[Bug 1859261] Re: [hns3-0111]sync mainline kernel 5.5rc6 hns3 patchset into ubuntu HWE kernel branch Edit

2020-01-16 Thread Ike Panhc
I can not find "treewide: Use sizeof_member() macro but found a
similiar. Do you mean this patch?

commit c593642c8be046915ca3a4a300243a68077cd207
Author: Pankaj Bharadiya
Date:   Mon Dec 9 10:31:43 2019 -0800

treewide: Use sizeof_field() macro

Replace all the occurrences of FIELD_SIZEOF() with sizeof_field() except
at places where these are defined. Later patches will remove the unused
definition of FIELD_SIZEOF().

[Bug 1814490] Re: lubuntu 19.04/19.10 xscreensaver runs on single display, other display continues normally

2020-01-16 Thread Chris Guiver
I just noticed screensaver kicked in on both my displays on my primary
(d960) 20.04 box. This maybe the first time I've seen this on this box
since Lubuntu went to LXQt (whilst using LXQt/Lubuntu anyway).

The only change made relates to https://discourse.lubuntu.me/t/keep-
monitors-attached-expected-behavior/689/4 play where the “Keep Monitors
attached” checkbox was ticked a number of times for testing...

Upstream have mentioned something causes a value to be set (maybe issue
was an uninitialized flag/value; but a number of issues were ~linked)
which fixes the issue; if just clicking this 'checkbox' on & off maybe
is a workaround.  Maybe it's just co-incidence, but I can't think of
anything else today that would change it.

[Bug 1859685] Re: google-cloud-print-connector FTBFS (focal)

2020-01-16 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
It is an ugly, but effective workaround to get back to the status-quo it had
before.
After the input by Till that this is about to die anyway it seems even more
reasonable to give it that quick-shot to be working for the time being.

You have upstreamed it (if they want to consider it at all), the patch
and headers look good, the argument and documentation of choice is good
and the changelog looks ok.

+1 on the fix as attached here.

[Bug 1820323] Re: amdgpu-pro xorg crash

2020-01-16 Thread Chih-Hsyuan Ho
- Original shipping condition:
* Dell Farallon + WX2100
* linux-image-4.4.0-36-generic + amdgpu-17.10-429170

- Test procedure:
1. sudo apt install linux-image-4.4.0-xxx-generic
linux-headers-4.4.0-xxx-generic
2. reboot

Expected behavior
System can boot into desktop successfully to the updated kernel

Actual behavior
Loop at login session

- Findings:
1. amdgpu DKMS fails to build exactly between 4.4.0-142(OK) and 4.4.0-143(NG)
kernels
2. However, starting from 4.4.0-116 kernel, amdgpu module fails to load with
the following error message:
amdkcl: version magic '4.4.0-xxx-generic SMP mod_unload modversions' should be
'4.4.0-xxx-generic SMP mod_unload modversions retpoline'

- In summary, the issue has 2 causes, amdgpu loading error and amdgpu
DKMS build error, the former happens in earlier kernel revisions than
the latter.

[Bug 1792672] Re: Regression: acpi reports battery state incorrectly after sleep

2020-01-16 Thread Kai-Heng Feng
Would it be possible for you to do a kernel bisection?

First, find the last -rc kernel works and the first -rc kernel doesn’t
work from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/

Then,
$ sudo apt build-dep linux
$ git clone git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git
$ cd linux
$ git bisect start
$ git bisect good $(the working version you found)
$ git bisect bad $(the non-working version found)
$ make localmodconfig
$ make -j`nproc` deb-pkg
Install the newly built kernel, then reboot with it.
If it still have the same issue,
$ git bisect bad
Otherwise,
$ git bisect good
Repeat to "make -j`nproc` deb-pkg" until you find the offending commit.

[Bug 1845756] Re: lubuntu 19.10 strange movement of wallpaper on monitor.settings change

2020-01-16 Thread Chris Guiver
I just noticed my primary d960 box (dell [optiplex] 960 (c2q-q9400, 8gb,
amd/ati cedar radeon hd 5000/6000/7350/8350)) has no wallpaper anymore
on it's top monitor, but 'top' of wallpaper on my bottom monitor.

The box was also used in testing mentioned in comment #3, but windows
covered the wallpaper (both monitors) so it took some time for me to
notice.

[Bug 1845756] Re: lubuntu 19.10 strange movement of wallpaper on monitor.settings change

2020-01-16 Thread Chris Guiver
Look at https://discourse.lubuntu.me/t/keep-monitors-attached-expected-
behavior/689 on hp dc7700 (c2d-e6320, 5gb, nvidia quadro nvs 290) on
very recent (yesterday?) install of 20.04 & this issue re-occurred.

hp dc7700 (c2d-e6320, 5gb, nvidia quadro nvs 290)
(it shares same monitors as hp 8200 reported on previously)

My list of done so far is

full-upgraded (no reboot)
turn 'keep monitors attached' OFF
black screen on 'my top' monitor; 'my bottom' monitor now shows top of 19.10
wallpaper :(

[Bug 1859774] Re: Full screen window becomes "small" in the upper left of the screen...

2020-01-16 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks. It's very strange that the dimensions of neither image match
actual screen resolutions. I guess that's one possible reason why
they're not staying full screen -- the window size is not supportable.

Another issue I notice from your screenshots is the unusual panel and
icons hanging down. This makes me think you might be using some
extensions(?). Please try uninstalling all gnome-shell extensions,
reboot and retest. We need to uninstall extensions and not just disable
them because broken extensions might also fail to honour the disable
request.

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1856334 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1856334

Possible fix:
https://github.com/torvalds/linux/commit/436e25505f3458cc92c7f3c985e9cbc198a98209

This has been applied to Eoan master-next branch:
https://kernel.ubuntu.com/git/ubuntu/ubuntu-eoan.git/commit/?h=master-next=0017b78d1701458f5ae37d77c957a60d32955673

The proposed kernel should be available soon, you can test it once it's
ready[1]. Or wait until it got released to -updates.
I will mark this one as a dup of bug 1856334, which brings in that commit.

Inconsistency in the bluetooth menu

In Endless's fork of GNOME Shell 3.24, we sometimes get an inconsistent
state in the system menu for the Bluetooth, that leads to weird
situations where you see the menu item as "Off" even if bluetooth is
active (and we know that because we can use the BT mouse), with a
submenu item showing "Turn Off".

See the attached picture for a better visual description of the problem.

As far as I can see, this is a problem in master too, patch will be
coming soon..

I'd be interested in how that sentence continues :-p

Joking aside, I don't think this is correct. As far as I can see,
"nConnectedDevices == -1" means there is no Bluetooth adapter that is
powered on - we can toggle the AirplaneMode property as much as we want
(that's what "Turn On/Off" does after all), that's not going to change.
So a better option may be to do

  this._toggleItem.actor.visible = nConnectedDevices > -1;

I'd be too, but I can't remember what I had in there :). I suppose it'
was something along the lines of "...if the adapter is available but
it's set in airplane mode".

I thought the same thing, but I'm not 100% sure on whether it's possible
to have a BT adapter that would be "powered on"/"available" and would
still report to be in airplane mode (either soft or hard), so I thought
the sane thing to do was to check both things, just in case.

What looks more clear to me, is that the same condition should be used
in both places, since what you want to

Because of the method that the dbus proxies are created there is
currently a race condition. When an adapter is added it can have an
initial "Powered" state of off which is turned on immediately
afterwards. However, the signal connect to get the update only happens
later.

This can be easily reproduced on thinkpads by running "rfkill block 0"
and "rfkill unblock 0" while looking at the gnome-control-center
bluetooth panel.

Attaching a patch that should fix the issue. I hope I didn't totally
misunderstand how the whole DBus proxy stuff is supposed to work.

[Bug 1859955] Re: Display freaks out when external monitors are attached

2020-01-16 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I can imagine some delays could be mutter's fault...

(just a theory)

If we get a burst of a number of new connector/hotplug/udev events and
mutter tries to action each one immediately then it will take a long
time and lots of flashing to get through all of them. To avoid that,
mutter should be ignoring such events for some short period so that it
can group them into a single config change that will complete faster.

[Bug 1859955] Re: Display freaks out when external monitors are attached

2020-01-16 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I would like to understand if the long delay is just the time it takes
for the kernel to advertise the new connectors, or if it's some delay in
mutter.

Separately, yes the desktop should never appear cut in the middle of the
screen like that so that part sounds like a mutter bug. We potentially
have two separate bugs here.

2020-01-16 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Yeah the data we would like to see attached automatically are:

  lspci -k
  xrandr

Alan, can you please run 'xrandr' before and after docking, and attach
them? I suspect the trigger for this confusion is the introduction of
new monitor connectors (not just new monitors).

Also please run:

  ls /sys/class/drm

before and after docking to see if the results are changing.

Thanks.

That shows your screen is natively 1920x1080 but the current mode is
1600x900. Can you please take a screenshot and tell us the dimensions of
the screenshot image vs the dimensions of the the small fullscreen
window within it?

   1400x1050 59.98
   1600x900  59.9959.9459.9559.82*

Also, if the problem continues then please try to write down the steps
required to reproduce it.

Finally, the problem might be triggered by the atomic modesetting code
used by Xorg sessions. Please try logging into 'Ubuntu on Wayland' and
tell us if that avoids some of the problem.

[Bug 1859730] Re: [comet lake] Gnome freezes, icons missing, graphics corruption

2020-01-16 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks.

I should have noticed earlier that you're using very new hardware with a
slightly old Ubuntu release. Although it is the latest LTS release.

I am guessing you probably need a newer version of Mesa for this GPU. To
test that theory please try booting Ubuntu 20.04 from USB
(http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/) and tell us if it has
the same issues.

[Bug 1859071] Re: Modesetting randomly fails to offer all modes available in the EDID

2020-01-16 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks!

The login screen uses Wayland so that's also a good test in itself. If
the issue affects the Wayland backend then it sounds like this is a
kernel or hardware problem. To check that, next time the issue happens,
please run:

  grep . /sys/class/drm/*/modes > modes.txt

and then attach the file 'modes.txt' here.

---

Just a guess: The problem might be timeouts on the i2c bus waiting for
the monitor to return its EDID. So that could happen randomly. In that
case, maybe try a different DisplayPort cable if you can.

  gnome-shell crashes with this bug every time that:

  * I am editing a file in geany
  * I open the Find window (CTRL-F) and it opens on another monitor
  * I type in some un-findable text in the find window and press ENTER (or
click the Next button)

  The system beeps to indicate that the text isn't found, but then
  crashes.

  Note especially that the find window must be on the other monitor - if
  it's on the same monitor as geany, gnome-shell doesn't crash.

  (Note: I originally thought that if I moved the find window to the other
  window and then searched, gnome-shell crashed, but I think what happens
  is a) I open the window, b) I move it, search for something, and it
  works, c) I close it and re-open it - it then opens on the other monitor
  and searching will crash gnome-shell.)

  gnome-shell restarts, but the crash causes data loss, as most of the
  running applications don't reappear when it restarts.

  In case it's relevant, I have a laptop screen set at 2048x1152 and an
  external monitor configured to be above it at 2560x1440.

[Bug 1847587] Re: [SRU] Add entries for Pi 4

2020-01-16 Thread Dave Jones
** Description changed:

  Impact
  ==

  The current stable release (bionic) does not support booting on the
  Raspberry Pi 4. Several packages need back-porting from devel to support
  this, along with a new kernel.
+
+ Relevant branch:
+
+ https://code.launchpad.net/~waveform/ubuntu/+source/flash-kernel/+git
+ /flash-kernel/+ref/bionic-pi-4

  Test Case
  =

  * Attempt to boot the latest bionic image (18.04.3) on a pi4; note failure
  * Move the SD card to a pi3 and boot successfully
  * Ensure all packages are up to date (apt update/upgrade)
  * sudo add-apt-repository ppa:waveform/pi4
  * sudo apt upgrade
  * sudo reboot
  * Ensure boot proceeds successfully on the pi3
  * Verify facilities (USB peripherals, USB mass storage, wifi, bluetooth,
audio, etc.) work
  * sudo apt install linux-image-raspi2-hwe-18.04-edge
  * sudo reboot
  * Ensure boot proceeds successfully on the pi3
  * Verify facilities (USB peripherals, USB mass storage, wifi, bluetooth,
audio, etc.) work
  * Move the SD card back to the pi4
  * Ensure boot proceeds successfully on the pi4
  * Verify facilities (USB peripherals, USB mass storage, wifi, bluetooth,
audio, etc.) work
  * Repeat for both archs (armhf and arm64)

  Regression Potential

  Plenty; pi4 support on bionic requires back-ports of flash-kernel,
  u-boot, linux-firmware-raspi2, and the kernel. Furthermore, the firmware
  package needs to support two kernels (the current 4.x series and the
  proposed 5.x series). Verification of boot, and other facilities (USB
  peripherals, mass storage, free memory, wifi, etc. etc.) should be
  performed on both archs and all supported models of pi (2, 3, 3A+, 3B+,
  4B all memory variants).
