[Bug 1840563] Re: ubuntu 19.10 vm wont boot fast unless shutdown improperly

2019-08-17 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1840563/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1840563] [NEW] ubuntu 19.10 vm wont boot fast unless shutdown improperly

2019-08-17 Thread Stephen Waines
Public bug reported:

Hello
I have downloaded and install ubuntu 19.10 desktop as a virtual machine using
virtualbox 6.0.

I noticed that upon the install, it finishes but the image asks you to
eject the medium and press enter upon pressing entering nothing happens.
So I forcefully shutdown my vm, it restarted but very very slow. if I
shut down the vm improperly it loads a lot faster.

For both tests I had the same amount of processor and ram aloocated to
it.

I remember this problem with 19.04 when it first came out.

After a lot of struggles I got the vm working. I just had issues setting
a static ip but I think that has to do with my network toplogy.

Not sure if this would help. I ran systemd-analyze blame and below is my
output off of your daily build Aug 17.

This bug is about icon vs % displayed (icon full, % show 66%), it's not
about estimation of discharge, it is about icon should match percentage.

Upon disabling my grub menu using grub-customizer, I've noticed that
just before the system boots and goes into the crypto password prompt

Looks like this command is referenced from /boot/grub/grub/cfg

```
if hwmatch ${prefix}/gfxblacklist.txt 3; then
However, the mod doesn't exist on grub's mod folder:
[Bug 1840559] Re: Crashed when painting
2019-08-17 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.
When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. Using `apport-collect
BUGNUMBER` is also an alternative. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.
Crash reports can be found in /var/crash/ .
You use   ` ubuntu-bug /var/crash/[crash-file.crash] `  to submit a
crash report.
Please check your /var/crash directory for the crash report and submit
it. Please avoid creating a new bug report, but use details (eg.
'Crashed when painting' to search for this report; you likely be offered
the chance to search for duplicate) and report as duplicate of this (so
detail is added to this report).  If it's easier to create a new report
then do so, marking this as a duplicate of the new report.
The full crash output is required for bug reports, not snippets,
including your details about your release of Ubuntu, desktop used etc.
Bug description:
  CPU: Ryzen 5 2500U
  VGA: Radeon 535
  Notebook: Acer Aspire A315
  This is a brand new notebook on the market with Ryzen 5/Radeon.
  The default kernel of Ubuntu(18.04) hangs at loading with message:
  tsc: Refined TSC clocksource calibration: 1996.250 MHz
  clocksource: tsc: mask: 0x max_cycles: (...), max_idle_ns:
(...)
  Soft lockup
  Using pci=noacpi kernel parameter kernel loads without any problem but
  my notebook produces more heat than on Win10. If I know right Acer
  notebooks need ACPI to the correct power management.
  The same thing happens on mainline 4.17,4.18rc1-2.
  BIOS upgrade to the latest version: 1.08 hasn't helped
  This problem has been reported upstream:
  https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=200087
  The latest correctly working kernel was 4.13.* but the heat problem
  was present with this too.
[Bug 1840552] [NEW] Permission denied when using vfio with interface pools
2019-08-17 Thread Severn Tsui
Public bug reported:
I have a network configured like this (/etc/libvirt/qemu/networks/en4.xml):
  en4
  163f7064-5a07-4fff-8510-63ac4868ab24
If I use this network in a qemu VM like this:
I get an error like this when trying to start it using virsh:
 qemu-system-x86_64: -device
vfio-pci,host=05:01.0,id=hostdev0,bus=pci.0,addr=0x9: vfio error: :05:01.0:
failed to open /dev/vfio/34: Permission denied
However, as soon as I pass any device through (e.g. a  instead
of ), the permission error goes away.
So to me, it looks like when  is using a network that uses a
hostdev, libvirt does not set the proper permissions to allow qemu to
access the vfio.
[Bug 1840548] [NEW] Installer hangs on iMac Pro (2017)
2019-08-17 Thread Raffaele Candeliere
Public bug reported:
Hi,
I'm trying to install Ubuntu on an iMac Pro (2017) using the latest desktop ISO
(ubuntu-19.04-desktop-amd64.iso) but the installer hangs very early.
Steps to reproduce
1) Burn the ISO to a DVD or USB stick
2) From the system (EFI) OS chooser select the CD or USB device with the
Ubuntu distribution. The GRUB screen correctly pops up.
3) Select "Install Ubuntu" (or "Try Ubuntu", or "Install Ubuntu (Safe
graphics)", or "Try Ubuntu (Safe graphics)", the result is always the
same) and hit the Enter Key
Expected behavior: The installation process should start
Actual behavior: The screen goes fully blank and the system freezes
Since the system hangs so early, I'm not sure the culprit is Ubiquity or
the kernel
[Bug 1784485] Re: [ZenBook S UX391UA, Realtek ALC294, Mic, Internal] No sound at all
2019-08-17 Thread VanVan
The bug is back for me with kernel :
Linux version 5.0.0-25-generic (buildd@lgw01-amd64-008) (gcc version 8.3.0
(Ubuntu 8.3.0-6ubuntu1)) #26-Ubuntu SMP Thu Aug 1 12:04:58 UTC 2019
Sounds working for few seconds, and go down, no sound after 5 seconds.
Works again for 5 seconds after some minutes without sounds
This bug was resolved for a while, nothing was done except updating the system,
so probably related to kernel update.
Someone else has the same issue with latest update of Ubuntu 19.04 ?
TCC adjustment is required for some platform, so either we wait for
kernel patch merged or live with lock down errors with MSR accesses.
[Bug 1838464] Re: NFS volume not mounting with systemd
2019-08-17 Thread Michele Michielin
Hello, I tried all of your suggestions but nothing changed.
First attempt: I tried to add the following lines to my unit file:
After=network.target network-online.target
Before=umount.target remote-fs.target
No success.
Second attempt: I removed my unit file, I mounted manually the folder (with
"sudo mount -t nfs 192.168.1.103:/Multimedia/Music /mnt/nas/music/") and I
noticed with "show mnt-nas-music.mount" that the options generated by systemd
were different, so I changed my unit file this way:
__
[Unit]
Description=NAS volume - Music
Wants=network-online.target
WantedBy=multi-user.target
Conflicts=umount.target
Before=remote-fs.target multi-user.target umount.target
After=system.slice remote-fs-pre.target systemd-journald.socket network.target
-.mount network-online.target
[Mount]
What=192.168.1.103:/Multimedia/Music
Where=/mnt/nas/music/
Type=nfs
Options=auto,user,nfsvers=3
TimeoutSec=10
[Install]
__
No success.
The error is always the same: "network is unreachable".
Please tell me if you need some other information.
Thanks for your help.
Michele
Hi Andreas,
I'll see what I can do..but it may take a few months, due to the
upcoming semester...I think your hunch is correct, I just need to
re-establish an environmet to reproduce the defect (in a virtual box).
In the meantime: have fun!
[Bug 768791] Re: isoinfo: Unable to find Joliet SVD (USB creator won't select ISO for creating boot USB)
2019-08-17 Thread Jianfeng Li
Ubuntu 16.04.6 LTS
usb-creator-gtk searches files by extensions and checks them differently
according to extension. If it is iso file, based on the code listed
here, it has to be in Joliet format:
/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/usbcreator/backends/udisks/backend.py
+147
cmd = ['isoinfo', '-J', '-i', filename, '-x', search]
Does it have to be this way? Debian's live DVD, for example, debian-
live-10.0.0-amd64-gnome.iso, is a perfect iso 9660 file but does not
have Joliet extension, isoinfo reads it fine, dd writes fine and boots
fine. Why usb-creator-gtk does not want to handle it?
Next time if you know it is an proper bootable DVD and usb-creator-gtk
fails, just try dd.
Or, try to rename to an img file just write to usb.
[Bug 1840359] Re: systemd-networkd-wait-online & two ethernet on board
2019-08-17 Thread Dan Streetman
Your netplan config has enp3s0 as your main interface, and by default
that is required for boot, which is why your boot is delayed when you
don't have it connected.
Change your netplan 01-netcfg.yaml file to:
# This file describes the network interfaces available on your system
# For more information, see netplan(5).
network:
  version: 2
  renderer: networkd
  ethernets:
enp3s0:
  dhcp4: yes
  optional: yes
enp0s31f6:
  dhcp4: yes
  optional: yes
that should start dhcp4 on both your ethernet ports, but also won't
delay your boot.  See the netplan man page for more details about its
config params.
  The same thing happens on mainline 4.17,4.18rc1-2.
  BIOS upgrade to the latest version: 1.08 hasn't helped
  This problem has been reported upstream:
[Bug 1692342] Re: lspci -vnvn returns "pcilib: sysfs_read_vpd: read failed: Input/output error"
2019-08-17 Thread simonsudler
Just found the same input/output error on 18.04 with Linux version
5.0.0-25-generic:
$ lspci -vv -s 08:00.0
08:00.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8111/8168/8411
PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet Controller (rev 0c)
...
pcilib: sysfs_read_vpd: read failed: Input/output error
...
It seams it happens, when the /sys/bus/pci/devices/:08:00.0/vpd is
accessed:
$ strace -o /tmp/strace.log lspci -vv -s 08:00.0 > /dev/null
pcilib: sysfs_read_vpd: read failed: Input/output error
$ cat /tmp/strace.log | grep -B 2 -C 2 "Input/output error"
pread64(3, "\3\0\0\0", 4, 208)  = 4
openat(AT_FDCWD, "/sys/bus/pci/devices/:08:00.0/vpd", O_RDONLY) = 5
pread64(5, 0x7fff8ed80e2e, 1, 0)= -1 EIO (Input/output error)
write(2, "pcilib: ", 8) = 8
write(2, "sysfs_read_vpd: read failed: Inp"..., 47) = 47
It can be reproduced by reading the device directly:
$ cat /sys/bus/pci/devices/:08:00.0/vpd
cat: '/sys/bus/pci/devices/:08:00.0/vpd': Input/output error
It seams that this is a kernel issue, because the vpd is created, even
if the device (in my case the RTL8111/8168/8411) does not support vpd.
There is also a kernel bug report:
https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=199467
[Bug 1838547] Re: firmware updates on Lenovo P1 (20ME) not working
2019-08-17 Thread Brainslug
o.k., problem is solved!
I poked around in the BIOS/UEFI settings some more and confirmed that my
system was indeed booted in UEFI mode. However, there is another BIOS
setting in the "Security" section of the BIOS, where "Windows UEFI
Firmware Update" can be enabled and disabled. This setting was set to
"Disabled" - I changed it to "Enabled" and now 'fwupdmgr get-devices'
shows a lot more devices, including my P1 itself:
20MES1WH00 System Firmware
  DeviceId: 71519311a643244a2eaf392fbf17c968ec135dd3
  Guid: a95d69e7-2fa0-4849-9159-75645bc6e153
  Version:  0.1.23
  VersionLowest:0.1.23
  Icon: computer
  Created:  2019-08-17
fwupdmgr get-updates now finds the matching firmware packages as
expected.
This bug report can be closed, but maybe it will help other P1 owners to
get fwupd working on their machine.
[Bug 1833793] Re: Updating to 19.04 audio keeps clicking when nothing is playing audio
2019-08-17 Thread Tais P. Hansen
I have this problem on 18.04.3 after upgrading to the 5.0.0 hwe kernel
(5.0.0-25-generic). Reproducible by letting the device go into power
save and then waking it up by running pavucontrol.
