thank you for the quick response. I'm deploying the kernel to

[Bug 1812754]

2019-09-10 Thread 1000dead
If it helps I don't think its specific to using the command line. I'm
having the same problem of random blank pages being added using the
normal GUI version. I think its a more widespread fundamental problem.
This seems to mostly happen when there are a lot of pages and images
involved. This is basically the same report I put in here:

https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=98698

I'm using:

Libreoffice version:

[Bug 1772520] Re: Font metrics mixed up when selecting Arabic characters in Writer

Description:
In most fonts, many characters in the Arabic script change their width and
height as typing progresses. For example the letter ب (U+0628) is reduced to
about a half or even a third of its width if it's followed by another character
such as ا (U+0627): با. Usually LibreOffice understands the changes in font
metrics pretty well but not always.

See the attached screenshot where I've written the sentence "مرحبا يا
صديقي العزيز" in Writer and started selecting letters from the beginning
of the line. The selection shown in the screenshot looks like the whole
first word plus the following space but actually it only covers the
first 4 letters of the first word out of 5 total: مرحب. From a user's
point of view, this is very confusing, as I can't tell how far I've
already selected without counting the characters in my mind. Even more
surprisingly, LibreOffice Calc shows the selection as expected, i.e.
different from Writer, so this does not feel like a font problem per se,
although only some fonts display this behavior.

The font I'm using in this example is Scheherazade, available through a
third-party repository at packages.sil.org (Debian package fonts-sil-
scheherazade). The font is designed to cover a very wide variety of
characters used for Arabic-script minority languages in both Asia and
Africa, and in many cases it's the only professionally made font
available for people working on many of these languages.

This bug was first reported on Launchpad for LO 5.4.6.2 on Ubuntu 17.10
at: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/+bug/1772520 .
After my initial report, I have upgraded to LO 6.0.3.2 and can still
reproduce the problem. Another user on Launchpad confirmed the bug on LO
6.0.3.2, as well.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. In a new Writer document, change font to Scheherazade and paragraph
directionality to RTL.
2. Type مرحبا يا صديقي العزيز
3. Go to the beginning of the line (extreme right as this is a RTL language)
and select 4 characters by pressing Shift+Left four times.

Actual Results:
On screen, it looks like you have selected the whole first word and the
following space (altogether 6 characters). In reality, only the first 4
characters have been selected.

Expected Results:
Visually, only 4 characters should appear selected.

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: No

2019-09-10 Thread Ethan Walker
I'm uncertain if this channel is still open, but It seems that the problem
has returned. I'm not quite sure why, I think it might be that I didn't
properly update to boot parameters when I was testing kernel 5.3.0 - 994
but either way, it seems that the new kernel isn't a solution.

[Bug 1843524] [NEW] Please package 3.33.91 or remove Geary from Ubuntu

2019-09-10 Thread Michael Gratton
Public bug reported:

I've just released Geary 3.33.91, which is basically a code complete
release of Geary 3.34.0.

Although a great number of features and important bug fixes have gone in
to the last few major releases, the current version of Geary currently
packaged in Ubuntu is still 0.12, which will be 2 years and 3 major
releases behind when 3.34.0 is released late next week.

So, please update Geary to 3.33.91. If that is not possible, then remove
it from Ubuntu altogether, because the currently packaged version is
doing more harm than good.

[Bug 1833484] Re: Sometimes touchpad automatically trigger double click

2019-09-10 Thread Anthony Wong
** Description changed:

  [Impact]
  Dell machines which uses goodix touchpad IC emit double click event
  while touching the touchpad if designware i2c adapter is in runtime
  suspend.

  Goodix re-assert the interrupt if host doesn't read the data within
  100ms and designware takes a longer time to wake up from runtime
  suspend. In the case, it got a second interrupt during resuming, so
  it thinks it's a double click.

  [Fix]
  There is no simple way to fix this, it's a firmware issue and goodix
  agrees to fix this in their firmware on next release, but this issue is
  still affects the machines that don't come with an updated firmware. So,
  add a quirk to mark those machines and avoid the designware from entering
  runtime suspend.

  [Regression Potential]
  Low, it only affects the listed machines, and prevent designware from
  entering runtime suspend impacts the power consumption little or none
  during short or long idle.
+
+ [MISC]
+ This patch contains on going product name, so set it as SAUCE patch,
+ will submit it to upstream and to Bionic kernel later.

[Bug 1843520] [NEW] ubuntu-dock right-click menu appears on wrong monitor and is permanent

2019-09-10 Thread Rocko
Public bug reported:

Very recently the ubuntu-dock has started displaying some right-click
menus for pinned apps on the wrong monitor. It doesn't happen for all
the apps, but when it does, the menu is permanent but you can't click on
it and you have to restart gnome-shell with ALT-F2 'r' (which now always
kills some apps like firefox).

See attached screenshot where the menu for gnome-tweaks has appeared at
the top left of the top monitor.

[Bug 1843519] Re: i can't install completely

2019-09-10 Thread Bashing-om
Hello Christopher -

Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Examining the information you have given us, this does not appear to be
a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to a question in the
support tracker.
This is more a proper partitioning issue, in which help will be available in
the other venues.
This report is forwarded to the support tracker.

We understand the difficulties you are facing, but it is better to raise
problems you are having in the support tracker at
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if you are uncertain if they are
bugs. You can also find help with your problem in the support forum of
your local Ubuntu community http://loco.ubuntu.com/ or asking at
https://askubuntu.com or https://ubuntuforums.org. For help on reporting
bugs, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs.

[Bug 1805256] qemu_futex_wait() lockups in ARM64: 2 possible issues

While debugging hungs in ARM64 while doing a simple:

I might have found 2 issues which I'd like you to review, if possible.

ISSUE #1

I've caught the following stack trace after an HUNG in qemu-img convert:

$4 = {value = 4294967295, initialized = true}

value INT_MAX (4294967295) seems WRONG for qemu_futex_wait():

- EV_BUSY, being -1, and passed as an argument qemu_futex_wait(void *,
unsigned), is a two's complement, making argument into a INT_MAX when
that's not what is expected (unless I missed something).

*** If that is the case, unsure if you, Paolo, prefer declaring
*(QemuEvent)->value as an integer or changing EV_BUSY to "2" would okay
here ***

ISSUE #2

I found this when debugging lockups while in futex() in a specific ARM64
server - https://bugs.launchpad.net/qemu/+bug/1805256 - which I'm still
investigating.

After fixing the issue above, I'm still getting stuck into:

qemu_event_wait() -> qemu_futex_wait()

***
As if qemu_event_set() has ran before qemu_futex_wait() ever started running
***

The Other threads are waiting for poll() on a PIPE coming from this
stuck thread (thread #1), and in sigwait():

(gdb) thread 1

(gdb) bt
#0  0xbf1ad81c in __GI_ppoll
#1  0xaabcf73c in ppoll

#4  0xbf25c880 in start_thread
#5  0xbf1b6b9c in thread_start

QUESTION:

- Should qemu_event_set() check return code from
qemu_futex_wake()->qemu_futex()->syscall() in order to know if ANY
waiter was ever woken up ? Maybe even loop until at least 1 is awaken ?

Tks in advance,

Rafael D. Tinoco

[Bug 1820768] Re: [SRU] support new cab and new docking firmware upgrade in fwupd 1.2.10

2019-09-10 Thread Yuan-Chen Cheng
** Description changed:

  * Impact

  Bios vendor is pushing to put the new design into cab file, and also new
  docking DW19 needs the new fwupd to support it.

  That needs new fwupd to support.

  * Background:
   1. most user does firmware update via gnome-software and it talk to fwupd.
   2. only very very limited user will call /usr/bin/fwupdate from the command
line.
   3. the new fwupd will need a new fwupd-signed. So we will remove
fwupdate-signed.

  * Current test result before we have something in proposed channel:
   1. new fwupd works well with gnome-software, so we should be safe to go.
   2. for those very limited user, they can call /usr/lib/fwupd/fwupdate to
replace /usr/bin/fwupdate. so it should be safe to remove fwupdate.

  * Test case

  I
  1. install the new fwupd, and plugin the new docking - DW19.
  2. fwupdmgr get-devices and check if all internal device can properly show
  II.
  1. If you can get new cab file, try to use fwupdmgr install XX.cab to see if
can work properly.
  III.
- 1. If you can get a machine that have some firmware update pending, try to go
gnome-software, and click refresh with the new fwupd, you should be able to see
the pending firmware showed there. Which proves that it can properly be
integrated with gnome. (ycheng-twn have a laptop with that condition, and he
can verify that one)
- IV.
+ 1. If you can get a machine that have some firmware update pending, try to go
gnome-software, and click refresh with the new fwupd, you should be able to see
the pending firmware showed there. Which proves that it can properly be
integrated with gnome. (ycheng-twn have a laptop with that condition, and he
can verify that one

  * Regression potential

  Since the upstream maintainer is back up this upgrade, and he also works
  in a major computer vendor and works closely with the BIOS team, it
  should be fairly low risk.

This kind of problem may happen when browsing the web due to the
increased CPU load that requires. Still, this sounds like a hardware
problem specific to this laptop. You may need a new fan. Sorry.

Confirming. If one tries rebooting the computer/VM, it may result in

Temporary workaround as advised on the Net (works for Ubuntu 18.04.3,

[Bug 1818407] Re: Cant access emmc, error -84

2019-09-10 Thread Óvári
Tried with the latest "generic" kernel, i.e. 5.2.11.

Once you reproduced it, reboot setting eMMC Max Speed to HS200, and run:
   journalctl -kb -1 | nc termbin.com
to post your kernel log from the last but one (-1) boot (the one where
the eMMC failed) to termbin.com. Then send along the termbin.com URL
that was returned on the terminal and update your bug report with your
new findings (affected mainline kernel version).

It doesn't seem to show the failed boot. Perhaps this is due to not
being able to access the eMMC?

Attaching photos of the display.

Attached is 1 of 2.

Attached is 2 of 2.

[Bug 1770124] Re: Smartlist with Postifix broken in 18.04 LTS works in 17.10

2019-09-10 Thread Robert Dinse
I reiterate since this is still open, this bug report can be closed. The issue
was a permissions
issue. Upgrade changed ownership of some files which would have worked if I
only had Ubuntu machines but some of my mail servers are redhat which need a
different owner and smartlist files are shared
so can only be one or the other. Not a problem with package per se', just a
compatibility issue between two different distros.

[Bug 1842037] Re: Oops when Kerberos credentials are invalid

2019-09-10 Thread Matthew Ruffell
Hi Frank,

The test kernel has built, and I have tested it to ensure it boots, but
I now need you to verify that the backported patches fix the issue that
you are having.

Can you please install the test kernel onto a system which is having
problems with NFS clients that are connecting with invalid kerberos
credentials?

Please note this kernel is NOT SUPPORTED by Canonical, and is for
TESTING PURPOSES ONLY. ONLY Install in a dedicated test environment.

Instructions to install (on a bionic system):

1) sudo add-apt-repository ppa:mruffell/sf241068-test
2) sudo apt-get update
3) sudo apt install linux-image-unsigned-5.0.0-27-generic
linux-headers-5.0.0-27-generic linux-headers-5.0.0-27
linux-modules-5.0.0-27-generic linux-modules-extra-5.0.0-27-generic
4) reboot
5) uname -rv
5.0.0-27-generic #28~18.04.1+hf241068v20190910b2-Ubuntu SMP Tue Sep 10 06:53:53
U

If you get output different from above then you need to edit grub
configuration to boot the correct kernel. If you are asked to abort the
kernel install due to removing the running kernel, say no.

This kernel contains the below patches you requested:

https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/BPD3PzmZ97/
https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/74n7nq5Wfj/

Please test the kernel and let me know if it fixes your problem. If you
could also provide a stack trace or sosreport of the original issue,
that would be good as well.

Let me know if you have any questions,

Thanks,
Matthew

[Bug 1843507] Re: apt-get update to latest libidn2.so.0 causes multiple application failures including apt-update

2019-09-10 Thread Blfrg
I experienced the same issue.

cat /etc/lsb-release
DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu
DISTRIB_RELEASE=18.04
DISTRIB_CODENAME=bionic
DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS"

uname -sri
Linux 5.0.0-27-generic x86_64

Machine would no longer boot successfully, primarily due to NetworkManager
failing.
These are the steps I took to revert until resolved:
Boot in recovery mode, get to command prompt
dhclient
wget
http://mirrors.kernel.org/ubuntu/pool/main/libi/libidn2/libidn2-0_2.0.4-1.1build2_amd64.deb
dpkg -i libidn2-0_2.0.4-1.1build2_amd64.deb
reboot
---
Note: If you have i386 libs you have to revert them as well:
wget
http://mirrors.kernel.org/ubuntu/pool/main/libi/libidn2/libidn2-0_2.0.4-1.1build2_i386.deb

[Bug 1843296] Re: ZFS auto scrub after upgrade to Xubuntu 19.10

2019-09-10 Thread BertN45
I have two datapools one in the begin of the HDD for the Host OSes and
Virtual Machines and one at the end for data, music, family videos and
relatively large old archives. The throughput at the begin of the HDD is
often twice the throughput at the end of the HDD, so I have a very good
reason to put the Host OSes and Virtual Machines at the begin of a HDD.

[Bug 1843296] Re: ZFS auto scrub after upgrade to Xubuntu 19.10

2019-09-10 Thread Richard Laager
I’m not aware of anything new starting scrubs. Scrubs are throttled and
usually the complaint is that they are throttled too much, not too
little. Having two pools on the same disk is likely the issue. That
should be avoided, with the exception of a small boot pool on the same
disk as the root pool for root on ZFS setups. Is that your multiple
pools situation, or are you doing something else?

[Bug 1843490] Re: lxc.cgroup.devices.allow prevents unprivileged container from starting

2019-09-10 Thread Stéphane Graber via ubuntu-bugs
"lxc.cgroup.devices" is meaningless for unprivileged containers as those
can never create those devices anyway, so they'll only ever have access
to whatever devices lxc provides and nothing more. All our own default
configs specifically do not set that cgroup controller for unprivileged
containers.

The error you're getting specifically suggests that the cgroups that are
delegated to your unprivileged users do not include the devices
controller which does match what I'm seeing in /proc/self/cgroup on my
system here.

If you wanted to be able to write to the devices cgroup, you would need
your user session to have the devices cgroup in /proc/self/cgroup point
to a path that your user can write to. At which point the config should
work, though still effectively be meaningless.

[Bug 1843511] [NEW] i915 enable_rc6=0 not respected

2019-09-10 Thread Robert Dinse
Public bug reported:

 i915 enable_rc6=0 is not respected. I want to disable rc6 power savings
because it is a tower
machine with a kilowatt supply and lots of fan so I don't give a rip about
power consumption, I do not
want my display interrupted while I'm watching a movie or video and when
monitoring things I want to
be able to walk by the monitor and see what is going on without having to go up
and wiggle the mouse
and wait for it to wake up and my monitor to sync.

 I have an i7-9700k on an Asus Z390A Prime motherboard. I have
enable RC6 disabled in the BIOS so BIOS isn't enabling it, in
/etc/modprobe.d/i915.conf I have:

 options i915 enable_guc=3 enable_dc=0 enable_rc6=0

 In /etc/default/grub I have:

 GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash xdg.force_integrated=1
modprobe.blacklist=nouveau i915.i915_enable_rc6=0"

 I have done update-grub2 and update-initramfs -u -k all and
rebooted, but still:

cat /sys/class/drm/card0/power/rc6_enable
1

 The kernel totally ignores my instructions and enables the damned
thing anyway.  ARRGGH!

[Bug 1805256] Re: qemu-img hangs on rcu_call_ready_event logic in Aarch64 when converting images

2019-09-10 Thread Rafael David Tinoco
QEMU BUG: #1

Alright, one of the issues is (according to comment #14):

"""
Meaning that code is waiting for a futex inside kernel.

(gdb) print rcu_call_ready_event
$4 = {value = 4294967295, initialized = true}

The QemuEvent "rcu_call_ready_event->value" is set to INT_MAX and I
don't know why yet.

rcu_call_ready_event->value is only touched by:

qemu_event_init() -> bool init ? EV_SET : EV_FREE
qemu_event_reset() -> atomic_or(>value, EV_FREE)
qemu_event_set() -> atomic_xchg(>value, EV_SET)
qemu_event_wait() -> atomic_cmpxchg(>value, EV_FREE, EV_BUSY)'
"""

Now I know why rcu_call_ready_event->value is set to INT_MAX. That is
because in the following declaration:

struct QemuEvent {
#ifndef __linux__
pthread_mutex_t lock;
pthread_cond_t cond;
#endif
unsigned value;
bool initialized;
};

#define EV_SET 0
#define EV_FREE1
#define EV_BUSY   -1

"value" is declared as unsigned, but EV_BUSY sets it to -1, and,
according to the Two's Complement Operation
(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Two%27s_complement), it will be INT_MAX
(4294967295).

So this is the "first bug" found AND it is definitely funny that this
hasn't been seen in other architectures at all... I can reproduce it at
will.

With that said, it seems that there is still another issue causing (less
frequently):

Thread 2 to be stuck at "futex()" kernel syscall (like the FUTEX_WAKE
never happened and/or wasn't atomic for this arch/binary). Need to
investigate this also.

[Bug 1843471] Re: missing dependency on lxqt-config-l10n

2019-09-10 Thread Alf Gaida
Plain wrong - as long the user don't descide otherwise - all language
packages are recommended, the default is: install-recommends -- so if a
user knows better and do an `apt install --no-install-recommends $foo`
one get exactly what one want.

I have the following mouse:

$ lsusb
...
Bus 002 Device 005: ID 09da:000a A4Tech Co., Ltd. Optical Mouse Opto 510D /
OP-620D

It was working well till the kernel 5.1.16. I upgraded the kernel to
5.1.18 and the mouse scroll doesn't work any more. The same issue is
with the kernel 5.2.0 and 5.2.1 . I haven't tested it with the 5.1.17
version.

When I compare the kernel .config file from 5.1.16 and 5.1.18, they're
pretty much the same.

I can confirm same issue. Fedora 30, 5.1.17-300.fc30.x86_64 kernel, the
same mouse :

$ lsusb
...
Bus 003 Device 002: ID 09da:000a A4Tech Co., Ltd. Optical Mouse Opto 510D
/OP-620D

First time I supposed that my mouse is gone, but then I rebooted into
older 5.1.16 kernel - and everything works fine there.

I've been upgraded (F30) into the 5.1.18-300.fc30.x86_64 kernel before a
while, problem still remains. So it has to be something (which occurs)
between 5.1.16 and 5.1.17 and it's not solved yet.

[Bug 1843508] [NEW] Apt erases console output from commands that were run prior to it.

2019-09-10 Thread Nikolas Britton
Public bug reported:

Apt is erasing the previous contents of my terminal window. The output
from commands that had been run prior to running apt were entirely
erased from the terminal's historical record.

This is seriously bad etiquette, you should not ever take a dump all
over the historical record of a terminal's output. The scroll-back
feature is intentionally there so you can show a linear sequence of
events. Back in the day consoles were connected directly to printers,
and in fact some companies still do this for security auditing purposes,
so you have to presume the terminal can only be written to... this is
why it's called standard out. Overwriting is a serious no no. Also I'm
not happy about apt breaking scripted execution (wtf were you
thinking?), but this overwriting of the console record is a flagrant
violation of proper etiquette. Please do the needful!

Steps to reproduce:

fio --randrepeat=1 --ioengine=libaio --direct=0 --gtod_reduce=1
--name=test --filename=test -iodepth=32 --size=32G --readwrite=randrw
--rwmixread=60 --bsrange=4k-1024k --numjobs=6 --group_reporting=1

[Bug 1801781] Re: Ubuntu Kickstart networking deprecated since v18.04+

2019-09-10 Thread Dave

18.04, but the networking portion of Kickstart does not work at all and
needs to be updated for SystemV. Please see my above bug description.
