[Bug 1851094] Re: W: Failed to fetch http://kr.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/xenial-backports/InRelease Unable to connect to kr.archive.ubuntu.com:http:

2019-11-02 Thread Tom Reynolds
Thank you for your report.

$ host kr.archive.ubuntu.com
kr.archive.ubuntu.com is an alias for ftp.kaist.ac.kr.
ftp.kaist.ac.kr has address 103.22.220.133

This mirror server is currently unavailable. This is likely a temporary
issue. I have notified the relevant team at Canonical, who are tracking
this incident as RT 34569.

https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+archivemirrors#yui_3_10_3_1_1572758258208_60
lists alternative mirror servers you can use at this time.

As such, at this time, the issue you reported appears to be (both a
service non-availability issue which has been filed with the Ubuntu
mirrors team and) a support topic rather than a software bug. I am
therefore changing the state of this report to incomplete - please
provide further information if you still consider this to be a software
bug.

Thank you.

I just installed popOS 19.10 an an Optimus laptop, nvidia option. Out of
the box you get gdm3 and tear-free prime-sync; it uses Jeremy Soller's
solution (root rights granted in Xwrapper)

[Bug 1851098] [NEW] no changelogs shown after version 1:16.04.16 update

2019-11-02 Thread Jeff
Public bug reported:

Description:Ubuntu 16.04.6 LTS
Release:16.04
update-manager:
  Installed: 1:16.04.16
  Candidate: 1:16.04.16

I noticed lately that changelogs were not downloading for any Ubuntu packages
in update-manager.
Running from terminal I saw this error:

  File "/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/UpdateManager/Core/MyCache.py", line
245, in get_changelog_or_news
"https locations with username/password are not supported to fetch
changelogs"

There are no username/passwords in the changelog pool uri.
I believe I tracked the error to lines 242-243 in MyCache.py:

res = urlsplit(uri)
if res.scheme == "https" and res.username != "":

Documentation for 'urlsplit()' indicates res.username should return a 'None'
object, not a empty string.
I believe changing the scheme to "https" revealed this bug. The following works
properly:

if res.scheme == "https" and res.username is not None:

[Bug 1851096] [NEW] python-otherstuf, python-stuf: Ubuntu-specific, unmaintained, python2-only, depends on removed python-parse

2019-11-02 Thread Steve Langasek
Public bug reported:

python-otherstuf depends on python-stuf depends on python-parse, which
has been removed from Debian unstable as part of the python2
deprecation. These binary dependencies are now blocking the removal of
python-parse from focal.

If someone wants to keep these packages in Ubuntu, they should upload a
python3 version of the packages in the next week; otherwise they will be
removed from focal to allow the python transition to continue.

If someone does decide later they wish to maintain a python3 version of
these packages, they can always be uploaded again.

[Bug 1851093] [NEW] txlongpoll and oops-amqp: python2 only, Ubuntu-specific, unmaintained and depends on removed packages

2019-11-02 Thread Steve Langasek
Public bug reported:

python-txlongpoll depends on python-oops-amqp, which depends on python-
amqplib, which has been dropped from Debian unstable as part of the
python2 deprecation. Neither of these packages have seen an upload
since trusty, 5 years ago, and they have no other reverse-dependencies
in the archive.

Either someone needs to upload a python3 version of these packages in
the next week or so, or they will be removed from the archive for focal.

If they do get removed, they can always be added back later if someone
decides to reupload them.

[Bug 1851091] Re: Fresh Eoan upgrade fails to boot dom0 with message "decoding failed" (kernel 5.3.0)

2019-11-02 Thread David
I should add two comments:

- I can boot in non-xen ubuntu with the same kernel that doesn't work as
dom0.

- Since I found reports of "decoding failed" issues due to the change to
lz4 compression in 19.10, I tried changing back to gzip compression in
/etc/initramfs-tools/initramfs.conf (and running update-initramfs -u),
and this didn't help.

This issue also prevents importing CSV files stored in the user's home

You need to come up with a way to allow snap applications to do *any*
action the user explicitly initiates. Only automated dotfile access
should be blocked.

[Bug 1844853] Re: IBus no longer works in Qt applications after upgrade

2019-11-02 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
** Description changed:

  [Impact]

IBus was broken for Qt applications as a regression due to the fix of
CVE-2019-14822. As a result the IBus patch was disabled temporarily,
which fixed IBus from a usability POV.

- The real fix has been made in glib2.0, and the proposed updates in the
- below PPA will allow the IBus patch to be re-enabled.
-
- https://launchpad.net/~gunnarhj/+archive/ubuntu/glib2.0
+ The real fix has been made in glib2.0, and the updates in -proposed will
+ allow the IBus patch to be re-enabled.

  [Test Case]

   * On a standard Ubuntu {eoan,disco,bionic,xenial} installation
-- Upgrade the glib2.0 packages from
- {eoan,disco,bionic,xenial}-proposed
+    - Upgrade the glib2.0 packages from
+  {eoan,disco,bionic,xenial}-proposed
     - Upgrade the ibus packages from
   https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-security-proposed/+archive/ubuntu/ppa
     - Install some IBus input method, e.g. ibus-libpinyin
     - Install some Qt application, e.g. Kate

  * Relogin (maybe reboot)

  * Add the input method to the input sources

  * Open the Qt app and try to input something using the IBus IM

=> Find that the transliteration works as expected

  [Regression Potential]

The applicable patches origin from glib upstream:
  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/glib/merge_requests/1176
Consequently the changes have been reviewed by the glib maintainer, but also
tested by the IBus maintainer, by me (gunnarhj), and - of course - the author
Simon McVittie. The changes have been in Debian unstable since 2019-10-30.

  [Original description]

  Kubuntu Release 18.04.3 LTS

  Expected behavior:
ibus continues working as before after applying security update
1.5.17-ubuntu5.1 from version 1.5.17-ubuntu5.

  Observed behavior:
ibus is not usable anymore in Qt applications.

After updating ibus and the related packages ibus-gtk, ibus-gtk3,
libibus-1.0-5 and gir1.2-ibus-1.0 all from version 1.5.17-ubuntu5 to
1.5.17-ubuntu5.1, I can no longer use ibus in Qt applications. Using
shift-space no longer changes the selected input method and even when i switch
to the mozc input method in a gtk application, i can not use it in any Qt
applications.
When starting qtconfig in a terminal, I also get the following message:

  Bus::open: Connect ibus failed!
  IBusInputContext::createInputContext: no connection to ibus-daemon

This bug was not present in version 1.5.17-3ubuntu5 and I also confirmed
that downgrading the packages to version 1.5.17-3ubuntu4 restores ibus
  functionality in Qt applications.

[Bug 1851067] Re: Screen Lock Recovery has Unnecessary Delays

2019-11-02 Thread Lonnie Lee Best
** Description changed:

You can turn "Sreen Lock" off using gnome-control-center > Privacy >
- Screen Lock : Off.
+ Screen Lock : Off:

- However, this is bad terminology because you screen will still go into
- the exact same "Screen Lock" state upon an inactivity timeout, but the
- only difference is that you don't have to enter your password to regain
- access to the desktop.
+ center/uploads/62e176ed49faf1defaf6e4a36ad86f77/ScreenLock.png
+
+ **Side-note:** this is bad terminology because your screen will still go
+ into the exact same state that "Screen Lock: On" accomplishes (upon an
+ inactivity timeout), but the only difference is that you won't have to
+ enter your password to regain access to the desktop. I would have named
+ this "Require Password Authentication After Inactivity Timeout" (to me
+ wordy is better than unclear).

While this accomplishes "not having to re-enter your password when
coming back from an inactivity timeout", I'm very dissatisfied with a
- couple of behaviors.
+ couple of things.

  1) After reaching an "inactivity timeout" that "locks" your screen, you
cannot unlock your screen by simply moving your mouse; you have to press
- enter. I want to be able to accomplish this also by moving my mouse.
+ the "enter" key. I want to be able to accomplish this also by moving my
+ mouse.

  2) Even if you press the enter key, to come out of "lock mode", it takes
too long before you can interact with the applications you had open. I
expect this to be instantaneous! If I were coming out of a suspended
state, I could understand some delay. However, I'm not coming out of a
suspended state, I just coming out of a screen lock.

I do not like how this works. The whole purpose of this, as far as I'm
concerned, is to increase the lifespan of my display monitors. All I
want this to do, when a inactivity timeout occurs, is turn off all my
monitor, and the only delay I expect, when coming back to my desktop, is
what ever delay my monitor causes; the desktop should be fully available
even before my monitor starts to display the desktop again.

Having to press Enter and waiting 5 or 10 seconds before I can start
working is NOT something that anyone wants.

+ Also, there should be separate setting for "blank screen x time", and
+ "monitor power off after x time".
+
+ My ideal settings would to make the screen go black after 5 minutes of
+ inactively and to turn my monitors completely off after 15 minutes of
+ inactively, and I'd like to control whether each of these requires
+ password authentication or not. On the 5 minute one, I personally would
+ note require a password, but I would require a password after monitor
+ going off. However, on either of these, I expect the desktop to be fully
+ functional immediately after coming out of these states. At the very
+ least please remove these unnecessary delays.
+

[Bug 1851065] Re: installing ubuntu crashed with hd error

2019-11-02 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

This failure looks like it was caused by corrupted install media, or
device failure. eg. look in the logs and you'll see messages like these
:-

Nov 2 18:57:09 ubuntu kernel: [ 331.020871] SQUASHFS error: zlib
decompression failed, data probably corrupt
Nov 2 18:57:09 ubuntu kernel: [ 331.020875] SQUASHFS error:
squashfs_read_data failed to read block 0x23a6805

Examining the information you have given us, this does not appear to be
a useful bug report so I am closing it, as it appears to be a bad
download or faulty device (or bad write-to-device). If you believe I'm
in error, please leave a comment explaining why and change the status
back to 'New'. I suggest you verify your ISO download, and use the
'check disc for defects' option to validate your media before install to
ensure a good download & write.

[Bug 1851067] [NEW] Screen Lock Recovery has Unnecessary Delays

2019-11-02 Thread Lonnie Lee Best
Public bug reported:

You can turn "Sreen Lock" off using gnome-control-center > Privacy >
Screen Lock : Off.

However, this is bad terminology because you screen will still go into
the exact same "Screen Lock" state upon an inactivity timeout, but the
only difference is that you don't have to enter your password to regain
access to the desktop.

While this accomplishes "not having to re-enter your password when
coming back from an inactivity timeout", I'm very dissatisfied with a
couple of behaviors.

1) After reaching an "inactivity timeout" that "locks" your screen, you
cannot unlock your screen by simply moving your mouse; you have to press
enter. I want to be able to accomplish this also by moving my mouse.

[Bug 1743592] Re: NGINX fails to start/install/upgrade if IPv6 is completely disabled.

2019-11-02 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package nginx - 1.17.5-0ubuntu1

---
nginx (1.17.5-0ubuntu1) focal; urgency=medium

  * New upstream release (1.17.5) - full changelog available from
http://nginx.org/en/CHANGES
  * Remaining Ubuntu-specific changes:
- debian/patches/ubuntu-branding.patch: add Ubuntu branding (refreshed)
- d/{control,rules,nginx-core.*}: add new binary package for main,
nginx-core, which contains only source-tarball-included modules
  and no third-party modules.
- debian/tests/control: add nginx-core test.
- debian/apport/source_nginx.py: Add apport hooks for additional bug
  information gathering.
- debian/nginx-common.install: Add install rule for apport hooks.
- d/nginx-{core,light,full,extras}.postinst: Add checks for whether
port 80 is in use or not to determine whether or not to attempt
starting of the NGINX service during install/upgrade
- d/control: Add dependencies to nginx-{core,light,full,extras} on
`iproute2` as the postinst scripts now use `ss` to determine if
Port 80 is open or not.
- d/rules: Enable --with-compat build option for all nginx package
  flavors
- d/{control,rules,copyright,modules/http-geoip2*}: Add GeoIP2 third party
module to nginx-full and nginx-extras (and use proper DEP5 syntax for
  d/copyright).
  * New Ubuntu-specific changes:
- d/conf/sites-available/default: Update default nginx site configuration
file to remove the IPv6 listening line so that servers running without
IPv6 enabled at all on the system will start nginx properly.

[Bug 1847892] Re: large performance regression (~30-40%) in wifi with 19.10 / 5.3 kernel

2019-11-02 Thread arQon
Okay - the 18.04.3 release I tested in September, which was fine, has
5.0.0-23.

-29 is broken, as mentioned above. That's a pretty narrow window to work with.
I'd prefer it if someone from Canonical took it from here.
(Heck, there are probably few enough commits to that driver in that timeframe
that I could find the bad one more easily just by browsing the source than
getting that machine to build it).

Since it's the HWE stack that's broken, I could still install 18.04 from the
image I have and switch back to the original Bionic kernel series, though it's
anybody's guess if the same regression was merged into 4.15 again as well.
Having to do a fresh install sucks pretty hard, but I'd at least be able to pin
the last unbroken kernel, whereas on 19.10 there aren't any working ones in the
repos at all (AFAIK) so I'm basically screwed until a fix makes its way through
the system or I brute-force an older one onto it. I'm still trying to decide if
I really want to go down that road or not.

I found https://people.canonical.com/~kernel/info/kernel-version-map.html , but
it's basically useless. All the 4.15 kernels from the working -32 through the 7
months of buggy ones and out the other side to -55 when it was fixed are all
just "4.15.18 mainline".
Maybe I'm missing something here, but without the tree that you guys are
*actually building from* I don't see how me bisecting mainline is going to
achieve anything. If that page is accurate it has nothing to do with mainline
at all and the bug only exists in the Ubuntu tree in the first place, neh?

2019-11-02 Thread Robert Matusewicz
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to look at all

upload the updated logs by running only once:
apport-collect 969648

and any other logs that are relevant for this particular issue.

- Backport a patch from 1.20.4

  Regression potential:
- None really, we've had this xserver version since 18.10 and in the HWE
backport, this patch backport is for 18.04 stock xserver but should work the
same. It just skips initializing glamor if the system is using software

[Bug 1851064] [NEW] [SRU] Update WALinuxAgent to 2.2.44

2019-11-02 Thread Akshay Joshi
Public bug reported:

SRU justification

Impact : Microsoft has released an update to the 2.2.44 for
WALinuxagent.

https://github.com/Azure/WALinuxAgent/releases/tag/v2.2.44

The latest version includes the following major fixes:

[#1642] Remove outdated extension ZIP packages
[#1623] Improved error handling when starting extensions using systemd
[#1619] Reduce provisioning time of some custom images
[#1617] Improve the handling of extension download errors
[#1634, #1640] New API for extension authors to handle errors during extension
update
[#1606] Fix handling of errors in calls to openssl
[#1599] Improve logic to determine current distro
[#1567, #1614] Reduce verbosity of several logging statements

Test Case :
 * First boot
   - build new images from -proposed
   - confirm that instance boots
   - run against extension
   - confirm that portal captures SSH host keys
 * Capture (VM Snapshot)
   - boot instance on Azure
   - upgrade from -proposed
   - shut instances down
   - capture instance
   - boot capture instance
   - confirm that portal capture SSH host keys
   - confirm instance has new identity
   - check /var/log/{cloud-init,waagent}.log for errors

Regression : regression potential is low, as these changes tighten up
the code and fix a broken feature.

The other Bug fixes include:

[#1506 #1563 #1568 #1570 #1572 #1573 #1576 #1580 #1583 #1595 #1600 #1606

[Bug 1848797] Re: After upgrading to 19.10, boot screen shows: "Error: symbol 'grub_file_filters' not found."

2019-11-02 Thread Augestflex
This has hit me too. Just now rebooting after upgrading from 19.04 to
19.10. I can't remember what version of Ubuntu I first started upgrading
to from this machine but looking at my old live discs it was either
Ubuntu 9.10 or 15.04.
