like the issue is not reproducible any longer. Am I missing something?

[Bug 1855568] [NEW] pcs depends on python3-tornado (>= 6) but it won't be installed

2019-12-07 Thread Rafael David Tinoco
Public bug reported:

PCS currently depends on python3-tornado >= 6 but that package does not
exist.

(c)rafaeldtinoco@pcsdevel:~$ apt-get install pcs
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
pcs : Depends: python3-tornado (>= 6) but it is not going to be installed
Recommends: pacemaker (>= 2.0) but it is not going to be installed
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.

In Debian:

python3-tornado | 6.0.3+really5.1.1-2 | testing | amd64, arm64, armel,
armhf, i386, mips64el, mipsel, ppc64el, s390x
python3-tornado | 6.0.3+really5.1.1-2 | unstable | amd64, arm64, armel,
armhf, i386, mips64el, mipsel, ppc64el, s390x

Currently PCS needs python3-tornado to be upgraded to 6 OR to have the
fixes for 5.1.1 to be re-added.

[Bug 1855567] [NEW] msmtp extremely out of date - no longer works with various SSL/TLS services

2019-12-07 Thread ylluminate
Public bug reported:

The current version of msmtp in the 18.04 repo is at 1.6.6 which is from
2016. It is broken in various regards and 1.86 from just a couple
months ago is out and not only fixes a number of issues, but now also
comes with a service daemon that's very useful to run in the background.

I was able to install the updated version into /usr/local fairly simply
by:

# Enable src entries:
sudo nano /etc/apt/sources.list
sudo apt build-dep msmtp # make sure dependencies are in place
mkdir ~/src; cd ~/src
wget https://marlam.de/msmtp/releases/msmtp-1.8.6.tar.xz
tar xJf msmtp-1.8.6.tar.xz
cd msmtp-1.8.6/
./configure
make
sudo make install

The only other thing that would be really nice to add since this has
been added now is an init.d script for msmtpd with port customization in
the init script.

[Bug 1855177] Re: QEMU emulated nvdimm regions alignment need (128MB) or ndctl create-namespace namespace1.0 might fail

2019-12-07 Thread Rafael David Tinoco
You have to make sure to set the label size as the same size as the
minimum alignment required. For QEMU emulation I found it to be 2M, and,
in this case, you can correctly work with 2 or more nvdimms. With proper
alignment, you can also re-create namespaces - of other mode like devdax
or fsdax - if you already have a namespace working.

Example:

$_nvpath1

1048576
0

  2048

$_nvpath2

1048576
1

  2048

So I'm closing this as NOT A BUG as the alignment can be configured
accordingly.

For other examples you can check autopkgtests being proposed as a merge
request at:

[Bug 1739468] Re: Repeated [AppIndicatorSupport-WARN] Item :1.51/org/ayatana/NotificationItem/multiload is already registered

2019-12-07 Thread Jamie Browning
Why is this low importance when anyone who has this issue should be
quiting the application rendering it useless, seems pretty high to me.
What else could possibly trump this?

[Bug 1855566] Re: the ubuntu 18.04 install crashed

2019-12-07 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

This package failure looks like it was caused by bad ISO download,
corrupted install media, or device failure. eg. look in the logs and
you'll see messages like these :-

Dec 8 02:07:46 ubuntu kernel: [ 661.522639] SQUASHFS error: zlib
decompression failed, data probably corrupt
Dec 8 02:07:46 ubuntu kernel: [ 661.522641] SQUASHFS error:
squashfs_read_data failed to read block 0x55faf3ab

Examining the information you have given us, this does not appear to be
a useful bug report so I am closing it, as it appears to be a bad ISO or
faulty device (inc. bad write-to-device). If you believe I'm in error,
please leave a comment explaining why and change the status back to
'New'. I suggest you verify your ISO download, and use the 'check disc
for defects' option to validate your media before install to ensure a
good download & write.

upstream, we will integrate the fix in the ubuntu kernel.

[Bug 1834771] Re: No HDMI-audio after kernel 4.15.-0.50

2019-12-07 Thread Richard Muller
I've also installed the testing kernels but without success. No audio at all :(
@hui.wang: I saw some dmesg outputs being uploaded. Do you need more samples to
fix this bug?

Can you please give us a status update on this? I'm dealing with this
situation for months now and half of the PCs in our office are affected.
Using such an old unpatched kernel for work is not an option. So me and
my colleagues have to use headphones or external speakers along our
speaker equipped monitors.

If quick help is not in sight, I vote for simply undoing the patch that
triggered this terrible bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1827967

Please make our audio work again, @hui.wang!

[Bug 1741931] Re: Cannot enable Jean-Yves Lefort's Mail Notification plugin in Evolution

2019-12-07 Thread Brian
@evanblack- I had stopped using Thunderbird a while back and went to
online mail suites. I have recently started to try Evolution because of
the integrations it offers with low overhead. It is unfortunate that
such a basic feature is not functioning for so long. Ubuntu replaced TB
now with Evolution, so hopefully we will see some of these core
functions returned.

[Bug 1775890] Re: Missing Packages

2019-12-07 Thread Josha Foust
It looks like yubikey-luks-open is included, it is just in /usr/lib
instead of /usr/bin. Which is confusing because I downloaded the
package source and the debian/rules files indicates it should be putting
it in /usr/bin. Maybe because it isn't executable in the source? Also
the debian/control file indicates a dependency on expect, which is
needed, but that does not show up in the package.

Reading your report it appears you are mostly after support.

This bug report can be converted to a question (aimed at support, bug
reports are aimed and finding problems and fixing so subsequent users
won't stumble with the same issue).

You can also find help with your problem in the support forum of your
local Ubuntu community http://loco.ubuntu.com/ or asking at

[Bug 1855550] Re: Trying to do-release-upgrade from 14.04 LTS

2019-12-07 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for reporting this bug to Ubuntu.

Ubuntu 14.04 (trusty) reached end-of-life on April 25, 2019.

See this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

Your issue is also outlined in the message correctly, ie. you have
"Unofficial software packages not provided by Ubuntu", thus it's a
support issue and not bug.

Ubuntu 14.04 LTS however is EOL & thus I'm closing this because of that.
If you believe I'm in error, please leave a comment stating why and you
can change status back to "New".

[Bug 869017] Re: Ubuntu server enables screenblanking, concealing crashdumps (DPMS is not used)

2019-12-07 Thread Charles Wilkins via ubuntu-bugs
Some additional information and observations.

What I am currently seeing with this issue on 3 systems running Ubuntu
18.04 that did not occur on the same systems that previously ran 16.04
is that the actual screen blanking in 18.04, aside from default settings
or overrides, fails to turn off the monitor using DPMS as it did in
16.04, but only with nvidia binary drivers installed and only in 18.04,
and only with the console blanking code in its current state.

In 18.04 without the nvidia binary driver, console blanking seems to
work, as expected, with the consoleblank=n. This includes a correct
power down.

In 18.04 with the nvidia binary driver 340.107, console blanking only
blanks the screen, but fails to power down the monitor- yet a call to
vbetool dpms off does work, as do any similar calls in X for those
systems that have X installed. So if vbetool dpms works with the nvidia
binary driver and the console blanking code no longer does, I am half
way to an assumption that the dpms code in the console blanking has
changed, with some reservation that possibly the latest nvidia binary
driver doesn't like the way the call is coming from the newly changed
console blanking code.

This problem did not exist in 16.04, on any of our systems to my
knowledge, with or without a graphical desktop installed and with or
without a binary driver installed.

>From my perspective, this isn't an issue of default blanking behaviour,
but rather an issue with a broken dpms call in 18.04 to a system with
the nvidia binary driver. Other calls, such as vbetool dpms off work as
do those within graphical desktop systems such as those like the one
that xscreensaver uses.

When closing either Footprint Editor or pcbnew, fp-info-cache temp file
is written from scratch line-by-line into the project's directory. This is fine
when the project directory is on a local filesystem. However, if the project
directory is on a samba share, writing the whole file can take literally a
minute. This means that the application window is not refreshing and it seems
like it hung. This is annoying when you are editing a footprint and forget
about this behaviour and 'accidentally' close the footprint editor. You have to
wait a minute for the fp-info-cache file to get completely written
before you can continue working with kicad.

Looking at the samba server logs, the fp-info-cache is written
line by line and each write is sent as a separate request:

[2019/12/07 23:18:11.740618, 3]

In general, writing one fp-info-cache file, with the default set
of footprint libraries, can produce ~75k individual writes over the
network, in this case:

[ /var/log/samba ]# cat log. | grep fp-info-cache0bIzQY | grep wrote | wc -l
75048
[ /var/log/samba ]# wc -l
/mnt/data/ostatne/plosaky/polizei_rx/polizei_rx/fp-info-cache
75048 /mnt/data/ostatne/plosaky/polizei_rx/polizei_rx/fp-info-cache

..and take more than a minute:

[/var/log/samba ]# cat log. | grep fp-info-cache0bIzQY -B1 | head -2
[2019/12/07 23:16:56.293527, 2] ../source3/smbd/open.c:1006(open_file)
  peter opened file plosaky/polizei_rx/polizei_rx/fp-info-cache0bIzQY read=Yes
write=Yes (numopen=1)
[ /var/log/samba ]# cat log. | grep fp-info-cache0bIzQY -B1 | tail -2
[2019/12/07 23:18:12.022399, 3]
../source3/smbd/reply.c:6777(rename_internals_fsp)
  rename_internals_fsp: succeeded doing rename on
plosaky/polizei_rx/polizei_rx/fp-info-cache0bIzQY ->
plosaky/polizei_rx/polizei_rx/fp-info-cache

I have not find a way to fine tune the samba server/client to improve
the write times. I believe there is not a way to do it, since the file
is written line-by-line as separate write requests.

Is there a better way for kicad to write the fp-info-cache file?

Perhaps writing the fp-info-cache file first into an OS temp
directory (assuming the OS temp dir is almost always on a local drive,
thus very fast) and then, once the fp-info-cache file is
completely written in the temp directory, copy the file from the temp
dir ectory to the project's directory? The copy operation would be done
in a few (one?) network file system write command(s).

Thanks,
Peter

[Bug 1855555] [NEW] CA0132: Only stereo with Creative Soundblaster ZxR

2019-12-07 Thread Erik Steiner
Public bug reported:

I have a 5.1 sound system that is connected via three 3.5 mm audio
cables with my Sound Blaster ZxR: Front Left, Center, Front Right, Rear
Left, Rear Right, LFE

I only get sound from "Front Left"/"Front Right". All other speakers
don't make a sound. I tested Ubuntu 19.04, Ubuntu 19.10, Manjaro 18.10,
different Kernels and the Sound Blaster Patch from reddit, nothing
helped. After all these tests, I started again with a fresh Ubuntu 19.10
installation with this output from "alsa information script": http
://alsa-project.org/db/?f=c9d4adfbc5441c4975b6e6c7a6fb3cbfc201158a

Only thing that I did was changing the default audio device to my ZxR.
Otherwise my NVIDIA graphics card is selected. I did that with ~/.asoundrc:
defaults.ctl.!card "Creative"
defaults.pcm.!card "Creative"
defaults.timer.!card "Creative"

Interestingly I decided to install Windows 10 on my second drive in dual boot
mode.
I noticed that when I start Windows all speakers are working. Then I reboot to
Ubuntu and all speakers are working, too. This effect will vanish if I shut
down my PC and start directly to Ubuntu.
So something happens on Windows that is kept while rebooting to Ubuntu..

I already reported this issue at bugzilla.kernel.org:

So I grabber unity-settings-daemon & libunity-settings-daemon from comment #33

dependensies).
The keys are working now. 10q, Khurshid!

[Bug 1855080] Re: Credentials API allows listing and retrieving of all users credentials

commit 17947516b0095c51da5cff94771247f2e7c44ee6
Author: Colleen Murphy
Date: Wed Dec 4 10:51:05 2019 -0800

Fix credential list for project members

Without this patch, project members and readers can list any credentials
with the /v3/credentials API when enforce_scope is false. enforce_scope
is only applicable to project admins due to the admin-ness problem[1],
and this policy is not meant to allow project admins any access to users'
credentials (only system admins should be able to access them). However,
when enforce_scope is false, we need to preserve the old behavior of
project admins being able to list all credentials. This change mitigates
the problem by running the identity:get_credential policy check to
filter out credentials the user does not have access to. This will
impact performance.

[Bug 1712508] Re: Disappearing screen and flickering after upgrade to 16.04

2019-12-07 Thread gdm85
I confirm this bug is present on Ubuntu 18.04, my hardware is an Intel
HD Graphics 5500.

It was working fine on the previous LTS, 16.04; if I use kernel
4.4.0-161-generic from Ubuntu 16 Xenial I can boot Ubuntu 18 Bionic
fine, thus I conclude it's something in the kernel.

I have tried these options (individually) without any effect:
i915.enable_ips=0 swiotlb=force i915.enable_ips=0
intel_idle.max_cstate=1 i915.enable_rc6=0 i915.enable_psr=0

On the good kernel I see this error in dmesg:
[drm:intel_dp_link_training_channel_equalization [i915]] *ERROR* failed to
train DP, aborting

While on the bad one there are no such failures as it detects everything:
[ 10.429894] input: HDA Intel HDMI HDMI/DP,pcm=3 as
/devices/pci:00/:00:03.0/sound/card0/input22
[ 10.429989] input: HDA Intel HDMI HDMI/DP,pcm=7 as
/devices/pci:00/:00:03.0/sound/card0/input23
[ 10.430070] input: HDA Intel HDMI HDMI/DP,pcm=8 as
/devices/pci:00/:00:03.0/sound/card0/input24
[ 10.430166] input: HDA Intel HDMI HDMI/DP,pcm=9 as
/devices/pci:00/:00:03.0/sound/card0/input25
[ 10.430250] input: HDA Intel HDMI HDMI/DP,pcm=10 as
/devices/pci:00/:00:03.0/sound/card0/input26

The most interesting clue to find a solution is however to be found in
gparted-live-1.0.0-5-amd64.iso: when booting this live distro via USB I
get exactly the same flickering (it uses kernel 5.2.0) but when starting
Xorg the problem disappears. Switching back to any VT shows the
flickering problem.

I was wondering if it could be possible to dissect the GParted live ISO
to find out what makes it work when starting Xorg.

Also ubuntu-kernel-bot must post these message when the kernel is copied

[Bug 1855549] [NEW] ubuntu-wsl: Please recommend show-motd

2019-12-07 Thread Balint Reczey
Public bug reported:

[ Impact ]

  * Desktop users of WSL are 'dropped into' the Ubuntu shell instead of logging
in to the WSL container, thus they don't see MOTD. Then don't get information
about the system's state via desktop notifications either, because the default
Ubuntu WSL system does not start the Ubuntu desktop.
  * To show important system information to users being dropped to a shell
directly the show-motd package was created to show MOTD using a /etc/profile.d
script.
  * To have this script in place ubuntu-wsl needs to recommend show-motd.

[ Test Case ]

 * Use 'apt-cache show ubuntu-wsl' to check if ubuntu-wsl recommends
update-motd.

[ Regression Potential ]

 * Pulling in a /etc/profile.d script that exits can make the started
shell exit immediately. For this reason the shell does not exit in any
case. The script can also throw confusing errors. To avoid such errors
the script is tested in an autopkgtest and many related packages were
fixed where errors were observed. The update-motd package adds Breaks:
against related package versions which are known to show errors in MOTD
when being run as a regular user. See LP: #1855271 for more details.

I don't see evidence that the peripherals are to cause here. Plugging
them in/not does not appear to have a change in results.
