[Bug 1845102] Re: Video flicker on triggering OSD in Xorg (but not Wayland)

2019-09-30 Thread KC
P.S. This might also be a security issue. I've noticed that the frame
that's stuck inside the flicker reappears when I shut down / restart my
computer. That's a potential security issue because you might not be the
only person using your computer and all of a sudden this errant frame of
video pops up.

I get corrupted icons in Gnome's top panel (specifically the Quake and Dropbox

I also get corrupted tooltips in Firefox, e.g., hovering my mouse over my

As suggested by OP, downgrading xorg made the problem go away:

[Bug 1845102] Re: Video flicker on triggering OSD in Xorg (but not Wayland)

2019-09-30 Thread KC
@vanvugt The tearing's a nonissue now so it makes sense to refashion
this report to deal with the flicker only. I'd really rather not shirk
this report with the traction it's received.

Re #19, just the one screen. But that makes no difference either. I have
a multiple screen setup on a different computer and this happens there
too. It happens everywhere, regardless of hardware. It also happens with
all the extensions and modes are pulled out. It happens regardless of
what theme or what shell theme I use. And I haven't been able to
reproduce this issue on Arch, Fedora Rawhide or Manjaro.

It's not detected because only debug message was added, there's no

This issue requires even more debugging & testing steps and can be

System exhibits uncontrolled screen-tearing that can be seen when moving
windows, watching videos or playing games, or any graphical movement in
general. The tearing gradually shifts up or down the screen, suggesting
its a cycle frequency miss-match (or floating-point error).

Has affected mesa 12 and kernel 4.8 onwards.

Don't think I can show a video as I don't have a high-end camera or
capture card, but it affects vanilla Kubuntu 16.10 and 17.04 at least.

it's less obvious, but there still appears to be screen tearing when
running via openGL 3.1 using full-screen-repaints.

It's also reasonably obvious that for some GUIs their buttons will
update their two triangles across two frames instead of one, this seems
to be a much rarer occurrence with the above settings however.

How does that manifest, and when you do what?

FWIW, since DRI3 is enabled, "Re-use screen content" is the most
efficient setting.

[Bug 1846140] Re: Realtek RTL8723BU doesn't work well in ubuntu

2019-09-30 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1846140/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1825718] Re: Touchpad not detecting in Linux

2019-09-30 Thread Kai-Heng Feng
Andan,
Can you please test latest mainline kernel? I think this commit can fix your
issue:
commit 670784fb4ebe54434e263837390e358405031d9e
Author: Kai-Heng Feng
Date: Tue Apr 30 16:37:53 2019 +0800

pinctrl: intel: Clear interrupt status in mask/unmask callback

Commit a939bb57cd47 ("pinctrl: intel: implement gpio_irq_enable") was
added because clearing interrupt status bit is required to avoid
unexpected behavior.

Turns out the unmask callback also needs the fix, which can solve weird
IRQ triggering issues on I2C touchpad ELAN1200.

r8169: don't use MSI before RTL8168d

BugLink: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1841994

[ Upstream commit 003bd5b4a7b4a94b501e3a1e2e7c9df6b2a94ed4 ]

It was reported that after resuming from suspend network fails with
error "do_IRQ: 3.38 No irq handler for vector", see [0]. Enabling WoL
can work around the issue, but the only actual fix is to disable MSI.
So let's mimic the behavior of the vendor driver and disable MSI on
all chip versions before RTL8168d.

[Bug 1833618] Re: failing to deploy Ubuntu Disco

2019-09-30 Thread Rafael David Tinoco
Note:

I have to re-submit Disco MR and a new PPA package, as the compiler in
Disco is likely more recent and treating lots of "new warnings" as
errors (-Wimplicit-fallthrough, etc...). I'll do it tomorrow!

I came across this: https://fabianlee.org/2018/09/13/ubuntu-alternate-

Can I use the qemu-provided bios in 16.04 and use it in 18.04 for these
VMs with really old kernels?

[Bug 1845802] Re: [radeon] Corrupt/skewed gnome-shell panel rendering

2019-09-30 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Maybe my comment #2 is wrong because the Xrandr output in the attached
files doesn't suggest any scaling.

Still, as the first priority I would like to understand how and why the
screenshot is an unusual resolution:

https://justpaste.it/img/43abe76d7c7deef69a379c2fabbf60b6.png

Has it been edited?

Can you please open 'Settings > Devices > Screen Display' and then take
a screenshot of that?

[Bug 1833618] Re: failing to deploy Ubuntu Disco

2019-09-30 Thread Rafael David Tinoco
$ rmadison sg3-utils-udev
 sg3-utils-udev | 1.40-0ubuntu1 | xenial | all
 sg3-utils-udev | 1.42-2ubuntu1 | bionic | all
 sg3-utils-udev | 1.42-2ubuntu1 | disco | all
 sg3-utils-udev | 1.44-1ubuntu1 | eoan | all

And:

[ Mauricio Faria de Oliveira ]
  * sg3-utils-udev (new binary package): provide the udev rules for
SCSI-ID mappings and symlinks at boot time for multipath-tools:
- debian/control: add sg3-utils-udev
- debian/rules: build it with override_dh_{install,clean}
- debian/initramfs/hooks: add_udev_rules() and copy_exec() 'sg_inq'
  to initramfs
- debian/sg3-utils-udev.post{inst,rm}: call update-initramfs

Marking this affecting Bionic, Disco and Eoan.
Will also provide a MR do Debian/Salsa.
