway. Is there
anything I should do now, to close something I had opened, or maybe to
leave a final comment explaining how it was resolved in my case?
Thanks
Michael

[Bug 1458014] Re: audit_printk_skb slowing down boot

2019-05-24 Thread Seth Arnold
pito, it'd probably be best to head to https://askubuntu.com/ or #ubuntu
on irc.freenode.net to try to figure out where exactly your slow
performance is coming from.

Install the systemd-bootchart package, then at grub's kernel command
line, add init=/lib/systemd/systemd-bootchart

Attach the stripchart to the bug report.

Thanks

2019-05-24 Thread Seth Arnold
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Bug 1811571] Re: [SRU] Update to maintenance release 2.2.4 in Bionic

2019-05-24 Thread Steve Langasek
Hello Amr, or anyone else affected,

Accepted lyx into bionic-proposed. The package will build now and be
available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lyx/2.2.4-0ubuntu0.18.04.1 in a few
hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested and change the tag from
verification-needed-bionic to verification-done-bionic. If it does not
fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the
tag to verification-failed-bionic. In either case, without details of
your testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

[Bug 1830449] [NEW] Power control panel does not provide suspend on lid close dependent on battery power

2019-05-24 Thread Dan Kortschak
Public bug reported:

In previous versions of Ubuntu (16.04) it was possible to set an
automatic suspend on laptop lid closure when the laptop was battery
powered, but not when on mains. This is no longer available; automatic
suspend provided by the power control panel is purely time-based. The
gnome tweak tool does offer a lid-based suspend trigger, but this is
independent of power source.

[Bug 1830448] [NEW] gnome shell does not respect "Photos: Do nothing" for removable media

2019-05-24 Thread Dan Kortschak
Public bug reported:

Setting "Photos: Do nothing" in the removable media panel of the gnome
control center had no effect in that inserting a removable volume with
photos/video (GoPro SD card) results in Shotwell being opened. The only
way to prevent this from happening is to check "Never prompt or start
programs on media insertion" which then prevents convenient starting of
e.g. DVD playing.

[Bug 1830445] [NEW] package python3.6 3.6.8-1~18.10 failed to install/upgrade: installed python3.6 package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 127

2019-05-24 Thread Harel Malka
Public bug reported:

This is after a reinstall of python 3.6.
The reason this was reinstalled is trying to fix an upgrade error with
do-release-upgrade (or with the gui) resulting in a python3 symlink corrupted
error. This is with default python 3.6 of ubuntu 18.10.

$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 18.10
Release:18.10

$ apt-cache policy python3.6
python3.6:
  Installed: 3.6.8-1~18.10
  Candidate: 3.6.8-1~18.10
  Version table:

Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
 3.6.7~rc1-1 500
500 http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu cosmic/main amd64 Packages

This happened without any intervention from me - just a random error and report
request.
However, this is the result of what is described above and in more details:

1. Attempted to upgrade to 19.04 via software centre and cmd line, always with
this error:

Reading cache

Checking package manager

Cannot upgrade

Your python3 install is corrupted. Please fix the '/usr/bin/python3'
symlink.

Note that python3 is the default 3.6, it was never changed. Symlink was fine.

Followed good and bad advice. Last one was the first comment here;
https://dev1galaxy.org/viewtopic.php?id=649

The result was a messed up python symlink, which overwrote the binary.

Removed, reinstalled and this error just popped up. Technically so far
things work though but i still cannot upgrade.

[Bug 1830444] [NEW] IPv4 does not provide "Shared to other computers" method

2019-05-24 Thread Dan Kortschak
Public bug reported:

In previous versions of Ubuntu (16.04 and before), it was possible to
specify the IPv4 method to use "Shared to other computers" directly from
the top bar (via the via the nm-connection-editor/nm-applet).

This ability is no longer available via the preferred network
configuration panel in the gnome control center, i.e. without invoking
either nm-connection-editor directly or via the nm-applet (which then
doubles up the network controls in the top bar).

[Bug 1815626] Re: [SRU] Update geary to bug-fix release 0.12.4 in Bionic

2019-05-24 Thread Steve Langasek
It would be trivial to upload the package with a version number that
sorts properly less than the version in cosmic so that upgrades work
without issue (or even to base this on the cosmic version, since the
changes from 0.12.4-2 and 0.12.4-4 don't seem relevant on bionic). We
also do not want to leave this upload in the queue for months until
cosmic has reached EOL. So I am rejecting this package from the queue
now. It can be reuploaded at any time with a proper version number, or
in July with the same version number.

Ubuntu 18.04 does not ship version 1.16.2 of krb5, it ships version
1.16. So why do you believe bionic is affected by this issue, or why do
you believe the problem you are seeing on 18.04 is this issue?

[Bug 1830441] [NEW] libkrb5-3 1.16.2 can crash client programs

2019-05-24 Thread Mitchell Sternke
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu Release: 18.04.2 LTS
Package: libkrb5-3 1.16.2

The libkrb5-3 package (MIT Kerberos library) shipped with Ubuntu 18.04.2 has a
known bug which can cause a program using the library to crash when using
MEMORY ccaches. This was introduced as a regression in version 1.16.2 of the
MIT kerberos library, and fixed in 1.16.3.
Regression ticket: https://krbdev.mit.edu/rt/Ticket/Display.html?id=8771
Release notes for 1.16.3 (see "Fix a regression"):
https://web.mit.edu/kerberos/krb5-1.16/

Can the libkrb5-3 package be updated to version 1.16.3 for the Ubuntu
18.04 release series? We have software (not part of Ubuntu) that uses
MEMORY ccaches extensively and it is impacted by this bug.

[Bug 1830189] Re: last update: I got microcode for an Intelprocessor.

2019-05-24 Thread Brian Murray
Rather than including a screenshot it'd be helpful if you were to
include the whole output of the command Dimitri asked you to run. One
way to do that would be to pipe it to xclip and then paste it, using
middle mouse, into the bug report. So:

dmesg | grep microcode | xclip

[Bug 1804314] Re: Wrong WARNING Option 'hash' missing in crypttab

2019-05-24 Thread Jamie Scott
Ah! I followed the same guide, as I also wanted manual disk encryption
so I could dual boot and ran into the same issue.

The fix above works for me too, after specifying `UUID=xxx` you only
need `none luks` and nothing in any of the other 2 files mentioned.

Many thanks!

[Bug 1731417] Re: Installed network printer removed automatically when turned off

2019-05-24 Thread Till Kamppeter
The 1.23.0-1 version got uploaded to the development of 19.10 (Eoan).
For getting it into an already released Ubuntu version, a Stable Release
Update (SRU) would be needed. But note that if you are still using 18.10
(Cosmic), that in a few months (end-July) the support for Cosmic ends,
so SRUs for this version do not make much sense. So I recommend you to
upgrade to 19.04 (Disco) and try whether the problem still persists for
you and report back here.

[Bug 1830433] [NEW] 32-bit x86 kernel 4.15.0-50 crash in vmalloc_sync_all

2019-05-24 Thread Mathieu Desnoyers
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I'm reproducing a kernel bug in vmalloc_sync_all() with a 32-bit x86
kernel.

The problem appears in

Linux ubuntu 4.15.0-50-generic #54-Ubuntu SMP Mon May 6 18:45:45 UTC
2019 i686 i686 i686 GNU/Linux

Kernels 4.15.0-49 and prior work fine.
The kernel 4.18.0-20-generic works fine.
This problem has not been experienced with upstream Linux kernels.

It appears that invoking vmalloc_sync_all() a few times end up
triggering this issue. This can be triggered by restarting the lttng-
sessiond service with lttng-modules-dkms installed (sometimes a few
restarts are needed to trigger the bug). This ends up unloading and
reloading those modules, which issues a few vmalloc_sync_all() as side-
effect.

I'm not reporting this issue with the "ubuntu-bug linux" command because
it crashes the system on that kernel (system hangs, no console output).

My test system runs within a kvm virtual machine on a 64-bit host.

[Bug 1828282]

2019-05-24 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
Nice!

It is valgrind clean now, but the testsuite fails:

$ ./bunzip2.tests
PASS: bunzip2: doesnt exist
PASS: bunzip2: unknown suffix
PASS: bunzip2: already exists
PASS: bunzip2: stream unpack
PASS: bunzip2: delete src
PASS: bunzip2: test_bz2 file
PASS: bunzip2: pbzip_4m_zeros file
PASS: bunzip2: bz2_issue_11.bz2 corrupted example
FAIL: bunzip2: bz2_issue_12.bz2 corrupted example

Maybe, now that this is fixed, the issue_12 expectation should be
changed?

It currently expects "bunzip2: bunzip error -3:1", yet we now generate
"bunzip2: bunzip error -5:1" (just like issue_11 corrupted example)

[Bug 1830431] [NEW] linking arm libc instead of thumb for Cortex-M3

2019-05-24 Thread Jérôme Hamm
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I am using Ubuntu 18.04 arm-none-eabi-gcc (15:6.3.1+svn253039-1build1)
6.3.1 20170620 and it looks like the selected libc is the ARM one, not
the THUMB one. I first detected this through a BUS FAULT which upon
investigation and disassembly (the .lss file) looks like arm code.
Moreover I tried the following commands:

> arm-none-eabi-gcc -mthumb -mcpu=cortex-m3 --print-file-name=libc.a
/usr/lib/gcc/arm-none-eabi/6.3.1/../../../arm-none-eabi/lib/libc.a
^^^ I have seen in another post that when some guy types the same command line
(although for a Cortex-M4), he gets 'thumb' somewhere in the returned path.

> arm-none-eabi-gcc -mthumb -mcpu=cortex-m3 --print-multi-directory
thumb/v7-m

Other libs (for example function __eabi__uidiv) look like thumb code.

I have used
> sudo apt install gcc-arm-none-eabi

More information:
> sudo dpkg -l | grep gcc-arm-none-eabi
ii gcc-arm-none-eabi 15:6.3.1+svn253039-1build1 amd64 GCC cross compiler for
ARM Cortex-A/R/M processors
