[Bug 1849859] Re: error when connecting to smb server

2019-10-30 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Hiho,
keine Angst "von Interesse" ist erst einmal jede Meldung. Ich selbst bin nur
nicht so fit mit dem Druckteil von Samba und Co.

I think we should add cups and system-config-printer bug tasks as I
think this isn't really a samba things.

Ich Fasse mal zusammen:
- printer setup that worked with 18.04, but fails with 20.04
- no authentication configured on the printer side
- authentication pop up then fails missing said authentication (see trace in
terminal.bmp)
- Maybe related to bug 1849859 or similar

** Also affects: cups (Ubuntu)
   Importance: Undecided
   Status: New

** Also affects: system-config-printer (Ubuntu)

** Changed in: cups (Ubuntu)

[Bug 1850748] [NEW] hud-tools depends on obsolete python-polib

2019-10-30 Thread Steve Langasek
Public bug reported:

The Ubuntu-specific hud-tools package depends on python-polib, which has
been dropped from the polib source package in Debian and focal-proposed.
To remain in Ubuntu 20.04 and beyond, this package will need to be
updated to not depend on python-polib.

It also appears that the hud-tools package does not comply with the
python packaging policy, because it depends on python-polib and python-
lxml but does not depend on python at all. Given that future versions
of the system will not ship /usr/bin/python as a python2 interpreter,
it's important that this be fixed as well if the intent is to continue
shipping hud-tools.

Re: [Bug 1850513] Re: package samba 2:4.3.11+dfsg-0ubuntu0.16.04.23 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2019-10-30 Thread bb
Hi Bryce,

I was able to resolve by following this guide

https://askubuntu.com/questions/225786/how-do-i-re-install-samba#225802

|sudo apt-get purge samba samba-common sudo apt-get install samba |

I do not recall changing anything in smb.conf except the following

|[GLOBAL] client min protocol = SMB2 client max protocol = SMB3|

I believe I was following
https://askubuntu.com/questions/1009455/smb-2-or-3-with-samba-version-4-3-11

and the goal was to mount SMB2 share (but it never worked).

After reinstalling samba the error appears to be gone.

Regards,

Bojidar

[Bug 1850746] Re: mythtv-backend-setup fails to add user to group mythtv under XFCE

2019-10-30 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Sorry, I don't understand what your issue is, but you've made reference
to `gksu` which has been depreciated in Debian & Ubuntu.

`gksu` was last available in Ubuntu 17.10, and shouldn't be locatable
for any release after that having been replaced by alternatives
(`pkexec` for example) (https://jeremy.bicha.net/2018/04/18/gksu-
removed-from-ubuntu/)

[Bug 1393403] Re: dovecot unable to create files in /var/mail

2019-10-30 Thread Bryce Harrington
Some additional research that touches on this same problem in Ubuntu:

https://www.softprayog.in/troubleshooting/dovecot-imap-error-open-var-mail-username-failed
https://wiki2.dovecot.org/MailLocation/mbox#A.2BAC8-var.2BAC8-mail.2BAC8_dotlocks
https://serverfault.com/questions/814398/dovecot-missing-w-perm-var-mail-were-not-in-group-8mail
https://askubuntu.com/questions/118416/dovecot-cant-compact-mail-folder-var-mail-username

There are a few different ways to set up where Dovecot delivers emails,
but /var/mail is one of the more standard locations and perhaps
configuring for it should be made more streamlined. I agree with Robie
that this work would best be done upstream.

The workarounds are pretty widely documented, so I also agree with him
this is not urgent to fix, and should remain in the backlog for now.

[Bug 1850746] [NEW] mythtv-backend-setup fails to add user to group mythtv under XFCE

2019-10-30 Thread Peter D.
Public bug reported:

Running Mythtv-backend-setup from the XFCE menu looks like it is adding
the user to the group "mythtv", but does not. The user has to add
himself manually, either by editing /etc/groups or with adduser `whoami`
mythtv.

The meta package is mythtv.
The package is mythtv-backend.
The file is called /usr/bin/mythtv-setup.
There is a call to check_groups, which is in
/usr/share/mythtv/dialogue_functions.sh
It has the line;
$SU_TYPE adduser ...
Su type seems to be "gksu" for XFCE and Gnome.

psd@EE:/usr/share/mythtv$ sudo apt-get install gksu
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Package gksu is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source

E: Package 'gksu' has no installation candidate

The bug also exists in older versions of Xubuntu; bionic, disco,
probably more. I am not sure about other desktops.

2019-10-30 Thread Bryce Harrington
Hi bb,

Would you be able to run the following commands, and attach their output
to this bug report, please?

`systemctl status smbd.service`
`journalctl -xe`

Offhand, from the AptOrdering.txt file attached to this bug it looks
like the upgrade may have been trying to ask you a question about how to
handle your samba configuration, and timed out or something. If this is
true, you might be able to get your upgrade back on track via running
`sudo apt-get -f install` from a terminal window.

I also notice an error in the CIFSMounts.txt file, although that might
be an unrelated programming error (i.e. trying to pass a pipe character
to the mount command).

[Bug 1850272] Re: nginx wont be started

2019-10-30 Thread Bryce Harrington
It may be that your system has been upgraded from an earlier Ubuntu
version and some of its config/service files have desync'd from correct
defaults, but to check this we'll need to look at some of these files.
To the best of my knowledge, just running `systemctl enable nginx` as
you've done should be enough to get it starting on boot, so I'm guessing
there's some other missing config.

Please attach the following to this bug report:

/lib/systemd/system/nginx.service
/etc/nginx/nginx.conf
Output of `dpkg -l | grep -i nginx`
Output of `sudo journalctl -u nginx`
Output of `sudo nginx -t`

I *think* that should provide enough info to figure out what's going on.
If there are any other logs or config files you notice while collecting
these that look relevant, please include them as well.

The fix is likely going to be some tweak to your nginx.service file. If
you'd like to tinker directly, you might find LP: #1818574 of interest;
it's a slightly different problem but probably a similar fix. There's
some good systemd configuration guides on the web you can refer to for
ideas. Otherwise, add the above files here and one of us will take a
look.

[Bug 1848834] Re: ClusterMon resource creation core-dumps while created with extra_option -E

2019-10-30 Thread Manisha
Hi Paride,
Thanks for the reply.

The issue got solved after creating the resource with -e option i.e.
pcs resource create newRes ClusterMon user="root" extra_options="-E
/usr/local/bin/new.sh -e "

The catch was, pacemaker version 1.1.14 does not throw any error while
running "pcs resource create" without -e option. But in
/var/log/messages it shows that there is segfault.

However, in pacemaker version 1.1.18 the create command without -e
 works fine.

Did you try the steps in Ubuntu 16.04 and pacemaker 1.1.14?

Regards,
Manisha.

apport information

** Attachment added: "WifiSyslog.txt"

https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1850702/+attachment/5301622/+files/WifiSyslog.txt

** Description changed:

I can't get sound of my laptop (Samsung Notebook 7 Force) through the
headphone jack. The speakers work fine.

When I plug a headphone, I can hear the sound being played very faintly.
If I bump the volume to the maximum, that is. The sound is very
distorted, like a buzz effect being applied over it.

I noticed that if I delete /.config/pulse the distortion goes away, but
the sound remains very low. After some time, the buzzing effect comes
  back.

[Bug 1850744] [NEW] amdgpu_device_ip_resume_phase2 errors

2019-10-30 Thread Kai Groner
Public bug reported:

I am using a Radeon RX 580. This setup was stable with Ubuntu 19.04.
Since upgrading to 19.10 it's failed to resume from S3 sleep 3 times out
of 15. The console will be unresponsive, but the machine is still
accessible over the network.

Here are some of the errors from dmesg (the second block happened on two
boots). Complete kernel logs from all three boots are attached.

icons in the dock (changed to dock by dash-to-dock gnome shell
extensions via chrome coz. i don't like the default left panel)

can still be guessed by mouse-hover from above the other full screen
application AND more interestingly those icon-apps can be opened by
left-clicking the mouse when cursor is showing the icon-tags from above
the other application window.

(like here in my ss, i can open vlc from above the browser window and
which is not expected)

this should be a bug i guess. please have a review. thank you.

[Bug 1850627] Re: Right click happens automatically, disturbs work

2019-10-30 Thread Dilip
M105 mouse has B100 written on it. So, I guess both are the same. I ran
the command with the mouse which is having the issue.

I used Wayland a couple of months back due to curiosity. The main
problem I had was VLC crashing without any reason. I will try to find
the bug ID if possible. I am not sure when I will have free time to do
that.

[Bug 1850627] Re: Right click happens automatically, disturbs work

2019-10-30 Thread Daniel van Vugt
It sounds like you're saying the bug only occurs with the B100 mouse and
not the current M105 mouse. Is that right?

Also, if you encounter crashes with Wayland then those are preventing us
from further understanding this bug so we also need to understand the
crashes. If you have a current bug ID for the crashes then please
mention it. If you don't then please follow these instructions to report
the Wayland crashes:

[Bug 1850702] Re: [Samsung Notebook 7 Pro, Realtek ALC256, headphone jack] Headphone sound is faint and distorted

2019-10-30 Thread Filipe Garrett
First of all, thanks for replying!

I did this already when I noticed the problem a couple days ago with my
main pair and with some gaming gear to no avail. But, since you asked, I
did it again with all the wired headphones I could find around, even
some crappy cellphone headphones and the results are the same: extremely
low sound and heavily distorted. I even tried with a P2 cable extender
and the problem remains, I'm 100% sure that it isn't my headphones.

Also tried all those headphones and cable extender on Windows and
everything works fine.

(all of them work perfectly on other devices running Android, on my PS4
through the DualShock jack and with my smart TV)

It's important to point out that I know of at least another user of this
machine facing the same issue. He posted about HDMI output problems -
that I can confirm on my laptop as well - on the Linux Mint (link down
below) forums and I got in touch with him, so I don't think that this
has something to do with the physical connection, specially since the
distortion goes away for a bit if you delete the /.config/pulse
directory.

I didn't file a bug report about the HDMI output because it isn't as important
as the headphone output for my workflow.

support it here. But just in case the problem is an Ubuntu bug please
try booting with vanilla Ubuntu 18.04:

http://releases.ubuntu.com/18.04/

If you need to install the OS in order to reproduce the bug then you
should be able to do that on a second USB stick.

[Bug 1850739] [NEW] Revert the firmware update for sound/sof

2019-10-30 Thread Hui Wang
Public bug reported:

I submitted a firmware update for sound/sof, the tracking bug number is:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1847250

Recently we found this update introduced one problem for cometlake
platforms, cometlake need to check PV bit when loading the firmware, but
this update doesn't set the PV bit for cometlake, as a result, on
cometlake platforms, it always fails to load the firmware.

So we should revert this update

[Bug 1850702] Re: [Samsung Notebook 7 Pro, Realtek ALC256, headphone jack] Headphone sound is faint and distorted

2019-10-30 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks for the bug report. This kind of sound problem is usually a bad
connection between the audio socket and the headphones. Usually it is
because of the differing standards in common use:

https://www.cablechick.com.au/blog/understanding-trrs-and-audio-jacks/

and/or just slight imperfections in how the connectors come into
contact.

So please try some different headphones as a test. Please also try using
any kind of adapter or other audio cable you have to see if it gets a
better connection and improves the sound.

[Bug 1850738] [NEW] Intel Bluetooth AX201 HarrisonPeak (HrP) firmware causes system hang in deep suspend

2019-10-30 Thread You-Sheng Yang
Public bug reported:

When system has been paired with BLE devices, bluetooth firmware may
fail to suspend, or even hangs the whole system that it can only be
rebooted with SysRq keys.

[Reproduce steps]:

1. pair with BLE devices. They doesn't have to stay connected/powered on
during the test.

2. make sure Bluetooth is now receiving LE ADV broadcats, which should
leave messages in dmesg like:

Bluetooth: hci0: advertising data len corrected

3. suspend the system a few times. With 5.0.0-1025-oem-osp1 kernel,
symptoms would usually appear in <= 5 times.

[Results]

1. one may observed following errors in between the suspend messages:

 PM: pci_pm_suspend(): hcd_pci_suspend+0x0/0x30 returns -16
 PM: dpm_run_callback(): pci_pm_suspend+0x0/0x150 returns -16
PM: Device :00:14.0 failed to suspend async: error -16
PM: Some devices failed to suspend, or early wake event detected

where :00:14.0 is the xHCI Usb hub.

2. with or without above error messages appear first, system may hang
and leave only "PM: suspend entry (deep)" in the syslog.

[Notes]

* kernels newer than v5.2.1, inclusive of latest v5.4-rc5, still have
those PM suspend errors, but they doesn't seem to cause system block.
Instead, they may resume immediately.

[Bug 1850681] Re: TREKSTOR Primebook C11B touchpad and touchscreen not working

2019-10-30 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks for the bug report. Your kernel log mentions some errors
regarding what looks like a Synaptics touchpad:

[5.550275] i2c_hid i2c-SYNA3602:00: i2c-SYNA3602:00 supply vdd not found,
using dummy regulator
[5.550304] i2c_hid i2c-SYNA3602:00: Linked as a consumer to regulator.0
[5.550306] i2c_hid i2c-SYNA3602:00: i2c-SYNA3602:00 supply vddl not found,
using dummy regulator

[5.568184] i2c_hid i2c-SYNA3602:00: unexpected HID descriptor

[Bug 1850635] Re: Some applications don't redraw their windows correctly

2019-10-30 Thread Daniel van Vugt
You seem to be using FVWM and the old Intel driver (not the current
one). So I would try eliminating those as possible causes.

1. Does the bug also occur in Gnome Shell Xorg sessions? (log into
'Ubuntu')

2. Please edit or move or delete /etc/X11/xorg.conf so that Xorg does
not load the 'intel' driver. We would prefer it to load the newer
'modeset' driver.

[Bug 1850668] Re: No conozco el error

2019-10-30 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.

At a minimum, we need:
1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem.
2. The behavior you expected.
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 1850646] Re: Sound output device switched on DP/MST connect

2019-10-30 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Switching on connect is an intentional design choice for Ubuntu. If you
would like to disable it then please just comment out this line:

  load-module module-switch-on-connect

in /etc/pulse/default.pa

So this isn't a bug, but it does seem to overlap with bug 1847570 so
please see that too.

(I'm not sure if gnome-settings-daemon is the right product for this

I have things so that pressing ShiftL+ShiftR together will change my
keyboard layout.

This works fine. However, when I press that key combination, the
current window appears to lose focus and regain it instantly. This is a
problem with buggy toolkits (cough) that do things like committing or
canceling text entries when they lose/gain focus. For example,
GtkTreeView will cancel editing, and Firefox will do funny things
depending on which web page has entry widgets in it.

This didn't seem to happen a few Gnome versions ago (maybe it was caused
by the switch to ibus?).

Here is the xev log for what it's worth. After the initial ShiftL

Well, yes because it's a shortcut like any other now which means we use
X passive grabs which causes FocusOut/In events indeed. I don't know

Can confirm that.

And that should be fixed, it's useful for window or widget to do
something on focus loss and it's very common to type a message in
