[Bug 1835114] Re: [MIR] ec2-instance-connect

2019-07-03 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Also while thinking about it, ~5-8 curl calls fro every SSH login can be quite
expensive.
I know it fortunately has an early exit but that still is 2 curl requests.

If this is installed in any place without the endpoint at
169.254.169.254 being responsive and super fast this could lead to a
very bad user experience.

Examples:
1. it checks the instance-id via curl, only then locally if it runs on EC2
   I think it really should check that ahead of time

2. (more of a general design issue); doing that on every login feels like a
massive overhead.
   Think of remote configuration management software that expects to run
hundreds of ssh calls
   per second. We were bitten in the past by issues there e.g. slow MOTD
generated on login.
   I really would want all those scripts to do some rate-limiting.
   That is either a full design change away from AuthorizedKeysCommand
(probably too complex),
   or and that might be more doable a rate limit. Let it timestamp itself and
do any execution
   except this check only once per 5 seconds. For an example load with 100
logins per second for
   10 seconds that would drop the overhead from 1000 to 2. And I think it would
be fine to wait 5
   sec for a new key to be active.

@cyphermox can you bring that up with the developers who write on this
as well?

[Bug 1835357] [NEW] Backport ACPI module-level code functionality

2019-07-03 Thread Kai-Heng Feng
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
After S3, DVD-ROM on HP ZBook 17 G5 stops working.

[Fix]
In the past we use dmi_match to set acpi_gbl_parse_table_as_term_list,
so the ACPI core can parse an entire ACPI table as a method.

Unfotunately this workaround doesn't work for the system in question.

So fully backport commit 5a8361f7ecce ("ACPICA: Integrate package
handling with module-level code") and subsequent fix commits, to solve
the issue.

[Test]
After applying the fix, DVD-ROM keeps working after S3.

[Regression Potential]
Medium. I've test several systems and I don't see anything break.
But if we want to be safe, we can merge this into Bionic after we are
sure there's no regression on OEM-B.

[Bug 1833319] Re: Performance degradation when copying from LVM snapshot backed by NVMe disk

2019-07-03 Thread Matthew Ruffell
I enabled enabled -proposed and installed 4.4.0-155.182, and went through the
test case on a c5.large instance on aws. Note, I used the -generic kernel since
-aws doesn't seem to be ready yet.

The problem is solved and performance is the same as non-snapshot
mounted disks.

We can see that merging has been enabled by looking at the flag:

$ cat /sys/block/nvme1n1/queue/nomerges
0

The problem is fixed. Changing tag to verified.

[Bug 1437368] Re: A DAEMON_ARGS="-d" is missing for the corosync-notifyd init script

2019-07-03 Thread Rafael David Tinoco
The "-d" is added in /etc/default/corosync-notifyd nowadays, and that is
taken care in consideration for the sysv scripts:

start-stop-daemon --start --quiet --exec $DAEMON -- $OPTIONS \
|| return 2

and also for the systemd unit file:

[Service]
EnvironmentFile=-/etc/default/corosync-notifyd
ExecStart=/usr/sbin/corosync-notifyd -f $OPTIONS
Type=notify
Restart=on-failure
PrivateTmp=yes

[Bug 768471] Re: corosync segfaults on startup joining another node

2019-07-03 Thread Rafael David Tinoco
Hello Bart, and anyone affected by this, this is an old bug and it is
referring a crash happening in a quite common place (node joining) in a
pretty old version. That is why I've marked this as incomplete last time
(in 2016), since it had no crash file for us to analyse the root cause.

With that in mind, and considering after you marked as confirmed again,
there was nothing added in 3 years, I'm marking this as incomplete again
and I'll be more than happy to help in any crash happening during
corosync initialization. Please feel free to re-open this case (or open
a new one) for a this (or a similar) issue.

Thank you very much

Rafael

[Bug 1835348] [NEW] mm/huge_memory: fix vmf_insert_pfn_{pmd, pud}() crash, handle unaligned addresses

2019-07-03 Thread quanxian
Public bug reported:

Description
Starting with c6f3c5ee40c1 ("mm/huge_memory.c: fix modifying of page
protection by insert_pfn_pmd()") vmf_insert_pfn_pmd() internally calls
pmdp_set_access_flags(). That helper enforces a pmd aligned @address
argument via VM_BUG_ON() assertion.

Update the implementation to take a 'struct vm_fault' argument directly
and apply the address alignment fixup internally to fix crash signatures
like:

[Bug 1835349] [NEW] Fix devm_memremap_pages shutdown handling

2019-07-03 Thread quanxian
Public bug reported:

Description:

> 2) Another process unbinds the underlying p2pdma driver and the devm

> 3) devm_memremap_pages_release() is called and it kills the reference
> and drop's it's last reference.

Oh! Yes, nice find. We need to wait for the percpu-ref to be dead and
all outstanding references dropped before we can proceed to
arch_remove_memory(), and I think this problem has been there since
day one because the final exit was always after devm_memremap_pages()
release which means arch_remove_memory() was always racing any final
put_page(). I'll take a look, it seems the arch_remove_pages() call
needs to be moved out-of-line to its own context and wait for the
final exit of the percpu-ref.

[Bug 1586876] Re: Corosync report "Started" itself too early

2019-07-03 Thread Rafael David Tinoco
We have now migrated to systemd, and this bug is pretty old.
Nevertheless, I would like to check again if this condition would ever
happen in new corosync started by systemd and/or the sysv generators (or
if any conflict related to this could exist). Will mark this as Done as
soon as I'm sure (during this new Ubuntu HA work).

[Bug 1557163] Re: Init script fails to start at all if not set to start on boot

2019-07-03 Thread Rafael David Tinoco
This bug is old and refers to variables set by /etc/default.
Nevertheless, even back then, it would not be fixed because having it
NOT TO start without end-user action is the desirable behaviour. With
that, I'm closing this as won't fix and wrapping up all old bugs into
the Ubuntu HA effort. Thanks for reporting this.

[Bug 1654403] Re: Race condition in hacluster charm that leaves pacemaker down

2019-07-03 Thread Rafael David Tinoco
For this particular bug, it seems we have no description on why corosync
was taking too long to start, just that it took too long and all the
workaround made to pacemaker initialization and charm handling. With
that, I'm marking corosync as incomplete for now, that I'm gathering all
work to be done in HA packages. Please re-open this if you disagree, so
we can discuss this bug again. Thank you!

[Bug 1835340] [NEW] [HMEM] kmem: clear poison reported via mce or ACPI patrol scrub notifications

2019-07-03 Thread quanxian
Public bug reported:

Description:

During run-time, the kernel can be notified of new/latent errors in two
different ways:

If an application trips over a latent/unknown error, and if the system has
machine check recovery, then we will be notified via the mce handler, and the
app will be killed. In this case, the kernel should take the chance to go
clear-errors for that page, and re-online it so it can be used again in the
future.
If the 'patrol scrubber' discovers an error on a yet-to-be-accessed location,
it can send an ACPI notification to the nfit driver. In this case, the kernel
should go clear the error if the page is not in use. If it is in use, the
application that has it mapped may need to killed as in case 1 above.
This additional run-time handling of errors will augment (and be complimentary
to) the init-time handling in userspace, and having both will give us the best
possible coverage for media errors.

[Bug 1814611] Re: ubuntu-bug never (any longer) opens browser window

A quick fix could be to document at
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs that the error reporting
must be switch on first.

On top of that, ubuntu-bug could output a warning message that the error
reporting must be switched on first (and how/where this can be done).
