[Bug 1855594] Re: Sync chromium 78.0.3904.108-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

2019-12-17 Thread Alkis Georgopoulos
I came to file this exact issue and I saw that someone has already filed
it; thank you Amr.

If chromium isn't provided in 20.04, then Ubuntu users that opt not to
use snaps will have to install Google's Chrome instead.

I tested the Buster chromium package in Focal and it worked fine.
Specifically, I just had to apt install these packages from Debian:

[Bug 1847570] Re: PulseAudio automatically switches to HDMI sound output on login

2019-12-17 Thread Daniel van Vugt
** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+
On my freshly installed eoan system I have two output devices:
  - HDMI/DisplayPort 2 - GK208 ...
  - Line Out - Family 17h ...

When I login into the system pulseaudio always select the "wrong"
one (HDMI) and I need to go to gnome-settings/Sound/Output Device
and switch to "line out". This applies to every login/logout not
  just reboots.

- I would be good if it would remember this choice so that I have
- to do it only once.
+ [Test Case]

- Or maybe (if that is technically possible)
- just output on both output devices by default - this would be
- even more user friendly for newbies who will have a hard time
- finding the right place to change this (or maybe have UI in the
- volume slider to select outputs if there are more than one?
- But anyway, my immediate concern is that it should just remember
- my choice :)
+ 0. Plug in a monitor that supports HDMI audio (one that appears in your
+ Settings>Sound)

- Please let me know if I can provide more information. Happy to
- dig into code if needed but I will need some pointers.
+ 1. Log out and in again.

- ---
+ Verify the default audio device in Settings is still speakers or
+ headphones. Not the monitor's HDMI audio device.

- WORKAROUND
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ Low. The fix proposed just reverts to the same code used in PulseAudio
+ 12 and earlier. It has also been released and verified on focal already.
+
+ [Workaround]

  Comment out:

  load-module module-switch-on-port-available
  load-module module-switch-on-connect

  from /etc/pulse/default.pa

[Bug 1856813] [NEW] Touchpad on X1 Carbon G6 is slow and sloppy

2019-12-17 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Public bug reported:

Touchpad on X1 Carbon G6 is slow and sloppy

Because:
[2.101906] psmouse serio1: synaptics: Your touchpad (PNP: LEN0091 PNP0f13)
says it can support a different bus. If i2c-hid and hid-rmi are not used, you
might want to try setting psmouse.synaptics_intertouch to 1 and report this to
linux-in...@vger.kernel.org.

Adding kernel parameter psmouse.synaptics_intertouch=1 indeed fixes it.

[Bug 1856810] Re: Addendum to "Installation stopping due to an error.

2019-12-17 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

This package failure looks like it was caused by bad ISO download,
corrupted install media, or device failure. eg. look in the logs and
you'll see messages like these :-

Dec 18 05:49:15 ubuntu kernel: [ 253.004994] SQUASHFS error: zlib
decompression failed, data probably corrupt
Dec 18 05:49:15 ubuntu kernel: [ 253.005001] SQUASHFS error:
squashfs_read_data failed to read block 0x12d4da15

Examining the information you have given us, this does not appear to be
a useful bug report so I am closing it, as it appears to be a bad ISO or
faulty device (inc. bad write-to-device). If you believe I'm in error,
please leave a comment explaining why and change the status back to
'New'. I suggest you verify your ISO download, and use the 'check disc
for defects' option to validate your media before install to ensure a
good download & write.

Possibly useful : https://tutorials.ubuntu.com/tutorial/tutorial-how-to-
verify-ubuntu#0 and
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/CDIntegrityCheck

(Note: CD refers to your install media; it was this device that is bad,
or was badly written, or contained the invalid/corrupt data)

[Bug 1856809] Re: Got an error while installing Ububtu OS.

2019-12-17 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

This package failure looks like it was caused by bad ISO download,
corrupted install media, or device failure. eg. look in the logs and
you'll see messages like these :-

Dec 18 05:26:36 ubuntu kernel: [ 633.642448] SQUASHFS error: zlib
decompression failed, data probably corrupt
Dec 18 05:26:36 ubuntu kernel: [ 633.642454] SQUASHFS error:
squashfs_read_data failed to read block 0x12d4da15

Examining the information you have given us, this does not appear to be
a useful bug report so I am closing it, as it appears to be a bad ISO or
faulty device (inc. bad write-to-device). If you believe I'm in error,
please leave a comment explaining why and change the status back to
'New'. I suggest you verify your ISO download, and use the 'check disc
for defects' option to validate your media before install to ensure a
good download & write.

Please remember to put proposed changes in git so everyone is working

[Bug 1746340] Re: Samsung SSD corruption (fsck needed)

2019-12-17 Thread Lucas Zanella
Hi trong luu, for me the error happened every day, which is why I ended
up using Qubes. It's the only way that I could find except for Windows

You can try older kernels but it didn't work for me. Remember that
downloading older ubuntus will still give you a recent kernel, you have
to downgrade by yourself. However ni Ubuntu or Debian kernels fixed the
problem for me

[Bug 1856795] [NEW] X2Go Client broken by 0.8.0~20170825.94fa1e38-1ubuntu0.5

2019-12-17 Thread Mihai Moldovan
Public bug reported:

The recent CVE fix broke SCP support in libssh, which X2Go Client
(x2goclient) relies on.

Sessions now fail with error messages such as "SCP: Warning: status code
1 received: scp: ~username/.x2go/ssh: No such file or directory\n".
(Also note the literal "\n" there, but I guess we don't really need to
care about that.)

The previous version worked fine and rolling the libssh4 package back
fixes this issue, but also leaves users vulnerable to the fixed security
issue in its scp implementation.

I've been looking at the debdiff, but spotting the actual changes is very
difficult due to the reformatting that was done at the same time. This degraded
the patch(es) into one big blob.

fixes the "root" cause (despite being able to mitigate the issue by
changing the aio notification mechanism).

I think the root cause is best described in this 2 emails from the
thread:

https://lore.kernel.org/qemu-devel/20191009080220.GA2905@hc/

and

https://lore.kernel.org/qemu-devel/966c119d-aa76-2149-108f-
867aebd77...@redhat.com/

So, by adding ctx->notify_for_convert, it is very likely you
workarounded the issue by doing what Jan already said: removing both
variables (ctx->list_lock and, in old case, ctx->notify_me, in your
case, ctx->notify_for_convert) from the same cacheline and making the
issue to "disappear" (as we would eventually do in a workaround patch).

What about aarch64 issue with both, ctx->list_lock and
ctx->notify_for_convert, being synchronized by qemu used primitives, and
being in the same cache line ?

Any "workaround" here would try to dodge the same cacheline situation,
but, for upstream, I suppose Paolo wants to have something else
regarding aarch64 ATOMIC_SEQ_CST.

like describe in this part of the discussion:

https://lore.kernel.org/qemu-devel/96c26e21-5996-0c63-ce8b-
99a1b5473...@redhat.com/

Unless I'm missing something, am I ?

Thank you!

[Bug 1856691] Re: libpulse-mainloop-glib0:i386 cannot be installed

2019-12-17 Thread Daniel van Vugt
It appears your packaging configuration is confused. You have one
package from

  bionic-proposed (1:11.1-1ubuntu7.5)

and are trying to install another from

  bionic-updates (1:11.1-1ubuntu7.4)

I wonder if that's something we did wrong. Did we revert the newer
version from updates to proposed? Looks like it...

Regardless, the solution would be to find all packages with version
1:11.1-1ubuntu7.5 and download the 1:11.1-1ubuntu7.4 equivalent deb
files from:

https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pulseaudio/1:11.1-1ubuntu7.4/+build/17893830

Then manually install them using:

  dpkg -i *.deb

An alternative solution would be to manually install all the newer
packages from:

https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pulseaudio/1:11.1-1ubuntu7.5/+build/18146193

[Bug 1852493] Re: Freeze on suspend (Acer SF314-57)

2019-12-17 Thread Kedar Patankar
@Norbert

The "deep" mem_sleep approach works for me. I also downgraded to
vanialla 19.10 kernel before trying this. Not sure if it also works with
5.4 kernel. Will try this weekend.

Earlier I was making a mistake in writing "deep" into mem_sleep. Just
sudo echo deep > /sys/power/mem_sleep does not work. I had to get a
superuser shell by "sudo su" first and then do the rest. After
correcting this, the laptop works perfectly and I am super happy with
this sweet machine.

WIll also try the 5.5rc1 kernel this weekend & report back.

This bug is not useful because it is delayed heap corruption AND

If you encounter a crash like this then please add:

it happens. Hopefully that one won't land here.

[Bug 1853199] Re: Ctrl + c (copy) anywhere some times crashes gnome session

2019-12-17 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks. That gives us a more formal issue to track: bug 1856781:
https://errors.ubuntu.com/problem/731708dc951c98fdf8e0d2693f74cf366138768d

But not really.

The problem with heap corruption issues like this is that regardless of
the root cause they will often look the same. So in this particular case
we should not join the two bugs together. To find the root cause for
your case please try adding:

  MALLOC_CHECK_=3

to your /etc/environment. Then reboot and send us more crash reports.
The crashes you get after that should be slightly different, crashing in
a different location more suggestive of the root cause of the bug.

Please also ensure you have UNINSTALLED all extensions.

[Bug 1851380] Re: root can lift kernel lockdown

2019-12-17 Thread Guillaume Michaud
I believe this fix causes a regression with NoteBook Fan Control (NBFC) as
lifting the kernel lockdown was used as a workaround to enable NBFC to control
fan speed.
See https://github.com/hirschmann/nbfc/issues/414#issuecomment-354274657 and
https://github.com/hirschmann/nbfc/issues/472

Would there be another workaround than "simply" disable UEFI secure
boot?

[Bug 1853440] Re: Volume either 0 or 100% on Lenovo X1 Carbon G7

2019-12-17 Thread Jan
Nevermind this bug tracker works differently than github issues :)

(my first bug here as you can probably tell)

[Bug 1856721] Re: Lubuntu 19.04 installer hangs on first screen itself

2019-12-17 Thread Chris Guiver
I would have performed hundreds of 'live' QA-tests of Lubuntu 19.04
during it's cycle, and don't remember that occurring for me.

I'll provide http://iso.qa.ubuntu.com/qatracker/reports/testers which
lists me as performing 302 for the eoan/19.10 cycle, as 19.04 is no
longer easily available, but the figure would have been ~similar for
disco/19.04; I'm at 72 currently in the focal/20.04 cycle. I do NOT
remember any such issue, though I always perform a ISO verify & use the
"Check disc for defects" option pre-testing.

I would suggest checking your logs for probable squashfs errors (ie. a
bad download, or faulty write to media) as your likely cause - bad
writes to media seem to just occur in my experience (thankfully they're
not the norm)

Possibly useful :
https://tutorials.ubuntu.com/tutorial/tutorial-how-to-verify-ubuntu#0
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/CDIntegrityCheck

and

https://manual.lubuntu.me/stable/1/1.3/installation.html

(the Lubuntu manual mentions the "Check disck for defects" at the start
of the page; it's this option that I believe would have detected your
issue, being far faster than checking logs. The first ISO validation is
necessary to ensure the CDIntegrityCheck is valid, and note CD refers to
your install media, even if thumb-drive)
