[Bug 1855177] Re: QEMU emulated nvdimm regions alignment need (128MB) or ndctl create-namespace namespace1.0 might fail
You have to make sure to set the label size as the same size as the minimum alignment required. For QEMU emulation I found it to be 2M, and, in this case, you can correctly work with 2 or more nvdimms. With proper alignment, you can also re-create namespaces - of other mode like devdax or fsdax - if you already have a namespace working. Example: $_nvpath1 1048576 0 2048 $_nvpath2 1048576 1 2048 So I'm closing this as NOT A BUG as the alignment can be configured accordingly. Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make Ubuntu better. This package failure looks like it was caused by bad ISO download, corrupted install media, or device failure. eg. look in the logs and you'll see messages like these :- Dec 8 02:07:46 ubuntu kernel: [ 661.522639] SQUASHFS error: zlib decompression failed, data probably corrupt Dec 8 02:07:46 ubuntu kernel: [ 661.522641] SQUASHFS error: squashfs_read_data failed to read block 0x55faf3ab Examining the information you have given us, this does not appear to be a useful bug report so I am closing it, as it appears to be a bad ISO or faulty device (inc. bad write-to-device). If you believe I'm in error, please leave a comment explaining why and change the status back to 'New'. It looks like yubikey-luks-open is included, it is just in /usr/lib instead of /usr/bin. [Bug 1855550] Re: Trying to do-release-upgrade from 14.04 LTS
Thank you for reporting this bug to Ubuntu. Ubuntu 14.04 (trusty) reached end-of-life on April 25, 2019. [Bug 869017] Re: Ubuntu server enables screenblanking, concealing crashdumps (DPMS is not used)
Some additional information and observations. What I am currently seeing with this issue on 3 systems running Ubuntu 18.04 that did not occur on the same systems that previously ran 16.04 is that the actual screen blanking in 18.04, aside from default settings or overrides, fails to turn off the monitor using DPMS as it did in 16.04, but only with nvidia binary drivers installed and only in 18.04, and only with the console blanking code in its current state. In 18.04 without the nvidia binary driver, console blanking seems to work, as expected, with the consoleblank=n. This includes a correct power down. In 18.04 with the nvidia binary driver 340.107, console blanking only blanks the screen, but fails to power down the monitor- yet a call to vbetool dpms off does work, as do any similar calls in X for those systems that have X installed. So if vbetool dpms works with the nvidia binary driver and the console blanking code no longer does, I am half way to an assumption that the dpms code in the console blanking has changed, with some reservation that possibly the latest nvidia binary driver doesn't like the way the call is coming from the newly changed console blanking code. This problem did not exist in 16.04, on any of our systems to my knowledge, with or without a graphical desktop installed and with or without a binary driver installed. >From my perspective, this isn't an issue of default blanking behaviour, but rather an issue with a broken dpms call in 18.04 to a system with the nvidia binary driver. Other calls, such as vbetool dpms off work as do those within graphical desktop systems such as those like the one that xscreensaver uses. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/869017 Title: Ubuntu server enables screenblanking, concealing crashdumps (DPMS is not used) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kbd/+bug/869017/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1855562] [NEW] Writing fp-info-cache temp file take too long over networked FS (e.g. samba)
Public bug reported: Hi, Application: Pcbnew Version: 5.1.5-52549c5~84~ubuntu18.04.1, release build Libraries: wxWidgets 3.0.4 libcurl/7.58.0 OpenSSL/1.1.1 zlib/1.2.11 libidn2/2.0.4 libpsl/0.19.1 (+libidn2/2.0.4) nghttp2/1.30.0 librtmp/2.3 Platform: Linux 4.15.0-20-generic x86_64, 64 bit, Little endian, wxGTK Build Info: wxWidgets: 3.0.4 (wchar_t,wx containers, compatible with 2.8) GTK+ 3.22 Boost: 1.65.1 OpenCASCADE Community Edition: 6.9.1 Curl: 7.58.0 Compiler: GCC 7.4.0 with C++ ABI 1011 Build settings: USE_WX_GRAPHICS_CONTEXT=OFF USE_WX_OVERLAY=ON KICAD_SCRIPTING=ON KICAD_SCRIPTING_MODULES=ON KICAD_SCRIPTING_PYTHON3=ON KICAD_SCRIPTING_WXPYTHON=ON KICAD_SCRIPTING_WXPYTHON_PHOENIX=ON KICAD_SCRIPTING_ACTION_MENU=ON BUILD_GITHUB_PLUGIN=ON KICAD_USE_OCE=ON KICAD_USE_OCC=OFF KICAD_SPICE=ON When closing either Footprint Editor or pcbnew, fp-info-cache temp file is written from scratch line-by-line into the project's directory. This is fine when the project directory is on a local filesystem. However, if the project directory is on a samba share, writing the whole file can take literally a minute. This means that the application window is not refreshing and it seems like it hung. This is annoying when you are editing a footprint and forget about this behaviour and 'accidentally' close the footprint editor. You have to wait a minute for the fp-info-cache file to get completely written before you can continue working with kicad. Looking at the samba server logs, the fp-info-cache is written line by line and each write is sent as a separate request: [2019/12/07 23:18:11.740618, 3] ../source3/smbd/smb2_write.c:212(smb2_write_complete_internal) smb2: fnum 2023785553, file plosaky/polizei_rx/polizei_rx/fp-info-cache0bIzQY, length=2 offset=0 wrote=2 [2019/12/07 23:18:11.741681, 3] ../source3/smbd/smb2_write.c:212(smb2_write_complete_internal) smb2: fnum 2023785553, file plosaky/polizei_rx/polizei_rx/fp-info-cache0bIzQY, length=2 offset=0 wrote=2 [2019/12/07 23:18:11.742641, 3] ../source3/smbd/smb2_write.c:212(smb2_write_complete_internal) smb2: fnum 2023785553, file plosaky/polizei_rx/polizei_rx/fp-info-cache0bIzQY, length=9 offset=0 wrote=9 [2019/12/07 23:18:11.744346, 3] ../source3/smbd/smb2_write.c:212(smb2_write_complete_internal) smb2: fnum 2023785553, file plosaky/polizei_rx/polizei_rx/fp-info-cache0bIzQY, length=30 offset=0 wrote=30 [2019/12/07 23:18:11.745263, 3] ../source3/smbd/smb2_write.c:212(smb2_write_complete_internal) smb2: fnum 2023785553, file plosaky/polizei_rx/polizei_rx/fp-info-cache0bIzQY, length=52 offset=0 wrote=52 [2019/12/07 23:18:11.746235, 3] ../source3/smbd/smb2_write.c:212(smb2_write_complete_internal) smb2: fnum 2023785553, file plosaky/polizei_rx/polizei_rx/fp-info-cache0bIzQY, length=14 offset=0 wrote=14 [2019/12/07 23:18:11.747096, 3] ../source3/smbd/smb2_write.c:212(smb2_write_complete_internal) smb2: fnum 2023785553, file plosaky/polizei_rx/polizei_rx/fp-info-cache0bIzQY, length=2 offset=0 wrote=2 In general, writing one fp-info-cache file, with the default set of footprint libraries, can produce ~75k individual writes over the network, in this case: [ /var/log/samba ]# cat log. | grep fp-info-cache0bIzQY | grep wrote | wc -l 75048 [ /var/log/samba ]# wc -l /mnt/data/ostatne/plosaky/polizei_rx/polizei_rx/fp-info-cache 75048 /mnt/data/ostatne/plosaky/polizei_rx/polizei_rx/fp-info-cache ..and take more than a minute: [/var/log/samba ]# cat log. | grep fp-info-cache0bIzQY -B1 | head -2 [2019/12/07 23:16:56.293527, 2] ../source3/smbd/open.c:1006(open_file) peter opened file plosaky/polizei_rx/polizei_rx/fp-info-cache0bIzQY read=Yes write=Yes (numopen=1) [ /var/log/samba ]# cat log. | grep fp-info-cache0bIzQY -B1 | tail -2 [2019/12/07 23:18:12.022399, 3] ../source3/smbd/reply.c:6777(rename_internals_fsp) rename_internals_fsp: succeeded doing rename on plosaky/polizei_rx/polizei_rx/fp-info-cache0bIzQY -> plosaky/polizei_rx/polizei_rx/fp-info-cache I have not find a way to fine tune the samba server/client to improve the write times. Perhaps writing the fp-info-cache file first into an OS temp directory (assuming the OS temp dir is almost always on a local drive, thus very fast) and then, once the fp-info-cache file is completely written in the temp directory, copy the file from the temp dir ectory to the project's directory? The copy operation would be done in a few (one?) network file system write command(s). However, when enforce_scope is false, we need to preserve the old behavior of project admins being able to list all credentials. This change mitigates the problem by running the identity:get_credential policy check to filter out credentials the user does not have access to. This will impact performance. [Bug 1712508] Re: Disappearing screen and flickering after upgrade to 16.04
I confirm this bug is present on Ubuntu 18.04, my hardware is an Intel HD Graphics 5500. [Bug 1855549] [NEW] ubuntu-wsl: Please recommend show-motd
Public bug reported: [ Impact ] * Desktop users of WSL are 'dropped into' the Ubuntu shell instead of logging in to the WSL container, thus they don't see MOTD. Then don't get information about the system's state via desktop notifications either, because the default Ubuntu WSL system does not start the Ubuntu desktop. * To show important system information to users being dropped to a shell directly the show-motd package was created to show MOTD using a /etc/profile.d script. * To have this script in place ubuntu-wsl needs to recommend show-motd. [ Test Case ] * Use 'apt-cache show ubuntu-wsl' to check if ubuntu-wsl recommends update-motd. [ Regression Potential ] * Pulling in a /etc/profile.d script that exits can make the started shell exit immediately. For this reason the shell does not exit in any case. The script can also throw confusing errors. To avoid such errors the script is tested in an autopkgtest and many related packages were fixed where errors were observed. The update-motd package adds Breaks: against related package versions which are known to show errors in MOTD when being run as a regular user.
