[Bug 1856781] Re: /usr/bin/gnome-shell:free(): corrupted unsorted chunks

2019-12-18 Thread Daniel van Vugt
This bug is not useful because it is delayed heap corruption AND
presently shows no useful stack trace.

If you encounter a crash like this then please add:

  MALLOC_CHECK_=3
  G_SLICE=always-malloc

to your /etc/environment. Then reboot and report a new crash next time
it happens. Hopefully that one won't land here.

A direct xenial to eoan upgrade path is NOT supported.

The correct breaks/replaces are in place for any supported upgrade
paths, and have quite correctly been dropped after Bionic, where keeping
that delta to debian is no longer required.

[Bug 1856953] [NEW] Misconfigured Debian control file makes dist-upgrading with package libdbusmenu-qt5 crash

2019-12-18 Thread Tianyun Zhang
Public bug reported:

Dear maintainers,

Lacking of `Breaks` and `Replaces` parts in the Debian control file of
libdbusmenu-qt5-2 package (version 0.9.3+16.04.20160218-2) would make
dist-upgrading from Xenial (with libdbusmenu-qt5 installed) to Eoan or
Focal crash.

Expected behavior of dist-upgrading:
- should deconfigure `libdbusmenu-qt5` first
- only then can `libdbusmenu-qt5-2` be installed

What happened instead:
- dpkg unpacks `libdbusmenu-qt5-2` over files of `libdbusmenu-qt5`, thus
causing a crash

Steps to reproduce:
1. install a fresh Ubuntu 16.04.6 and upgrade packages
2. change the release in apt source list from `xenial` to `eoan` or `focal` and
include universe section
3. perform `apt dist-upgrade`

PATCH: camera-device-monitor: Don't add NULL devices to the camera list

cheese_camera_device_monitor_set_up_device() will return NULL for non
video devices (ie vbi & radio devices). Emitting the added signal with
such a NULL device, causes it to get added to the camera list, which later
on causes cheese to crash.

This patch fixes this by not emitting the added signal for non camera
devices.

Hi,

Note this patch was made against 3.4.2, but it should apply fine to master too.
Also please backport / cherry pick this patch into the 3.4 branch.

Thanks,

Hans

[Bug 1665151]

2019-12-18 Thread Mattwalsh447
I can confirm I also experienced this issue on the same versions as
reported using Ubuntu 18.04 Server (Bionic)

In my instance I was using the a single virtual host with pre-defined
certificate and there was no level of SSLProtocol setup vs
SSLCipherSuite setting combination (described above) that would disable
TLSv1 TLSv1.1, which are my (and probably many other peoples) security
requirements.

I tried combinations of general SSL settings and down to virtual host
level. No settings appeared to be honored regardless

In terms of 'what to fix'. Well I think there is enough information in
the comments here to determine there is an issue between SSLProtocol and
SSLCipherSuite, particularly as previous versions have been noted as
working successfully.

I would also note that this relationship is NOT documented (that I can
find) and if this is determined to be configuration related, then
clearer documentation and examples need to be provided.

Clearly people are spending time on this issue, a quick google indicates
this is a wide issue.

Unfortunately in my case I don't have any more time to spend working out
what should be a 15 minute SSL setup on a web servers. I will be
switching to using NGINX and this will be my preferred setup until this
issue can be resolved either in fix or documentation.

When I run most applications in my GNOME session, e.g. Emacs, or another
terminal, such as xterm, the umask within is 0027.

When I run gnome-terminal (3.18.3, Ubuntu 16.04), my umask is 0002.

As far as I can tell, I am starting gnome-terminal and xterm (also tried
uxterm) in the same way. Both are configured not to start a login shell.

If I run "umask" at the top of my .bashrc, in gnome-terminal it prints
0002, and in xterm, 0027.

If I run xterm from within gnome-terminal, the umask remains 0002.

Running gnome-terminal.real directly has the same effect.

I tried killing gnome-terminal-server and running gnome-terminal: same
result.

If I set the umask in my .bashrc, then the setting is respected.

There's the solution: .profile is only sourced for login shells (at
least on debian derived distributions).

Thanks for your reply. I am sorry, I tried very hard to be clear, but
obviously failed.

.profile is run at login, and sets various environment variables. These
are all correctly set in gnome-terminal and xterm.

As I said previously, neither gnome-terminal nor xterm is configured to
start a login shell. Yet in xterm both the environment variables (which
are only set in .profile) and umask are correctly set, whereas in gnome-
terminal only the environment variables are set correctly, and the umask
has been changed to a different value.

Some additional information, for the sake of clarity: umask(2) says:

A child process created via fork(2) inherits its parent's umask. The

I am assuming therefore that my umask having been set, by my .profile,
by /etc/gdm/Xsession, that the same process will (eventually) start
gnome-terminal-server (via gnome-terminal), and that therefore the umask
I set should be inherited (as occurs with xterm).

This is why I believe that something has changed the umask.

If I start gnome-terminal (no previous instance running) from my xterm

reset to my preferred value in g-t. If I start the server manually and
then a client(*) then that weird umask is preserved.

(*)The two commands shown at
https://wiki.gnome.org/Apps/Terminal/Debugging, without the gdb bits.

So it must have something to do with the dbus activation, it's probably
dbus (or a closely related component) that decides on the umask.

[Bug 1856941] [NEW] chinese input option just qwerty

2019-12-18 Thread themusicgod1
Public bug reported:

Not sure where to report this, but this is where to reproduce, at least:

to reproduce
1) click on triangle at top right hand corner of screen to get menu
2) click on settings icon
3) click on language and region
4) click on +
5) click on ...
6) click on other
7) click on chinese
8) click on add

9) you should now have a 'chinese' input source. click on that
10) click on keyboard icon
this shows just a plain qwerty keyboard
alternatively
click on the input language option at the top of the screen
select chinese (zh)
start typing on an input field somewhere
result: qwerty, not chinese input.

what should happen
the chinese (zh) input should actually generate chinese characters. or
something

[Bug 1080978] Re: apport forcefully overrides sysctl kernel.core_pattern from values set in /etc/sysctl.*

2019-12-18 Thread Zertrin
Same surprise here, after adding a custom
'/etc/sysctl.d/60-core_pattern.conf' to set it to my desired value, I
could not understand why it seemed not applied after a reboot. Finally
discovered the echoing inside '/etc/init/apport.conf' and died a little
internally.

The proper course of action for apport would probably be to create its
own '/etc/sysctl.d/30-core_pattern.conf' ("30" being documented as to be
used by packages), instead of hijacking '/proc/sys/kernel/core_pattern'
...

** Description changed:

New laptop that is running Ubuntu Mate 19.10, most everything works out
of the box even bluetooth but bluetooth does not resume after suspend.
In fact I am unable to restart it and get it to work after a suspend.
Wireless resumes and continues to work, just bluetooth fails. After
suspend the controller and adapter are not found, restarting
bluetooth.service nor restarting network manger solve the issue. After
a resume the adapter is not found at all, I have tried to remove the
module before a suspend and add it back to no avail, the only way to get
it working is to reboot which is a pain.

Please let me know what additional data you may need, posting
  information below:

[Bug 1856851] Re: rustc 1.39 and cargo 0.40 required by firefox 73

2019-12-18 Thread Michael Hudson-Doyle
Is there somewhere to upload these versions to? rust-next is still
behind rust-updates, so if I upload to rust-updates the version
currently there will be lost (not that I'm sure I'm going to have
packages to upload before I go on leave for four weeks; someone else
might have to drive this).

** Changed in: cargo (Ubuntu)
   Status: Confirmed => In Progress

** Changed in: rustc (Ubuntu)
