[Bug 1831345] Re: Attribute-Editor is missing when enabling Advanced Features in RSAT

2019-06-04 Thread Andreas Hasenack
I browsed the WHATSNEW.txt file looking for something to indicate how
and when this was addressed, but didn't find it. Would you be able to
take a look, since you are more familiar with this feature?

Here are some links:
https://github.com/samba-team/samba/blob/v4-7-test/WHATSNEW.txt
https://github.com/samba-team/samba/blob/v4-8-test/WHATSNEW.txt
https://github.com/samba-team/samba/blob/v4-9-test/WHATSNEW.txt
https://github.com/samba-team/samba/blob/v4-10-stable/WHATSNEW.txt

If we find when it changed, then we can check how big of a change it is
and evaluate this bug better.

Thanks!

[Bug 1831345] Re: Attribute-Editor is missing when enabling Advanced Features in RSAT

2019-06-04 Thread Martin Wolf
No, it is a bug.
The Attribute-Editor is an essential part of an active directoy.

Take a look here:
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Maintaining_Unix_Attributes_in_AD_using_ADUC

This screenshot is pretty old since the "Unix-Attributes" next to the
"Attribute Editor" has been deprecated with Windows Server 2016.

[Bug 1359836] Re: Ubuntu ISOs downloaded insecurely, over HTTP rather than HTTPS

2019-06-04 Thread TJ
Additional, more positive, discussion.

12:59 or just relax the policy and let us get LE certs outselves, just
like for all the other names
13:00 maybe we could do that if we registered a new domain name
13:01 I'll bring it up again soon
13:03 the problem is we round robin mirrors under country-specific
domains...not sure how we would handle that
13:04 (not that I've thought about it, the people who are
responsible for it have)
13:04 yeah, that's why I like the mirrorbits solution for image
downloads, it makes the mirror name much less important and you can probably
drop *.releases.u.c. archive is another matter and will be more complicated,
especially since those are in long-term config files
13:05 hrm, good point, may be worth separating those two and just
doing the image downloads somehow first
13:07 there's also the issue that we don't trust half the mirrors in
the list, so just using ssl doesn't do much to improve security
13:08 yeah, that's another reason why I like mirrorbits serving up the
checksum in the redirector, not relying on downloading the checksum file from
the mirror
13:10 I need to look into that

[Bug 1359836] Re: Ubuntu ISOs downloaded insecurely, over HTTP rather than HTTPS

2019-06-04 Thread TJ
Followed up on this today. No joy. IRC log from #ubuntu-hardened:

12:37 Could we revisit Bug #1359836 ? At the very least the checksum
files should require HTTPS because most new users have no idea (nor sometimes,
facility) to verify using GPG - think Windows users coming to Ubuntu. This
affects both {releases,cdimage}.ubuntu.com
12:37 bug 1359836 in Ubuntu "Ubuntu ISOs downloaded insecurely, over
HTTP rather than HTTPS" [Undecided,Confirmed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/1359836
12:40 our mirror is happy to serve them over https, as long as the
name ftp.acc.umu.se and not se.releases.ubuntu.com is used
12:41 maswan: yes, several mirrors are using HTTPS but I'd think most
users will download them via the ubuntu.com domain
12:44 yeah
12:45 my favourite suggestion is to run a central mirrorbits instance
that serves checksum files directly over https and then redirects to http[s]
sources
12:46 but it is not me running the services, so it is just a suggestion
12:47 Last time I discussed this, maybe in canonical-sysadmin, the reply
was bascially "our infrastructure is complicated and HTTPS would require
expensive resources"
12:47 My view is it is a CODB (cost of doing business) if Canonical wants
to be taken seriously
12:52 Yeah. My mirrorbits solution would around to encourage more use
of [verified good] mirrors to offset the direct costs a bit
12:54 Something like https://download.lineageos.org/star2lte
12:55 TJ-: that is still the case as far as I understand it - TLS
overhead is non-trivial CPU time and cost-wise, plus the existing mirror system
of xx.archive.ubuntu.com pointing to 3rd-party hosted mirrors would mean
Canonical has to give certs to 3rd parties which are trusted (to allow to use
xx.archive.canonical.com) which is difficult
12:55 TJ-: we brought this up again a few months ago and we got
updates quotes, and it was still cost prohibitive
12:56 mdeslaur: can we get that added to the bug report then?
12:56 I'm just the messenger, and am not involved at all in that
12:57 mdeslaur: right, but whoever is responsible, since it is certainly
a security issue
12:58 I can ask next time

[Bug 1831605] [NEW] snapd-2.39-1 Makes Fedora 30 Unresponsive

2019-06-04 Thread Francesco
Public bug reported:

Upgrading snapd to version 2.39-1 in my Fedora 30 caused the system to
be almost completely unresponsive.

The login screen took few minutes to appear, the keyboard layout on the
login screen was not the UK one any more (though it was correct in any
future lockscreen), the lockscreens were taking a minute to show the
password prompt after pressing any button.

I've downgraded all snapd packages to the previous version (available
through the repos) and all problems are gone.

`sudo dnf install snap-confine-2.38-2.fc30 snapd-2.38-2.fc30 snapd-
selinux-2.38-2.fc30`

I have a pretty standard installation of Fedora 30.
selinux is enabled (enforcing)

Every package is updated

** Affects: snapd (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1828617] Re: Hosts randomly 'losing' disks, breaking ceph-osd service enumeration

2019-06-04 Thread Corey Bryant
Do you have access to the /var/log/ceph/ceph-volume-systemd.log after
the latest reboot? That should give us some details such as:

"[2019-05-31 20:43:44,334][systemd][WARNING] failed to find db volume,
retries left: 17"

or similar for wal volume.

If you see that the retries have been exceeded in your case you can tune
them (the new loops are using the same env vars):

http://docs.ceph.com/docs/mimic/ceph-volume/systemd/#failure-and-retries

As for the pvscan issue, I'm not sure if that is a ceph issue (?).

[Bug 1831599] [NEW] No display activity when coming out of powersave ("kernel BUG at mm/slub.c:296!")

2019-06-04 Thread luca_ing
Public bug reported:

Since a few weeks, my displays won't wake up from display powersave. The
machine stays responsive via SSH.

This first occurred on Ubuntu 18.04, and keeps happening on 18.10 (which
I had updated to in the hopes of fixing the issue that way).

The only escape I've found from this state is via magic SysRq.

It can be triggered reliably by waiting for the screensaver to kick in
(e.g. overnight).

[Bug 1831502] Re: package initramfs-tools-ubuntu-core 0.7.45 failed to install/upgrade: Trigger bilden eine Schleife, aufgegeben

2019-06-04 Thread Mike Salvatore
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Bug 1831514] Re: Ubuntu 19.04 system update causes boot failure

2019-06-04 Thread peterzay
>Do you mean that after applying those updates you don't get to the login
>screen anymore?
correct

>Can you reproduce after a new install and upgrading again?
The boot failure occurs on step 5. This is reproducible.

>Can you boot to a command line using the recovery option
I tried to boot holding the left shift key but I did not get grub2. I did get
4 red dots instead of 3 on the Ubuntu splash screen. Do you have another
procedure to suggest?

>Try this as a workaround: edit /etc/gdm3/custom.conf ...
The system is unusable.

When doing a fresh install from a USB key to reproduce this bug, you
should be offered to erase or install alongside the existing OS. In
this case, you are ONLY offered to erase. Curious.

[Bug 1831544] Re: fixit

2019-06-04 Thread Mike Salvatore
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Bug 722201] Re: CTDB port is not aware of Ubuntu-specific NFS Settings

2019-06-04 Thread Rafael David Tinoco
For this last "ss" syntax issue, I have opened a bug in samba upstream
project and the most important comment, that explains what is happening,
is this one:

BUG: https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13985

COMMENT: https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13985#c4

"""
Hello Martin,

E, that puzzled me now, my workstation is a debian sid and, for
obvious reasons, all my development environment is Ubuntu... I re-
checked "ss" execution in Debian and it worked :\, went back to Ubuntu
Eoan and it didn't.

inaddy@workstation:~$ ss -tn state established '( src [172.16.0.3] || src
[172.16.0.3] ) ( sport == :22 )' | small

0 0 172.16.0.3:22 172.16.0.6:53587
...

(k)inaddy@ctdbserver01:~$ ss -tn state established '( src [172.16.0.3] || src
[172.16.0.3] ) ( sport == :22 )' | small
ss: bison bellows (while parsing filter): "syntax error!" Sorry.
Usage: ss [ OPTIONS ]
   ss [ OPTIONS ] [ FILTER ]
   -h, --help this message
   -V, --version output version information
-n, --numeric don't resolve service names
   -r, --resolve resolve host names
   -a, --all display all sockets
...

Checking different versions:

inaddy@workstation:~$ rmadison iproute2 | awk '{print $1 $2 $3 $4 $5}'

inaddy@workstation:~$ rmad iproute2 | awk '{print $1 $2 $3 $4 $5}'

iproute2|4.15.0-2ubuntu1|bionic
iproute2|4.18.0-1ubuntu2~ubuntu18.04.1|bionic-backports
iproute2|4.18.0-1ubuntu2|cosmic
iproute2|4.18.0-1ubuntu2|disco
iproute2|4.18.0-1ubuntu2|eoan

Since Ubuntu is using an older version for quite awhile, I think latest
change to this line broke compatibility with older versions. That, per
se, could justify this patch.

commit 04fe9e20749985c71fef1bce7f6e4c439fe11c81
Author: Martin Schwenke
Date: Thu Aug 27 00:22:49 2015

ctdb-scripts: Use ss instead of netstat for finding TCP connections

ss with a filter is much faster than post-processing output from
netstat. CTDB already has a hard dependency on iproute2 for IP
address handling, so depending on ss is no big deal.

Signed-off-by: Martin Schwenke
Reviewed-by: Amitay Isaacs

This is the change that introduced this "ss" code, and, I believe that
this has been broken in Ubuntu since then. Actually I'm not aware that
CTDB ever worked in Ubuntu the way it should, that's why I'm working in
the following Bugs:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/samba/+bug/722201
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/samba/+bug/1821775
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/samba/+bug/1828799
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-server-ha/+bug/1831381
https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13984
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=929931

To make it fully function for Eoan, and backport fixes up to Bionic, *at
least*. Would you mind including this patch so we can have iproute2
backwards compatibility ? (Upgrading iproute2 in Ubuntu would mean re-
certificating a bunch of stuff depending on it, including all openstack
products, etc).

Thanks a lot!

Best Regards,
Rafael

Re: [Bug 1831588] Re: Slow photo saving from Evince to my folder in Nautilus

2019-06-04 Thread Artyom Pozharov
Sorry, but Ubuntu as other Linux distributions is compilation of different
developments. For example, if Ubuntu Desktop freezes, will I write to GNOME
Project? My laptop really can't install system to UEFI because
/dev/sda/grub-install ends with error. Only legacy installation complete
successful. Should I write to GRUB or Linux kernel developers? For example,
if I have error with Ubuntu OS, may be I should write to Debian developers
(because Ubuntu is Debian-based system)?
If you buy a salad in restaurant and it tastes bad, will you complain for
people that grown vegetables or for restaurant that prepared this salad
from vegetables?
