[Bug 1854404] [NEW] [MIR] libslirp (as it was part of QEMU)

2019-11-28 Thread Rafael David Tinoco
Public bug reported:

[Availability]

TODO: The package must already be in the Ubuntu universe, and must build
for the architectures it is designed to work on.

TODO: mention which binaries we actually want (if the package builds
more than one). Check the dependency-tree.txt file which binary we
actually need vs the debian/control file in the source

[Rationale]

TODO: check if this code (or older versions of it) was part of mailman2
already - if it was leave here: This code was formerly part of mailman2
which is in main, but was split into an extra package and evolved from
there on its own)

[Security]

TODO: check the security History of the package
- http://people.ubuntu.com/~ubuntu-security/cve/universe.html
- http://cve.mitre.org/cve/cve.html

[Quality assurance]

The mailman3 stacks as of now (Disco) installs fine and provides a base
config. But due to the nature of the package that needs further modification
to be of real use.

TODO: The package must not ask debconf questions higher than medium if
it is going to be installed by default. The debconf questions must have
reasonable defaults.

TODO: There are no long-term outstanding bugs which affect the usability
of the program to a major degree. To support a package, we must be
reasonably convinced that upstream supports and cares for the package.

TODO: The status of important bugs in Debian's, Ubuntu's, and upstream's
bug tracking systems must be evaluated. Important bugs must be pointed
out and discussed in the MIR report.

TODO: The package is maintained well in Debian/Ubuntu (check out the
Debian PTS)

TODO: The package should not deal with exotic hardware which we cannot
support.

TODO: If the package ships a test suite, and there is no obvious reason
why it cannot work during build (e. g. it needs root privileges or
network access), it should be run during package build, and a failing
test suite should fail the build.

TODO: The package uses a debian/watch file whenever possible. In cases
where this is not possible (e. g. native packages), the package should
either provide a debian/README.source file or a debian/watch file (with
comments only) providing clear instructions on how to generate the
source tar file.

TODO: It is often useful to run lintian --pedantic on the package to
spot the most common packaging issues in advance

TODO: The package should not rely on obsolete or about to be demoted
packages. That currently includes package dependencies on Python2
(without providing Python3 packages), and packages depending on GTK2.

[UI standards]

TODO: End-user applications must be internationalized (translatable),
using the standard intltool/gettext build and runtime system and produce
a proper PO template during build.

TODO: End-user applications must ship a standard conformant desktop
file.

[Dependencies]

Some dependencies are not in main, but we drive MIR for all related packages
that are not in main at the same time.

Please check the list of bugs from the main Mailman3 MIR to get an
overview.

[Standards compliance]

TODO: The package should meet the FHS and Debian Policy standards.

TODO: Major violations should be documented and justified.

TODO: Also, the source packaging should be reasonably easy to understand
and maintain.

[Maintenance]

The Server team will subscribe for the package for maintenance

[Background]

TODO: The package descriptions should explain the general purpose and
context of the package. Additional explanations/justifications should be
done in the MIR report.

Mike, thanks for the review. I fully agree about the DONTBUILD, although
I've see M-C developers push comment changes of a few lines causing an

Now that we fixed the typo, what can be said about the malfunction? What is
that LDAP stuff residing in M-C? Does that call into TB's LDAP handling? It
does, incredible:

Hmm.

1. The offending function, `processLDAPValues` doesn't appear to exist anywhere:
https://searchfox.org/comm-central/search?q=processLDAPValues&path=
Comment just above where it's called says "user supplied method".
I had to look it what the autoconfig module actually is - it's [MCD, Mission
Control Desktop, AKA
AutoConfig](https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Archive/Misc_top_level/MCD,_Mission_Control_Desktop_AKA_AutoConfig)).
The linked page has an example `processLDAPValues` function.

2. I really don't know what the status of the "autoconfig" module is.
Even supplying a `processLDAPValues` function, I suspect there might be
issues...

3. If it's supposed to work under both TB and Firefox, presumably its
LDAP support should be disabled under Firefox, given that the LDAP
support won't even be available? If it's TB-specific, then presumably
the whole module should be moved out into comm-central.

[Bug 1853142] Re: CVE-2019-18660: patches for Ubuntu

2019-11-28 Thread Daniel Axtens
The embargo has expired so I'm making this public now.

** Description changed:

  Hi,

Recently you would have been notified about CVE-2019-18660 via email to
the linux-distros private mailing list. In short, it is a bug in the
  Spectre v2 class affecting powerpc.

We have developed some backports for supported Ubuntu kernels, and
tested them in our lab. I will attach the patches shortly. Most of them
should end up being identical to the versions in linux-stable, but the
ones for Bionic are slightly different due to it using a 4.15 kernel.

Please get in touch with me or Michael Ellerman (powerpc maintainer) if
you have any questions or if we can be of any assistance.

- If I understand the SRU cycles correctly, we've missed the current one
- due for release on 2 December, so the earliest these patches could land
- in is the kernel nominally slated to be released ~23 December. Are you
- planning to still release a kernel then, or are your cycles going to
- change over the end of year period?
-
- (If it helps, we've got some automation set up so we're able to do the
- regression testing of -proposed kernels with these patches quickly.)

  Kind regards,
  Daniel

[Bug 1845466] Re: UEFI/Secureboot - "Failed to start MokManager" error when trying to install 3rd party drivers during install, leading to unbootable device

2019-11-28 Thread Pierre Equoy
Hi Luke,

First of all: don't worry, your device is not bricked. MOK (Machine-
Owner Keys) is a mechanism that allows the user of a system to add
his/her own secure keys in addition to the ones the machine already has.
It is used by Ubuntu because Ubuntu may include additional stuff (the
"3rd party drivers") that are not signed by the default security keys.
Therefore, it is required to add other security keys to be able to
install and enable these 3rd party drivers.

Did you try the latest version (Ubuntu 19.10)? Or only different 18.04
ISOs?

Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre provided a fix (see comment #4) for grub2
(included in 2.04-1ubuntu6). According to the packages list [1], the
version in 18.04 (bionic) is 2.02-2ubuntu8, so I don't think it includes
the fix.

[Bug 1854379] Re: Snap packages sources are not stated on listings

2019-11-28 Thread Robert Ancell
This source field is only shown if the same app (as determined by
AppStream ID) is available from multiple sources (e.g. a Snap and a
Flatpak). In the case of snaps it wasn't showing because we haven't set
the "origin_hostname" field. https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-
software/merge_requests/374 proposes falling back to the "origin" field
(set to "Snap Store" for snaps.

We may also want to set the origin_hostname for snaps (to
"snapcraft.io"?) but this seems less readable than Snap Store.

[Bug 1854392] Re: Bluetooth headphones won't use A2DP on reconnect

2019-11-28 Thread Alistair Cunningham
The only other Bluetooth headphones I've had access to recently were a
pair of Bose QC35 (1st generation). They showed up in the list of
visible BT devices, but my laptop couldn't connect to them at all,
despite numerous attempts. As a result, I bought the Sonys and got rid
of the Bose.

If you take a look at bug 1724919, you'll see that other people have the
same problem with other models of headphones.

Attached is a copy of /var/log/syslog since last boot, with minor
cleaning. Note that just after booting I wanted to use the headphones
for real, so I manually ran the attached 'headphones' script to
disconnect the headphones, reconnect them, and force A2DP mode. Then at
18:09:17, I deliberately recreated the bug by connecting the headphones,
and unsuccessfully trying to set A2DP in the sound settings.

[Bug 1854376] Re: Snap/Flathub Download Size is confusing

2019-11-28 Thread Yamin Bismilla
@Robert Ancell,

I was almost sure I had seen this impact Snap before. But I just
checkout quite a few Snap packages, and it only shows the Download Size
and they all seem reasonable.

Apologies, I must have remembered wrong. This doesn't impact Snaps it looks
like
(I will change the title/description if I can)

I guess the only thing that might impact Snap is if the DL size includes
the runtime, if that can be separated out as well, so people can gauge
how big the application is.

[Bug 1852183] Re: [X11] copy/paste (clipboard) is broken in Ubuntu 19.10

2019-11-28 Thread Jeppe Bundsgaard
I experience this problem in all kinds of editors (LibreOffice, RStudio,
Evolution, Kate), and also sometimes when creating screen dumps to the
clipboard (ctrl+shift+print screen). I also thought it was connected to
Clipboard Indicator, but it didn't help de-activating it.

But, hopefully good news ahead: The bug should be fixed in gtk3 3.24.13
and mutter 3.34.2 according
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/issues/878#note_642048.

So now we just have to wait for Ubuntu to get to these versions. Anyway
we could get this first in line of updates? - it is extremely annoying.

[Bug 1854392] Re: Bluetooth headphones won't use A2DP on reconnect

2019-11-28 Thread Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre
That's not /really/ helpful anyway. You'd have installed an extra
application, for a wholly unrelated issue, and still have to set the
profile to A2DP yourself.

Alistair, there are messages in your logs that seem to point to a firmware
issue:
Nov 26 16:56:25 albatross bluetoothd[1010]: Unable to get io data for Headset
Voice gateway: getpeername: Transport endpoint is not connected (107)

Furthermore, I see some slightly unusual messages that point to an issue with
the firmware (usually) as well:
Nov 26 14:45:14 albatross kernel: Bluetooth: hci0: SCO packet for unknown
connection handle 0
Nov 26 14:45:14 albatross kernel: Bluetooth: hci0: SCO packet for unknown
connection handle 0
Nov 26 14:45:14 albatross kernel: Bluetooth: hci0: SCO packet for unknown
connection handle 0
Nov 26 14:45:14 albatross kernel: Bluetooth: hci0: SCO packet for unknown
connection handle 0
Nov 26 14:45:14 albatross kernel: Bluetooth: hci0: SCO packet for unknown
connection handle 257
Nov 26 14:45:14 albatross kernel: Bluetooth: hci0: SCO packet for unknown
connection handle 257

It's possible the hardware gets confused by losing the connection that
was initially there.

I realize this might not be /so/ helpful, but have you also tried with
another model of bluetooth headphones, assuming you have something
available?

Please see if you can attach the full contents of /var/log/syslog after
reproducing the issue (with a different model or with the usual Sonys);
once you've made sure that it doesn't contain sensitive data. I'd need
to know when you started each attempt so we can see exactly how the
system reacts to it.

[Bug 1853879] Re: Dell E310dw: Default driver doesn't work, driverless fails on sides=two-sided-long-edge

2019-11-28 Thread Till Kamppeter
Could you please attach the PPD files of your printer, once of a Ubuntu
version in which the duplex works correctly (19.04 for example) and once
for a Ubuntu version where duplex printing does not work correctly
(19.10 for example). Could you also supply a CUPS error_log for one
working job (from 19.04 for example) and one non-working job (from 19.10
for example). Follow the instructions of the section "CUPS error_log" on
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingPrintingProblems.

Also run the command

driverless

to get your printer's IPP URI and then run

ipptool -tv get-printer-attributes-2.0.test > attrs.txt

If attrs.txt contains only a few lines or is empty, run

ipptool -tv get-printer-attributes.test > attrs.txt

This you only need to do on 19.10, not on both systems.

Please attach your PPDs, error_logs, and attrs.txt, one by one. Do not
compress them and do not package them together.

[Bug 1576060] Re: Gnome Schedule in Ubuntu 16.04?

2019-11-28 Thread MestreLion
For 18.04 I created a script to install dependencies and build from git.
Builds and install cleanly with no errors. It installs to current user
only, using $HOME/.local prefix, as I dislike installing
experimental/deprecated stuff to my system. I've added a few comments on
which build error each installed package fixes.

Hope this is useful!

Re: [Bug 1853743] Re: In Ubuntu 19.10, smbclient package doesn’t allow to print in a printer shared via samba from a Windows 10 server

 Hi!

I'm not sure ...

Now I think the problem can be a error in cups version.

I think cups produce a printers.conf file with any error. I think error is
in the line:

AuthInfoRequired username,password

This line must have this form if we want print works.

I hope you will find this information useful.

[Bug 1854393] Re: The clock on the lock screen sometimes looks broken after resuming from sleep.

2019-11-28 Thread Martin
I don't know how to reproduce the issue, other than it occasionally
happens when I open my laptop. I'm using Wayland for both GDM and the
GNOME session, on a laptop with Intel graphics (HD Graphics 5500 on an
Intel Core i5-5200U).

I will be running GDM and GNOME on X11 for a while from now to see if
the issue still occurs there.

[Bug 1854395] [NEW] apachectl configtest segmentation fault

2019-11-28 Thread Roberto Nunnari
Public bug reported:

https://errors.ubuntu.com/oops/cc6c7e3b-1217-11ea-a637-fa163ee63de6

Hello.

Yesterday I did apt upgrade and after that I noticed that ‘apachectl
configtest’ segfaults.

# apache2ctl configtest
Syntax OK
Segmentation fault (core dumped)
Action 'configtest' failed.
The Apache error log may have more information.

Don’t get nothing more in apache error logs, but in syslog (and also in
journalctl -xe) I have:

/var/log/syslog:
Nov 28 15:30:54 ariel kernel: [ 3060.544873] /usr/sbin/apach[7099]: segfault at

Yesterday upgrades:

2:3.28.4-0ubuntu0.16.04.8

2:3.28.4-0ubuntu0.16.04.8

My env:
# cat /etc/issue
Ubuntu 16.04.6 LTS \n \l

The good part is that I can still use apache with 'apachectl start'
Any hints?

Thank you and best regards.

[Bug 1854001] Re: pmtu net kernel selftests are skipped on bionic linux-hwe-edge 5.3

2019-11-28 Thread Thadeu Lima de Souza Cascardo
The log only shows the SKIPs. I managed to reproduce one FAIL that I
have seen as well:

TEST: ipv6: list and flush cached exceptions[FAIL]
  can't list cached exceptions

This one ended up being caused by the script itself and a difference in
behavior between different versions of iproute2.

Recent iproute2, when introducing json output support for ip route,
ended up removing the newline for IPv6, while keeping it for IPv4. The
script author assumed the newest behavior, but also accounted for the
two lines per entry for IPv4.

iproute2, however, has a -oneline option that could just have been used
in this case and that would fix the whole problem. Using it fix the
FAIL, while we still have the SKIPs, which would require a new version
of iproute2, at least on -backports.

[Bug 1854393] [NEW] The clock on the lock screen sometimes looks broken after resuming from sleep.

Public bug reported:

When resuming from sleep after locking my screen, GDM (or at least I'm

2019-11-28 Thread Andreas Hasenack
I looked at the existing bug reports, but I don't think any of the
patches fix the problem. Furthermore, I tried debian's 4.11.1 samba
package, and got the same error.

I now emailed samba-technical@ with a question:

[Bug 1854392] [NEW] Bluetooth headphones won't use A2DP on reconnect

2019-11-28 Thread Alistair Cunningham
Public bug reported:

*** This bug is the same as bug 1724919, but is NOT A DUPLICATE because
that bug was closed because it was reported for Ubuntu 17.10, which is
out of support. This bug is for newer versions, such as 19.10. PLEASE DO
NOT MARK THIS BUG AS A DUPLICATE. ***

On Ubuntu 19.10 on my Thinkpad T470s, my Sony WH-1000XM3 headphones pair
using Bluetooth with no problems, and use A2DP by default. If I then
power off the headphones and power them back on, they reconnect but use
HSP/HFP and sound terrible. If I manually go into the sound settings,
A2DP is offered as an option, but selecting it doesn't take effect. The
headphones remain stuck in HSP/HFP mode.

Unpairing the headphones and re-pairing them again selects A2DP by
default, until the next time I switch the headphones off. Then they're
back to stuck in HSP/HFP until I unpair them once again. I therefore
need to unpair and re-pair them every time I want to use them, which is
a nuisance.

Within the last 30 minutes the problem seems to have resolved itself for
me when using both Chrome and Firefox.

https://askubuntu.com/questions/1192063/installed-gnome-extensions-page-

the problem.

@Rajkumar, do you now see a list of installed extensions when going to
https://extensions.gnome.org/local/ ?

[Bug 1848144] Re: Screen reader isn't enabled on login screen or user session after installation

2019-11-28 Thread Łukasz Zemczak
Prepared a fix for this. Apparently this got broken with our switch to
gnome-shell, so it's been busted since quite a while. The fix is very
simple though. Previously I was wondering why the strange
UBIQUITY_A11Y_PROFILE variable handling logic was there in the casper
hook - but it seems *this* was the reason!

[Bug 1854373] Re: CVE affecting phpMyAdmin 4.x

2019-11-28 Thread William Desportes via ubuntu-bugs
I think there is no fix to do since
https://www.phpmyadmin.net/security/PMASA-2019-5/ clearly shows that
before 4.7.7 there is no affected version

I can see here that no distribution has 4.7.x
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/phpmyadmin

Do you agree ?

[Bug 1854373] Re: CVE affecting phpMyAdmin 4.x

2019-11-28 Thread Eduardo dos Santos Barretto
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Since the package referred to in this bug is in universe or
multiverse, it is community maintained. If you are able, I suggest
coordinating with upstream and posting a debdiff for this issue. When a
debdiff is available, members of the security team will review it and
publish the package. See the following link for more information:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SecurityTeam/UpdateProcedures

** No longer affects: tcpdump (Ubuntu)
