[Bug 1856509] Re: installer crashed several times attempting USB Ubuntu install

2019-12-15 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

I would validate your media, as errors appear to be related to faulty
media, for example I see the following in your logs

Dec 16 03:21:08 ubuntu kernel: [ 1482.789027] EXT4-fs error (device sdd1):
ext4_validate_block_bitmap:376: comm install.py: bg 96: bad block bitmap
checksum
Dec 16 03:21:08 ubuntu systemd-resolved[1255]: Server returned error NXDOMAIN,
mitigating potential DNS violation DVE-2018-0001, retrying transaction with
reduced feature level UDP.
Dec 16 03:21:08 ubuntu kernel: [ 1482.895669] Aborting journal on device sdd1-8.
Dec 16 03:21:11 ubuntu kernel: [ 1485.899763] EXT4-fs (sdd1): Remounting

Dec 16 03:21:11 ubuntu kernel: [ 1485.899830] EXT4-fs error (device sdd1) in
ext4_do_update_inode:5364: Journal has aborted

I have marked this bug report 'Incomplete' as the problem appears to be
bad media to me, if however you believe I'm in error, please leave a
comment explaining why, and change the status back to "New".

Thanks again for helping make Ubuntu better.

Does the same leak occur in a Xorg session?

And can you please open an upstream bug at

[Bug 1772705] Re: IKEv2 VPN connections fail to use DNS servers provided by the server

2019-12-15 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Re-ping for affected users to please verify this case.
I'd really want to help you here, but one has to step up and do the
verification of this fix.

If the SRU is stuck for too long without verification it will be
rightfully cancelled by the SRU team :-/

[Bug 1847157] Re: memory leaks in open-vm-tools

2019-12-15 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
I have tested it in general, as outlined before there is no hard-test for the
leaks known.
But since this is part of the general MRE to go to open-vm-tools v11 lets call
it complete as the code matches what upstream applied to fix this issue.

"the microphone doesn't seem to work or be recognized", do you mean the
internal mic? it is not recognized? I checked the log in the #1, the
internal mic is defined, you should be able to see/find the internal mic

Check items:
 1. install / uninstall open-vm-tools, check open-vm-tools/VGAuth service
 2. reboot VM after install / uninstall open-vm-tools and then check
open-vm-tools/ VGAuth service
 3. check ip address, guestId, OS fullName after install open-vm-tools.

[Bug 1856515] Re: [gmmlib] updates since 19.3.4

2019-12-15 Thread quanxian
I list the SW stacks from Rogozhkin, Dmitry V

SW stacks are the following:
   Gmmlib .so
   ||   |
 # these are linkage dependencies
Media driver .so OpenCL driver .so User apps
   || # these are dlopen()
dependencies
 Libva.so libOpenCL.so
   ||
  AppsApps

So, there are 3 problems around GMM lib backward incompatible ABI which I see:
1. Low: API major bumps and breaks in ABI will require all applications
dependent from GMM lib directly to be recompiled. Fortunately, I think that no
one is using GMM lib directly. So, risk is low, but we never can’t be sure that
no one really using it…
2. High: each time GMM lib bumps API major version and breaks ABI, there
is a risk that OpenCL or Media driver will be incompatible and require updates
pulling in compatibility fixes (while normally such update should not be
required). This can result in build failures or runtime failures. We already
saw runtime failures few times because of that.
3. CRITICAL: we need to support releases which went to the distros. And
non-rolling distros are usually NOT OK to take library updates which bump major
API version and break ABI because per their policies only security and bug
fixes are permitted. As a matter of fact this means that we will need to
support any release which went to distribution for the lifetime of the
distribution image. If we have GMM 5, 11, 12, etc. landed in the distributions
– this basically means that we support all of these releases separately.

[Bug 1396379] Re: installer uses first EFI system partition found even when directed otherwise

2019-12-15 Thread Per-Inge
On computers with HDA or SDA drives it is possible to disconnect all drives
except the installation drive to install grub on the wanted drive.
This is however not a practical solution with NVme drives.
As I want to use the development version of Ubuntu early this is normally the
last installation and will provide the used grub. To have to use grub of the
development version gives a high risk to crash the whole computer.
I suppose this also is the case when you want to use IOS, Fedora or Windows as
your "master" version in a computer and clearly separate the different
installations.

[Bug 1848900] Re: [amdgpu] Blank display with Eoan Ermine live DVD on Ryzen 3 2200G

2019-12-15 Thread Peter D.
I'm not so sure that it is a kernel problem.
Bionic with the edge kernel 5.3.0-24 seems OK, although it has locked up once
or twice.
Eoan with kernel 5.3.0-23 misbehaves.
Could the XFCE desktop be important?

[Bug 1852166] Re: [nouveau] Pixel pattern error at 120Hz or 144Hz, but 60Hz works

2019-12-15 Thread Shahar Or
Thank you for the instructions, Daniel.

I did uncomment the above line using sudoedit, installed nvidia-
driver-435 and rebooted.

No apparent change. Still no login screen.

Reported:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-
drivers-435/+bug/1856507

Can progress be made on this in parallel to the nvidia-driver-435 bug,
please?

Public bug reported:

Attempting to boot after installing nvidia-driver-435, the login screen
does not show up.

I tried editing /etc/gdm3/custom.conf and uncommenting the line:

  #WaylandEnable=false
