[Bug 1855793] [NEW] Wi-Fi becomes unusally slow all of a sudden and forces me to turn off Wi-Fi and then turn it back on
Public bug reported: Oftentimes, when I am using my PC, the Wi-Fi will drop all of a sudden and I will then be forced to turn the Wi-Fi off and then back on again, which is annoying. And even then, the Wi-Fi becomes unusually slow afterwards. [Bug 1855792] [NEW] change screen alignment & wallpaper is covering only half screen
Public bug reported: Lubuntu 20.04 daily. (on hp 8200 elite sff (i5-2400, 8gb, nvidia quadro 600)) Exploring another issue, I booted daily and opened Monitor.Settings to adjust the displays to match my setup. I then opened Qterminal (I'll need that too). Then I adjusted the Monitor.Settings configuration to my setup (one screen above the other), missing slightly what I wanted so I adjusted again (I got my desired result from Monitor.Settings, but wallpaper is wrong). Expect result. The wallpaper should be visible 'stretched' across both displays Result I got Instead my lower display has the top of the wallpaper, my top display has no wallpaper (terminal is visible in the black) and bottom of wallpaper cannot be seen. This issue is minor, I've noted it before (in bug reports that with other issues that may be related on vertical alignment displays). This issue is not new, just reporting it alone is. It's not a bug, but I understand from your perspective that it appears to be one. We introduced ds-identify to prevent cloud-images from attempting to connect out to URLs when none are available. Cloud-init was slower since it needed to attempt to see if any network-based datasources were present and this also prevents cloud-init from responding to network sources when it should not. Cloud-init would also run even if no datasources or user-config were provided at all which meant running a cloud-image outside of a cloud would hang for a very long time waiting for cloud-init to timeout. > > Also, if I modify the official cloud image and disable any datasource > *except* Ec2 (i.e., write `datasource_list: [ Ec2 ]` into > `/etc/cloud/cloud.cfg.d/90_dpkg.cfg`), then everything works fine. > > So the issue is really `ds-identify` being too picky about when the > `Ec2` datasource is valid; from a cursory look, I can see that it just > checks if `/sys/hypervisor` contains some well-known AWS tag -- but > there are many cloud services which provide EC2-compatible metadata > (OpenNebula being another example), which would be skipped by this > logic! The ds-identify checks use local information on the instance to check if it is running on a cloud platform. [Bug 138094] Re: [Gutsy] desktop and keyboard freezes while mouse is moveable
I am seeing this and I am on Ubuntu 19.10. I have an Nvidia 1660Ti with the driver 435.21. When I use Nvidia drivers, I do not see this issue. If I select the new "on-demand" option under Prime-Select or even the Intel(Power-saving) option, randomly but quite consistently I see that the display freezes. Mouse works, ssh works, nothing in the logs points to a cause though. The laptop is Legion-Y545 with Intel 9750h processor. Works fine on Windows where nvidia graphics card is used on demand and Intel discrete chip is used most of the time. Major concern is the battery, while on intel chipset, I get really good battery but when I switch to Nvidia, it uses a lot of battery, I would want to be able to enable "on-demand" feature to save battery when needed. I suggest looking at the aforementioned link (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1854798), and trying what has been suggested there (eg. comment 13 OR 15). If you try it, and it works PLEASE report back here or on other 1854798 bug report. [Bug 1855787] [NEW] Bionic update: upstream stable patchset 2019-12-09
Public bug reported: SRU Justification Impact: The upstream process for stable tree updates is quite similar in scope to the Ubuntu SRU process, e.g., each patch has to demonstrably fix a bug, and each patch is vetted by upstream by originating either directly from a mainline/stable Linux tree or a minimally backported form of that patch. I found the following page online https://bluesabre.org/2019/10/20/install-xubuntu-19-10-on-a-raspberry-pi-4/ the claim is that this bug is in the greeter and it has been fixed upstream. i followed the directions to install a different greeter and the xubuntu now works. i had updated to the latest kernel (1014) before trying this fix but it did not help. [Bug 1855415] Re: cannot enable esm-infra for ubuntu 14, amd 64
You have one of the largest apt lists I have ever seen! You will notice that your attempt to update fails. There are a number of repos that return a 403 (forbidden) or 404 (missing). When ubuntu-advantage-tools activates ESM, it attempts to do an apt update. If that fails, as it does in your case, the enable is reverted. Therefore, if you clean up your various repos, and get apt update to exit cleanly, enabling ubuntu-advantage-tools should work. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1855415 Title: cannot enable esm-infra for ubuntu 14, amd 64 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-advantage-tools/+bug/1855415/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1855768] Re: Ubuntu-security CVE-2019-18224 web page shows incorrect info about libidn2-0 status
Hey Eduardo, This is the Trivy tool: https://github.com/aquasecurity/trivy. It's used to scan containers for CVEs and to reproduce you can install trivy and just run "trivy -quiet ubuntu:18.04" to see the CVE flagged. I think what is happening is that trivy scans installed packages on the system (returns libidn2-0) and then compares it to the CVE page which in this case shows as "DNE" and thus is flagged as a valid vulnerability. Do you think this sounds correct? If so, I will file the bug in relevant upstream projects. [Bug 1855415] Re: cannot enable esm-infra for ubuntu 14, amd 64
Hi Samrat, Thanks for the data! The last stage in `ua enable esm-infra` is to do an `apt-get update` so that the new repository is ready for use. As you can see in your manual run, that fails on your system for reasons unrelated to ESM. (I've filed https://github.com/CanonicalLtd/ubuntu- advantage-client/issues/954 in our upstream bug tracker to cover this.) Can you enable ESM Infra and then check if an `apt-get upgrade` pulls in packages from the ESM repositories? Once you've done that, please report back and move this bug report back to New. Thanks! [Bug 1855637] Re: Intel AC 9260 (iwlwifi) completely unstable and halts cores in 19.10
Please note that I went ahead and reinstalled on another drive and completely updated, so there is a system ready to go with this issue--I just have to boot into it. It's a slow USB external drive, so, gross, but it works. Also, I'm a former c developer with some kernel dev experience in the past. [Bug 1855768] Re: Ubuntu-security CVE-2019-18224 web page shows incorrect info about libidn2-0 status
Hi Srdjan, Thanks for taking the time to report this issue and help making Ubuntu better. The USN you mentioned, applied the fix to the source package libidn2 (https://packages.ubuntu.com/source/bionic/libidn2) You can see on the mentioned page that this source package generates multiple binary packages, including: idn2 and libidn2-0. So, on the USN page that you mentioned we are referring to those binary packages, but on the CVE page we are only dealing with source package names. So we already have the released in the lines for libidn2. The lines that you are referring that are marked as DNE, is for the libidn2-0 source package (https://packages.ubuntu.com/source/xenial/libidn2-0), which only exists on Ubuntu Xenial (16.04) and Trusty (14.04), and that's why it is marked as DNE (Do Not Exist) in the CVE page. So this is just a confusion between source packages and binary packages. Binary packages is what you install on a apt-get install command. Source packages is where we apply the fix, and where the binary packages will be generated from. Hope I didn't get you more confused on this. [Bug 1855637] Re: Intel AC 9260 (iwlwifi) completely unstable and halts cores in 19.10
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected eoan ** Description changed: After updating from 18.04 to 19.10, the entire system will freeze and eventually recover with many dmesg errors with backtraces and all sorts of errors around the iwlwifi module. I eventually restored to an 18.04 backup, but not before logging a lot of information and also validating that it reproduces with the 19.10 "Try Ubuntu" from the iso, so it certainly isn't an artifact of the upgrade (although ubuntu-drivers does appear a bit confused about iwlwifi when I did an upgrade, but that appears to be unrelated). It is worth noting that I also use the bluetooth module in this card, but it is connected via a cable to an internal USB 2 header to the system board and I believe it uses another driver entirely. I have additional external drives I can install test bed systems on to test fixes if need be, but it is worth noting that this is rock solid on 18.04.3 and the issue will reproduce within 15 minutes of watching youtube videos on 19.10. [Bug 1855409] Re: qede driver causes 100% CPU load
Thanks for the report @phausman! I've checked mainline and there's a commit that matches your report, we should try this one: 9adebac37e7d ("qede: Handle infinite driver spinning for Tx timestamp.") [0]. This is present in Eoan and Focal, but not in Bionic/Disco. After we confirm this is the fix we can proceed with the SRU - in case this patch doesn't help to alleviate the problem, then Eoan/Focal will be targeted too and we'll need to think in a proper solution. Notice Xenial GA kernel (v4.4) does not have PTP support in qede driver, so this issue doesn't apply to Xenial (and once it's fixed in Bionic it'll reach organically Xenial-HWE kernel). I'll work in building a 4.15 kernel for Bionic with the aforementioned fix, in order you can test. Public bug reported: I was installing and the installer failed, and asks to report the bug. I thought maybe something was corrupted during making of the USB bad download whatever, because I have never had even the smallest issue installing Ubuntu. I re-download made a new USB this time it installed I updated everything was fine I was using it and Ubuntu crashed. I restarted it and at the Ubuntu screen the dots just kept going for thirty minutes I let it run. I re-downloaded made another USB the install failed again, it said about reporting it. I tried Kali made a USB booted it installed not problem works. I downloaded Ubuntu again made another USB with a different USB this time, and used another drive to install to. Now I'm submitting the bug because it has happened for a third time. I have four separate drives on my computer, Windows 10 Pro, Kali Linux 2019.04, and Ubuntu, the fourth is a back up for Windows. When I boot to any of them except Windows I have to do it from Bios, none share any data, or anything. The other three are fine, and like I said Kali works on the drive Ubuntu isn't working from. I also tried a drive I haven't installed yet that's the drive I mentioned changing to. If this helps it is a Seagate Barracuda 500 GB SSD, I tried Windows and Kali on it they both work. The new drive is a Seagate Firecudda 2Tb Hybrid, everything except Ubuntu is installing and working without and issue. I hope this helps love your OS. Have a nice day. [Bug 1855756] [NEW] Update eoan with landscape-client 19.12
Public bug reported: [Impact] Reference: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates#New_upstream_microreleases This SRU is for the 19.12 release of landscape-client which includes: * Modernized packaging. * Added support for python-apt 1.9 * Converted init script to systemd service. * Sysinfo: add support for multiple IPv6 addresses per interface. (LP: #829379) * Upstream version of previous SRU patches. [Test Case] * There is no specific test cases for this since it's an upstream release including all previously patched bugfixes, along with with a few regression fixes due to new versions present in eoan. * The current unit test suite and system test suite now pass on eoan/focal. (e.g. https://travis-ci.org/CanonicalLtd/landscape-client/builds/620310386) * The updated packaging also adds build-time testing, which should help raise regressions faster in the future. [Regression Potential] * Most of the changes, apart from the ones listed above have been patched through SRU and are already proven. * The init.d to systemd update is a potential regression point. In the event there were any issues with this change, the effect would be fairly apparent since landscape-client relies on it for startup. However, the new service configuration is much simpler than previously. * Another potential regression point is the update python-apt support. It changed package profiles enforcement. As the feature was completely broken, any regression would likely affect edge cases in package profiles which were not already covered by current test suites. ** Affects: landscape-client (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: landscape-client (Ubuntu) Milestone: None => eoan-updates -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1855756 Title: Update eoan with landscape-client 19.12 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/landscape-client/+bug/1855756/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
