[Bug 684280] Re: casper toram forgets to disconnect loop device

2019-10-25 Thread Charles Wilkins via ubuntu-bugs
Regarding comment #20, 2019-10-03,

I tried this patch and umount -d ${copyfrom} seems like it should
unmount the loopback device, but it does not.

Yet this works:

root@xubuntu:~# losetup -d /dev/loop0
root@xubuntu:~# umount /isodevice

I am still looking that this, but was curious if anybody else is
experiencing the same issue when booting a recent live iso from disk.

[Bug 1849918] [NEW] Release upgrade disco->eoan fails when Ubuntu mirrors are specified in mirrors:// format

2019-10-25 Thread Philipp Reichmuth
Public bug reported:

When updating Ubuntu 19.04 (disco) to 19.10 (eoan), ubuntu-release-
upgrader throws the following error about missing package information
and a missing ubuntu-minimal-package (in German):

```
Ungültige Paketinformationen
Das benötigte Paket »ubuntu-minimal« wurde nach der Aktualisierung
Ihrer Paketinformationen nicht gefunden. Dies kann daran liegen, dass
Sie keine offiziellen Spiegel-Server in Ihren Paketquellen
eingetragen haben oder ein Spiegel-Server überlastet ist.
Ihre derzeit eingerichteten Paketquellen finden Sie in
/etc/apt/sources.list. Im Falle eines überlasteten Spiegel-Servers
können Sie es später erneut versuchen.
```

In my `/etc/apt/sources.list`, the Ubuntu mirrors are specified through
`mirrors.txt` and `mirrors://` URLs, as in

```
deb mirror://mirrors.ubuntu.com/mirrors.txt/ disco main restricted
...
```

When I change that manually to a regular HTTP URL for some fixed mirror
(e.g. `deb http://de.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ disco main restricted`), it
works and the upgrade process proceeds normally.

It looks like ubuntu-release-upgrader does not recognize the
`mirrors://` URL format when the package sources from disco to eoan. As
a result during the upgrade process the sources list ends up almost
empty (only InRelease packages), and consequently the ubuntu-minimal
package is not found.

[Bug 1849803] Re: NMI watchdog: Watchdog detected hard LOCKUP on cpu

2019-10-25 Thread David Roberts
Another freeze, end of dmesg below. Given that zram keeps being
mentioned in the error logs, I've now uninstalled zram-config to see if
that helps.

Since kernel 5.2 there is no sound on my Broadwell-based laptop with
bdw-rt5677 driver. The laptop is a Chromebook Pixel 2015 (Samus)
converted to Linux with UEFI firmware by MrChromebox. There was no
problem with this component with 4.19.*, 5.0.* and 5.1.* kernels up
until 5.1.16.

Can confirm the behavior.
My Thunderbird Calendar is connected to SoGo 4.0.2 via CalDav by using TbSync
2.5 / CalDAV & CardDAV provider for TbSync 1.4
I have done the following:
- Exported the Calendar out of Thunderbird. Lots of calendar entries includet
the folowing error:
  X-LIC-ERROR;X-LIC-ERRORTYPE=PARAMETER-VALUE-PARSE-ERROR:Got a VALUE parameter
with an illegal type for property: VALUE=DURATION
- Deleted all error entries in the exported .ics file with an text editor
- Deleted all entries in Thunderbird calendar and synced with SoGo (all entries
disappered in Thunderbird and SoGo)
- Imported the above edited calendar .ics file in Thunderbird and synced with
SoGo.
- Exported the Calendar out of Thunderbird and Sogo again. In both exported
.ics files there are the following error entries existing again:
  X-LIC-ERROR;X-LIC-ERRORTYPE=PARAMETER-VALUE-PARSE-ERROR:Got a VALUE parameter
with an illegal type for property: VALUE=DURATION
- Made a new test calendar entry in Thunderbird WITHOUT a reminder entry.
Exported the Thunderbird and SoGo Calendar again. There
  have been no error entries in both .ics files.
- Made a new test calendar entry in Thunderbird WITH an reminder entry.
Exported the Thunderbird and SoGo Calendar. The error entry
  appears in the thunderbird .ics export file but NOT in the SoGo .ics export
file.

Note: The calendar entries witch include the X-LIC-ERROR entries are not
synced with my Android 9 smartphone via SoGo activesync. The entries are
not visible in the android calendar.

Hope this helps a bit.

[Bug 1849917] [NEW] Mouse cursor movement is unequally

2019-10-25 Thread Etamuk
Public bug reported:

After upgrading to Ubuntu 19.10 from 19.04 I noticed the mouse moves
unequally/choppy. I did a fresh install (deleting and overwriting 19.04 with
19.10).
For example: When I want to go to a button the cursor sometimes stops on the
way to it and moves on milliseconds later.
In Ubuntu Ubuntu 19.04 (which is my daily driver for now) this behavior is not
present.

Please let me now if I can add some further information.

[Bug 1849909] Re: VLC window left edge off of screen, cannot move

2019-10-25 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

I've experienced it before (but not recently excluding unrelated LXQt
issues), and in my case as I recall it was because of a change like
changing monitors (to lower resolution, or change in orientation, or
after disconnecting external monitor) that I saw as the cause; reversed
change briefly (ie. move window position) so issue was fixed (closed;
re-opened program so it & ignored it (it didn't occur again).

I've tried briefly to re-create it (Lubuntu 18.04), but was unable to.

I was able to drag `vlc` to a position where it was partially off-
screen, closed it, then when it was re-opened, the window opened in the
exact same position it was last time (ie. partially off-screen). It's
possible something like this that @Glenn has done (maybe with screen
orientation, whilst extra external display was connected, or a bad
mouse-movement, then the program was just closed with Alt-F4 or close
from panel etc. and it's re-opening to its last position).

[Bug 1849753] Re: AppArmor profile prohibits classic snap from inheriting file descriptors

2019-10-25 Thread Anders Kaseorg
Marking confirmed based on the forum reports.

To be clear, I’m not using ‘snap run’, just the ‘node’ that snap has put
in the PATH, which is /snap/bin/node (a symlink to /usr/bin/snap). Lots
of applications expect to be able to run ‘node’ from the PATH, including
the ‘node’ snap’s own ‘npm’, ‘npx’, ‘yarn’, and ‘yarnpkg’ scripts.

If /snap/node/current/bin/node is expected to work better, then maybe
it’s reasonable to ask why /snap/bin/node goes through /usr/bin/snap at
all for a classic snap? Could snap just set it up as a direct symlink to
/snap/node/current/bin/node and avoid this problem?

Re: [Bug 1848829] Re: upgrade from 19.04 to 19.10 failed due pip install of distro-info

2019-10-25 Thread Kent Frazier
I have multiple versions of python installed... not sure of the path
that was used .
However of the versions that may have been used ...
the only "distro" I see is

python3.8 -m pip list | grep distro
WARNING: pip is configured with locations that require TLS/SSL, however
the ssl module in Python is not available.
 > pip3 list | grep distro
distro?? 1.4.0
 > python3 -m pip list | grep distro
distro?? 1.4.0
 >python3.7 -m pip list | grep distro
distro?? 1.4.0
 > python -m pip list | grep distro
distro?? 1.4.0

I am now up and running on 19.10
I upgraded update-manager to version 1.19.10.15 (19.04 had an older
version)
That allowed update to occur.
I did have a problem with logging in after update. For some reason only
2 ids were available on the login screen (unity). One of which (Sophos
Anti-Virus) was disabled (it hadn't been listed before upgrade) and was
id (one less than my usual id, so maybe a one-off problem?), and
another account that I was able to log in to (with admin privileges) .
My usual account was not available for login. Settings showed only the
same two users noted above. I was able to open a terminal and su to my
normal ID, however. I ended up doing a deluser on my usual user account,
and then went into settings and added my usual account back. ...I think
all is well now...

[Bug 1849913] [NEW] urget resume from s2idle deep error

2019-10-25 Thread leo
Public bug reported:

My laptop is 'Dell xps13 9370 2 in 1 ' , I can perfectly install the ubuntu
19.10 version.
The default setting of '/sys/power/mem_sleep' is [s2idle] not deep. In the
[s2idle] mode it take
very long time (about 5 mins ) to resume from sleep and sometimes i have a
black screen when resume
from it.

After changing the /sys/power/mem_sleep to [deep] mode which is said to save
more energy, I got
a total black screen problem.

[Bug 940631]

2019-10-25 Thread Kai Engert
When starting multiple network actions in parallel, more than one might
require access to the saved logins. And if the secure password store
hasn't yet been unlocked with the master password, then each of those
parallel actions might trigger a request to unlock it.

The only way to fix this reliably is to implement something smart at the
code layer that brings up the master password prompt, which is in
mozilla/security/manager.

That code would have to prevent the race, by detecting if the first
prompt has already been opened, and all consecutive requests would have
to be put on hold, as long as the first prompt is shown or retrying.
After the prompt has been completed or canceled, all queued up requests
to unlock must be signaled to continue.

[Bug 1849907] Re: Add Online Account Nextcloud no Apply button

2019-10-25 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
Thanks for report. ubuntu-docs is for bugs in the desktop documentation,
though, and this is apparently not about that. Changing affected
package.

The window on my 19.10 (attached) does not look exactly as the one in
your screenshot. I have a "Connect" button at the top right which
probably would be clickable if I filled the fields.

Which desktop environment are you on?

If you are on Ubuntu GNOME, did you possibly change the appearance
settings somehow, maybe in Tweaks? (I imagine that a possible
explanation is that you enabled something which is not compatible with
the design of that Nextcloud window.)

[Bug 1849909] [NEW] VLC window left edge off of screen, cannot move

2019-10-25 Thread Glenn Brumfield
Public bug reported:

Lubuntu 18.04 64-bit & current updates, VLC version 3.0.8-0ubuntu18.04.1

Has consistently occurred for quite a while now; I was waiting to see if
a fix was coming out.

Upon opening VLC whether from command-line or menu, the window opens at
the upper-left edge of my screen with the left 1/4-inch of the window
off the left side of the screen. This does not occur with other
applications, or the 32-bit version of VLC in Lubuntu 18.04 on a
different computer.

VLC window that is partiallt off the screen cannot be moved to the right
or down, but can be maximized & minimized.

This may be an issue on Lubuntu only.

[Bug 1849880] Re: Mouse-Scrolling Changes Drop-Down Selections During Scroll Navigation

2019-10-25 Thread Lonnie Lee Best
** Description changed:

  The Gnome Sound Settings tab contains enough options to where you have
  to scroll down to see them all.

  Since the scrollbar is so narrow, I use my mouse-scroll-wheel to achieve
  this scroll navigation.

  However, while scrolling with the intention of "navigation", if the
- mouse-cursor passes over the Output Device drop-down-menu, it
- inadvertently changes the drop-down's selection.
+ mouse-cursor passes over the Output Device drop-down-menu, or any of the
+ slider controls, it inadvertently changes those options.

  The ability to change drop-down-menu selections, using the mouse-scroll-
- wheel is convenient in some cases, but it become problematic when the
+ wheel is convenient in some cases, but it becomes problematic when the
  user is simply intending to do scroll navigation.

  I can see a non-advance user accidentally changing sound settings that
  they had no intention of changing in this design. Plus, even if they do
  notice the inadvertent changes, they might not know "what to change it
  back to".

  It may be better to disable scroll driven option selection changes in
  these menus.

[Bug 1848692] Re: Rygel autostarts on Ubuntu 19.10

2019-10-25 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Hum, right, the change should work for the cases where rygel is installed for
the first time with the fixed package but is not enough for upgrades, I need to
have another look to what can be done in that case.
The new install case should be testable by doing an dpkg --purge rygel and by
doing a dpkg -i of the SRU version then

[Bug 1849881] Re: package postgresql-11 11.5-1 failed to install/upgrade: installed postgresql-11 package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 1

2019-10-25 Thread Andreas Hasenack
Thanks for taking the time and filing this bug in Ubuntu.

Looking at the data you provided, I wonder:
● postgresql.service - PostgreSQL database server
   Loaded: loaded
(]8;;file://zombie/etc/systemd/system/postgresql.service/etc/systemd/system/postgresql.service]8;;;
 enabled; vendor preset: enabled)
   Active: failed (Result: exit-code) since Fri 2019-10-25

  Process: 24862 ExecStart=/var/lib/postgresql/12/main -D /usr/local/pgsql/data
(code=exited, status=203/EXEC)
 Main PID: 24862 (code=exited, status=203/EXEC)

Why is there mention of postgresql version 12 in there? Eoan (19.10)
shipped with postgresql 11.5.

You also seem to have a systemd override in place
(/etc/systemd/system/postgresql.service?
file://zombie/etc/systemd/system/postgresql.service?).

[Bug 1849904] [NEW] lxd init assumes ipv6 is available

2019-10-25 Thread Peter Petrakis
Public bug reported:

This host has ipv6 disabled at the kernel level for security/privacy
reasons. When running through the 'lxd init' answer script taking
defaults for just about everything. Concerning network ipv4/v6 support
the default is 'auto'. It is reasonable to assume that 'auto' would do a
little interrogation to determine if ipv4/6 is actually enabled on the
host. Instead it makes an assumption and abruptly exits because the proc
file it's trying to manipulate literally doesn't exist.

lxc snap 3.18 on Ubuntu 18.04 host.

A simple "does this filepath exist" before trying to write to the path
would serve well for the "auto" mode to fail safe and automatically
disable said networking stack. I admit ipv4 is likely always available
but ipv6 could be disabled for a variety of reasons. Bonus points for
printing a warning if neither stack is available.

[Bug 1849669] Re: do-release-upgrade (19.04 -> 19.10) aborts

2019-10-25 Thread Brian Murray
Could you please run 'apport-collect 1849669' in a terminal? This will
collect some log files from your system which will help sorting out what
is going on. Additionally, if you could include the output of 'apt-cache
policy distro-info' that would be great.

[Bug 1849890] [NEW] Please add brcmfmac43430a0-sdio.bin to linux-firmware

2019-10-25 Thread Jason Oliveira
Public bug reported:

brcm/brcmfmac43430a0-* is needed to be added to the firmware bundle.
This will make devices such as Acer One 10 (S1003) have working
bluetooth and WiFi, which is always a good thing to have when booting
off a tablet via live image.

[Bug 1837673] Re: Certbot will be unable to create new ACME accounts

2019-10-25 Thread Andreas Hasenack
bionic verification

Verifying current version uses the v1 endpoint:
$ sudo certbot run
...
In bionic, for some reason (debug level?) the acme url is not shown in the
normal output, so I checked the log at /var/log/letsencrypt/letsencrypt.log and
there it was, v1 was used:

2019-10-25 21:15:35,657:DEBUG:urllib3.connectionpool:Starting new HTTPS
connection (1): acme-v01.api.letsencrypt.org

Now let's update to the packages in proposed:
 *** 0.27.0-1~ubuntu18.04.1 500
500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic-proposed/universe amd64
Packages

And run again:

$ sudo certbot run
(...)

This time the log shows v2 was used:
2019-10-25 21:22:33,050:DEBUG:urllib3.connectionpool:Starting new HTTPS
connection (1): acme-v02.api.letsencrypt.org

Testing fake renew also uses v02 and works:
$ sudo certbot --dry-run renew
(...)
** DRY RUN: simulating 'certbot renew' close to cert expiry
** (The test certificates below have not been saved.)

Congratulations, all renewals succeeded. The following certs have been renewed:
  /etc/letsencrypt/live/certbot-test.justgohome.co.uk/fullchain.pem (success)
** DRY RUN: simulating 'certbot renew' close to cert expiry
** (The test certificates above have not been saved.)
(...)

Revoking:
$ sudo certbot revoke --cert-path
/etc/letsencrypt/live/certbot-test.justgohome.co.uk/fullchain.pem

[Bug 1798364] Re: Lubuntu 18.10 - screenfetch wrongly says LXDE (not LXQt)

2019-10-25 Thread Chris Guiver
@wxl I upgraded my debian-testing box last night (#lubuntu-dev) so it
obtained the 3.9.0-1, copied to code to a NFS server and ran on my
primary [Lubuntu] 20.04 box; it reports LXDE :(

@kc2bez (Dan) replied "There have been 15 commits since the release and
the ones needeed are in there.

[Bug 1837673] Re: Certbot will be unable to create new ACME accounts

2019-10-25 Thread Andreas Hasenack
My xenial verification

First, reproducing the problem:
$ sudo certbot run
Saving debug log to /var/log/letsencrypt/letsencrypt.log
Plugins selected: Authenticator apache, Installer apache
Enter email address (used for urgent renewal and security notices) (Enter 'c' to
cancel): andr...@canonical.com
Starting new HTTPS connection (1): acme-v01.api.letsencrypt.org
(...)

I stopped there, as today the v1 endpoint is working, but this bug is
about changing certbot to use v2, so the above, even though it didn't
fail, is enough to confirm it's using v1.

So I cancel, and upgrade to the version in proposed:

 *** 0.27.0-1~ubuntu16.04.1 500
500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial-proposed/universe amd64
Packages

And now it uses v2:
$ sudo certbot run
Saving debug log to /var/log/letsencrypt/letsencrypt.log
Plugins selected: Authenticator apache, Installer apache
Enter email address (used for urgent renewal and security notices) (Enter 'c' to
cancel): andr...@canonical.com
Starting new HTTPS connection (1): acme-v02.api.letsencrypt.org
(...)

Testing fake renewal works:
$ sudo certbot --dry-run renew
Saving debug log to /var/log/letsencrypt/letsencrypt.log

Congratulations, all renewals succeeded. The following certs have been renewed:
  /etc/letsencrypt/live/certbot-test.justgohome.co.uk/fullchain.pem (success)
** DRY RUN: simulating 'certbot renew' close to cert expiry
** (The test certificates above have not been saved.)
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

IMPORTANT NOTES:
 - Your account credentials have been saved in your Certbot
   configuration directory at /etc/letsencrypt. You should make a
   secure backup of this folder now. This configuration directory will
   also contain certificates and private keys obtained by Certbot so
   making regular backups of this folder is ideal.

Now let's revoke it (note it also uses the v2 endpoint):
$ sudo certbot --cert-path
/etc/letsencrypt/live/certbot-test.justgohome.co.uk/fullchain.pem revoke
Saving debug log to /var/log/letsencrypt/letsencrypt.log
Starting new HTTPS connection (1): acme-v02.api.letsencrypt.org

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Congratulations! You have successfully revoked the certificate that was located
at /etc/letsencrypt/live/certbot-test.justgohome.co.uk/fullchain.pem

And the systemd timer is active:
$ sudo systemctl list-timers

xenial verification succeeded.
