[Bug 1844897] [NEW] wifi icon has question mark in it even though network is fine

2019-09-21 Thread Jonathan Kamens
Public bug reported:

After experiencing some "turbulence" in my wifi (I rebooted my primary
wifi router, which caused my laptop to fallback onto a secondary access
point which didn't have full connectivity until the primary router
finished rebooting, then I rebooted the primary router a second time),
the wifi icon in my top bar stayed as the question-mark icon (i.e., the
icon that shows when Network Manager doesn't think you have full
connectivity) even after everything was back up and in fact my
connectivity was fine.

Turning wifi off and back on did not cause the question mark to go away.
Restarting Network Manager did not cause the question mark to go away.
Switching to a different wifi network and then back to the previous one
didn't cause the question mark to go away. I had to reboot my laptop to
get the question mark to go away.

[Bug 1844894] [NEW] docker doesn’t start in bionic (Unit docker.service is masked), if previously installed+removed in xenial

2019-09-21 Thread Anders Kaseorg
Public bug reported:

If I install docker.io on xenial, remove it, upgrade to bionic, and
install it again, then the docker service doesn’t start.

This is because the xenial docker.io postrm left docker.service and
docker.socket masked (via an autogenerated deb-systemd-helper snippet),
and the bionic docker.io postinst only unmasks docker.socket.

Reproducible test case with LXD:

• Create a xenial container:

$ lxc remote add --protocol simplestreams ubuntu-minimal
https://cloud-images.ubuntu.com/minimal/releases
$ lxc launch ubuntu-minimal:16.04 docker-test
$ lxc exec docker-test bash
root@docker-test:~# lsb_release -a
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description:Ubuntu 16.04.6 LTS
Release:16.04
Codename: xenial

• Install docker.io:

root@docker-test:~# apt update
root@docker-test:~# apt -y install docker.io
root@docker-test:~# systemctl list-unit-files docker.socket docker.service
UNIT FILE STATE
docker.service enabled
docker.socket enabled

2 unit files listed.
root@docker-test:~# docker version -f '{{.Server.Version}}'
18.09.7

• Remove docker.io:

root@docker-test:~# apt -y remove docker.io
root@docker-test:~# systemctl list-unit-files docker.socket docker.service
UNIT FILE STATE
docker.service masked
docker.socket masked

2 unit files listed.

• Upgrade to bionic:

root@docker-test:~# script /dev/null -c do-release-upgrade
…
Restart required

To finish the upgrade, a restart is required.
If you select 'y' the system will be restarted.

Continue [yN] y
Script done, file is /dev/null
$ lxc exec docker-test bash
root@docker-test:~# lsb_release -a
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description:Ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS
Release:18.04
Codename: bionic

• Install docker.io:

root@docker-test:~# apt -y install docker.io
root@docker-test:~# systemctl list-unit-files docker.socket docker.service
UNIT FILE STATE
docker.service masked
docker.socket enabled

2 unit files listed.
root@docker-test:~# docker version -f '{{.Server.Version}}'

Cannot connect to the Docker daemon at unix:///var/run/docker.sock. Is the
docker daemon running?
root@docker-test:~# systemctl start docker
Failed to start docker.service: Unit docker.service is masked.

• Workaround:

root@docker-test:~# systemctl unmask docker
Removed /etc/systemd/system/docker.service.
root@docker-test:~# systemctl start docker
root@docker-test:~# docker version -f '{{.Server.Version}}'
18.09.7

[Bug 1835738] Re: SRU: Update Python interpreter to 3.6.9 and 3.7.4

2019-09-21 Thread kkm
I am not sure if this is the place to report this, but I cannot think of
a better one to attract Mathias' attention, sorry.

Four python3.6 packages (and likely also python3.7 and python3.8) currently
available in the ubuntu-toolchain-r PPA have an unmet version dependency on the
'python3' package. After adding the ppa, apt reports certain packages as
upgradeable, but they cannot be upgraded:

unfortunately, I can't reproduce the case now since the machine in
question has been handed over to a customer. But there's a dmesg from
that server. I have attached the dmesg.

The behaviour change is still present in systemd master

I can revert the change in systemd, but it also fixes an issue reported at
upstream.
I will take another look later, but wanted to document my findings.

[Bug 1844879] Re: Behaviour change in systemd 243 breaks libvirt autopkgtest

2019-09-21 Thread Balint Reczey
The commit where the regression is introduced in this commit:

commit 0219b3524f414e23589e63c6de6a759811ef8474
Author: Donald Buczek
Date: Thu Apr 25 09:39:41 2019 +0200

cgroup: Continue unit reset if cgroup is busy

When part of the cgroup hierarchy cannot be deleted (e.g. because there
are still processes in it), do not exit unit_prune_cgroup early, but
continue so that u->cgroup_realized is reset.

Log the known case of non-empty cgroups at debug level and other errors
at warning level.

[Bug 1844876] Re: Plasma 5.16.90 needs newer Phonon

2019-09-21 Thread Rik Mills
Eoan will ship with Plasma 5.16. 5.17.0 simply comes too late in the
release cycle at 2 days before final Eoan release, and we would never
ship with a .0 release even if it was possible.

I will look into including the new phonon in any new backports/beta PPA
builds where there is Plasma 5.17.

[Bug 1844876] [NEW] Plasma 5.16.90 needs newer Phonon

2019-09-21 Thread Claudio
Public bug reported:

Hi

In Plasma 5.16.90 the Phonon KCM was removed and got replaced with a standalone
application in Phonon 4.11 (
https://github.com/KDE/phonon/commit/43efb686b2134e0973f62c7571ba913bdf928d40 ).
As Kubuntu disco/eoan ships with Version 4.10.2/3 there is no longer the
possibility to change the backend between gstreamer and vlc other than only
installing one of these backends (not that big of a problem) and you can no
longer prioritize the outputs (like internal soundcard over hdmi) which leads
in my case after a reboot always to default to hdmi instead of the soundcard.

Could you please update Phonon at least for eoan as I guess this will be
shipping Plasma 5.17?

[Bug 1723857] Re: onscreen keyboard appears whenever i touch touchscreen

2019-09-21 Thread MangoCats
FWIW, we thought we had this situation under control with a patch on
18.04.2, but on upgrade to 18.04.3 it is back.

I suppose this is a question for the GNOME team, but how hard would it
be to have a simple boolean preference setting that can turn the
onscreen keyboard OFF, permanently, in all situations, for those who do
not want it, but still want other touchscreen functionality?

[Bug 1844875] [NEW] Recover from Suspend fails if displays are changed

2019-09-21 Thread phanky5
Public bug reported:

When I have a second screen connected and I issue suspend and then
disconnect the display the system will be unable to recover from
suspend.

I would expect it not to matter if external displays are connected to my
laptop or not in between suspending and recovering from suspend. It's
normal to suspend a laptop before unplugging the display and for example
going to the office.

[Bug 1739505] Re: [SRU] segfault on simple script that involves eval

2019-09-21 Thread Graham Inggs
** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+ * local C shell scripts using 'eval' will fail
+ * Components of some proprietary software e.g. ANSYS, ABAQUS fail to start
without indicating an error
+
+ [Test Case]
+ $ sudo apt install csh
+ $ bsd-csh -f -c 'eval date'
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+ Upstream committed the following to fix a warning with GGC 7:
+ This warning had been incorrectly fixed in csh/20110502-3 and introduced the
segfault.
+
+ -
+
the following line in Ubuntu 17.10 (but most likely before as well as
the package hasn't been updated since 2011):

  eval set val = '$'hello

  gives the following results:

  * /bin/tcsh: hello: Undefined variable.
  * /bin/bsd-csh: Segmentation fault (core dumped)

Given that bsd-csh is determined as system default if both bsd-csh and
tcsh are present on the system, it would be helpful if this worked.
Otherwise, using tcsh easily fixes this (but makes bsd-csh even more
  obsolete).

[Bug 1840328] Re: Regression in overlayfs between 4.4.0-157 and 4.4.0-159

2019-09-21 Thread Duncan Overbruck
I can confirm this bug with overlayfs on top of tmpfs, I think it
happens when a program does fsetxattr on a file.

I was able to reproduce it with sed which uses setxattr when it creates
a new file, the shell does not do this when creating a file and does not
trigger the bug.

`touch /tmp/foo; sed -i '' /tmp/foo; cat /tmp/foo` results in EACCES
from open(2) in cat(1).

sed:
fsetxattr(4, "system.posix_acl_access",
"\2\0\0\0\1\0\6\0\377\377\377\377\4\0\4\0\377\377\377\377
\0\4\0\377\377\377\377", 28, 0) = 0

cat:
open("/tmp/foo", O_RDONLY) = -1 EACCES (Permission denied)

[Bug 1368402]

2019-09-21 Thread Xgfc
Sorry for the delayed response, Olivier.

Solved/Workaround found

1. I set "reverse scrolling enabled" in touchpad settings
2. I removed "xserver-xorg-input-synaptics" This is the step I had not done
earlier.
3. I ran xinput --set-int-prop DEVICE_ID "libinput Natural Scrolling Enabled"
8 1
4. Restarted the system

Now all applications have natural scrolling.

Thank you.

[Bug 1844867] [NEW] nautilus window "open file" cannot be maximized

2019-09-21 Thread betteropensource
Public bug reported:

When I do "Open file" from within any application, the nautilus window appears
but it doesn't have the "maximize" button and also the double-click on its

I must resize it manually by dragging each border...
In the previous versions of nautilus this action were possible and much useful.
