[Bug 1849965] Re: I got stuck in a Login-Loop. The solution with the .Xauthority permission would not fix it. Next i read about a lightdm bug. Since new ubuntu is using not lightdm but gdm3 i sudo apt

2020-01-17 Thread Pranab Dhar
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1845801 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1845801

I have been struggling with this issue.
 1. I tried using "nomodeset" in grub, it didnt work.
 2. I tried replacing gdm3 with lightdm, that too did not work.

I am using the ubuntu driver NVIDIA-SMI 435.21 Driver Version:
435.21 CUDA Version: 10.1 on AMD 3960x cpu with kernel option
mce=off.

This happens after i update the base OS installation with the new kernel
and other additions.

Something is really broken as I have tried all the available options i
could read about this issue. After 5 new installs it is the same story.
I am now avoiding any updates for sometime to come.

[Bug 1739805]

2020-01-17 Thread Main-haarp
> With the patch applied, on the General tab of Xfce Power Manager,
there should be a "Brightness step count" field and an "Exponential"
checkbox next to it.

Weird, I'm not seeing those. But don't let that worry you, I'm sure the
next proper release will have those setting show up.

> I believe the effect of exponential steps is very much dependent on
the characteristics of the LCD backlight. For my last two laptops,
there are very visible differences between every step on the scale.
Perhaps you can try reducing the number of steps to 6?

Tried that. Funnily enough, it did nothing to change the lower end. Now
I have 3 steps that do nothing and 3 steps that quickly increase
brightness :)

Seems like a large case of YMMV.

[Bug 1739805]

With the patch applied, on the General tab of Xfce Power Manager, there should
be a "Brightness step count" field and an "Exponential" checkbox next to it.

I believe the effect of exponential steps is very much dependent on the
characteristics of the LCD backlight. For my last two laptops, there
are very visible differences between every step on the scale. Perhaps
you can try reducing the number of steps to 6?

Enlarging the step sizes towards the lower end complicates the maths
quite a bit, and may not suit everyone.

[Bug 1827442] Re: [MIR] libheif

2020-01-17 Thread Seth Arnold
Has anyone looked to see if x265 and libde265 are also required to be
MIR'd for this package to be useful in its target use? There's no
install time dependencies declared in the Debian packaging but it's hard
for me to imagine why these libraries would be required at build in
order to enable some of the functionality, unless they also influence
the runtime behaviour of the library.

Thanks

[Bug 1860195] [NEW] Screen goes dark when Laptop is lifted up from desk

2020-01-17 Thread Meir Levi
Public bug reported:

This problem had happened twice n past two weeks.

Normally, I place the laptop on my laps (with legs on the desk).
Occasionally I set it on my desk for a few minutes to do other chores. Then the
screen goes dark after I pick it up.

Only Hard restart works.

[Bug 1827442] Re: [MIR] libheif

2020-01-17 Thread Seth Arnold
Is the libheif package still lintian clean? Using disco's lintian I get
the following:

Output of lintian:
 W: libheif source: debhelper-compat-file-is-missing
 W: libheif source: package-uses-deprecated-debhelper-compat-version 1
 E: libheif source: package-uses-debhelper-but-lacks-build-depends
 W: libheif source: newer-standards-version 4.4.1 (current is 4.1.4)

This is libheif 1.6.1-1.

Thanks

[Bug 1858152] Re: fstrim.service no longer trims /home partition

2020-01-17 Thread Matt Vickers
I can confirm this bug. Viewing systemd logs on my system showed the
weekly TRIM of /home stopped around the end of October 2019 as reported
by Jeffery.

This bug was filed upstream (https://github.com/karelzak/util-
linux/issues/824) and will affect users with /home on a separate
partition.

It was patched with the following one-line commit
c64d452b3eb85fe55e238144082247b05cc143ea:
-ProtectHome=yes
+ProtectHome=read-only

[Bug 1860192] [NEW] pip 19.0.0+ needs to be included with the 20.04 release

2020-01-17 Thread Justin
Public bug reported:

Pip 19.0.0+ needs to be included with the 20.04 release. PEP 571
introduces the manylinux2010 platform tag, which was released with pip
19.0.0, which in turn is something many packages have already started
explicitly depending on, notably including Tensorflow's latest two
releases (https://www.tensorflow.org/install/pip). Pip 19.0.0 will be
more than a year old at the time of release for 20.04, so it isn't to
new either. I raise this issue because 19.04 and 19.10 are still on pip
18.x.y, which concerns me especially given that there's been enough time
for it to perkelate into 19.10.

Additionally, upgrading pip beyond the system included version is an
absolute disaster, and saying that they can do so is an inadequate
response. Pip 9 (included in 18.04) for a period included an incorrect
error message encouraging users to self upgrade pip, and people trying
to do so consistently broke so many installations that it created a
massive debacle on github, and forced us to release a package removing
the message. I believe this package maintainer (@Barry Warsaw) was a
party to some of these threads. See
https://github.com/pypa/pip/issues/5346,
https://github.com/pypa/pip/issues/5447, and
https://github.com/pypa/pip/issues/5599.

Sorry for putting this in a bug report, but I don't know where else to
put it.
